Nice Lighting With a Few Issues

Let me start off by saying that my favorite parts about this lantern are the lighting features. In general, it is really good! It gets plenty bright for a dark or dim room (it can be brightened to 4 different brightness levels), and with the exception of the carrying handle and white speaker grill on top, it completely illuminates from top to bottom. It isn’t bright enough to pop in a bright room, but once the lights go down the lamp really shines (no pun intended) and is very eye-catching with its full body RGB illumination. Speaking of RGB, the lamp comes with 9 adjustable colors (red, green, dark blue, light blue, orange, purple, yellow, teal, and white). In my opinion this is a good array of color options, all of which are very well represented by the lamp light, and although a wider range of customizable colors would be nice, at this price point it is hardly anything to complain about. In addition to the color options, the lamp also has options for keeping the color solid, flashing quickly between colors, fading between colors, smoothly transitioning between colors, and strobing. This brings me to my first issue with the lamp, which is that it has quality control issues, namely that the included remote feels very cheap, and I could only get the strobe function of the lamp to work a few times. In particular, there are two ways to cycle between the color options, either tapping the single button on the bottom of the lamp to cycle sequentially through the different options, or using the remote. In either case, the strobe function would only work correctly a few times, with the majority of the times I tried to use it resulting in the lamp holding a solid red color instead. Likewise, while the remote works well for adjusting the color options (as well as the volume and song skipping), it is a shame there aren’t more control options directly on the lantern itself. I understand this is likely due to the minimalist look of the speaker, but it would be nice to adjust song choice and volume on the lantern itself, or even the lantern’s brightness, without needing to use the remote. Weighing at only about a pound, the lantern is incredibly light and highly portable. Again, needing the remote for more complete control is not ideal, but at this small and light, it’s hardly a deal-breaker. While we are talking about annoyances however, one small but slightly irritating thing is that the handle of the lantern is only raised about an inch off the top of the lantern, which means that most adult sized hands won’t be able to fit enough to carry the lantern with your whole hand. With the handle up, I could only fit my fingers through up to my knuckles, and even then, my knuckles were constantly dragging against the speaker grill when carrying it. I had to use the tips of my fingers to carry it comfortably, which isn’t an issue due to the weight, but just felt odd and certainly less secure given the width of the handle. I imagine this was designed so that when your not using the handle, it can be tipped at a 45-degree without blocking much of the lamp light, but even then, it just feels awkward not being able to fit my hand into the handle fully when carrying it. A minor issue, but one I thought worth mentioning. Now, the lighting aspect of the lantern is only half the reason to buy this, with the other half being the Bluetooth speaker capabilities. So how does it sound? I would say serviceable. This isn’t the speaker to get if you are a critical music listener, or if you want something with a good bass thump. In general, the sound is fine, and will certainly beat your phone or laptop quite easily, but its not going to win any sound awards. It gets decently loud, and I found it worked best for pop or music with a bigger emphasis on vocals, but it sounded too hallow for my tastes with rock or metal music. In general, if music quality is your main point of interest, I don’t think this is going to blow you away, but it is likely to satisfy non-critical listeners, and for the price, does a good job. All-in-all, this is a fun little device. It offers nifty RGB options, is extremely light, and has a long-lasting battery which makes it great for parties or picnics. Unfortunately, for portability and price you are sacrificing sound quality and gaining some quality control issues. The inconsistent strobe feature on my lantern is not ideal, and the too-short handle feels like an oversight. More controls on the lantern would have been preferred, and if a remote is going to be needed, a higher quality remote would have been nice. Finally, while the included USB to Micro USB charging cable works fine, not including a USB to power socket adapter feels like an oversight. It works fine charging off of a laptop or USB port in a car, but including an adapter to charge from the wall or leave the device plugged in near an outlet would have been good. All this being said, these complaints are minor overall, and the device does exactly what it sets out to do. It may benefit from some additional features and refining, but at this price, it still has plenty to offer.

