Customers are impressed with the Botvac D7's cleaning performance, navigation, and suction power, frequently praising its ease of use and mapping capabilities. However, some users experienced issues with the brush, Wi-Fi connectivity, and dustbin size, while concerns were also raised regarding the vacuum's long-term reliability and cost. The app received positive feedback for its user-friendliness. Despite some drawbacks, many appreciate the scheduling feature and the overall effectiveness of the dirt pickup.

This is my first foray into robot vacuums, and I'm glad to see how far they have come. The old robo-vacuums were clumsy, slow, and just cleaned OK. The Botvac D7 on the other hand has been wonderful. I haven't felt the need to go back over the carpet with my regular vacuum, and the straight lines look great. I've been using the D7 for a few weeks now, and I have yet to have any issues. My house has 2 small children and 2 short hair cats, and the D7 keeps up just fine.
The initial setup was pretty straightforward. The hardest part was locating the dock in a space with 3 feet of clearance all around. I ended up putting it in my guest bedroom, while not ideal it has worked out pretty well. I am using an older Android Tablet to control the unit since that is always in the house (and I have a...Windows Phone :[ still). The app and the robot connected straight away (follow the quick start guide, and you will be fine) - I named mine Bender.
You first have to run an initial clean of the house in order to build your map. I picked up everything and set my house up like it would be on cleaning days (this is recommended). The D7 bumped and twirled around my house for about 45 minutes before it finished. My house is a split level, so the cleaning area for upstairs is only about 450 sq ft. Also, I cautiously sat at the top of my stairs while the D7 was finding its way around - it's supposed to detect dropoffs and stairs, but I wanted to be there just in case. In the end it was fine, no Thelma and Louise launching off a cliff. After it was done I had it run another clean in order to setup the No-Go lines. This time it only took 35 minutes to run around.
In these first 2 runs I only came across 2 issues. The first was the D7 got "stuck" in its initial run near the top of the stairs. It knew the edge was there, but for whatever reason it determined that it couldn't safely turn around right there after it bumped into the banister molding at the top of the steps. It called for help, so I picked it up and reset it about a foot away. The second issue arose during the second cleaning. The D7 went under a bed that is about a 1/4" too low. It managed to squeeze under but it couldn't make it out. I lifted the bed up slightly, and the D7 made its escape.
After the second run I setup my No-Go lines (screenshot attached). I lined out a few areas, and cordoned off the 2 spots where the D7 got stuck. I put a line even with the edges of the banister molding (about 2 inches from the edge of the steps), and around the bed it got stuck under. After that, no issues. The No-Go lines work really well, and are much better than the magnetic strips. I also No-Go'd my bathroom, which was more convenient than remembering to close the doors.
I have yet to come close to the overall runtime of this unit (I think its 2 hrs in ECO), and 1 cleaning just about fills up the dustbin (darn cats). I'm thinking about just letting it run in Turbo mode, but I haven't got around to toggling that setting. Noise wise, the D7 isn't too bad (note: in ECO mode). It's much quieter than my stick vacuum, so it doesn't bother me if I run it while at home. The app is pretty easy to navigate, and I haven't had any issues there. I am planning on picking up a Google Home device mostly to use the voice control for the D7 - it will feel nice to order around a little robot.
I have fiddled around with the manual control setting. It's kind of cool to drive the D7 around, but the controls are just a little hard to master and input lag makes it difficult to be really accurate. Its a cool feature though, and my kids love it.
Other thoughts:
There are a few things I wish the D7 did. The No-Go lines are a game changer feature, but I wish they could be expanded upon. It would be nice to have a room sectioning feature, like marking an area as the living room, kitchen, etc. Then you could do a spot clean of just that room, and it would return to the dock. This would be nice for anyone that sees one room get noticeably messier than other rooms. Also, since I live in a split level home I have 2 floors that make up 1500 sq ft. Right now I can only have the upstairs mapped, and I have to do an unmapped spot clean for downstairs. It would be great if the D7 could store multiple floor plans for situations like this. I know the bot needs a homebase for a floorplan to work, so I would be open to buying an additional second home type dock for this feature. Right now the cost of robovacs are just too much for the average person to consider 1 for every floor.
For now this is a great little robot, that is perfectly happy to take orders and clean up after my family. I don't live in fear that it will one day rise up and destroy civilization.

