Mysa’s air conditioner controller has a sleek, minimalist design with an LED display to show just the necessary data using numbers or emoji-like symbols. It’s simple, attractive, intuitive interface to control your AC either from the device itself, which can be mounted on a wall or set on a countertop with the included brackets, or the app installed on your phone. This means that rather than being limited by the AC's remote, you can monitor and change settings from anywhere you have data service on your phone. The setup is simple and convenient in theory - install the app, connect it to the Mysa device, and use the AC's remote to program the device to send commands to your window, portable, or split AC. I found in practice it wasn't as easy and convenient in parctice. The first issue was compatbility. It would not work on either my portable or window-mounted AC unit. I contacted support, and while they were helpful with codes to manually enter into the Mysa to get it to communicate with the AC units, none of them worked. I have a friend with an split AC in his home, so we tried to install the Mysa with that system. The system was compatible, but the app kept crashing right after selecting the AC units options. Tech support could not solve the crashing, but we were able to end up completing the setup by not selecting options. The Mysa then downloaded and installed the appropriate modules, and connectivity was established. Once set up, the Mysa operated seamlessly, sticking to the set schedule without issues. The app can also connect to Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. Using Alexa I was able to check the temp of the room and change it easily. You can schedule by choosing the time and days for changing, fan speed and your target temperature. You can create multiple changes per day or have totally different schedules for specific days. There are also general home, away, and vacation modes that tie into the geofencing, which is kind of cool. You can set the system to make the AC unit a certain temperature before you get home using your location. Once I got past the compatibility and app crash issues, the unit performed exactly as expected. I liked the clean, minimalist design design and display. The app is easy to use, and Mysa followed scheduling instructions without issue. Had the app crash issue not happened, the setup was actually simple. I certainly hope that gets fixed. While Mysa is claimed to be compatible with a wide range of air conditioners, it's imperetive you should check the company’s website to make sure yours is on the list. Also, if your remote doesn't have an LCD display, chances are Mysa won't work with it.

The Mysa Thermastat for Ac and Mini-Splits is a gerat idea that adds convenience to your life. It took a while for me to get a working code for my newer GE smart A/C. While my GE smart A/C comes with a good app it can not control several different brands of A/C units with one app like the Mysa app can. Mysa Thermastats and the app that goes witch them can streamline your control of a house with multiple window units, mini-splits and portable AC units. I have mine set up on my computer desk and really enjoy just being able to reach over near my mouse pad and turn my AC on or off, change the temperature and adjust the fan speed without looking for or having to point a controller or pull up an app on my phone. It saves a lot of time and constantly displays the room temperature whether the AC is on or not. It takes a little while to figure out the functions of the thermostat and I feel like the display could show more info to make it easier to understand. However, once you figure it out it is easy to use and very convenient. The app also has some useful features like being able to schedule AC’s for different parts of the day it includes a usage graph with information you can use to set up your AC accordingly by tracking ambient temperatures and the humidity levels in your home. While my current unit is just an AC it also works for units that do both AC and heat. I think it is a good investment just to reduce the stress and time it saves me from having to mess witha controller or my phone to adjust my AC. It is so nice to have a simple device next to my mouse pad for climate control!

    Great addition to non-smart mini-split!