Scandinavian Cool Décor: Bluetooth Speaker Lantern

The Mooni Aurora Mini wireless portable Bluetooth speaker lantern is an elegant addition to your home décor which provides not only a nice Bluetooth speaker but a beautiful accent lamp which features nine colors and multiple lighting effects at a price which makes it one of the best values on the market. Mooni International is a Swedish firm which creates original (“Mooni”) solar, RGB/LED and low voltage mood lighting, portable speakers and Bluetooth speakers, all crafted with Scandinavian design flair. This very compact unit is a delightful combination of varied lighting features and a small Bluetooth speaker, both controlled by a slim remote control. Here are the relevant features and specifications: • Mooni Aurora Mini Speaker Lantern 2.0 (Model MN-SL008-101) • 5 watt Bluetooth speaker • Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity with 33 foot range • 3 watt LED lighting (equivalent to 25 watt incandescent bulb), • 20,000 hour life expected for LED • Nine colors, four light levels and four lighting effects (flash, strobe, fade, smooth change) • IP 44 rating (dirt and splash resistant) • Scandinavian design, sleek and easy to clean • Full function remote control includes spare CR2032 battery • Power supply: 3.7 volt 1200 mAh lithium ion battery, 78“ micro USB recharge cable included, full charge time 4 hours • Battery life up to 9 hours (4 hours at maximum volume and brightness level) • Lighting effects can be turned off entirely to extend battery life • Very compact: 5.6” wide and 6.3” tall • One year parts and labor warranty When you open the box and unpack the unit you will be impressed by the luxurious, soft cloth bags used to enclose the speaker and the accessories. Another nice aspect is the very nice, full-function compact remote control. Mooni even includes a spare CR2032 battery for the remote! This little gem is a versatile accent lamp, adding flair and ambiance to your parties and backyard gatherings. It will brighten a bathroom, a child’s bedroom or add a nice warm, stylish touch to your family room. You can set the colors to rotate or remain on a single color at varying light output levels. The sound produced by this speaker is distortion-free and steady at both low and high volumes. The single 5 watt speaker is mounted at the top of the lantern so the sound is dispersed upward and is non-directional. There is not much bass response but it would serve nicely as a supplemental speaker for a bedroom or bathroom. (If stronger bass is a requirement I suggest that you move up to the Mooni MN-SL001-001-02 model which has a 10 watt speaker and costs just $20 more than this unit.) The Bluetooth connection was effortless and solid from every device I tried (phone, tablet, laptop). It held the connection steady up to about 35 feet from my music source. The IP 44 rating means that it is resistant to water splashed on it from any direction and will resist dirt infiltration so it is safe to use outdoors. One nice bonus feature is the ability to automatically connect with a second Mooni speaker to deliver true stereo sound. Given the low cost of this unit you should consider buying a pair for that purpose. The bottom line on this sturdy, water resistant lantern speaker is that is provides acceptable sound quality from a very stylish body at a very affordable price. I endorse it without reservation!

wow what a great cute RGB lantern! I gotta say my girlfriend and I are totally in love of the look of this lantern it’s simple and cute! i’m a huge fan when it comes to RGB lighting, it just gives me more options to have a certain type of mood in my house, not only that but this lantern also comes with bluetooth speakers. mooni did a great job packaging their product inside the box, the package comes with soft bag inside where you’ll find the lantern, I thought that was really great! Pros - comes with two bags that you could use later on - the lantern has a great sounding speakers inside, testing out playing relaxing music, it just sets the mood right, bluetooth was easily found using my iphone, and it sync with no problem. - the remote comes with multiple button for light adjustments, bluetooth on/off and the ability to pick certain theme you want the colors to show, there’s a lot a button to put it on lamp mode, or if you just want to use the speaker it self you can and leave the light off - the package comes with extra battery for your remote! - very colorful lanthern, it changes to blue, green, red, yellow, and white or you can pick smooth cycle so it will change the whole time the lamp is active cons - I wish I could sync this device to my Alexa sadly it doesn’t support it, - doesn’t have an application to control the lanther - mooni lanther did not come with the outlet plug, what you get is micro usb cord and you have to provide a plug yourself, that’s disappointing because not everybody will have an extra plug laying around - the lanthern sometimes automatically turns on for some odd reason, did not touch it all would randomly turn into a dim red color. - lanthern will sometimes get stuck on one static color when you choose the cycle mode, you will need to press it again for it to register. beyond what I listened i’m still happy with this device it’s perfect in my leaving room and it’s something that i’m interested on having, I was also hoping the company would have an instagram page but sadly looks like their social media is not fully up and running yet, you would think it will be the first step to let people know about the product, overall satisfied for my lantern.

