This really is a great game, much better than NBA 2k15 in my opinion. The gameplay feels more real, and the defense definitely plays a part in that. You can no longer shoot three pointers with three men on you, you really do have to look for that open shot. Spike Lee's potion in my career is a little dramatic but once you're first season is over, you're met with gameplay similar to NBA 2k15, only this time you get to choose what you want to do on your off days. Overall, I really enjoy playing the game and my friends do as well.

Best NBA 2K Game Yet

Let me make this clear: this is definitively the best NBA 2K game released to date, and that is saying something.
They improved the game in seemingly every regard, and I will break down a few changes in each of the modes below.
In My-Team, once you collect enough cards to unlock the creation cards, you can design your own arena, court, logo and jerseys. There is also much better rewards, as the reward for beating regular Domination mode is now an Amethyst Jason Kidd from his Phoenix Suns days. There is also a Historic Domination mode now as well as Gauntlet mode, which make earning cards that much easier. The biggest upside to this mode for me is they are releasing even more classic players in this mode, like a Prime Grant Hill, a younger Shane Battier and even Manute Bol. This mode should get better and better as times goes on.
For MyLeague, you can now take even more classic players into the mode. From Yao Ming to a young Vince Carter and Kobe Bryant, you can play with them in your own franchise mode, where you can also relocate your team and design your own court, logo and jerseys. I've had so much fun just designing my franchise that I haven't even played that many games yet, it's so addicting and rewarding to see your creations play-out in games.
For MyCareer, there is now a rich story line created by Spike Lee that was extremely enjoyable. After you're done with that, your MyCareer basically reboots and you begin your second season by choosing what team you want to play for. In this second season you can now manage your connections and choose what to do on off-days which will earn your rewards like MyTeam cards or VC.
I haven't even mentioned the gameplay yet, which is as great as ever. It does bother me that it now seems like you do better in every instance if you just attack the paint constantly without shooting many 3's, but that is my only complain as far as that goes.
Overall, this game is as great as ever with the framework in place to continue to improve year-after-year. This year's game was the shot in the arm the franchise needed and I am excited to see where it goes next.

More than just a roster update

Another year, another 2k. To put it simply, 2k16 actually offers a lot more than just a roster update, which sports games are notorious for. I am glad to see 2k16 provide a fresh and much needed new coat of paint to an already established series.
For one, they have improved greatly on controls. What happens on the court is a result of your doing and not the game's faults, as control is more important than ever this year. You can choose where your big sets the screen (left or right side) and have them either roll to the basket or fade to get open for a jumpshot. Playing defense is much more responsive this year as well. It feels tight and the length of your player's wingspan can make even the best offensive players struggle if you play your cards right. Overall, you have more control than ever and you'll be spending a lot more time playing instead of watching canned animations happen like in previous years.
In MyGM, they've added the ability to relocate a team, pre-existing or user created, design your own uniforms, team logos and even stadium. I also love that you can train your team and player specifically throughout the season. I love having complete control of my team's success because it makes it that much more rewarding.
MyCareer this year is a hit and miss though. What I liked was they they've taken a different narrative approach by bringing in Spike Lee to direct it. I like how you can now start out in high school and play a couple games through to college and then get drafted into the NBA. It really adds to the immersion of living the basketball life. Unfortunately though that is where it soon falls flat. I was a bit disappointed that Lee's approach was constricted to making you sound, act, and represent a certain demographic. Having your player sound and act nothing like you makes absolutely no sense, breaks the immersion, and is pointless in a game mode that's suppose be about you. It would've been nice to choose where you came from and have your voice and personality reflect that lifestyle. As for the cutscenes and dialogue, they are definitely improved over previous years as all the characters and players are voiced now, but the storyline still sounds forced.
Other points i'd like to make are that they they've added a half-time and post-game show with the inclusion of Kenny "The Jet" Smith. I love this addition as it adds to the authenticity of what we see in a real basketball game. Their witty banter and analysis of your highlights are always fun to watch.
In the end, if you love basketball then get this game as it provides a lot of welcome additions. Compared to previous 2k's, this year's version seems more well-rounded and will definitely occupy more of your time. Despite some mishaps like the somewhat disappointing MyCareer, it is alleviated with having better control of your players, deep MyGM customization of your team, and is more authentic than ever with presentation that rivals that of a real life game.