Right up front, here are the pros and cons of the Mysa Smart Thermostat for AC and Mini-Splits: Pros: • Controls a wide variety of heating and cooling devices that come with IR remotes • Easy to set up and get working with your devices • Mysa app is very polished and easy to use • Looks good on the wall and comes with its own stand for tabletop application • Packed in 100% recyclable materials—good for the environment! Cons: • Current firmware isn't able to control a couple of functions of my mini-split, but the company says updates are coming! ~And here's my story~ I moved into a house built in 1963 a couple months before writing this review. The home uses a single head Daikin mini split with a big white remote control as the sole source of heating and cooling in the main part of the house (dining, living, and kitchen area), and has ceiling resistance heaters in three bedrooms, each with its own thermostat. When we first moved in, I looked at a few line-level thermostats to replace the original ones that control the ceiling heat in each of the bedroom. The Mysa line-level smart thermostats seemed to be exactly what I was looking for, but the cost to change out all three didn't seem like it was worth it, especially since I live the northwest US, where the climate is mild enough that I will really only use the ceiling heat on a few of the coldest nights of the year. What I really wanted was the ability to control the mini-split with my phone instead of the clunky old remote control. There were a few times where I forgot to turn the heat down before bed and had to get up in the dark and turn on lights to change the settings. Lo and behold, a couple months later Mysa comes out with EXACTLY what I need. Now I can change the settings on my mini split from anywhere! Thanks, Mysa! After using it for the past couple weeks, I can say I'm very pleased to own it. I now have smart control over my mini split, and I can forget about dealing with the clunky old remote. I found setup to be fairly easy, and operating the unit with my phone is simple and intuitive. I like the design, and the digital smiley face that presents itself whenever the unit completes an update or restart is pretty cute. I was particularly impressed with the packaging the unit came in—it's all recyclable carboard, with the only plastic involved being a protectant on the screen. The only issue I've had so far is that the Mysa cannot change the fan speed of my Daikin mini-split when the Daikin is set to the fan-only or dehumidify modes. When I reached out to Mysa about this issue, they assured me that a firmware update would come soon to fix that issues. I am still able to use the Daikin's remote control to manually turn up the fan speed in those modes, so I'm not too put out.

Not very good with my ductless mini-split

I have a Trane ductless mini-split installed in my upstairs bonus room. The mini-split is controlled by a wireless remote. The Mysa Smart Thermostat looked like it would be a great option to monitor and control the mini-split remotely without having to go upstairs and use the remote whenever I wanted to make a change. I installed the Mysa app on my iPhone, and went through the installation and pairing process. The Mysa thermostat was also added to Apple Homekit during this process. The Mysa thermostat went through an update and downloaded all of the codes for my remote. The installation/setup process was not very difficult and it only took about 10 minutes to complete the process. The commands that can be issued from the Mysa thermostat is limited to Mode Selection (i.e., Cool, Heat, Auto, Dry, Fan Only), Temperature Setpoint, Fan Speed, and Vent Swing Control. I tested each command and they seem to work, as expected. One thing that I noticed is the displayed temperature setpoint on front of the mini-split is not consistent with the setpoint on Mysa thermostat. Also, when making a change with the Mysa thermostat, it changes the displayed temperature setpoint on the front of my mini-split to Celsius. It does not do this with the regular mini-split remote. I also have the ability to turn off the display on the front of the mini-split with the regular remote, because it can be pretty bright when the room is dark. When any command is issued from the Mysa thermostat, it turns the display on the front on the mini-split back on and I have to turn it back off with the regular mini-split remote. The mismatch of temperature setpoints on the front of the mini-split to what is displayed on the Mysa, changing the displayed temperature on the front of the mini-split to Celsius, and brightening of the display on the front of the mini-split when issuing a command from the Mysa were all pretty significant issues for me. It may work for you, but in my case, the Mysa needs a significant update to meet my needs. I plan to box it up and go back to using my regular remote.

Thank you for all the great feedback!

We are committed to working towards each of these specific items - however, due to how remote codes may be captured this had created an additional hurdle.