    Nice aesthetics with average sound

The Mooni Aurora Mini Speaker Lantern is a nice looking speaker with a few shortfalls. Pros: * Quick setup. I had no issues pairing the device via Bluetooth to my iPhone. * Great aesthetics with cool RGB lights/effects. There are 9 different colors and 4 different color modes. It is easy to switch between them. * Includes an extra battery for the remote and a lightweight carry bag. * Long battery life on a single charge. Cons: * Sound quality is average - if you are looking for audiophile sound this is not the speaker for you; however, given its price point the sound quality/clarity is about what I would expect it to be. The bass is minimal. * Only includes a USB cord for charging. You must have the adapter plug if you want to charge from a wall socket. This is something that should be included. * Budget remote - This thing feels and looks cheap. My biggest worry is this will not last long severely limiting the functionality of the speaker. Overall, if you are looking for a speaker that has nice aesthetics with RBG capability on a budget and less concerned with audio quality this is the speaker for you. I think with a few tweaks the company could really push this speaker to be a strong competitor.

Attractive Design, Good Volume, Poor Details

Pros: * Attractive and cute design * Speaker has surprising volume * Lighting features are nice * IR remote control is convenient Cons: * Sound clarity is tinny * Bluetooth connectivity not as robust as others * Some features are not as convenient as expected * Questionable build quality My Review: This is an attractive and fun portable speaker that doubles as an ambience light. You can choose the color and brightness of the lamp as well as choose from 4 different light patterns if you’d prefer something other than just a solid color. The lighting features are independent of the speaker functions; you can have audio and/or lighting and control both from the provided remote. The speaker also has a pleasant voice to inform you of things such as “Power On” and “Speaker Connected”. The provided USB charging cable has a right-angle connector and the lantern has a notch for the wire so it can be plugged in and still sit flat on a table. Battery life is OK for its size and price, but is nothing exceptional. While everything works, there are some things I expected that this didn’t deliver. Bluetooth pairing to my iPhone 11 Pro was easy enough although nothing special; go to the Bluetooth settings on your device, find the speaker and pair with it. Once connected, music control from the remote worked as expected. Unlike other similar speakers, though, turning the mooni back on later didn’t automatically reconnect it to my phone; I needed to go back to the Bluetooth list in my phone’s settings, find the “mooni” speaker and tap it to reconnect. There is also a button on the remote labeled “Bluetooth” that enables/disables the speaker’s connection to the music device (phone, etc.). I’m not sure why you’d want that, but given that it’s there, I would expect it to work better. When the speaker IS connected, pressing that button disconnects it from the phone with no audio confirmation on the speaker (I would expect the voice to say “Speaker disconnected”). Press that Bluetooth button on the remote again and the speaker says “Power On”, even though it was already on and the Bluetooth was just togged back on. You might expect the speaker to reconnect to the phone upon turning its Bluetooth back on but nope - have to traverse the phone’s settings to re-connect the speaker again. The lantern part of the mooni is kinda nice, but it, too, doesn’t quite meet expectations. There are buttons on the remote to brighten or dim the light, but this only seems to work when the light is on solid color. Switch to one of the light patterns like Strobe or Fade for a nice lighting effect, but only at a fixed brightness level. The power button is on the underside of the lantern and isn’t very easy to find in low-light situations… the type where you might want this lantern to liven up the mood. Given that there’s a provided remote control, I would have preferred that instead of button to toggle the Bluetooth connection, there were just a power button on the remote so you wouldn’t have to pick it up to turn it on if you had the remote handy. Another thing that would have been nice is if the lantern would have returned to the same settings the next time it was turned on. Every time you turn on the mooni, it’s back to mid-brightness white light. And as already mentioned, you have to find it in your device’s Bluetooth pairing list to re-connect before selecting it as the audio device. Lastly, the build quality control isn’t quite there. The first one I got blew out the amplifier when I turned up the volume to about 75%. The replacement one works up to full volume, but has stray plastic from the manufacturing process stuck on the inside. This wouldn’t be an issue if it weren’t for the lantern part of the unit casting shadows whenever the light is on. Overall, this is an attractive light/speaker combo but with a few rough design/implementation edges.