I honestly am not a basketball fan but NBA 2K always brings me back to the sport. I have owned every 2K since 2K5 with the great Ben Wallace on the cover. Over the course of that time I have been very satisifed and also very disappointed in the 2K series.
The series, since 2K11 has always been head shoulders above any other multi console sports game . However, in recent years it seemed as if 2K began spinning its wheels. 2K16 is a great step forward in terms of realism and gameplay.
Gone are the days of Carlos Boozer dunking from the free throw line over the entire 13 man active roster. Instead, 2K16 provided a fun game that stays true to the action you see in the NBA.
One criticism I have is the ridiculousness that Spike Lee provided in the MyPlayer Mode. After getting past the ridiculous story line, which I will admit is very interesting and well done, just not my cup of tea, the career mode has more spark than ever with the options players have.
The new MyGm (where I spend 90% if my time) gives you the feel of a real GM. Best franchise mode ever created.
Overall 2K is great step forward for a franchise that had been spinning its wheels, albeit beautiful Parelli with rims wheels.

So comparing this game to the previous one, this game is a lil bit more realistic than the previous one. For example shooting has changed drastically, because the old game it was so easy to shoot but on this one it's a lil tougher. Overall I would reccommend this game to anyone who's into basketball. I think it's pretty awesome how my career game mode starts you off as a hs player and transition to a college one and on to the nba. It's basically you the player experiencing nba through the game.

I've mainly just played MyPlayer so this will be a review around that aspect of the game. My overall impression of the "Livin' the Dream" aspect was that it was mediocre. If you're trying to just play the game, the story definitely gets in the way and it is something that needs to be omitted next year. You're basically watching a movie with a few games sprinkled in-between. After you're done with that, though, MyPlayer is much more enjoyable. The extra tasks add a little more variety to just playing games. So far I can't figure out a way to sim games, which could be a problem especially if playing multiple 82 game seasons. AI has been improved especially with play running. There are a few glitches but none that have been game-breaking. Overall, it is much more enjoyable than last year (so far).
I will add that MyGM allows more than one player to play, which I am so thankful for as now my wife and I can play together.

Best 2k yet. Graphics and realism are killer. It definitely takes a little time to get used to the new and improved defenses, but that alone makes it wayyy more realistic than 2k15. I felt that 2k15 had a lot more gimmicks and tricks that you could use to trick the defense and score every time. Now, it finally feels real and you might actually have to call for a screen to get free and drain a high percentage shot...go figure. If you dance around too much with the ball, expect to get stripped and embarassed, kindof like real life. MyPlayer mode is engrossing and fun, albeit a little heavy on the setup movies.

I cant honestly recommend this game to anyone unless you just want slightly updated rosters, which is fine. The graphic's color palette is a little bit broader so the graphics are a little brighter and very sharp. That is the only good part though unfortunately. I grew up playing NBA Live, from 94 until it went to junk and i switched to 2K 08, from that year on i have been a die hard 2k fan and have invested an insane amount of time and money into literally every single mode all the way from Franchise to MyTeam & MyPlayer, the last 2 being my personal favorites the last 3 seasons. The entire 2k staff has become complacent and almost arrogant, acknowledging several major, game breaking flaws yet continuing to release the game and collect our money, then have the audacity to tell you "tough ____" when you contact support. From the 2 major issues(the terrible online performance & the biggest flaw ive found in any sports game to date, their lack of defensive AI function which leaves you playing 1 vs 5 on defense as the computer blows by a couple statues in the paint) all the way to the minor issues they continue to ignore, such as passing the ball to a teammate who will then run out of bounds while the ball is in air so you get a turnover, or the issue where your team will foul a player about 75% of the time you pull off a clean block in the low post in turn wiping the stat and sending them to the line. Please believe me, even at its worst it is STILL better than NBA Live, lol..but I, along with thousands and thousands of other long time fans are beyond fed up with 2k. I can assure you i will never pre-order a game from them ever again, instead i will wait to rent it so i don't get stuck with a $60 half-functional game. If i were ignoring the flaws i mentioned(impossible to do) i would say the game is a 9/10 overall, but with the online problems AGAIN and the defensive AI issues id give it a 6/10. Obviously the online can be fixed, as well as several other issues i mentioned yet we've been saying that for the last 24 months, am i right? Verdict = rent the game guys, give it at least 5-6hrs of play before you dive in right now.