Good choice for controlling multiple devices

I recently installed a mini-split and I wanted to have more control than just what is available with the manufacturer's remote control. The manufacturer does not make a good mobile app and I have discovered this is typical of most mini-split manufacturers. The Mysa thermostat was fairly easy to install. I downloaded the app, opened it and followed the instructions for connecting to my home network - it worked on the second try. Next is the pairing process with the mini-split remote control. This reminded me a lot of the pairing process you perform with most "universal" remotes where you try a code, then another until it works. I only had to try twice with the Power and twice with the Swing command to complete the pairing. I found that the Mysa moved very easily between my home SSID and the device SSID, so pairing was fairly painless. Then the remote went into an update process and that took several minutes. The manufacturer suggests you stop using your unit's remote control after you install the Mysa because it may lead to "conflicts." I find this strange given that you do not have to do so with TV and similar remotes, keeping the functionality of all remotes, but I did notice the temps were different on my original remote and the Mysa remote, so I can understand why they suggest that. The real advantage I see for using the Mysa remote and app is the ability to control multiple devices. This would be great if you have a mini-split and a traditional HVAC unit. However, just replacing the mini-split remote, I lose a lot of functionality, Like all universal remotes, it is not made to perform all the functions of the original device remote. And given that you are supposed to use one or the other, you do not have the benefit of keeping them in separate places. I can see using the Mysa app to prepare a room before you plan to enter it outside of a schedule period. Similarly, if you forget to turn down/off the AC/heat, you can do so from your phone. Also, if I had an older unit with a less functional remote control, I would prefer the sleek styling and easy control of the Mysa. For my purposes, I consider it expensive for being conflicting and complementary to my original remote control for the single unit I wish to control.

This smart thermostat has some potential with added features. However, right now it is a 3 star product. It was difficult to pair to my mini split despite the fact that my mini split is on their list of compatable products. With Mysa assistance we did finally get it to pair and it is working now. The Mysa customer service is first class. The app based operating stsytem is ok, but not any better than my mini split provided remote and app. The Mysa works by using the app in place of the mini split remote. One feature I like is that it displays house humidity that is something my mini split remote/app doesn't provide. The physical Mysa thermostat is modern and sleek looking, but rememember that it requires direct line site to the mini split so consider the importance of that. It operates by electricity through a plug/usb connection. You will need to find a table or shelf close to a receptacle and in line with the mini split for proper functionality. One of its features is a more accurate thermostat reading than the reading that you get from the minisplit itself. In that regard it works well. I feel the Mysa thermostat reading is a degree or two more accurate than the app of the mini split. I just wish it had more features, like perhaps, kwh usage so that I can track operating costs. That may not be an easy request, but I feel that this smart thermostat doesn't really do anything more than my mini split provided remote/app. Yes, it provided humidity level and a degree or so more accurate temp, but I do not think those features alone make this a must buy item. I can get the most important key features Mysa provides for FREE with my mini split provided remote/app. As to the physical thetmostat, I do not necessarily need it, I can see the same data on the app.

After an hour and probably 15 attempts, I finally threw in the towel. This ended of being one of the most infuriating experiences I’ve ever had trying to setup a device. I was trying to set this up to control an Insignia window ac, it has a remote that display's more than just the temperature like is required according to Mysa. With the factory remote you can change the temperature, fan speed and mode, so in theory this should qualify the device as compatible. For the setup process you must also use HomeKit ( at least for an iPhone), HomeKit can sometimes be good, but can also be a pain sometimes and completely not worth it. I think you should be able to just use the app and not have to integrate into HomeKit. I can’t speak to the functionality of the device as I was never able to get it to control it. After resetting, removing and reinstalling the device at least fifteen times, I was never able to get it to work. I don’t know if I got a bad unit, the app version I’m running has issues or what, but when a smart device causes this much headache, it’s not worth it to me.

We are sorry to hear that you had issues connecting your Mysa device!

Mysa does not require HomeKit to be used, but does have this available as an option.
This should be made more clear during the setup!

We will work to improve upon this experience - and if we can provide any further assistance please do let our support team know! mysa