    1. Packaging is above average no more plastic clinging 2. Light is nice and csn be changed to different levels of brightness although not super bright. 3. Ip44 rated right in the bottom basically splash resistant. 4. Decently loud but lacks bass. (tested with my galaxy note 10 plus) 5. Charge time pretty for the battery size. (1200 mah) 6. Would like to see a party mode for joining multiple speakers.

Overall— this is a neatly crafted gumdrop looking speaker. It’s design makes it feel unique in just about any room. The shape plus it’s lights and opacity give it a wonderful glow in a lit up room. There’s a function button at the bottom which allows use without the cheap rf remote (more on that below). The carrying handle is a nice addition as this thing is very bulky and otherwise would be an inconvenience to take anywhere. The overall (exterior) construction feels well made. However, unfortunately, the positives end there. First, and probably the most noticeable, the sound it delivers is quite poor. For comparison, the entry model ($30) smart speakers from the 2 most known brands out perform this speaker. It sounds like mid to high pitch sounds is all it can produce. The next issue isn’t so much of an issue and more of an inconvenience but (possibly due to shape/material) the rf remote included is a hit and miss. If you press a color or function it often doesn’t register so you’ll need to press it a second time. The next issue is new to me as I hadn’t encountered before and just as I typed this review the music was cuttting out. I had the speaker about 3 feet on a side table by my desk, which concerns me a little as to why it would have so much interference and cut to static like that. The final issue Is back on the construction topic I covered above. As I mentioned, the exterior seems well made, however, the interior might be a different story. 2 days into ownership and I noticed there’s something loose inside. Like grains of sand, silica, or a diode from the led lights inside, who knows. Without a legitimate way of opening it up I’m just grasping at straws at this point. Wishes for product— An integrated app that allows color changing/effects. A way to open/remove the base and speaker to be able to actually clean the side walls without risk of getting water to the speaker. Conclusion— at this price point I wouldn’t recommend ownership. If however, the manufacturer suggested something like $30 it’d be more onboard with it. Seems a bit overpriced as is.

This product definitely has a Swedish vibe to it. Its packed in what appears to be a cotton bag before being placed inside the box. Nice touch. It was not charged so it required about a 3 hour charge. It is charged with the included USB cable but there is no power brick which seems to be the norm these days. It turns red while charging. It also has a remote for some basic functions. There is an included battery in the remote plus an extra ! Pairing Bluetooth was fast and simple. I use it with my IPad and Android phone with no issues. Now for the sound--its acceptable at any volume but don't expect thunderous bass. It serves as a background music device, and it performs that function very well. Its an enjoyable crisp sound. Oh yeah its also a light. I have not come across something like this before but it makes great sense. Perfect for camping or sitting in your backyard at night with friends where you want some ambient light. That light can be White, Red, Green or Blue and a few shades of each. You can also change the brightness, all from the remote. You can also get a bit crazy and have it strobe through the colors or fade through them. I tend to use the White at medium intensity and that's fine. You can also play music without the light. Using White at medium intensity and playing music through an iPad it lasted almost 9 hours. This is basically a simple idea very well executed. I understand two can be configured to be stereo but I only have one.

