Too easily compared to The Wicker Man, Midsommar is a beautiful and unique film that does more to pay homage than it tries to copy - in fact, it could be easily seen as a film that plays with occult tropes that haven’t been touched since the likes of The Wicker Man. So many films that take on occult genres are very much more in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby, night time scenarios. Midsommar shows us the terrors that happen in the daylight. This film is filled with environment and colors, thrusting it’s love-lost characters into a strange and surreal trip, filled with hypnotic visuals and all. Essentially a break-up film at heart, the first half of the film builds its tension with the attempt to familiarize one’s self in an unknown setting, all while pulling the main characters further and further away from each other, leaving a sort of communication gap. This breakdown crumbles alongside everything else happening around them, and as they travel further into the rabbit hole, the further they unravel the truth of the Midsommar traditions.
Ari Aster is a masterful filmmaker, taking us on yet another meaningful and terrifying adventure through every day life experiences. If you’re a fan of his first film Hereditary, this one definitely carries the torch.

I can say so much about this movie, but it all depends on the viewer. You're either gonna really like this movie or you're gonna hate it. Personally, I loved it. The sense of dread builds at a steady pace to a very satisfying ending.
The film is shot beautifully, with so much detail in every frame. And it does not shy away from that detail in the terrible ways the unfortunate twenty something's fate.
The story is simple but complex enough to keep you guessing what's really going on. So good!

Different kind of horror movie

A truly unsettling film that relies more on an impending sense of doom to inspire horror rather than all the jump scares that seem so prevalent in many of the more recent horror films. It also feels like you’re being let in on the rituals and customs of an unknown culture which is very interesting until the film starts to get deadly serious. It runs long but I found myself engaged throughout.

This is Ari Aster's sophomore effort after making the best horror movie of the year last year with Hereditary. It's definitely not as scary and the pacing is a little slow for my taste, but it's still worth your time if you're an experimental horror fan. Florence Pugh is a force to be reckoned with and Aster is coming up with some of the most unique ways to frighten audiences.

After watching the movie Hereditary, I ventured to go and see this movie. I left speechless from the theatre because I didn't know how to process it properly. It was weird, but somehow it just works. The acting is amazing. Florence Pugh is somebody that I hope stays in film for a long time because her performance was that good.

If you enjoyed Hereditary there's a pretty good chance you'll enjoy this one as well. Pretty disturbing throughout and does not rely on jump scares for its, well, scares. Check it out if you can, worth picking up to experience - will stick with you after watching.

I enjoy strange movies and this is one of them. It takes its time telling the story and gradually things get a little out of hand. The original blu-ray movie is 147 minutes. I picked up the director's cut blu-ray from the United Kingdom and I plan to watch it this weekend!

Intrigued at what Ari Aster's follow up tp Hereditary would be. This was just as insane as the previous and is a welcome change of pace in the genre. Great imagination and very much pulls you into the fever dream. Hoping the director's cut makes it to shelves eventually. Great ride.

Very different type of unsettling horror. It’s graphic, but well shot and made. A bit long, but that’s not an issue for me- slow burn but with big moments evenly paced out. Would be worth more stars IF there was three changes here:
1. 4K
2. Directors cut
3. Best Buy exclusive steelbook ;j

This movie is great if you enjoy slow-burn horror. it's kinda long, but the build-up is worth it when stuff starts getting heavy. It's sort of a folk-horror ancestor to The Wicker Man, and by that I mean the awesome original version, not the horrendous Nicolas Cage remake.

This movie is a psychedelic, out of body, horror film! The settings are very different and are beautiful art on the screen. A masterpiece, but be warned there is disturbing scenes and it will mess with your mind. Enjoy the Trip!

An entertainingly weird flick that doesn't live up to Aster's Hereditary, but is a solid effort. If the characters had been more developed, giving the viewer more emotional investment, it would have been a 5.

Interesting movie! It is a little on the bizarre side, but still a good movie. Quite a bit of gore in this one, so have to get past that, but a very interesting story line that holds attention.

Best Buy had a great price on Midsommar. Too bad Lionsgate dropped the ball in the U.S. by only giving North American viewers the theatrical cut, unlike Europe, who received the director's cut on Blu-ray.

Is more of a psychotic thriller I would Rate this film R there is nudity and violence involved in this film. It’s a little bit slow but it’s worth the waiting for the horror that’s about to come.

If you liked the Nicolas Cage film, The Wicker Man, then you will absolutely love this film. All set in Sweden, the story gets crazier as time goes on. A must have for horror/thriller fans

Florence gives a great performance! The cinematography was just stunning. It’s an odd movie. Super long too. It worked for me but I don’t think it will be for everyone.
