Beast of a laptop. The fact it has a full RTX 2070S just can't be beat for the price. Although I prefer 4K gaming, the FHD at the higher bits and blazing refresh rate can't be beat. I tether you an external monitor for 4k @ 60hz/HDR no problem or I will drop it down to 1440p @ 120hz on the external display. Works great. I was looking for a more mature design that could deliver and this checked off the boxes.
Pros:
Solid build
Mature design for work and play
Crisp customizable RGB for those gaming sessions
Great thermals for a laptop
Keyboard feedback and spacing is comfortable and reliable
240hz screen and blazing speed
Cons:
Loud (this is a common complaint with this laptop, honestly I don't find it any louder than other gaming laptop around).
Speakers - they face the bottom and are underwhelming to say the least. I use externals or a headset so for the bang for buck I can live with it.
Design - slight tiny gap between the light bar cover and keyboard rest...dirt easily gets in it. Not so much noticeably unless you're looking for it. Compressed air does the trick but for the price point, it should have been rounded off and covered.
No windows hello
Should come standard with Win Pro instead of Home
--------
All in all. I recommend it if you've got the coin and are looking for a VR ready gaming laptop that doubles in power for productivity.

Great gaming laptop if you can shell out the money to afford this. 32gb of factory installed RAM is great if you have higher RAM needs.
Comes with drawbacks as you would expect from a gaming laptops like fans are loud but for gaming on headphones should be no problem, heavy power brick which can weigh about a ultraportable laptop. Laptop itself is heavy as well.
keyboard and trackpad is great, no touchscreen (which shouldn't be a shock for this is a gaming laptop)
240 Hz, RGB is great

I am using this for editing my illustrations, teaching online, and learning how to use After Effects. My old Macbook Pro had only 8GB of memory, and this was a major upgrade.
To get something from Apple that is somewhat comparable (not a NVIDIA graphics card though), it was over 3k. This machine is an INCREDIBLE value. I mainly got it to handle creative software as I am a digital artist, and I have started to multi-task more as I edit my illustrations.
Everything I've run on it so far hasn't lagged (even with multiple Adobe software opened at once). I love that I also don't have to carry around an external webcam anymore. The one on this is 1080p and is great for meetings. I travel a lot, so the less I carry, the better. Although the GE66 Raider with its battery is a bit on the heavier side, it's worth it for what this machine can do. I can't wait to play games on it later too!

Great Overall Laptop, Good Desktop Replacement

After only having experiences with desktops since the days of Wolf3D and DOOM, back when I was a kid, I was in the market for something to replace my PC build from 2010. I didn't want to build another PC and while I strongly considered buying a pre-built desktop I realized that it just wasn't necessary to put money into a gaming PC, especially with next-gen consoles coming out.
This laptop though might as well be a desktop with the specs it comes with. Out of all the GE66 models, this model comes with the strongest GPU in the RTX 2070 Super, which posts higher FPS marks than the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q found in the more expensive models. The only thing you don't get compared to the most expensive model is the i9 and a 300Mhz display, but the price tag on that model is $800 more. Not to mention these 10th gen chips are already hot to begin with so moving up to the i9 might not be the best idea.
Yes, this thing idles at about 45-55 C. It has good cooling though and temps dont get above 80 from what I have experienced so far. However, like most gaming laptops, these fans get loud. The good news? They arent loud when doing simple tasks like browsing the internet, watching movies or anything like that.
I have this hooked up to my 4K TV via HDMI and everything runs great, it's basically a desktop for me. Make sure you set your GPU mode to discrete in MSI Dragon Center though, otherwise the display will be very choppy on the TV.
The design itself is fantastic, you've seen it and even if you aren't a fan of the RGB strip you can simply switch it off and it still looks better then most laptops available.
Comes with Norton, which was promptly uninstalled and that's about it for bloatware. Everything else is MSI and SteelSeries utility apps.
Pros
-Practically a portable desktop
-Quite while performing simple tasks.
-Minimal Bloatware
-Great design
Cons
-Poor speakers
-Fans can get very loud while gaming
-No Thunderbolt Port
While this price on this laptop may seem high, the value that you get is excellent compared to the rest of the market.

