I did my first upgrade in 8 years. I’ve gone from a 4790k to the 12600k…now, time to pick the motherboard. Have you seen how many motherboards are on the market? After spending several hours over numerous days, I decided on the MSI Tomahawk DDR4 with WiFi. This mobo is sleek, and beautiful. There’s no RGB, which was a win for me. It supports DDR4, 4 nvme drives, and has built in heat sinks for them. That alone is amazing. The vrm heat sinks are well made, and the aesthetic on the mobo is great. There’s room for 6 Sata drives, and it supports all of the latest technology. That’s a huge win for people building on a budget. There was no issues installing the board, I was a little nervous on the tower cooler, but the Noctua DH-15s cleared all of the slots and heat sinks. The performance of the combo I chose is better than expected. Everything is lightning quick, the BIOS is awesome, and this board even came with a thumb drive pre-loaded with drivers. There’s a sticker pack for the board. They look nice, but I enjoy all the black, so I omitted them. There’s honestly too many features to list, and for everything you get, the price point is superb. There’s a detailed user manual, registration is easy (it’ll ask for a chk #, it’s on the side of your 24 pin connector) and having an integrated IO shield was a big plus. Great board, great performance, great aesthetic, and awesome onboard sound! I would not hesitate to buy it again and will be looking at MSI for future builds (I’ve always been an ASUS guy…). Best motherboard and nicer than the Tomahawk z690, the bios is better and easy to upgrade, I did return 2 Tomahawk due to problems after the bios update. Almost most of my stuff is bought it at best buy especially when the do price match.

I was shopping for a while and finally landed on this MSI mobo. Overall, it works great, no issues of any kind, but it's not what this review is about. I want to briefly explain why I picked it and why I believe this is the best DD4 option in its price range. First of all, it's MSI, and MSI has never let me down. There are cheaper options out there, but if you're like me and want your computer to look good, those are all just terrible, as far as the looks go. This MSI Tomahawk is stealthy and slick. No silly LEDs, minimal text. It's just black and blends in perfectly. Then there are other options at a similar price point, like Asus Tuf or Aorus something Pro. First of all, for the love of god, don't ever buy Aorus or Gigabyte, they're junk. And the Asus? Well it looks about $100 cheaper and people are reporting issues with RAM, so it's just leaving us with limited options if we want something good with DDR4. It's this MSI Z690 Tomahawk and MSI MPG Edge and... well, that it, really. (Asrock has something out there that looks alright, but I'm not too familiar with it). It's already annoying that most DDR4 offerings are in the cheaper range (can't call them budget though), I would have gladly paid $450 for a Carbon board if it was available with DDR4. Ok let me summarize, I realize my review is not very objective as far as features and capabilities go. It's just all motherboard in this price range have pretty much the same features. They all have good power delivery and all that... and the design of the board is of course subjective too, but it's my opinion, that if you want a full-featured motherboard with DDR4 support for your new 12th Gen Intel, this MSI Tomahawk is the best looking one, and frankly, looks above everything else in its category.

Very simple installation and posted immediately without issues. Would highly recommend. You miss out on some rgb lighting with this model but its worth the savings. Would buy again!

Looks very nice in my build, no funky colors to try and match, just pure black! Came packaged very well and runs my i9 12900k very qwell

Excellent motherboard. Has all the basics for gamers: auto OC, XMP profiles, and a lot of M.2 slots.

Absolutely no problems with this motherboard, worked with my i5-12600k and trident z neo RAM.

I had ordered this motherboard from Best Buy and when it arrived it was defective so I sent it back to be replaced. Unfortunately, when I received the replacement it was also damaged at the same stand-off of the NVME SSD top slot. it was like they packaged up my original motherboard and sent it back to me

All the connectivity you could ever need. Every time I'm trying to do something new with my system, it turns out this MOBO already has a provision for it. Truly top tier gear at a reasonable price. Built a system from the ground up and this thing has ran perfectly from the moment I switched the power on. Not much else to say really; it just works.

Easy installation, easy to use and very clean looking.

i upgraded my CPU, GPU, and thought it best to also update my motherboard. I stream + game from the same PC and it's been working flawlessly. Really sleek design, and I appreciate all of the solid plates covering the delicate parts.

Would recommend this motherboard over the MSI Z690-A Pro mainly for the look and additional heatsink. Totally worth the extra money for a better-looking motherboard with extra utility and even a stronger VRM. The bios even look different, with more color on this board compare to the A Pro and it works with Intel 12th gen out of the box.

This motherboard works just like it should. Not complaints here. I would recommend this for high end gaming.
