The Msi R9 390 is an amazing gaming graphics card that in its price range (of about $330) dominates it's opponent the Nvidia geforce gtx 970 graphics card. I bought my R9 390 for my custom built gaming PC and I couldn't possibly be happier with the results that I got with this graphics card, I am able to max out all of my games on my 1080p monitor and my graphics card doesn't even break a sweat. This card is perfect for 1080p, 1440p, and even 4k in certain games. My system build consists of an amd fx 9370 (cooled with the corsair h110i gt), with 32 gigs of ram, an MSI R9 390, and a 750 watt thermaltake powersupply. This graphics card is a price to performance king with its 8 gigabytes of gddr5 memory (compared to 4 gigs on the gtx 970). This is a quiet beast that may gulp power but it produces amazing power and performance for a $300 card. Overall people will tell you that the r9 390 is just a rebranded r9 290, but the ram is doubled and the ram clock speed has increased by 1000hz, the R9 390 is not a rebranded R9 290 because that would imply that the two cards are the exact same thing which is just not true.

When deciding on a new build I picked out the MSI R9 390 because of the price / performance. I needed something I could adapt to 4k if needed and play today top titles at high/ultra settings. And this card delivered. The only thing that stopped me from getting the GTX 980 was the price. If Best Buy had this card in stock instead of sourced via their marketplace sellers I would totally get another R9 390X to crossfire. In play I found games using the "wonderful" Cry engine to be a little unstable at High and Ultra settings getting between 20 - 40 frames vs. games on Unreal Engines / Frostbite to be a blast at 40+ frames on ultra settings. Which isn't saying too much because both Unreal and Frostbite are both well optimized engines. This card runs hotter and requires more power than the GTX 980 counterparts but is well worth it in my opinion if you don't mind sacrificing a few high/ultra settings.