Powerful laptop, thermals are excellent and the screen is great. Even though I hate LEDs the lighting in this laptop is really cool. And the keyboard feels really nice and quiet. My one and only gripe with this laptop is the speakers, holy poop, if you're paying over 2k for a laptop you'd expect it to sound at least serviceable.

This is a great and reliable laptop. Gaming is smooth and temps are controlled well but fans can be a bit loud, if you're not using headphones when gaming. The screen is great, the keyboard is comfy and a little squishy, and the 32GBs of RAM makes everything nice and fast. The only real draw back is the speakers but I use headphones or external speakers so it's not a big deal. The RGB and Dragon Center can be a little weird at times but any issues are usual resolved after restarting the laptop again. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star rating is that my unit has a weird issue with the screen panel literally popping off from the left corner sometimes when I open the laptop up, this will be solved with a trip to geek squad. So the build quality on the panel is not quite there but the rest of the body is pretty solid. I'd still recommend it though just make sure your unit is good to go in terms of build quality.

This is a fantastic laptop. As a gaming laptop, it runs Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra at 2k and has no problems whatsoever. It’s definitely the most powerful 15in laptop I’ve ever owned. As others have said, the fans can be kind of loud at times, but it’s not horrible. The only time they really get kicking is when I’m playing games on high settings; when I’m not gaming the laptop is completely quiet. This should be expected though, it’s get a 2070 super in a 15in laptop frame, which of course generates a ton of heat when it’s being pushed.
Now, the downsides. The speakers are absolute garbage. I’m no audiophile and therefore can forgive a lot sound wise, but these things are what I would expect in a laptop made in 2000. Nothing a headset can’t fix, but I don’t like using a headset all the time.
The other downside is the MSI Dragon software. It’s clunky and buggy and serves no real purpose other than some customization options. I set it the way I want it and then I stopped it from starting. The SteelSeries software which controls the lighting isn’t intuitive at all, and took me a minute to figure out, but once I did it worked well and had no discernible bugs like the Dragon software.
I use the laptop with external monitors so can’t really attest to screen/keyboard/touchpad quality because it sits on a desk in a corner with the lid down unless I’m traveling for work, which hasn’t happened in 2020.
All in all, this is probably the most powerful 15in laptop on the market and I am very happy with my purchase. Hoping to get many good years out of it before I need to upgrade.

I recently got it on sale during Black Friday for $1699. Here are my thoughts:
Pros:
- If you are able to get it on sale, the specs of 32RAM, i7 (6 core), 2070 Super Max-P are basically impossible to beat with any other brand at that price point.
- The keyboard lighting is cool and tranquil and an attention getter in a good way. I love it.
- The thermals are really good. On my unit at least. The chip and card seem to be well-matched, and the chip rarely touches 80-85 at max. I play a lot of Red Dead 2 and it sits in the high 60's/70's and is perfectly acceptable. GPU never gets too hot. Keyboard never gets hot. The bar above the keyboard and under the monitor sometimes gets warm to the touch, but never uncomfortably hot like other laptops I've tried... I use a cooling pad if I'm really going to game for a bit, but I think everyone should. A good cooling pad is $30.... but so far, haven't needed to undervolt or do anything advanced to control the temps.
- I really like the function key that illuminates all the other keys it affects, and the ability to change the keyboard lighting or fan speed or brightness or volume very quickly with shortcuts
Cons:
- MSI pre-installed software is really buggy... to the point it started interfering with games (NBA2K21 had a hard time starting and kept minimizing uncontrollably). Also, Norton Antivirus is pre-installed and messes with stuff... There was a lot of bloatware... The keyboard lighting was buggy and would freeze. Some other minor issues as well. I was considering returning the unit because of this, but ultimately, decided to totally reset the hard-drive and clean-install windows from a usb, and re-install the software I wanted program by progam... kinda a pain, but it runs beautifully now... Something to consider, if you're looking for something awesome out of the box, and the only reason I give it 4 stars.
- While the look of the laptop while it's facing you is beautiful and stunning, the look of gray exterior (not sure why they mismatched colors from exterior to interior), I don't love... but that's minor and can be fixed with some stickers or skins.
Final thought: I don't know if I'd be jazzed to buy this at $2199, especially with the 3000 mobile chips coming soon, but at $1699, it's a great deal. And it should play games beautifully at 1080p for quite some time. And do you really need anything more than 1080p on a 15" laptop? It's a great machine and great deal if you can get on sale.

