I'll start by saying I never thought that the Nano Leaf products would be something I'd be interested in. Perhaps, one day, they'd be something my kids could have in their room for a decoration, but the really colorful ones never looked like something for a main area of a family home.
When I saw the wood grain version, my mind instantly changed. I came up with a few places I'd like to put one and ended up deciding to put it near the family room desk. Since work from home is our life now, that area needed some sprucing and warmth so the home office area could better fit with the rest of the home.
These look really nice when they’re on or off. When they’re on, they can look understated, overstated and everywhere in between. I’ve played around a lot in the App and made some neat custom scenes. I’m constantly surprised by its behavior, but in a good way. They almost sparkle and dance in the “music” modes and when you speak or listen to music, it reacts. I’m not sure exactly what or how it reacts, but the lights make it almost move when there are sounds in the music mode. What really surprised me was when I touched it. It not only lights up on the one you touch, but based on how much you touch it, it even reacts on other “leafs”.
The only downside as a decoration is the cord. It’s such a shame there isn’t a way to power these another way. I ended up being able to hide it behind a monitor by powering from one of the “branches”. It’s hard to explain, but the nice thing about the power cord is that it can attach at any exterior side of any of the hexagons. One of the upper hexagons happened to be near where the top of our monitor was, so it’s tucked nicely behind that.
The final thing I’ll mention is what a pleasure this was to setup. It came with some design ideas and we picked the one we like and assembled and tested on the ground so we could ensure that’s how we wanted it. Then it was a matter of mounting the first one. Once that’s mounted, it can freely spin so you can ensure level. I accomplished that by simply hanging another beneath it and it kind of auto-leveled itself perfectly, then I mounted the second. After that it was a breeze to assemble, get the controller and power mounted, and get it fired up. If you mess up, finish with the contact tape, then you can simply pop them off the mount and re-set them on the mount. Once that was all set, it was pretty straightforward to get into my smart home app. One hiccup I should mention is that my HomeKit app kept wanting to scan the android code and then error out. I just covered the android code with my thumb and it captured the HomeKit code properly.

These are nice to put in your office, that's where I have them. But they can go into any area of your home. These are REALLY easy to install, and setup. You don't NEED the app, but it really opens up all the benefits of these panels. The only thing is price, it's a little high for just something that is for show. Overall, if you are buying these...you know what you are getting them for.
They feel solid to the touch, and look amazing once installed. The adhesive on the back holds strong, and will stick to any surface. If you do want to put screws in, you can..but you won't need to. They do not weigh much.
The look and feel of them will be a nice addition you decide to grab them.

Bright Lights and Pretty Wood

This kit was a lot of fun to set up and play with and is a great decorative piece when not on, thanks to the paneled wood look. It’s a cooler wood tone when off so keep that in mind when considering your other furniture. This won’t create the stark sharp contrasting colors of the other Nanoleaf products, but is perfect for those who want a warmer, homey touch to their space. Setup is not too complicated. It can be hard to design a proof of concept without sticking them to the wall. You can’t assemble them on the floor and hold them up to see how it will look. This made me hesitant to try too many pattern combinations for fear of the adhesive wearing down. The software comes with an overwhelming amount of preset options and I struggled to learn how to create custom patterns even with a small tutorial guide built in. I haven’t yet figured out if the effect I want is possible. There is a discovery tab where you can see creations others have made, but they are mostly geared for the full RGB setup, not the cool/warm toned wood look panels. The software converts it to the closest match, so some of the effects still come through. Overall, they look sleek and the LEDs look great. The power plug is big, but the cord is braided nicely to prevent wear. There is a physical remote, but I don’t see using that much since it has to be physically attached to the panels to work.

Nanoleaf elements, but make it classy

I have a previous version set of the hexagon elements, and I've never considered putting them somewhere in my home that was a more formal public space. The thought just never occurred to me. The older version is simple white plastic and looks like what you would expect. When they're turned on is when the magic actually happens. These new hexagons are a welcome change to that. The wood-look panels are still translucent enough to let the light shine through but are SO much more pleasant to look at when they're not activated. The app and the myriad of ways that these lights can be controlled, touch, buttons, sound, etc are all covered in depth elsewhere and are worth looking into. Personally, I feel that Nanoleaf has the most versatile control scheme on the market, at the moment, for non-DIY smart lights. If I have any complaints it's that Nanoleaf hasn't come out with a television backlight yet to sync these with. I might try mixing and matching the old versions with the new ones to see how large of an installation I can get away with in my primary living space, rather than having them as interesting backlights in my office. I highly recommend these smart lights!