We have had this vacuum for over a month now and it is scheduled to clean our house 3 times per month. We were coming from a Roomba that did not impress at all. The Roomba’s logic was awful. It would hit certain areas 6 times and others were left untouched. It didn’t have enough battery life to clean the entire house and we would find it in a back bedroom dead. The suction on it was also pretty poor compared to this Neato. It was the dumbest smart vacuum I’d ever seen.
Now on to the Neato. The app is great and easy to use. I was able to generate a map of my house and set my boundaries for the vacuum very quickly. It’s on a schedule now to clean the main common areas of the house 3 days a week at one time and the master bedroom 2 days a week at another time. We have it clean the common areas at 11pm when we are sleeping. With our door closed we can’t even hear it and it can function in complete darkness due to its laser navigation instead of cameras. The suction is amazing. I cant believe that much dust and dirt gets in our carpenters and on the floors in just a matter of days. If it can’t finish the entire schedule on one charge it returns to the base to charge and then completes the schedule. It’s every bit the smart device you would expect. I have 0 complaints about this vacuum. It is incredibly smart and the navigation is amazing.

First experience with a robovac...

This is my first experience with a robovac and didn't know what to really expect from it... I like the idea and concept but how will it execute versus my expectation...
From my research... this is definitely a higher price point versus many other robovacs out there, maybe it's the app connected experience and controls? I do, however, like the ability to control it from the app. While setup is a breeze with the app, being able to see the results are very satisfying. I had the robovac run a few times to learn my house layout, while there were many times it got stuck on the standing fan, once it completed a house scan, I blocked the area where the fan is out and the is problem solved. I'm not sure how often cleaning is recommended, but I have a 2 times a week schedule and clean the brush, empty the canister out weekly. I am impressed at how much it actually picks up. I don't know whether to be happy it picked up so much or disappointed that it did. LOL.
Overall, I'm not sure if this is for the average joe looking for a robovac since the price point is pretty high compared to others, but I do like the ability to control more of the bot than just letting it do it's thang with no control. Maybe this is for you too. Maybe not. But I don't regret getting this. Thanks.

My husband came home with this and I thought he was crazy (we had had the original Roomba). He is a tech guy and had done a lot of research. We have 3 large long haired cats - with clumps of fur at times and litter that gets tracked around. Our house sparkles! It has never been this clean - I'm very impressed. We were on vacation and could set it to clean just the area where litter gets tracked the most, then before we got home could run the whole area. I love that it can be programmed to just do certain areas and that it can be controlled remotely. The only glitch we have found is that upon re-docking (yes, it goes back home by itself to recharge) it sometimes nudges the docking station out of position a little and after several times can't go home to recharge. We have a combination of floors: hardwood, carpet, and scatter rugs and it performs well on them all!

Amazing robot vacuum! We have a 4 year old Botvac D3 which is still kicking (moved to our bedroom) - got the D7 and it is awesome - cleans our whole kitchen, laundry room, family and dining room, guest bathroom, hallway -- it's great -- takes about 80 to 90 mins and keeps the same charge whole time -- we had pets so we have to empty the bin daily, but we did the same with the D3 -- we love the Neato brand over iRobot Roombas since the Neato has the squared front, and gets edges and corners FAR SUPERIOR to the Roomba (although I saw the most very high end Roomba that just recently came out now has the squared front end, so they must be catching on!)

The Neato Botvac D7 Connected is the absolute archetype robotic vacuum, and if you’re considering other robot vacuums at this price point, you should definitely put the D7 Connected at the top of your list.
The D7 Connected does what a robot vacuum should. It keeps a stable Wi-Fi connection, it accurately maps out the layout of your house, it allows you to schedule its cleaning sessions, and it also allows you to set its cleaning profile to “Eco” or “Turbo”. On top of that, you can enable “gentle navigation” which will make the D7 navigate a bit slower, but will prevent the Botvac from bumping into surfaces and leaving scuffs on more sensitive areas—a feature not found on many other robot vacuums. Additionally, it does have modes for you to do clean manually via remote-control (although, this can be somewhat impractical; I’d recommend just having a normal vacuum for other situations), and spot cleaning (up to 13ft x 13ft area).
I have 1 other laser-navigation robot vacuum which I am absolutely frustrated with. The Neato Botvac D7 is so reliable that it makes the other robot vacuum seem like a child’s toy in comparison. It consistently performs great, is able to send proper push notifications to my phone when it finishes the job or when it has issues, and unlike the other 2 robot vacuums I own, it doesn’t fail to return to its dock. The Neato has yet to get stuck in between chair legs. And unlike other robot vacuums I own, it doesn’t struggle with traversing floor mats and such. I’ve had other robot vacs succeed in going on top of a thick floor mat, but fail to leave it because it would think that it was encountering a ledge of some sort. The Neato has yet to encounter this type of issue.
Another thing I really like about the D7 is its D-shaped body. Because of this, it is able to clean up against walls quite a bit better compared to other robot vacs, and because of its low profile, it’s able to go under furniture that other robot vacs have not been able to. While it’s certainly not perfect and may not perform to everyone’s expectations, I can say that the Neato D7 Connected exceeds the other robot vacuums I own in both performance, reliability, and ease of use.