Beautiful screen. graphics flow perfectly with 240 MHz screen and 2080 super nvidia. Solid key board and programmable lighting. User upgradable memory and storage slots is perfect to grow with my gaming and designing needs. Vast array of outputs to meet just about any need. Sometimes it’s the smallest things but this laptop has the power connection in the real. Finally an engineer got something right!! Only negatives are the usual loud fan on high, huge power converter plug and it’s a bit pricy. But in the end it is a great looking laptop try hat was worth the price.

A few days ago I purchased the new Alienware M15 R3. The design was superb, but the performance on the other hand was not so great. I am a gamer and content creator and was disappointed in both categories. I played Warzone and it was stuttering non-stop and only averaging 50-70 FPS and pushing 95-105°c. I expected more out of a $2100 laptop.
In doing a lot of research I came across this MSI GE66. It had very similar specs to the Alienware - 10th gen i7, 2070 Super, etc. So I decided to take my chance on this bad boy and it has blown my expectations out of the water so far. In Warzone I did not have one stutter and averaged 170-200 FPS consistently and averaging 65-80°c max on temps. Like WOW! Another thing that sold me was the included 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD (Compared to Alienware’s soldered 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. On top of that this MSI can be upgraded to 64GB RAM and include an additional 2 NVME.2 SSD slots.
Build quality: I will say the one con about this laptop is that the outer appearance isn’t that great. It’s rather bulky and reminds me of a Ferrari body kit. The inside however is freaking gorgeous. That lightbar in the front is totally unnecessary, but freaking cool! The laptop itself is a bit on the heavier end, but with good reason since it’s packing all that power. The laptop is mostly heavy duty plastic, but built well. As far as I’m concerned MSI delivered a stellar product.
I have further testing to do, but as of right now I would recommend this laptop 10/10 for both creators and gamers. Hope this helps someone!

A great gaming laptop. It's extremely fast. Startup is around 10-15 seconds because of the NVMe SSD, which is a huge improvement compared to my old laptop.
As for ram, 32GB is more than enough for heavy gaming and some light editing work. At idle I'm using around 4-5 GB, which is fair, but can probably be improved upon if you turn off all the Windows 10 "features" that offer you suggestions and keep track of everything you do.
From a design standpoint, MSI really did their homework here. Build quality is solid and feels great in the hand. The metal lid is really nice and can be opened with one finger. The exterior LED bar looks awesome, but can also be disabled to prevent unwanted attention. The keyboard keys are nicely spaced, have a great tactile feel to them, and are comfortable to use. The screen is a bright 3ms IPS panel for accurate colors, and the bezel surrounding it is small, which contributes to the premium look of this laptop.
I was also very pleased that the amount of supplied bloatware was minimal. You can also disable the switchable graphics to discrete mode only through the Dragoncenter app for even more performance. As a result I'm able to get around 110-130 FPS on Battlefield 5 with all settings maxed out at 1080p and raytracing disabled. If you enable raytracing you'll get a 40% hit to your frame rate, but it's still very comfortably above 60 FPS. So yes, you can get a 60 FPS raytracing experience with this laptop!