Good Product IF it Pairs With Your Air Conditioner

Mysa Smart Thermostat is made to pair with portable air conditioners, or mini-splits. It is beautifully made & has a massive LED display that can easily be read across the room. The thermostat is about the size & shape of a deck of playing cards & includes a heavy duty stand to orient it in a perfect position on a desk. The color of the thermostat is white & clear. This neutral tone is very attractive & blends perfectly with any decor. Mysa Customer Support is very helpful & when I was unable to pair it with my new GE Portable Air Conditioner, they stayed in close contact & came up with a code which partially pairs the Thermostat with my GE Air Conditioner. Unfortunately, they were never able to pair the set point with my A/C unit. So I can read the room temperature across the room, I can turn the A/C On and Off & read other data, but I cannot adjust the A/C set point temp from Mysa. I have to use the remote that came with the GE Air Conditioner to adjust the desired temperature. The clear across-the-room temperature display is so convenient & useful, I elected to keep Mysa & use the GE remote to adjust the room temperature. CONCLUSION: The Mysa Smart Thermostat is a very cool product that adds programmability & flexibility to your A/C control. Just be prepared to deal with possible compatibility issues. Mysa Customer Service will provide you great support, should you encounter difficulties.

The unit has a nice hefty (heavy) quality feel maybe because it is an all in one unit. The WiFi is built into the device so no need for separate WiFi bridge. As long as your AC or split units has an LCD display type remote, I had no issues. I tried using it with 2 older units that had non lcd remotes, no luck whatsoever…very frustrating as I really wanted those to work. My newer ac units I have already have app based software that allow them to be remotely controlled via your phone and google and Alexa software. So the Mysa just replaces my newer units lcd remotes and their own software app. The Mysa keeps track of the room’s temperature and humidity, along with the target temperature you’ve set. As for humidity, Mysa does not use that info yet to maybe control comfort base not only on temperature but humidity, maybe with an update. The main app screen shows all of this, with mode- and fan-setting buttons clearly to the right of the set temperature, and up and down arrows to change the current temperature. Great replacement for your remotes along with the app but limited functionality as it can only control one unit or device so costly for just one unit.

Got this for my Mitsubishi mini split. The installation was a bit tricky, I tried several times to connect Mitsubishi Electric since that is what is on my ac and it kept crashing the app. I finally tried just Mitsubishi and it went perfectly. On setup you need to connect to your wifi, but it won't automatically search for available networks, you need to manually type it in which is a pain. Other then these issues installation went smooth. The provided USB power cord was a bit short at around 6' so I had to purchase a longer one. This remote adds a HUGE feature that was missing, the ability to schedule the ac like a regular thermostat. This is a feature I always wanted. I don't know if there is a limit to how many but I have several for each day and its working great. Each day of the week is individually programable. I have it set to turn off at night, on in the morning and have different temperatures depending on the time. Its been working well so far. You can manually overide from the control panel until your next setpoint then it will resume your programing. Its cool that you can look on your smart phone to see what the temperature and humidity is while you're away and can turn it on to get ready for your arrival at home. The major features of control are there: on/off, temperature, fan speed. It is recommended that you only use this and put away the original remote since it may get out of sync but this does create some issues as some features are missing. You can't control the horizontal sweeping oscillation, the vertical has only two positions and no sweep. There is no turbo mode to quickly cool down. overall a pretty good thermostat I hope they can update some features

The Mysa - Smart Thermostat for AC is a nifty device. I found it easy to set up and it works with the popular cloud services (Google, Amazon, etc.) for handsfree audible controls. The unit comes with everything you need to get going. I love the included stand/mount that allows you place the control somewhere convenient in your room where it is visible and easily accessible rather than having to wall mount it (not that wall mounting is a bad thing). It's critical that you check your AC unit to ensure compatibility and that all necessary prerequisites are supported otherwise there may be some issues with functionality. Just check your AC manufacturers guide for details. The unit itself is built well. The bezel is sturdy, the front panel illuminates vibrantly and is easy to read. I use google home with the Mysa and it's intuitive to control. No cumbersome commands to memorize. In addition, the Mysa thermostat has some pretty cool features, like scheduling temperature settings for specific times of day, or based on your proximity to your home using location services. This Mysa Smart Thermostat for AC and Mini-Splits is a handy device to have in your home or office. Makes managing the temperature much simpler. I highly recommend it.