Tops the I7 Roomba

I initially bought the Roomba I7 robot vacuum after reading several of the Best Buy reviews. The interface was great but the I7 didn’t clean dog hair that well on our low pile carpet. That and the I7 would run into objects more frequently than other robot vacuums I’ve used.
I returned the unit and got the D7. What a big difference in cleaning. The front brush is much bigger, suction power is stronger and the dust bin is larger. The I7 does have a cleaning base that automatically empties however; that is a feature I wish Neato would incorporate into its design.
The main pros of the unit are laser mapping so you can use the unit in low light environments, software that allows for gentle navigation (this minimizes the unit from bumping into delicate objects) and its cleaning power. If you read then online nonbiased reviews you will see that the D7 almost always beats out the I7.
Highly recommend but as with any robot vacuum the extended service plan is a must.

Not sure if I'm a mediocre gift-giver or what, but this appears to be one of the best gifts my wife has ever received. We have darker-colored hard wood floors throughout our downstairs that can show dirt easily and requires a lot of effort to keep clean...this Botvac eliminates the regular chore of sweeping/vacuuming the floors and does the job relatively quickly and with less noise than I was expecting. It also navigates the house and obstacles well. The only few complaints that come to mind are:
a) it does have to return to the docking station to charge itself once before it fully finishes the job (better battery life would've been nice), b) the dirt bin could be bigger
c) the first unit was defective, but the return process was painless and efficient...the replacement unit works fine thus far.

Before I pulled the trigger on this purchase, I’d done a good bit of research. However, you just don’t really know until you bring it home.
It’s too early to tell about the longer-term quality of the hardware. My initial impression is that it seems pretty solid. I haven’t had any hardware issues yet.
Software is a moving target, but the current version needs some work. It’s functional but not very intuitive. I was eventually able to get the initial setup completed but it was not a seamless experience. The initial floor-plan that the Robovac created seemed to complete without issue but couldn’t be used after that. It kept coming up with an error. Finally had to delete it and have it create a new one. The second one is working fine so far. It’s odd that you can manually start the Robo vac and it will honor the no-go lines, but apparently I won’t if you do a scheduled cleaning.
The noise level of the device, battery runtime, and it’s ability to function as a vacuum were fairly consistent with the specs and met my expectations, having read a fair number of reviews.
For the first couple of days our cat followed it around eyeing it suspiciously. Now the cat mostly ignores it. Your cat mileage will almost certainly vary.
As an autonomous vacuum, it is pretty impressive. The vacuum has cleaned the whole house five times and hasn’t gotten itself into serious trouble. Before I set some no-go lines, it struggled a few time, almost getting stuck, but was always able to extricate itself from it's predicament. With the no-go lines set, it just does it’s thing for about an hour 20 and then parks itself back at the charger. I’m surprised, and a little sheepish, at how much dust and dirt it keeps finding.

I owned a room a 960 and 980 which were great but did some damage to my rugs. I chose the D7 for it’s “no-go lines” and superb navigation system. The D7 uses a laser to map out the house compared to the camera Roomba uses. It outperformed my Roombas is every aspect!! The ability to draw No go lines on the app is amazing, you can draw as many as you like and the vacuum automatically avoids those areas. The Roomba’s Virtual wall barriers were hit and miss, not to mention that each virtual barriers cost $40/unit. The D7 cleans well, the app is very easy to use, it has a 2 hour charge, the design is much better (it gets edges really well), it’s quieter, works with Alexa, the bin is bigger, the brushes are bigger which means it cleans more area in a shorter time, you can create different zone, and has spot cleaning abilities.

This is one of the best purchases I made in 2018! I did tons of research on robotic vacuums and I actually bought a Samsung robotic at the end of 2017 and returned it. I was looking for a robot vacuum that had strong suction, cleaned in a uniform pattern and could had scheduled cleaning options. The Samsung was powerful but the edge cleaning feature would malfunction every cleaning cycle and NEVER completed a cycle. My faith in robot vacuums were temporarily dashed. Until I started researching the Neato, I was not going to try a robotic vacuum again. Finally I decided on this model of Neato because of the battery length (I.e. runtime per cycle), the scheduled cycles and great iOS app for the vacuum. It works great from hardwood to carpet and back. Highly recommend!

