This is a solid cable modem stricktly for Xfinity customers. There are a lot of great things I can say about this modem. Its fast, easily to set up, light in weight, and will save you $180 a year renting Xfinity’s modem. I get almost 950 mbps download speeds with this bad boy and almost 500 mbps on Wifi. Contrary to belief, the Wifi signal is strong on this modem. Buy it, you’ll never pay another dime to rent Xfinity’s modem again!

The setup was easy. I didn’t have to call Xfinity. I could enter the MAC address information online. The app is okay. The speed is good…. Not quite the 1GB speed, but pretty close

Why pay Comcast (Xfinity) for a modem?

I have been a fan of owning my own modem since I learned it was possible 20+ years ago. I saw no reason to pay Comcast for equipment (if I could only figure out how to get my own extra TV boxes, I'd get set!). My previous modem (Arris TG1682) worked fine but since I was getting emails from Xfinity telling me that I was not using my full download speed, I decided to finally upgrade. I had great luck with Motorola modems previous to my Arris modem so after a little research, I took the dive back to Motorola. Setup was easy. The important thing is to go to Xfinity.com/activate first unless you have another source of WiFi to connect your computer. You can use your phone but it is a little bit of a pain. You need you CM MAC number. Once you enter that via the Xfinity website, it is simple. The system then will look for your modem (thus you need to plug it in and power it on). Once the system finds it (took less than 5 minutes for me), it is activated. I had to call Xfinity for the phone and to have the old modem removed from the account. This took all of 5 minutes once connected to a real person (wait time was 10 minutes). There was no need to reset the modem as per the phone instructions since the internet was working. You need to talk to a real person and give them the CM MAC number. As for the MotoSync app, it is fine. I can tell you who is connected to your system. I use an external router for the home so that network is connected via Ethernet cables to a hub that splits to feed a TV, my work laptop and my work Vonage. All in all, very simple and noticeably faster than before. No complaints. Then again, it has been setup for only 1 hours!

Needed a new modem/router and this works perfectly with our Gig+ plan with Xfinity. Had to call tech support to add it to the account, but it works fine. I’m consistently seeing incredible speeds on the 2.5Gb port, so I’m happy with that. We do not have the digital phone service but it’s nice to have the option with the built in landline phone ports if we needed it.

    MT8733 vs Grey Xfinity Modem

Compared to the Grey Xfinity modem: 1) It's slightly larger 2) Setup is just as easy / no more difficult than grey modem 3) Airflow seems a lot better with large vents on both sides 4) It's PSU is an external wall wart, not an internal one like the Grey modem :-( 5) Has many more lights on the front, cluing you into what it's doing! 6) Its web interface feels a bit more "sharp" and "technical", as is the Motorola design aesthetic 7) The iPhone app is functional, but not amazing. It has a neat graph feature to see what devices are using the most bandwidth 8) Most of all, makes you feel great saving $15 a month!

It's been a month and the router is running as expected. Lots of people doing bad reviews on the WiFi. I have not had any WiFi issues in my home. Even outside I'm getting over 300mbps on my S10 Galaxy. Best buy took care of my needs as always and had the router in stock. I have no complaints.

Compact design and stable Wi-Fi signal. I bought a modem from another branch at first, then I returned that due to its bad Wi-Fi signal and chose this Moto one. I’m happy to see this product has a very stable Wi-Fi signal and the app is also very useful. I also like the compact design of this product.

The parental controls are garbage. I can't set a basic stop start time. when I try it says "End time must be Bigger than start time." which makes these "features" completely useless. There are basic functions completely lacking like website blocking. you have no control over anything useful. The wi-fi signal and speeds are ok, but nothing deserving of the $409 price tag. You would be better off just getting a basic cable modem with VoIP and wi-fi router with better features and functionality.