I have begin to set up and create my smart home and this was the next addition. I looked at a few brands but I like how sleek this one looked and it didn't disappoint right out of the box. Again, this kind of stuff is not my wheelhouse so I had to wait to get it installed. Once installed it synced up to my Google home seamlessly. I can manage it from my phone with the app from the manufacturer or through my Google home app. It may be a simple feat. Just changing the temperature before you come home but it helps sometimes and it definitely saves on your power bill. I have noticed a 38% decrease. Whenever I leave the house, set the temperature high and then set it to comfortable on the way back home. So not only sleeking pretty, but my installer said he found it simple. So maybe somebody who's a little more savvy will have. Better luck than I did and you don't have to hire someone. The box says it sinks with other smart homes as well including Alexa. So if you're looking for beautiful design to go with your existing or starting a smart home, pick up this thermostat.

Awesome for people with unconventional situations! I have a sun room where we keep a portable AC unit. We plan on upgrading to a mini split one day. That sun room no longer needs a physical remote as this replaces it. We have it integrated with HomeKit and seems to work well. Our biggest complaints are related to the lack of function from HomeKit and not of the unit itself. HomeKit at this stage doesn't recognize it as a thermostat in our app, instead it recognizes it as a generic accessory and because of that doesn't have full functionality. I reached out to Apple and the support has been great, they believe the issue is Apple's HomeKit and have since created a ticket to look at what can be done. Understand that this plugs into your standard outlet in your home and doesn't wire into an existing thermostat (doesn't control that way). Pros: -easy to use interface -good looking -fun to setup Cons: -HomeKit integration is a miss at this time (could change with time) -requires an electrical outlet to be pretty close to the device and limits placement

    Clean minimalist smart thermostat

Right out of the box, I really liked the minimalist look of the Mysa smart thermostat. It accomplishes all it needs to do with just some LED lights. Most of the heavy lifting can be done via the app so this worked for me. Of note, you should really make sure that your AC is compatible with this device. There is a list on the company's website. Regardless of the reported compatibility, there does seem to be issues with setup even with compatible units as I am sure multiple reviews have mentioned. Fortunately, my unit had initial struggles, but eventually was able to get connected. In the box, you will find the Mysa thermostat, a micro USB cable, the power adapter, the stand, and velcro strips. I was a bit disappointed with the use of micro USB as opposed to USB-C but it works fine so I won't make a big fuss. Now, the reason why a stand is included is that you don't have to wall mount the Mysa! They do include the velcro adhesives in case you do. I personally liked the stand and placing the Mysa on a counter. Given that the unit isn't too heavy, you do have to hold it in place while tapping on the screen but otherwise, I actually thought it added a nice aesthetic touch to my office. The design is very sleek and minimalist. It's got buttons on the sides to control modes and fan speed. It was very simple for me. It may require multiple clicks to get to the mode/fan speed you want but I really thought it was simple to operate. Otherwise, the app controls most everything so this does not need to be the case. Pairing is supposed to be straightforward with compatible units. You connect the Mysa to your phone and wifi. You point your AC remote at the Mysa and press the power button and you should be good to go. I had a couple hiccups with this for some reason despite it being compatible. Eventually it did work. This does seem to be a problem that multiple users are having and some just have not been able to connect. Once I did connect, it was nothing but a smooth ride. It does the thing that you expect smart thermostats to do. You can set schedules, turn on/off remotely, etc. It is compatible with the big smart assistants. The app could be a bit more user-friendly but all the functions you need are there. It was quick and snappy and I did not have major issues otherwise. Once I set the schedule, I honestly didn't have to think too hard about it other than the fact that my office was now at a perfect temperature without me having to think about it. One thing to note, the two dots in the front above the Mysa logo are light and proximity sensors but they are currently inactive. Mysa is working software updates so that eventually it can control brightness based on ambient light and automatic sleep/wake when you approach the device. That is something to look forward to. All in all, a very solid smart thermostat to basically use your mini-split like you would a central AC system and adding smart functionality.