Cool Smart Home Addition

I was intrigued by the idea of smart lighting that also could double as a decoration itself and I'd heard some positive things about the Nanoleaf panels.
The starter kit that I picked up included:
- 7 Nanoleaf panels
- 9 Panel connectors
- 1 Lighting control module
- 1 braided power cord with power brick
First off - I would recommend you have a place in mind for where these are going to go before you buy them. I would also recommend that you be sure that the lighter wood color of the panels works with your decor. Our house uses mostly dark wood / traditional look, so the panels would look a bit out of sync with their modern, and lighter style.
Setting up the panels was pretty straightforward once I figured out where to put them. There's a generous length to the power cord, but the power brick on the end is utterly massive, so if you can't run the cable behind furniture that's flush against the wall. I ended up not having that issue where I ended up installing them, but YMMV.
The power cord and control board can be attached to any panel in the setup, and the kit itself comes with a sheet with design ideas to get you started.
I was able to get them setup in both HomeKit and in the Nanoleaf app. There's more options in the Nanoleaf app than in HomeKit, but all the scenes were accessible in the Apple Home app - and I have some automation running different scenes at different times a day.
Waterfall and Clouds are by far, my 2 favorite scenes. There's also some scenes that will "dance" along with music - but it's not beat-synced or anything, just a fun lighting effect. They also can do basic, one-tone lighting for times like reading or when you want a warmer, more mellow light.
They're a cool option to add to a smart home, but they only work with a 2.4 GHz WiFi signal - so your iPhone / Android will need to be on that network during initial setup if you have your 5GHz and 2.4 network SSIDs split.
My main issue with the panels is their design, which I assume is the trade off to get the lighting to come through. I don't know if the effects would've looked the same if the panels were a darker shade of wood instead of the teak look they have.
All in all, I like them and I think they're a cool way to liven up a room.

This has to be one of the coolest lighting products I've ever had the opportunity to use. I have seen products like this previously, but always thought it would be a pain to set up and never really gave them much attention. However, this product by Nanoleaf is just plain awesome.
Firstly, with this product, it is a starter kit. So, you get 7 panels that have a "natural" wood "look", which can be set up in any way with the panel connectors on a wall. I imagine you could probably set this up on a ceiling, but you would need an extension cord, or an outlet nearby. If you would want more panels for a larger design, you can actually get more from Nanoleaf or any retail websites selling this product, but for a small area or an average room, the 7 panels are enough. That's subjective though. With this product, you don't necessarily need the Nanoleaf app, as you can set it up, plug it in and use, but the application does enhance the use of the product, in my opinion, as you can quickly adjust the brightness, the different color and lighting settings, and you can even set up a lighting "playlist" if you like. If you also decide to set-up panels in different rooms, the app will help you manage those panels, too. Of course, you'll need another starter kit for that.
Subjectively speaking from my experience, I like the user friendliness of the app and feel that it is very simple to use. And personally, I love the different lighting settings as I have these set up in my bedroom and I can use it for reading at night, or just to "set the mood." If there is one thing about this product that is difficult, it is choosing what kind of design you want to go with! Of course, that's not a bad thing.
Overall, I love this product. I can definitely see myself getting more panels in the future for other rooms in my home.

The NanoLeaf decor product is a really nice alternative to run of the mill pictures that most consumers hang on their walls. When you complete the arrangement of the NanoLeaf panels, the product tends to give your room that "extra warmth" with its customizable lighting options controlled through the app. I prefer soft lighting in certain rooms of my home and this product was an awesome addition. The product installs with the aide of an adhesive and requires absolutely no hard drilling nor messy wiring.
What is really cool is that the product is touch sensitive as well as music reactive. The lighting will change according to the beat and tempo of music. App download is not mandatory however the app will open the product up to all its available features.
So far I love this product. It works well, looks great and is easy to install and put together, It is a very welcome edition to my home and I thoroughly enjoy it.

Nature Theme & Stylish

I've never owned nano leaf light technology. So my review is based on my first experience. I downloaded the app to help decide what design works best for me. I decided on the design "journey." I place the Nanoleaf lights in my bedroom on top of my bedroom.
The assembly was really simple all you have to do is click the connectors, install the menu, and plug in the adapter cable and you are all set. The app feature downloadable themes. I thought it was great! I downloaded a nightclub theme, and Netflix and chill. You can also dim the lights with the app. Unfortunately, the only colors that the Nanoleaf displayed were only: white, orange, and yellow. The Nanoleaf does have a nature or Element theme. You can tell by the wood panel lights. It did give me a nature theme feel. The aesthetics were nice and simple. The Nanoleaf Elements definitely give a nature theme to my room now. I like the lights but wished it had more colors in the app that is the reason I am giving it 4 stars. I recommend for any living room or bedroom.

These nanoleaf panels are striking in appearance. When you open the box you are greeted with some very solid and pretty wood veneer styled hexagons.
I decided to install them in the workout/yoga room to add that soft tone of Art Deco and lighting.
Setting them up took all of 20 minutes thanks to the simple adhesive tape on back. Once everything was hooked up installed I was able to create a beautiful glowing scene in the room.
It truly does elevate the ambience of the room and was relaxing.
I highly recommend this product as it hits all marks in quality, craftsmanship and options for lighting.

I had a lot of trouble with the app connecting to the panels. It constantly disconnected, but often I kept it on one setting so that didn't annoy me too much. However, after about 8 months the panels stopped working. They flickered a little, and then just stopped working. So for $250 I have a dead product, which is very frustrating.

If/ when the Nanoleaf elements actually work, they look pretty cool. However, those moments are rare. The tech on these are awful. They require a specific Wi-Fi speed, drop the Wi-Fi connection constantly and freeze every 5 minutes. Wait for version 25.0 to come out before purchasing.
