    Great Semi-Gaming Laptop, But...

The MSI GE62 Apache Pro is a great laptop. The Steelseries keys provide decent tactical feedback, paired with the Nvidia GTX 960M graphics card with 2GB of dedicated VRAM proves this machine to be an amazing powerhouse in a small 15.6" package. That being said, let me cut straight to the point. I struggled to like this laptop - believe me, I tried everything to make myself like it. Ultimately though, I ended up returning the product for a few reasons which I feel every buyer out there should be aware of before they jump the gun and purchase this MSI laptop. First off, if you're a tall person like myself and you have hands that fit your height, the keys on this laptop will prove a bit of an issue. Since the keyboard on the MSI is a full body keyboard, it feels like MSI had to move the keyboard over just to accommodate the numerical keypad. In addition to the keyboard being moved over, the numerical keypad keys are just too darn small. Making it almost impossible to use the keys in an efficient manner when you have bigger hands than the average person. So let me chalk this up: Keyboard, decent/good. Size of the keys plus the numerical keypad, okay. Another issue I had with this laptop, which ultimately was another deciding factor of mine to return it, was the insane amount of heat this unit could generate with just performing basic daily tasks. Even with the Shift Technology MSI boasts will help throttle your CPU/GPU and help keep your system cool, I found my units fans kicking on after simply booting up the unit and loading up a browser - mind you this was after I installed an SSD for the boot drive and had a clean install of windows 10. If I pushed my system a bit more, I found that the keypad/touchpad would get so warm that it was uncomfortable to set my wrist/palm on the laptop. While some may argue that this is a Gaming Laptop and thus it's going to get warm, please note that I understand this. Gaming laptops get warm, but they should never become so warm that they become uncomfortable to hold on your lap or rest your wrist on. A good gaming laptop should have such great cooling control and airflow that it doesn't get any warmer than the body temperature of the individual using it (such as the ASUS ROG G751JT). These two factors, excessive heat during mundane tasks and poor placement of the keyboard of the unit are what ultimately pushed me to returning this system. Will this system work for you? Possibly. Would I recommend it? No. I feel that for the amount of money you're putting into this unit, you could get the equivalent or even greater value if you put your money into another model/brand. MSI has always boasted in its line of Gaming Notebooks. I think they need to work heavily on their cooling performance and keyboard placement. If I'm buying a Laptop for gaming, chances are I don't need a tactical keypad to go inside the keyboard. Save that for the 17" laptops, where the keyboard won't have to be squished and will provide a nice addition to the unit.

Still have not had a chance to fully test the capabilities of this machine but thus far looks very fast and capable of running multiple apps at the same time.

Not as good as a desktop, but a solid gaming machine for a gamer on the go.

I bought this laptop as an upgrade of an older, much older laptop I had for years. The specs are pretty great for the price and it is intuitive to use as well. It runs on windows 10 64 bit, which is great. The product satisfies my needs quite effectively, it has some nifty features as well like the colored and backlit keyboard is heavily customizable. The gtx970 works just fine for me, and the added cooler boot is a great feature as well. The only thing I have against it, and it is minor, is that the brushed aluminium finish is a pain because it asily registers smudges from the touch. ( oils from skin). But other than that I have had no complaints.

This laptop has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it. The graphics are crisp. MSI provides software designed to maximize the gaming power. While not a big reason for me to purchase a machine, the design is very cool. I like the LED keyboard and the illuminated logo. The 9 key number pad is a bit crunched to make room. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.