When I first set this up, I thought it was great! I was able to set it up with Xfinity without any assistance and I mirrored the Wifi names and passwords of my old router so i didn't have to reprogram all of the devices in my home. I love the app and how easy it is to manage. Once i set up everything, my phone connected to wifi and i did a speed test. Wow! The speeds to my phone were double what my old router could get! I was ecstatic. My old router separated the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands. This router combines the bands but has the capability to separate them if you like. I have devices that, with my previous router, could only connect to the 2.4ghz band, so I had SSID names for each band. Again, I didn't want to spend time reprogramming certain devices, so i did the same with this router. It works well overall. I was really happy with my new set-up - for about 24 hours. The 5ghz band suddenly just stopped connecting and it showed in the app that all the devices connected to it were no longer connected. So I rebooted the router. The issue was fixed. The problem is that this issue reoccurs every few days, so I'm regularly rebooting the router. I find that inconvenient, thus the removal of a star. I don't know if this happens with anyone else. I also use this router for phone service since i work from home and it works well on that front. Overall, it's good, but not great in my opinion.

I live in a community that has a central alarm system, so I needed a modem/router that supported voice. Since, I was using Xfinity for my internet and landline, this product was ideal for me to purchase. In short the unit has performed flawlessly since I purchased it over 1.5 years ago. The product was very easy to set up and I love not having to pay a monthly fee to Xfinity to rent their product. Also, my TV connects wirelessly through this product. My streaming has IMPROVED. Look, I am not a tech wizard so don't be intimidated to buy the product. You will love not seeing that monthly rental charge disappear; and in less than 3 yrs, you will be even happier that you have recouped your capital investment.

I have paid a monthly fee for a modem for years. As provider charges escalated year after year I finally decided to turn in the rented modem for a purchased one. This modem was recommended as the most compatible with my current internet provider. Installation was simple and this modem has worked flawlessly. No more monthly charges for a modem. I should have purchased this a long time ago.

I bought this combo router/modem because I couldn't get the newer Netgear to connect with Xfinity. When I first connected it I as pulling around 600MB/s download speeds on wifi, however I have a 1GB/s plan. Ok well its much better than what I was getting before. However, the speed is unstable. I connected via ethernet to the unit today and am getting around 300Mb/s but only about 90 on wifi. Coverage is also very bad as my Sony Bravia TV in the basement has an extremely weak signal and constantly buffers when streaming. My old Netgear system didnt even do that. If I could still return it I would but apparently not

Good router /modem combo for Xfinity cable/phone service. Speeds at approx. 800-900 mbps, roughly 4/5 of advertised levels consistently, which is about usual in my experience, even for LANs. Not five star because it disconnects too often requiring reboot/restart of system. Still I would recommend.

    Incredible upgrade from Netgear

I upgraded to the Motorola MT8733 from the Netgear C7100V. Yes, it was a huge jump from DOCSIS 3.0 to 3.1, but it goes far beyond that. The UI as well as the advanced configuration capabilities makes the Motorola 100 times better. I had been using the Netgear C7100V since getting the Xfinity Triple Play package over 10 years ago. Netgear has done NO updates or upgrades. They just gave up. I kept holding out for a new Netgear product, but there was nothing that did Wifi and phone. I installed the device and had both data and voice up and running within 20 minutes. If you’re considering a new gateway device for Xfinity’s Triple Play, this is it! Definitely 5/5 stars! Aimple setup. Easy for beginners, yet extremely technical once you click on Advanced. Expensive, but well worth the price!

I purchased this to replace my Comcast router and have greater control over local settings. Ive had very good success thus far (it has been about 1 month since it was installed and no troubles other than a manual reboot. What drew me to this model was that it is a modem AND a router whereas some modems have multiple ethernet ports but are NOT setup as a router but instead are if you need your ISP to assign IPs to each individual port. Small but very important distinction. Also, this has the ability should I want to add VOIP. It is very fast, easy to setup and is a great replacement for my Comcast issued modem.

This modem/router sets up like most I've encountered however it doesn't have a way to save your programmed settings. Since I have owned it for a month, it has self reset to factory defaults on 4 different occasions. Since my wife works from home and uses the Wifi it disconnects her from the network and she can't get back on until I reprogram the settings. This is very annoying for both of us.

I ended up getting it cheaper, but it worked great on Xfinity for about a year. The app and software left a lot to be desired, but I was getting the speeds that were advertised. I started having issues with the Wi-Fi as it would drop off randomly. After a series of factory resets, it's gotten to the point where it's just barely working. The ethernet ports still carry a consistent connection, but the WAN side just crapped out. I can't even log into the modem without running into trouble if getting in at all. Motorola does make good products, more specifically their phones, but I no longer trust their networking products. Would not recommend especially for the price they are asking for it. Disappointing.
