Can't go wrong with MSI's products

I was in the market for an ultrawide monitor for a longtime, and did purchase with another brand. However, due to some QC problems, had to return and began my hunt again. I had (and still currently do, top 2 monitors in photo) MSI monitors before and they have never let me down in terms of quality and durability (survived 3 moves and a little knocking around, they're still going flawlessly), so when I heard MSI was releasing a new lineup with a 49", I was already sold, it was just a matter of getting one when it was available.
I was going to buy two (essentially replace out my top monitors), but after my first set from a different brand ruining that experience, I held off. Currently beating myself up for not now after unboxing this and getting it plugged in. For the price, alone, I am blown away from picture quality. I think it's comparable with its competitors, but has the edge given the base pricing (not to mention more dedicated experience in the gaming space versus others). It does have an automatic pixel refresh (since OLED) and I have it set to where when the monitor goes into standby or shuts down is when it will do the refresh automatically; it is initially set for every 4 hours of use up to 16 hours.
If I had to given any major critiques, it would be the outer packaging; everything inside was packaged great for the most part; the screen, itself, did not have a plastic protector on the front of it like the other set I had purchased (but seeing that as a MSI standard as my previous ones arrived the same way), but everything worked as should. Outside packaging, the box looked discolored, more pink than red as if it sat in sunlight. Although I cannot attest this is how packaging was purposefully made, made me curious why that transition. One corner of the box was pushed in, but the monitor was encased with styrofoam so zero damage to the monitor at all (this was, likely, out of distributors control and more so deliverer).
As of now, we're sitting at a 5/5 for rating solely for the base pricing, this gives this monitor some edge for those wanting to upgrade into the ultrawide monitors as well as OLED. Only time will truly tell how well this monitor will hold up!

I was worried about getting an ultrawide, especially a 49" one but I had a friend who recommended it. I was very excited at the prospect of a QD-OLED and thought I'd give it a go. I will never be able to game on anything but a huge ultrawide monitor ever again, its level of immersion can not be matched by a regular monitor. The Panel is gorgeous and the HDR content in games is absolutely incredible, I've been setting to 1,000 HDR for maximum brightness but even the true black 400 HDR looks stunning. I strongly recommend this monitor for anyone who has the space.

I bought this monitor to replace a 49" Samsung CRG9 and the difference is night and day. Going to OLED and having that incredible brightness and picture quality at this size and price (got a great deal on it). The burn-in protection and warranty is great albeit the protection having to run every 16 hours of usage can be annoying unless you set it up to do it when the monitor is on standby (highly recommended to do). If this monitor ever goes on sale again (I got it for cheaper than a 34" OLED) you should definitely get it ASAP. Not quite as many features as a Samsung G9 but is only 3/4 the price.

Wow! So bright! This is the first QD-OLED where I don't have the SDR brightness maxed. HDR is phenomenal. The color is so good, I wasn't sure it was on. MSI gives you a choice of True Black 400 or max 1000 nits. I haven't seen that in any other monitor. I don't think a picture can do justice to how rich the colors appear. If you have anything less than an RTX5080 I think 144hz (which means 144 FPS in games) should be fine. It is also very nice that it has a Rgb mode and Premium Color. Also a 3 year burn in warranty and maybe the best OLED care out there.

Just picked up this new 49" QD-OLED monitor. Got this one over the Samsung for the 3 year warranty, built in KVM, and a better monitor control UI. Really happy with my purchase so far. The colors are awesome! The 32:9 aspect ratio takes a bit to get use to but once you do it would be hard to go back to 16:9. Some games have issues at this aspect ratio so do your research.
You can see just how big this monitor is when you compare it to the 34" 21:9 that I have mounted above.

I've also owned the aw3423dwf with a first gen qd-oled panel and found them to have very similar overall picture quality and brightness. The same type of panel care pop-up as the alienware models, which I got used to. It did not ship with a protective film over the screen, just a foam wrap. This has been known to cause damage to the alienware monitors, but the MPG491 arrived spotless. Good job, MSI!
It has an updated subpixel layout, and I didn't notice any text fringing so I'm satisfied. I'm replaying rdr2 in HDR and max settings using a 3080ti and it's such a joy to look at in 32:9 aspect ratio. I'm happy with 60-100fps depending on where the slider is on the geforce experience optimizer. YMMV
I am ultimately going to return this monitor, however, due to the presence of a dead pixel right in the middle. At $1100 this equipment should be PERFECT.

Shipping box design was a nice feature from the start. Very easy to open, get to and setup the monitor right from the packaging, also very secure. This is my first ultrawide coming from a pretty old 16:9 32 inch Samsung. I immediately appreciated the extra space. I mainly do coding, photo editing and your basic stuff with the intention to expand my sim racing to pc. At first, text was a bit hard for me to read, but with some quick adjustments, I'm pretty happy with it even without any scaling.
The colors on this monitor are just amazing, so vivid and intense yet fully distinguishable. I did hook a console up and had no issues getting full console mode. Colors are excellent on console as well.
Since my first pc build several decades ago, I have used MSI and every subsequent build since. This is however my first MSI monitor. I am quite pleased with this monitor thus far with no real complaints. Minor issue of the bottom trim plate not fully seating on the apex of both the left and right side curve. This is only noticable when standing above view line and looking down. This was only visible due to light reflection in that area otherwise I would never know.
All in all I am happy with my purchase and glad I held out for a bit and got this MSI monitor. Overall recommend.