This laptop is amazing. The screen looks great for 1080p and has several optimizations to get it just the way you want it. For gaming this thing is a beast. I have a desktop I built with an RTX2080 and this thing is pretty close. Sure I'm comparing this at 1080p as opposed to the 4k that the desktop is pushing but the trade off of the laptop being similar at a lower resolution is perfectly fine. I haven't connected to an external 4k monitor but would expect a drop off in performance if I did. The fans are quieter than I expected even while gaming. The speakers are the main complaint of this laptop. They sound awful compared to cheaper laptops that I've had. There is some customization in the software but you will still want to use headphones while gaming for the best experience. The build feels solid with half aluminum, half plastic. There is little give in any part of it and it doesn't feel like it will break from normal use. This one is heavy enough that I fear a drop could break it. The keyboard is pretty standard. It has good depth and a slight click. It feels above average in comparison to other laptops. At the cost of this laptop it feels fine but definitely not the best out there. The RGB is fun to look at. I like that you can customize it to your liking, or if you don't want to see it, you can turn it off. Battery life isn't the greatest but it isn't bad for such a powerful laptop. I used my August birthday coupon and saved some money on this. Overall price is a little more than what I would have liked to spend. With the coupon I feel it was about the right price for what you get. The laptop is a great performer. Games look great and run smooth even on the highest settings. Comparing it to other laptops with the same options this machine ends up being a deal (even though I said it was more than I wanted to pay, but that's why I bought it was price comparison). If you were on the fence about this laptop or between this one and other brands, I would recommend this one. You won't regret it.

Laptop has a lot of SSD Space and Ram.
2070 Super is a fantastic Graphics card.
It has a 1080p Camera.
The keyboard is backlit and has RGB lighting.
Fan speed is a little loud, you can limit the FPS in-game to lower it to bearable levels.
Battery Levels are really good for a gaming laptop. You can put it on battery saver in Windows/Dragon Center and it will last longer than most other laptops I have had.
Much better deal than other retailers as well!

By far one of the best laptops I have ever owned. I purchased this in Dec of 2020 and we are now in fall of 2022. Still runs just as well as it did the day I got it. The keys have held up great and the surfaces are scratch and damage free. As for performance I am playing elden ring on max settings 1440p at 60fps on a 2070 super (mobile). The only thing that upset me is that literally a month after I bought this the models with 3070s dropped and they were even cheaper. The newest model out now is the G67 Raider and it is 500$ less than I paid for this model. It has the ONLY mobile OLED gaming display available on a laptop and since Linus Tech Tips featured it , it has been sold out everywhere. I hope to get one ASAP! I still have a warranty on mine so assuming it goes out soon maybe they will give me a buyout or free upgrade to the newest one. Hard to tell with the great quality of MSI. This machine has out performed and outlived my expectations already. 2-3 years is the longest you should be running a gaming machine before it becomes obsolete.

After he had an Acer Predator for several years, we decided to upgrade our son's gaming laptop recently. After careful research, we decided upon this fantastic laptop from MSI. Our son has had it for over a month now, and he is most impressed with the processing speed, graphics, and of course the keyboard. It is certainly not cheap, but if it is in the budget we have found that it ticks all the boxes and is an excellent choice.

Very Impressive Laptop and Fast Solid State Drive

Very fast. The Solid State Drive SSD is twice as fast as the SSD on my two year old Alienware laptop. I'm very impressed and happy with this MSI gaming laptop and it was the first time I have purchased on non-Dell / Alienware computer in over 20 years. The 1080P screen is very clear and easy to read text on. Keyboard and touchpad work great. It is cool to play around once in awhile with the lighting on the keyboard and front of the computer. Build is solid.
I had a lot of anxiety if I was making a mistake by buying this instead of an Alienware, however the price for the hardware was great on this MSI computer during the holiday sales, and after opening it up and using it for awhile my anxiety disappeared. Only two negatives: On very intensive graphics games the fans do get loud, but so do the fans on my old Alienware. The speakers are ok, but not as good as the speakers on my old Alienware now passed on to my child as an 11 year old XPS that he was using for online school stopped functioning causing me to decide to purchase a new laptop.