The Mooni Aurora Mini Speaker Lantern. This is a device that connects through Bluetooth displaying different lighting effects in 8 different colors adding sound from a Bluetooth device. The lighting effects include flash, strobe, fade and smooth. The device comes with a remote control that control the colors, the lighting effects and sound. The speaker is what it is - a speaker. For music the speaker takes me back to the days of the 60's listening to a transistor radio. Because the speaker is so low in sound quality, I would have trouble recommending the product. The lighting effects are decent. Battery charging is done through a USB cable. But, the speaker is its downfall. I don’t see an obvious need for me to use this. It’s not terrible. It’s not great.

I picked up this speaker for my 10-year-old daughter who loves music and dancing to it in her room, or out in the yard, or wherever she can. It's a really nice little Bluetooth speaker with some neat lighting effects. It was very easy to set up and use. After unboxing it, I fully charged it per the instructions and getting it connected to her iPad via Bluetooth was really easy. It comes with a little remote to control the lighting effects. It offers a good sound for the size and price but this isn't some "booming" speaker with a whole lot of bass. It's a solid speaker, lightweight, and well made.

I really like this little speaker. Super lightweight and the colors are amazing! My phone stays connected even at quite a distance. The sound is deep, not tinny. I like that you can choose a single color or have it cycle through them all. It's still too cold for patio parties but this will be a hit! I'm including just a few of the many colors available

In the box, is the mooni speaker/lantern, a mooni protective cover, remote, a remote protective cover and an instruction manual/flyer. If you're looking for a nice addition to your speaker collection, don’t buy this one, especially if you are looking for a speaker with bass. Don’t get me wrong, the speaker sounds good, being that it is a 5 watt. The sound is indeed rich, but weak. Songs that tend to have more treble sound so much better on this speaker. It feels like when the bass of the song picks up, the speaker gets quieter. In my opinion, this speaker is great for small children, the lights are very cool with different colors to choose from and flashing lights. I also think that the sound is great for them as well, since you could play lullabies softly without keeping the child awake with loud noise. The sounds of the speaker does fill up a small room, if the sound on the device is turned all the way up. So you won’t have to listen to their music. The manual talks about how you can hook two speakers at the same time, which would probably make it sound better, maybe a double side by side bed room configuration; one speaker on the left and the other on the right side of the room. A nice feature of this speaker is the easy set up. All you do is press the “master” button on the bottom of the speaker, and wait for the speaker to say on. Then you pull the little tab out the remote (that controls the colors), and press the bluetooth button. And hooking up like any other bluetooth speaker. The speaker's lights does make up for the sound. The remote design is very simple and straight to the point; press the button for the color you would like and/or the colors of the flashing lights. They’re about 5 modes you can have the speaker on. “W”, which just makes the lantern light up white. “Flash” which makes the lantern flash every color provided. “Strobe” is basically flash but slower. “Fade” , which each color slowly fades into one another. “Smooth” (my personal favorite), which is like fade but it goes with the beat of your music. The colors that the speaker has is the basic ROYGBIV, with an exception of lighter blue and orange. The speaker has an internal battery (meaning that it is wireless), it’s strongly recommended to charge before use, (which i agree it lasted an 1 hour before it died straight out the box). It takes about 5 hours to fully charge and last for about 4 hours of consistent use of the speaker and the "smooth" lights setting. This speaker overall is okay, I would probably use the lights more than the actual speaker. (I have a teenager, so she probably won't like this product as much.) Would I recommend this product to friends and family? Maybe - I probably would highly recommend to friends and family that have smaller children that would get the most use out of this product. I would also recommend to friends and family that play sounds for sleep or people that go camping.

