Overall I'd rate this machine very well and recommend it to friends and colleagues. The biggest complaint I have is all of the bloat ware that is installed, and this bloat is re-installed when you create a new user profile. Biggest plus - the machine has great specs, a solid build, it performs well gaming and it's not super loud. I also own the Asus Zephyrus with the hexacore i7 and 1080, I actually prefer this machines layout (normal keyboard placement, no funky ventilation system). Even though this machine only has a 1070 I'd pick it over the Asus.

I had been looking for a new laptop for months, and considered many different sizes and models. Having used 17" Macbook Pro, and 11" Macbook Air, and 13" Dell detachable, I found that for my current office and content creation needs, at 15" would be optimal. I purchased a number but returned them for varying reasons, including HP Spectre X360 (2017 and 2018), Dell XPS 15 2017, Dell XPS 15 2-in-1, and almost a Lenovo 720 and 730. But I finally found what I was looking for in the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin. My only hesitation was the price as it was considerably more expensive than all the others I tried. But it offered the least amount of compromises critical to me.
1. It's noticeably lighter than other 15", which is noticeable both when traveling and on your lap.
2. The screen is great. It's matte, which often doesn't have the pop of glossy screens. But this is plenty bright, with great colors. Plus no reflections now. Best matte screen I've seen.
3. Keyboard is comfortable. Many of the others I tried have shallow, low-travel keys. They're not terrible, but they're different and not as comfortable as the MSI's normal keys. I also like that there's no num pad included so that the trackpad and keyboard are centered on the screen, unlike the new HP Spectre 2018. I like how the keyboard is towards the bottom of the deck, so my wrists are cutting into the edge, as they do on most 15" laptops. By the end of the day I have red edge imprints on both wrists. No problem with this one.
4. Trackpad is good and is Windows Precision. Responsive without any issues so far.
5. Webcam is at the top of the screen, unlike some others at the bottom. I'm in video conference calls often, and the bottom webcams are terrible for this.
6. Super powerful. I'm not a gamer, but I do Adobe content creation. I finally have a laptop more powerful than my 5 year old workstation desktop.
7. Quiet. For most office related work, the fans are silent and it runs cool.
8. Sound is clear and loud enough. For common use, occasional web video, it's more than sufficient.
9. Design is classy and elegant. Black metal with gold accents. There's some creakiness in the joints, as the metal is thin, but this probably keeps its weight down. A fine trade off to me.
10. Battery life is relatively good. I've read that most gaming laptops fare poorly in battery life, or are big and heavy to house a larger battery. I get about 6 hours of common use (not gaming). It's not great, and not the level of the 11" and 13" low power laptops I have, but it gets you through most of a day.
I had never bought a gaming laptop, and never an MSI before. But I'm really impressed, and happy after a long search. I have a hard time imagining someone being unhappy with this machine.

I have now had this rig for a couple months. It has been rock-solid so far. I purchased ti, while on vacation, after my 2104 Razer Blade Pro moved on to the great recycling bin in the sky.
It is fast, quiet and stable. While it can get warm under high-demand gaming, it does not get hot like the Razer did.
The Razer had a higher-resolution screen, but the MSI screen is perfect for gaming - fast and responsive.
I am very happy with my purchase and recommend this laptop to others looking for a high-performance laptop.

This laptop is just beautiful, it's amazing how thin this thing really is once you hold it in your hands. It is unbelievable that there is a GTX 1070 inside.
I use it for work and play Destiny 2 at max settings and can't notice any issues. If you plan on using it for work it blends in inconspicuously, no one will suspect you playing at work ;)
I can't stress this enough, this thing is so thin and light...how the heck is this possible? I urge you to walk into your nearest best buy and pick this thing up, you're welcome.

This is hands down the best gaming laptop under $2,000 that money can buy. The performance is stellar and best of all, it comes in a very sleek and portable package. This is perfect for those that want to game on the go. No need to haul an entire gaming rig with a tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. The Razer Blade might have a more robust construction, but it is also much more money. This laptop also doesn’t have the strange keyboard layout that the Razer Blade 15 has (look to the left of the right shift key).

Almost everyone would agree to the superiority in quality and gaming performance of this laptop. I will say that this computer will run heavy spatial modeling and Remote Sensing analyzes like nothing. It would rarely become slightly warmer than 78 degrees for a short time (great cooling system). The biggest thing that my peers would say about this MSI GS65, at first sight, is the keyboard programmable light show and the fact that you can keep track of the Overall Performance through Dragon Center.

Oh My God. What can I say, this laptop is hands down the best purchase I've made so far. this laptop does wonders for me when it comes to gaming, school work and much more. The graphics card and game graphics are just amazing. I've looked and have done many weeks of research to find the greatest laptop and this hands down is the best. Super fast, super smooth and the laptop doesn't over heat like crazy.