The MSI MPG 491 OLED monitor has completely transformed my workflow and gaming experience. My favorite aspect is the stunning OLED display, which delivers incredibly vivid colors and deep blacks, making games and media look phenomenal. I chose this monitor over others because of the ultra-wide 49-inch screen, which gives me the ability to multitask with ease. It fully meets my needs, especially for gaming and content creation, and even exceeds my expectations with its crisp resolution and fast response times.
I am more than happy with this purchase, as this is a great addition to any setup, or even a great single monitor for a setup as the possibilities are endless.

This monitor is a game-changer in the world of display technology. From the moment I powered it on, I was captivated by its vibrant colors, deep blacks, and razor-sharp contrasts. Each pixel seemed to come alive, rendering every image with breathtaking clarity and detail.
What truly impressed me was the monitor's superior color accuracy and wide color gamut. Whether I was editing photos, watching movies, or immersing myself in a gaming session, the colors were rendered with precision and fidelity, elevating my viewing experience to new heights.
Not only does this OLED monitor excel in image quality, but its lightning-fast response times and smooth motion handling also make it perfect for gaming and multimedia use. The high refresh rates and minimal input lag ensured that every frame was delivered with fluidity and precision, keeping me immersed in the action without any distractions.
On top of its outstanding performance, the OLED monitor's sleek and modern design added a touch of sophistication to my workspace. Its thin profile and minimal bezels created an immersive viewing experience, while the adjustable stand allowed me to find the perfect ergonomic position for long hours of use.
Overall, the OLED computer monitor exceeded my expectations in every way, setting a new standard for display excellence. It's not just a monitor – it's a window to a world of unparalleled visual experiences.

Upgrade Your Gaming and Working Experience

I’ve upgraded from an LG 49-inch ultrawide monitor to a new MSI MPG 491CQP QD-OLED, 49 Curved OLED Gaming Monitor that elevates my viewing experience with its OLED display and USB-C power delivery.
What I Like:
Expansive Aspect Ratio (32:9): The wide canvas enhances gaming immersion and provides ample space for all my essential applications during work.
OLED Display: The screen’s vivid clarity and unparalleled brilliance make every detail pop—OLED truly is in a league of its own.
USB-C Power Delivery: This convenient feature streamlines my workspace, allowing me to power my laptop and reduce cable clutter significantly.
Areas for Enhancement:
- Cable Management: Currently, the cables dangle conspicuously, requiring adhesive clips for organization. An integrated solution through the stand would be a more sophisticated approach. My previous LG model excelled in maintaining a clean setup, which I prefer.
- USB-C Cable: It’s notable that a specific USB 4 cable is necessary to utilize the full functionality of the USB-C port, which, unfortunately, is not included with the monitor.

Got the Samsung odyssey g9 oled and this monitor to see which one I'd like more. Got to use both and I'm going to return the samsung and keep this msi monitor. The colors pop a lot more on the msi and seems to get brighter than the samsung. I like that msi also gives you 3 years warranty unlike samsung which is only 1 year. Another good thing that I like is the extra protection with the oled care software which helps prevent burn in and I do like that this is using the new gen 3 oled panel. Only thing I dislike about this monitor is the stand, but that's my only critic about this monitor. Other than that, its amazing.