First thing you will notice is the packaging of the Aurora Mini, its well thought out with soft pouches included, one that holds the speaker and the other that holds your documentation and Micro USB charging cable. The Aurora Mini is designed in Sweden and manufactured in China. The speaker itself is very light but still feels well built. Prior to using the Aurora Mini, its Lithium Battery must be fully charged. As I mentioned, the Micro USB cable is included but what’s not included is a wall adapter so you need to use one you already have. Also included is a remote that is used to control all of the functions of the speaker including volume, skipping tracks etc as well as giving you the ability to customize the colors displayed by the Aurora Mini. When plugging it in to charge, the speaker illuminates in a soft red glow to signify that its charging which is pretty cool, the red glow turns off once the Aurora Mini is fully charged. Battery life is claimed to be 3.5 – 9 hours which is a big swing, I will tell you that I used it for just over 4 hours and it was still going without needing a charge. Once fully charged I was able to pair it with my iPhone 11 Pro Max very easily and on the first try. With the 9 different colors and 4 different color modes, you can set the mood with ease via the remote. OK, so its got a cool design and will look great outside on those summer nights with the illumination, but how does it sound? Surprisingly, it sounds a lot better than I thought it would. The 5W speaker lacks deep bass but most speakers of this size do, there is adequate volume and with the Splash Proof feature you can use this at the pool as well with no concerns. Overall if you are looking for a cool little speaker with some interesting features to be your backyard companion then this can certainly fit the bill.

    Neat light, bad speaker

I really wanted to love the Mooni Portable Speaker lantern, but for me the product falls a bit short. The lantern itself provides a lot of light with quite a few colors. I like that the brightness is adjustable, and plan to continue using it as more or less a night light in my kids room. Unfortunately, this product feels like they created a really neat lantern then slapped a very cheap speaker and Bluetooth into it to appeal to a wider audience. If you’ve ever been unfortunate enough to have been on a long flight and forgot your headphones, so decided to use the airline’s complimentary earbuds, the sound quality is quite similar. Virtually no bass, and the sound is “tinny”. It is very clearly a lantern with an attached speaker, and not a quality speaker with a lantern attached. If they make a 2.0 version of this with a higher quality speaker, I might be willing to give it a try because I do really like the concept of what they’ve done. Unfortunately, for me, they just really fell short on audio quality. I have been happy with the battery life so far, so there will be some situations I could see myself using this. It could make an okay speaker for bath / shower time or perhaps sitting in the backyard or by the pool, just for the sake of portability and battery life, but for anything I’m planning to listen to music for an extended time, I’d prefer something designed as a speaker, instead of having a speaker as an afterthought. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. I couldn’t in good conscience recommend it unless future versions improve audio quality.

I feel like this is a nice looking glow lantern first, and a bluetooth speaker second. The sound quality is slightly above average for a driver this size and definitely gets louder than your phone or tablet could without breaking up. I am a little disappointed that they did not capitalize on the empty space in the lantern to improve bass. The lighting features and remote are cool and the glow is nice and even. The kids enjoyed changing the colors and patterns of the light show. The speaker held up fine to splash testing and seems well sealed. I got around five hours of battery life per charge with the light at full brightness and volume at about 75-80 percent. The bluetooth range was good and once paired reconnections were quick and reliable. All in all I think it does its job for the price but there is still room for improvement on the sound front.

The Mooni - Portable Speaker Lantern screams adorable when opening. The design is very sleek and simple. The Mooni is easy to plug in and charge and comes with easy to follow instructions for setup. I did not have any issues pairing the Mooni to my phone through Bluetooth. No issues with connectivity is something I often cannot say. There is one button on the bottom for power on and off and some basic light functionality control. There is a remote that allows for further light customization of settings. I enjoy having a remote like this; however, there is no good place within the Mooni to store the remote. This makes the remote something I will be prone to lose, or at least misplace compared to the Mooni itself. Since the remote is not required for function; not a necessity but would be convenient. Given price range of the product, the sound quality is adequate. I was able to play music while walking, relaxing, and even cooking with clarity in sound and no major distortion. This speaker lantern is portable as advertised. Another lovely feature is the LED colors themselves. This provides lovely ambient lighting. This is not enough light to adequately light a room; however, the ambiance it gives is fantastic. The lantern aspect of this product, very satisfying. This product was able to last for a few hours without being plugged in, making it practical. I would say that this product lives up to the name.