NBA 2k series is one of those sports games I don't mind buying every year. Just like any sports games this game is an updated roster and fix of bugs. NBA 2k16 is the same but with more. The game play is right on the spot making it more realistic gameplay as possible. The AI is more improved. The animation is much better. From shooting, passing, to defending. NBA 2k16 is a much better game than its previous game.
With the game mode My Career brings more fun into the game and more life into it. The Introduction with Spike Lee's being a little disappointment. Not being able to choose a nickname, etc makes it awkward story. Once you pass the "livin the dream" Mycareer plays just like any other NBA game. You in a team start off with some game time and work you way up to being a hall a famer. New to this mode is able to choose what to do on off days. For example going to practice to work on your game or going out and spending time with friends, players, sponsors, etc. This will affect how teams, players, fan, react to you. My career mode might need some changes but it's on the right direction to being better.
My GM mode one of my favorite modes in NBA 2k games. Just like last years games you get to choose a team and take them to seasons to becoming on of the best GMs. Just like last years interacting with your staff and players affects chemistry between you and the players, staff, owner, other GM, etc. Only downside I seen is players complaining about lack of practice intensity or to high. Making promise to a player about it and some how not working will drop its trust on you with them and leading to asking for a trade. My GM is a most play for people who love to build a strong team and going to championships.
Overall NBA 2k16 does not disappoint. If you played this series before i suggest playing this game. If you want to try a new NBA game since the other NBA game failed this is the game to play. Will be the most realistic game play and graphics NBA game you every play.

The annual release of 2K is something that anyone who enjoys watching and playing basketball, should purchase. The differences between this year's iteration focuses more on the defensive nature, making it easier than ever to adjust defenses on the fly. The improvements to my-Park also make it a lot more fun than 15. All in all, this is a staple for basketball fans!

2k has made some more reasonable improvements to the animations and players personalities. The graphics remain top notch, and it seems they've put more time into the MyPlayer experience. With Spike Lee directing it, it's more of a movie than an actual road to the top grind. You don't start off in the rookie game as in years past and quickly progress from high school (yes! high school) to college and onto the NBA. The only downside of the pre-NBA journey is that it's pretty much already determined that you'll be a top NBA prospect and they're no struggle. They did include more decision making off the court in this edition as well as a practice mode to hone your skills in between games. You also get your own practice gym and trophy room to decorate.
In terms of the gameplay, they did add new animations and collisions when driving, but some of those same annoyances from past years still linger around (for example randomly losing the ball during spins and players playing out of character). The crossovers are still a bit sluggish, but the new post system allows for a much quicker response to go from posting up to facing up without hesitation. They also have a 3 button passing system which will make the elite passers even better. There's now a lob button, bounce pass button, and the standard pass button. Alley oops are now just a double tap to the lob button.
They've brought back MyTeam which is about as good as expected and they took a stab at a Pro Am mode. Pro Am mode seems a bit under-developed. It's just a 5 on 5 run with other MyPlayers. The Park is back and of course dynasty mode.
Overall I think they game is solid, still the king of basketball, and has made some improvements. I gave it a 4/5 because although it's still the best, it's best year was the 2013 dream team year. There was so much packed into that game, and they haven't been close since. Make no doubt about it 2k is still where you'll find the best simulation of basketball!

2K Sports has been on top of the basketball world for several seasons now, but with Live nipping on its heels, it was time to step their game up. And they have delivered. The presentation is top-notch. The gameplay is fluid and excellent. The detail is out of this world. Jerseys sway with movement, scuffs can be seen on the floor, players' tattoos are accurate. There isn't a whole lot of bad to be said about this game. The game can get buggy at times, but not enough to hinder the overall rating of this game. What game does not have its share of glitches.
The MyCareer this year is odd, with the added direction of Spike Lee. You take the role of an up-and-coming star rising from high school, to college (10 NCAA schools make their appearance), to struggles with fame and fortune in the NBA. After the second season begins, the mode lets you take full reigns of your career. You really cannot go wrong with this game.

Hi, While this NBA license really helps captivate the sport there are some short comings that one will have to grind your teeth on if you're into this simply for the online element. Virtual Currency is still a huge focus point for users to earn/obtain or buy. Usually the latter here applies as gaining VC is short in lumps and in other online modes VC is simply not offered. The creators of this game still have a lot to work on when it comes to the online portion and the structure. Good luck to you when contacting 2K support. Yikes.
As for the essence of the game this is where your money is well spent. The look feel and play of your players is the best it's been. There are other modes that may fancy you but be aware that there are some strange and unsolved holes found within portions of this title. While I won't educate on this, Google & Youtube should have you covered.
Regardless I was very happy in BestBuy's online shipment. Received my copy exactly on Sept 25th.with no hassle. I would without a doubt recommend others to jump in, but do some research on what's great, good or bad before opening your wallet beyond the org $60 price tag.

Love the game, but (my story mode) is really not your story. You really can't make your own choices, only when it comes to going to another team and declining sponsors.