    Mixed Feelings

Excited to get started I browsed through some of the already posted reviews and was immediately worried as there were several that listed serious concerns. My Fujitsu heat pump is almost 10 years old - yikes! So, here goes..... Out of the box the unit has a very sturdy feel in the hand and once powered, looks very modern without standing out. I was a little disappointed that it doesn't have an internal power source and needs to be plugged in with the included USB cable. I had pictured mounting it on the wall but alas, the nearest outlet is way outside the reach of the included cable. The kit does include Command Strips to do just that and in certain situations doing so would be a good option. This being the case I was pleased to find out two things. First, the unit comes with a very nice stand allowing it to be placed on a convenient horizontal surface. Second, once set up the IR transmitter is strong enough to operate my heat pump from anywhere in the room - so happiness abounds. Setup was straight forward. Joining it to my home network was straight forward and was accomplished without a hitch. I did have some doubts during the "IR remote learning step." I lost count of the number of times I had to repeat the first step where you aim your remote into the top of the unit and press "Power." The app would indicate the signal was received but when I moved to the next screen to make some selections it would just start me over again. That being said I was finally able to move past that step and confirm that the device could turn on, off, adjust fan speed and function all from my phone - YAY! Once that was done I was able to add it to my Google Home environment with just a few more clicks like I would any other device. Although I don't change my heat pump settings often this is very handy for a device that I thought would forever be tied to a 19th century remote. I think I will really enjoy the convenience as well as the ability to know from where ever I am the status of my heat pump.

MYSA - SMART THERMOSTAT FOR AC AND MINI-SPLITS - WHITE MODEL:AC.1.0.01.NA-US WELL MADE – GREAT SUPPORT – NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MY AC UNIT OVERALL The MYSA - SMART THERMOSTAT was easy to set up and install. The app and everything worked exactly as expected. Unfortunately, after a few rounds with tech support (which was great by the way), they determined that they did not have a set of codes that worked with my AC unit. Before selecting the remote I ran the compatibility checker on the MYSA website and it said it was compatible, but they admit it is not fool-proof. So my advice would be to call them directly with your exact model number in hand before you purchase, or at least make sure you can easily return it if needed. This works sort of like an old school universal remote where you have to enter some numeric code that corresponds to your device so it knows what signals to send to your cooling device. Right off the bat they said they don’t have a code for my device, but gave me a handful of codes to try that “might” work. I’m only taking 1 point off the review for “not yet” supporting my device (which was a 2022 AC unit). I can’t imagine how many possible combinations of devices there are out there and to expect MYSA or anyone else to have them all seems unlikely. My hope is that they will eventually add my unit and I’ll be back in business. Rest assured, if there were technical glitches or similar issues I would remove more points from the review. I recommend the product (if it works with your AC) and the Company for their support, I would encourage you to check first with them directly if you have any doubts.

First, I attempted to set this up with a Portable Black and Decker Air Conditioner with Heat function and found that B+D products (at least this one) are not supported at this time. They are always updating it so at some point that could change which is awesome that they do keep it updated. So I decided to purchase a small remote controlled window AC unit (Midea brand) and was able to get this to work with it no problem. What you lose though, the Midea has a smart comfort feature in which the remote is also a sensor for the room so it doesn't just sense the temperature near the remote. For whatever reason Mysa does not seem to work with that feature and when you change temps on the Mysa it forces the Air Conditioner LED display to show temps in Celsius and not Fahrenheit and there's no way to change it. In short, I wish I'd just popped the extra $40 on the AC that has Wifi Built-in as it seems to me that it would work just the same and possibly better. Granted, if you lost your remote, this would be a decent replacement as it does work and has a nice stand that lets you sit it on furniture or wall mount it. Setting it up is really easy and this is where I think Mysa is good as it is based on the App and makes setting it up a breeze. The only thing to beware is that unlike what the website says it's not 'always compatible' just because your AC unit has a remote that displays temperature - as my B+D unit is not currently compatible. In terms of the product itself, it's good and has the capacity to be updated so they can add more units and hopefully update things like the C vs F temp reading. However, getting this with the intent of having it sense and run the AC based on the temp at it's location, I am not seeing that result and would be disappointed with it. I do love that it gives you the ability to control it with Google Home which makes it awesome to use and the reason why I'd give it any recommendation. Beyond that I wouldn't recommend it unless you are replacing a remote and just want remote that sits or mounts on a wall because that's all it really ends up being.