This was a good idea at heart. I have some bluetooth speakers with light up functions but they were more for blinking with the music than straight light. I really thought this would be great balance. Right out of the box, you notice the unique design. I really liked it. It gives off a minimalistic feel while adding to the atmosphere of any room you put it in. Alternative, you could take it camping, and it would be a great touch to the campsite. The build quality feels solid. I had no complaints about the structure. It's fairly light and portable. I would have liked to see buttons for controlling the music somewhere on the lantern. It also comes with a remote. The light functions were good. There are 9 colors: red, orange, yellow, green, dark blue, light blue, purple, teal and white. There is not much adjusting you can do, but I thought that was understandable given the price point. You can keep one color throughout or switch between colors with various effects (flash, slow transition, etc.). You can control with the remote, but the remote tended to not work at times... Next, the sound. I was incredibly disappointed with the sound. It gets decently loud, but other bluetooth speakers at this price point have much better quality. It also had some connectivity issues for me. I don't know if it was my phone or the speaker. However, I did not have that much issues with other bluetooth speakers. All in all, I don't know if I can necessarily recommend this speaker. It doesn't perform either of its tasks (lighting and music) particularly well. I do understand that there is the price point. I think you can find lighting and speakers that perform better in the price point. I do think this combined product is a fairly unique idea but one that needs work.

Upon opening the box, I was met with a rather lightweight, modern looking, light-diffusing lantern. It looks very Swedish (probably because it is). The instructions were very simple and straight forward. I knew the first thing I needed to do was to hook it up to the USB charging cable that it came with. It’s kind of hard to see, but when the Mooni is charging, there is a red glow from the inside. If you’re in a brightly lit room you may not notice this. Turn the lights off in the room and you’ll see it. It was fully charged in a couple hours. It also comes with a remote that had one of those removable tabs to prevent the preinstalled battery from running down. (Mine was also packaged with a spare Li ion coin battery, just in case.) Now I followed the simple instructions to sync the bluetooth with my phone. This was a breeze. I did find out later, however, that every time I wanted to play music, I had to go into settings on my phone and select “Mooni” to connect. Many other devices that I have connect automatically when they power up. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I don’t think so. Anyway, not the end of the world. Before playing any music, I started messing around with the lights using the remote. Kind of cool, I guess. Not necessarily for me, but I could see how it would provide a bit of a party ambience in evening lighting. One of the remote settings, “Strobe,” sort of syncs to the beat of the music. Fortunately, for me anyway, you can also turn the lights completely off. I can only imagine that doing this will increase battery life. Now to the sound reproduction… I’m not sure how to say this without sounding too negative, but I need to be honest. The Mooni Aurora Mini 2.0 is the tinniest sounding bluetooth speaker I think I’ve ever heard, and that was after adjusting equalizer on my music app (I happen to be using BlackPlayer). Let me put it to you in another way — my son had walked through the room while I was listening to “So Much to Say” by the Dave Matthews Band. A good song intro to test out highs and lows, especially when the bari sax kicks in. A couple minutes later he came back through after I had just picked up the Mooni. He asked, “What’s that?” I told him what it was, to which he replied, “Oh. I thought you were listening to your phone turned way up and I wondered why.” That pretty much explains it. Not much more I can say.

This speaker/lantern is very minimalistic and looks great. The colors look great on this thing. There are no buttons on it other than the ON/OFF button at the bottom, right next to the charging port. The most difficult part of the whole thing is keeping up with the remote that comes with it. You can't use this without the remote, used for pairing with your streaming device and lighting it up. The speaker is about what I expected, though. It is a decent sound, but not very deep. It is perfect for my 8-year-old daughter to use in her room. I would probably be happy to take it on a camping trip, as light as it is. The speaker is the only reason I'm knocking off a star.

The Aurora Mini Lantern by Mooni is a very stylish, cute in its cartoony way. The lights are fantastic and it has a variety of settings for the lights (fade, strobe, etc). The sound quality isn't terrible, but I didn't feel it sound be able to get louder. Also, with certain song it was a bit tingy and there wasn't a lot of bass. One thing that really annoyed me is that any time I got a call, the bluetooth would drop but stay connected. That would have been fine, except it wasn't really connected and I had to disconnect and reconnect to get the bluetooth working again. Also, this could be the music steaming service I was using, but if the music was already playing on my phone, the speaker won't pick it up when connected and just start playing.
