Overall, this is a great alternative to a chest strap. I find the monitoring to be as accurate as the traditional chest straps, but it is more convenient. The Mio works with many Bluetooth workout apps, which is great because the Mio app is lacking some serious traits. I would recommend to everyone!

This unit does not have a lot of bells and whistles. But it does what it does very well. The heart rate monitor is the most accurate one I have used and the easiest to use. When in heart rate mode it displays the heart rate all the time in figures that are easy to see from a normal arms length distance. Others I have tried had tiny numbers and were only on when you pushed a button. And on top of that they were not accurate or even consistent with themselves.

I use this HRM for circuit training, cross-fit, Spinning and more. I use "RIZKNOWS" on youtube for all my sport equipment reviews. He says this is one of the best strapless models.
PROS: It's as accurate as my previous device (Polar/strap). Easy to set up with the MioGo app (free) on my iPhone. Stores up to 24 hours of workouts in case you can't get around to syncing the device with your app immediately. Excellent system of blinking colored light in darker conditions to see what zone you're in. Does not stay in HRM all the time so the battery lasts longer. Spiffy charger. Waterproof.
CONS: I'm a girl: this device is massive. Would be nice if the system was small enough to accommodate a less manly-looking unit. But who cares; it works. Also, a BIG "con" which made me consider this purchase hard: the price. Retails for $200. I was returning a Garmin; the Alpha 2 was on sale for $170.