    A Must-Have for Mini-Split Users

Smart thermostats are one of the first upgrades I recommend to family and friends when talking about my burgeoning smart home -- I'm on my second central AC-connected smart thermostat and I really can't imagine going back to a regular "dumb" thermostat. I found myself in a bit of a conundrum when I moved to my new apartment, however: while the main rooms of my unit are heated/cooled by a traditional central HVAC unit, my office space, being a later addition, has its own wall-mounted mini-split heat/AC unit. Mini-splits are heralded by many as the best way to condition spaces, as they're silent, ultra-efficient and allow you to heat and cool rooms individually. While these things are true, I quickly discovered some frustrating mini-split downsides: controlling the unit with just a remote (and a very complex one at that) means constant adjustments, no smart functionality and (IMHO) less comfort than the rest of my apartment. If you're looking at this device, I'm guessing you may be experiencing the same annoyances. I've spent the last few months combing through reviews of the sparse mini-split smart thermostat market, and have had a hard time finding a simple, affordable device that wasn't plagued by major issues and that worked with all three major smart home platforms. I knew the Mysa brand from their well-reviewed smart thermostat for electric baseboard heaters, so when they released a similar unit for ACs and mini-splits, I jumped at the chance to give it a try. Being a Canadian design, the Mysa strikes me as straightforward and unassuming, with an appreciated simplicity. The packaging and the unit itself are thoughtfully designed and approachable -- I mean, just look at that smiling logo! The all-white color scheme is clean and modern, coordinating well with the white light switches I have it mounted to, and also the white mini-split wall unit itself. One thing to note: because the Mysa is replacing your unit's remote and is not directly wired to it, you'll need to both power the unit (via USB) and make sure it has clear sightlines to the IR receiver on your AC or mini-split. Mysa includes a well-made USB power cable and wall adapter in the box, as well as Command velcro strips for wall-mounting or a weighted stand for tabletop use. I chose to mount the Mysa near the main light switch in my office, which is on a wall perpendicular to my mini-split unit. I was nervous the IR signals wouldn't reach the mini-split in this location but was immediately proven wrong: the large IR-blasting window on the back (and small window on the front) of the Mysa bounce IR signals in all directions and I've had zero communication issues, even when standing directly in front of the Mysa and sort of between it and the mini-split. Well done! Pro tip: if you're looking to mount your Mysa next to a light switch like I did, and you're comfortable with a bit of electrical work, I recommend investigating whether you can replace your light switch with a switch/outlet combo to power your Mysa. Combined with a bit of raceway I was able to hide the USB power cable and connect it to the nearby switch/outlet combo I installed, making for a cleaner look than a power cord running down the wall and along the baseboard to the nearest outlet. Even including the entirely-optional wiring above, installation and setup of the Mysa was quick and easy. After downloading the app and pairing the Mysa to it and my wifi network (I found the HomeKit paring option through the Mysa app to be the easiest), I simply pointed my mini-split's factory remote at the Mysa's IR window and was pleased to find it immediately recognized my mini-split and downloaded the appropriate commands. After this and a rather long firmware update the Mysa was stuck to the wall and ready to go. With the Mysa now paired to my Friedrich "Floating Air" mini-split (itself a rebranded Daikin or LG model, apparently) I have full control of my unit from either the Mysa device or the Mysa app, and nearly full control from Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Using the Mysa involves pressing the "mode" button on the side to turn on the unit and choose AC, heat, dehumidify etc., changing the fan speed with the nearby "fan" button (I choose to just leave mine on auto) and then using the touch-sensitive front display to adjust the temperature. I like that the Mysa waits a half-second after you're done making your selections to send the command to your unit, allowing you the opportunity to cycle through all modes or bump the setpoint up or down before your unit responds. Using the Mysa app gives you not only full control of your unit, but full control of the Mysa itself, including setting schedules, home and away defaults and allowing geofencing triggers. This last option is perhaps the one I most appreciate, as it prevents