So I've had this laptop for only a little while, and while wanted to rate this at 4.5 stars, Bestbuys rating system doesn't let you. Overall, this is a fantastic laptop that I highly recommend. 8th gen I7, gtx 1070 (maxq), 16gb of ram, 144hz ips like screen! All in a sleek slim profile! Simply amazing, What more could you ask for? But I have encountered a couple things that I didn't like about this laptop. Immediately, I noticed right away that the cpu will thermal throttle under an intensive load. I know that because this is a slim design some sacrifice had to be done on the cooling system. Understandable. My work around on this was to under volt the cpu and it is a must to have a cooling pad. It runs warm but at least it doesn't thermal throttle completely now. Maybe considering a repaste to further reduce temps. I'm not docking MSI for that, as you can only do so much in that space. However I would dock MSI a half star for this next issue. The other thing that i don't like on this laptop is that, if you want to upgrade/expand storage or components, you have to take the motherboard out. Yes, you read right. Although, it doesn't seem to be too complicated, its still a huge inconvenience. I just wanted to simply put in my spare m.2 drive that I had, but it seems like that's going to be a 45 min job and some praying so that I don't break any ribbon cables. With that said, I still love this laptop. Its just so beautiful and has the perfect amount of power behind it. Highly recommend.

Returned an Alienware immediately after opening due to scratches on the case after months of shopping around. Bummed, but I decided on the MSI after talking to a few associates after a few weeks and I have not been disappointed. Pure class from opening the device to the set up and ease of use. Works great as a general computing device and does not disappoint in the gaming department. Love the screen, keyboard, and general build of the device. Looking forward to playing the upcoming titles of the year.

I wanted to buy a laptop for school and also to play games on. I was thinking of buying this laptop or the new Razer Blade 15. I ultimately decided on this laptop for the specs it had for the price. The same laptop Razer offered was 600 more than this laptop. Also I had a $100 student coupon and was able to price check it for $50 when it went on sale a week later. This thing can run any game you want and when surfing the web and doing other simple tasks the battery last for a good amount of time. The only cons I have about this laptop is it gets pretty hot when gaming. I am seeing around 89 C. I undervolted it and it helped a bit. Also I wish the laptop was a little more sturdy for the price you. It doesn't bother me a lot, but the laptop could be made of something more sturdy. Other than that the screen looks great and I love the thin bezels.

I've had this laptop a while but I wanted to make sure it was put to the test before writing a review. This laptop has exceeded my expectations. I've played the most demanding 4K games on it, edited 4K video content, created websites, and it has yet to fail me. Games play amazingly with the 144hz refresh rate screen and the GTX1070 has performed beautifully. It's sleek and unassuming and perfect for the gamer who has to work as well!

I did a lot of research before purchasing this laptop and I'm not disappointed. While it runs a little hot and the installed Nihimic software makes the speakers really low for most purposes, the build quality and performance are excellent. I get excellent frame rates on games on high and ultra settings. I will need to delete the Nihimic software and reinstall the Realtek drivers so the speakers play loud enough for gaming (I don't always like to use my headphones). Overall, great gaming laptop.

Bought it yesterday, so initial impression is really good. My first MSI. Very fast, screen is sharp and bright enough. Keyboard works well, mouse pad could be a little better. Wish it had a SD card reader - will have to order a USB dongle. YouTube reviews saying case is flimsy are over stated. Has some bloatware, but that is easy to deal with. Will take a little time to get used to the slightly different keyboard layout. Will take me a couple of days to finish installing all my programs...

First things first. This laptop is built tough! Great serious look with the black and gold.
After the first real windows update which took about 2 days to download, it ran great. Before that, the fans fired up for the most basic task. Battery life became better as well.
I only have two negatives about the gs65. For one, it would be the upgrading process. After watching a couple of videos on YouTube, you learn that everything is located under the motherboard... A gaming laptop shouldn't make it this difficult to add new ram or SSD. Secondly, the ports on each side. Since I use this for video editing and audio editing, I had wires sticking out the sides. Would be nice if they were in back. Outside of that, the rgb is cool, the build is solid and the screen is gorgeous with the 144htz.

Its overall an exceptionally well performing laptop. It has been able to run any game i have played in the highest graphical setting the game has to offer without any lag. Furthermore, the keyboard lights are customizable to your liking. Although when I first started playing games it had the tendency to heat up a lot but if you change the fan speed from auto to cooler boost it will not heat up as it did before. Overall I give it a 10 out of 10. It exceeded far from my initial expectations.

I bought this laptop after weeks of searching. I wanted something light, decent battery life for my commutes, and still horsepower under the hood for when I need it. It has slightly more depth than my work issued 5510, but this is mainly due to the design for cooling. Comes loaded with some default MSI programs and Norton, but easy to remove what you don't want. I also appreciate the builtin Ethernet port, allowing me to plug in a cable when at my desk for the best speeds.