TL;DR, an excellent monitor and well worth the money. Better for gaming than for productivity.
The good:
Color and contrast
The glossy Samsung QD-OLED panel on this monitor is simply incredible. Light is fairly well controlled in my office, so I haven't had any issues with glare. I've got it at 40 percent brightness and that's plenty for my space. For gaming and content this monitor is something to experience.
Quality of build
Build quality is good, it feels like a premium monitor.
KVM switch
I was nervous about the KVM switch on this monitor since there's no remote or keyboard combo to auto switch, you have to use the little joystick. The great news is that it's mapped directly to the joystick, so just push it to the right and the input options come up. Select the input you want and it changes over seamlessly. I have my laptop plugged in over usb-c and my desktop plugged in via DP and usb upstream and it has no problems switching.
Peace of mind
Warranty - The MSI warranty includes burn-in, which was important. Even though I've read it's not as much an issue with this generation of OLED, I still wanted to cover my bases. I added the BB protection plan, so I feel well covered there.
OLED Care - MSI is pretty aggressive about their OLED care options, and I wanted that. Some other brands with this panel have some but not all of the OLED care features that this monitor has.
MSI firmware updates - from what I hear, MSI has been pretty good about releasing firmware updates for their monitors. That tells me they actually support their hardware and will work to fix any problems that come up. I didn't have that same confidence looking at some other brands.
The not so good:
Text
Ok, so the text is fine on this monitor, but I was hoping for *great*. I had heard that this generation OLED fixed some of the text issues with earlier models and I believe it. The text isn't bad at all. However, I bought an ASUS laptop a couple months ago with a QD-Oled and the text clarity on that screen is to die for. It's also 160ppi vs the 110 on this monitor. My wife has a 34" IPS monitor, also 110ppi and the text is sharper on that. The vast majority of folks should have no problem with the text on this monitor, but I'd give it a B or B+. It's my main gripe with the monitor and i admit I have a really high bar for it since I'm using it for work all day, and gaming at night.
Cables
Doesn't come with a USB-C cable, so budget the extra thirty or so bucks for one if you plan on connecting a laptop and want to use just the USB-C for DP, charging, and peripherals. I also replaced the stock displayport cable since I couldn't get my desktop to go above 60hz without the image freaking out. The new cable helped, but still didn't get it there, so I think it's an issue with my desktop GPU, but the cables do feel a bit cheap.
144Hz
They should have gone with 240hz. It looks great at 144hz, but as we've seen in other models, this panel can support 240hz.
USB 2.0
The USB ports are only 2.0 and there are only two of them. I haven't run into an issue with that yet, but in 2024 USB 3.0 should be the absolute minimum. Only two usb ports is also disappointing. I did connect a powered USB hub to one of the ports and it's giving me zero problems, even when using the KVM.
Overall I would have liked to see better connectivity from MSI on this beast, but the connectivity it does have seems to work pretty well. It's an enormous, beautiful, immersive monitor and I do recommend it. However if the majority of your time will be spent doing productivity, I might recommend getting a monitor with a higher ppi and/or different panel type.

Have purchased several monitors, both IPS and VA, trying to find one that I was happy with (AW3821DW, LG45GR75DC, etc.) Specifically was looking for a monitor that could be used for work, gaming, media.
Originally was not considering OLEDs as the text was too blurry. However, this MSI monitor checks every box! Large, high resolution, and clear OLED screen does not have the blurry text issues I was having with other OLEDs (42" and 48" LG C3). The built in KVM is also great, although the auto-switch functionality is a little aggressive when working with multiple inputs. All-in-all, this monitor is nearly perfect. Would be great to have higher refresh rates, USB 3.0 instead of 2.0, and higher brightness levels, but that will probably come down the line with new panels. For now, this is the best 49" OLED on the market.

QD-OLED, USB-C, HDMI 48gb, KVM, Anti-reflective Glass Screen, 3 year Warranty - Amazing deal.
I tried multiple monitors: Samsung Neo G9, Samsung G9 OLED and LG UltraGear 32GR93U-B. I was looking for the perfect size, resolution and form factor, 1 screen vs. 2, 1440p vs. 4k etc.
First, I had to return two Neo G9's due to some debrit behind the screens. Then I ordered the G9 OLED which I really liked the screen and size, but the screen had micro scratches after just one day and the lack of warranty made me return it. No one mentioned this in any reviews, but the G9 OLED comes with a small gel layer over the screen. It's very fragile too and you can make a permanent impression with a light touch of your fingernail!
I tried dual LG 32" 4k monitors and I was not a fan.
Along comes MSI and provides the same screen as the G9 OLED with a 3 year warranty parts/labor and burn! On top of the warranty, they have a normal anti-reflective coating that is WAY more durable.
This is easily the best value for a monitor this size that has the hardware to last a while.

Amazing monitor for the price I got (950). Love the color quality. It's been roughly 6 months of use and no burn in yet. I've used it for work and playing games.
With oled burn in is always a concern but I'm pleasantly surprised not a sign of burn in with the way I've used this monitor so far (the auto burn in prevention features from msi have been turned on).
Works perfect to power my laptop using USB C power delivery. Ultrawide feels perfect for work. It's a shame many games don't work with super ultrwaide by default.
I've not watched any show or movie on it yet. I use my TV for that.
Where i think this monitor could have been better is by providing DP2.1 port and having refresh rate of 240 Hz instead of 144Hz. Maybe slightly better brightness and anti glare but that's asking for too much.
Very satisfied with what i got here. Only reason i might upgrade few years later is if these shortcomings i mentioned are resolved.

Decided to get a wide monitor with the new Mac mini rather than the 24" iMac. The 49" wide screen in massive but it's exactly what we wanted. I have a mini dock plugged into the second HDMI for easy connection.

Overall great monitor that just works. I previously had another brands 49 oled monitor and had nothing but problem. So glad I decided to give MSI a chance as this monitor is awesome. Beautiful display, great blacks, no HDMI issues at all, great connectivity. My only complaints are the frequent pixel refresh screen poping up in the middle of gaiming, I wish it would just run when you turn off monitor. And that I am not able to power a micro computer through the 90w PD of the monitor. PD only works while there is a signal supplied to the monitor, which is a let down because it also makes the kvm switch not that great.