I've had this computer for three days now and it has exceeded my expectations. The RGB Aurora light bar looks better than I thought it would. It's very smooth and can easily be dimmed or turned off if it's not your style.
The keyboard feels great to type on. The keys feel sturdy and have a good amount of travel and resistance. There are function keys for everything you need. The touch pad is solid and accurate. The big things I was excited for are the 240hz screen and 2070 super gpu (non-max-Q). MSI has done a great job with cooling on this one given it's power! Although this also comes in 300hz, I think the 240hz screen is more than enough for 99% of people. It's fast, smooth, crisp, and is even a pleasure to use just browsing the web or watching videos.
Of course I couldn't write this without mentioning the design and build quality. The entire shell and lid feel like metal. It is the best feeling plastic laptop I've ever seen, there are nearly no visible seams, or flex points. The screen has minimal flex as does the rest of the laptop. This computer perfectly balances a professional look while still maintaining the aggressive modern gaming look. With the keyboard back lighting set to white, and the light bar off, this is a very minimalist, presentable laptop with the subtle angular accents at the hinge.
For the price, I couldn't find a better laptop that is this good at everything; great build quality, great performance, great looks, and great usability!

I got this laptop a few days ago and it has been incredible. I downloaded a few different games to try and get a sense of what this laptop is capable of. Here’s what I’ve noticed so far:
- Every game looks and runs amazingly. I only had an issue with one game but that was because of a Steam setting. Once that was fixed there were no problems.
- Games have very short loading screens. If there are tips to play a game, there is rarely time to read them
- There are a huge amount of options available to customize the keyboard colors and the bar. The bar is a little bright for me so I’ve turned it off but I am going to look for an option that works for me because I do like it.
- There are options for charging the laptop based on how you play. I usually keep mine plugged in so I chose the battery saver option. It will charge the laptop to 60% and begin charging again once it drops below 50%. This has been amazing because now I don’t worry about my battery prematurely dying
- The fan is powerful but it is loud. It doesn’t bother me but it might bother some people
Overall I highly recommend this laptop for anyone like me that enjoys gaming and cannot have a desktop

Here's what I love. Almost everything. This is replacing both my laptop and my desktop. i7-10750H, 32GB RAM, 1TB Drive with a Nvidia 2070 Super video card. I would have paid $500 just for the card to update my older desktop, plus other upgrades. I am already a SteelSeries fan, so love the keyboard.
I took advantage of the Black Friday sale and got a smoking deal for this laptop as well, so the price was less than other top models with lower specs including Razer and Alienware.
So only one complaint directed at the manufacturer - MSI. Seriously, no Thunderbolt 3? I need a dock, so relegated to USB-C at less than half the speed. This means no pass through video and severe limits if you try. I looked at the GS66, but there were a LOT of complaints about thermal issues and I would have to buy upgrades to get to the level of this deal.
If Thunderbolt 3 is a deal breaker, this isn't the one. I am still on the fence over this one thing. I have to decide if I can live without it or not. But most people who buy this wont need it, and if you get a price like I did, its well worth the price!

Purchased during the recent $500-off promotion Best Buy was running on this laptop. At the original price, I would've typically skipped over it as I wouldn't have seen the value in purchasing such an expensive laptop over building a more powerful SFF machine for around the same or slightly less price. However, holy tomatillo, this laptop is a beast! Everything I've thrown at it, it handles with ease. The specs alone are top notch and rival dedicated tower builds I've had in the past. One area that surprised me the most was that even with all the insane specs included under the hood, they were still able to cram the largest battery allowed in a laptop. Engineering was marvelously done here. Yes, I could bash it a little for the loud fan noises and/or very hot temps near the top of the key plate, but why? It's a laptop that crammed a powerhouse into such a small space. Those two items get a pass in my opinion. Oh, and I have to talk about all that RGB. At first, I thought this gimmick had been highly overplayed. Now, I have this thing lit up like Christmas morning everyday. I've been sucked into RGB land and can never look back. Darn you shiny twinkly lights. HA! All jokes aside, this is one excellent laptop. Yes, at the original price, I still feel it's too expensive, but at the price point I purchased at, it's a no-brainer.