This Neato model is mostly great. However, there a few issues that need to be addressed in future models. It chokes on Legos. In fact it chokes on socks. It chokes on cords. This little vacuum will clean your whole house flawlessly if you actually keep stuff off the floor. If you're like us and have little kids who manage to hide Legos in nooks and crannies, you will have to extricate them from the brush. On the plus side, cleaning the brush is extremely easy but not obvious. Once you know, it's a breeze beating our Roomba. One area where it also bests Roomba? It's not afraid of your dark carpet. It won't avoid black carpet thinking it's about to fall into the abyss. The house mapping really is Neato even if it's of dubious practical value unless you're setting up barriers which we haven't tried to use. The dust bin is adequate and easy to empty. When the vacuum gets stuck or encountered a problem, the phone app sends a notification. The only mildly annoying issue we've had is we had to resync the vacuum a few times. I suspect that we need to make the vacuum IP address permanent, and I suspect that this will be beyond many people who try to use it. I definitely recommend this vacuum. It cleans well, especially if you take the effort to remove obstacles from its way. It's just not able to clear the things it runs over automatically, and that keeps it from greatness.

I've had a Roomba 780 for years and loved it. Recently moved into a split level and bought this Neato D7 for the upstairs. I liked the D7 at first. The suction was good, I liked how it navigated around the room and the app was nice. I originally liked how the side brush was a bit slower and didn't just kick dirt around like my Roomba. After about 5 months the D7 side brush quit spinning. Turns out the brush is belt driven and its pretty common to fail. It's still under warranty and I requested Neato for a new belt but they required the whole unit to be sent back. The warranty would be voided if opened. If you have the cash, go with the Roomba i7. Roombas are just realiable and very easy to work on.

There is no better robot vaccum in the market. Not even the $1000 ones. This D7 is the king and is easy to use. Once the unit goes in any area a map is created. Then you can open the app and place borders where you don't want Bonito to go. Easy and effective cleaner. Very little maintenance needed. Keep a can of air to blow it out 2 times a years and blow dustbin sensors. Other wise empty when full. Enough space for multiple rooms. Worth every dollar and set it and forget it.

Neato makes a map of your house by going around randomly the first time you run it, then figures out a route to follow and cleans systematically on subsequent runs. It is easy to empty its dust bin. You control it with a phone app, and it communicates with your phone, telling you what it's doing and asking for help if it gets stuck. When it's done it heads straight for its dock and snuggles into it cutely. It cleans quite thoroughly and my wife and I are pleased with it.
Its main problem is that it tends to get itself into places that it can't get out of, under or between furniture. I have used the map to block off several areas where it has gotten stuck. It is also quite noisy, and we prefer to run it when we are not at home.

Very impressed by this. Super easy to set up. Went with this model because of its run time on a charge, our main floor is about 2,800 square feet so I wanted one that could handle vacuuming that without running out of battery. It seems to do that without any issues! We also have a golden retriever with longer fur, this has no issues with that. Since it runs more frequently than you would normally vacuum the smaller dust bin on the robots is not an issue. I would recommend doing a good vacuum with a full size vac before the first run since these are really intended to maintain a clean floor by frequent vacuuming versus weekly or bi-weekly like with a normal vacuum. You do have to remove the pet hair from the brush, but you have to do that with any vacuum, and this one is incredibly easy to remove the brush. Unlike our Dysons (which still are pretty easy to clean the brush on). It is amazing watching this thing make sense of your house and learn the floor plan. It also gets under higher furniture and goes around legs of tables and chairs shockingly well. This thing is thorough. It also goes under the bed which is freeking sweet. It NEVER gets stuck either. This one has legs that will elevate it and get it out of tight spaces. Its a serious robot on a mission. The zone cleaning (and scheduling) is also a key feature. Being able to have this hit the kitchen and mudroom daily, and then carpeted areas every few days is awesome. Highly recommend it. We are probably going to put googly eyes on it and give it a name, but we're still figuring out its personality.

This vacuum is easy to set up & get started and does a really, really good job of sucking up dirt and pet fur as well as the bigger bits of crumbs. Works as well on carpet as hardwood. This thing is expensive but worth it if you have dogs. Our whole first floor is vinyl plank. Our dogs shed, this thing is great at picking up not only dog hair but dried up mud and dirt/dander. It charges itself and when it needs a charge and doesn’t have enough battery it charges itself enough to finish the job and picks up where it left off. The smart phone connection is terrible we had to a of issues so we actually returned it and got a roomba 960. Boy did I appreciate Neato after that. Roomba flicks bigger things around like crumbs (we have 3 kids) and it did dismal at even getting all the dog hair. Once I realized I don’t need my smart phone to always connect to it (just hit one button) it does it’s job the same only diff is that I push the button on the vacuum and not my phone. The bin is much bigger than roomba and so easy to pop it out, from the top. Battery life is great and it’s quicker and cleans better than roomba. Never thought I’d bought one but we use it everyday and it is great. Worth it, and yes you’ll still need a reg vacuum for other stuff. Do yourself a favor forget dyson, shark works just as good for fraction of the price, I’ve had two dysons and the shark is just as good.