me from leaving the mini-split running all day if I forget to turn it off before I leave my apartment. In my testing it's been very reliable in turning my mini-split off. Similar to other smart thermostats you can set up home and away routines that change the setpoint temperature and have them triggered by your phone's location, a set schedule or both. Since I only use the mini-split when I'm actually working in my office I've set the Mysa to turn the unit off when I leave but not to follow any particular schedule. Control from the "big three" smart platforms is straightforward and reliable as well, whether you use your voice or the respective app. I like that in HomeKit, for example, you can change the mode, setpoint and fan speed, should you like to mess with it. Whether you use one of these platforms or the Mysa app itself it's truly a godsend to be able to control your mini-split from anywhere you have an internet connection. Moreover, using the device itself is dead-simple once you've turned it on -- this was a must-have for me because my office is also my guest room, and nearly everyone that's stayed here has struggled to figure out the mini-split remote. Now all I have to do is point them to the Mysa and its impossible-to-miss temp up/down buttons and they know what to do immediately. Nice! The other marquee feature of the Mysa, and one that I think might be the most revolutionary for mini-split users, is Mysa's "Climate+" function, currently in beta. As anyone who's used a mini-split or window/wall AC can attest, they're notoriously bad at accurately sensing the room temperature and responding to it accordingly, most likely because their temperature sensors are located inside the unit itself -- in the case of most mini-splits, this means high up on the wall and nowhere near the actual living "zone" us humans are in. In my experience this means always having the remote nearby to adjust the temp up or down a few degrees in search of a balanced, comfortable room. With Climate+, Mysa takes over this control, using its built-in temperature sensor to gain a more accurate reading and then, using computer smarts, automatically adjusting your AC unit to get you closer to the target temperature and -- this is the key -- stay at that temperature without any intervention on your part. Basically, Climate+ tries to replicate the traditional central HVAC/thermostat setup most folks are used to: you pick a temperature and your system cycles on and off to maintain that temperature. With Climate+ active, selecting a setpoint on the Mysa resulted in it sending that command to my mini-split and then, after some time had passed, adjusting the setpoint on the mini-split up or down based on the temperature on the Mysa itself, rather than the temp reading at the mini-split. It's not perfect (granted, it's still in beta) and I'm guessing the more I use the Mysa, the smarter Climate+ will be, but by golly it might be my favorite feature. Being able to pick a comfortable setpoint once and let the Mysa handle any adjustments needed in the background is a godsend. Overall I am extremely pleased with the Mysa and in my week or so of use have gotten so much value out of it I can't imagine going back to manual remote control of my mini-split. The Mysa is simple, attractive and effective. It' easy for non-tech nerds to use the physical device, while those of us that like to tinker have full control with the app. My quibbles are minor, namely that the Mysa app itself is a hair harder to use than I expected, with home/away routines sort of buried in the "my home" settings rather than the thermostat settings. Thankfully, the Mysa support pages are extensive and very useful. My two other quibbles are that the Mysa device includes both a light level sensor and a proximity sensor on the front, which would enable automatic display brightness adjustments and automatic display sleep/wake when you walk up to the device... but neither sensor is currently active. Their inclusion clearly means Mysa is working on this and I look forward to them (hopefully) enabling this functionality soon. My last point worth noting is that when the Mysa commands my mini-split, the temperature displayed on the AC unit changes to Celsius, rather than the Fahrenheit I have the Mysa set to use. It's a weird little quirk that Mysa's helpful support staff assured me does not affect functionality. Hey, it might be a conspiracy to get us USA residents to finally adopt the metric system... so I'm looking at it as a fun way to try and learn what common degrees F are in degrees C. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this Mysa, and can't recommend it enough. It not only gives you smart thermostat control, it approximates the behavior of the central HVAC systems many of us are used to, and for that alone it's worth its weight in gold.
