Added it to the end of a 10/100 cable to get it to back side of house and just outside... installed it as a access point rather than the default router/access point... the install was complex enough to have to have a pdf copy of the manual, you can find that on the company website, and to reread the process a couple times... had read other reviews and got the impression the install could be a pain if one did not read the instruction very carefully... got it done by the wee hours of the morning... The Range is very good on the 3 access points I added... I still have the original access point up for a total of 4, each labeled a little different... I get less streaming issues that the original point had on the back side of the house... now I can be 20 feet beyond my target location... useful for gaming on tablets in the early shade outside.

    Terrible Interface

This device has the absolute worse way to log into a network device I ever experienced. (I'm a former network engineer so I have seen a lot of them.) It really wants you to go out to the Internet to Netgear's site set up and account and log in from there! (Go outside my network perimeter to log in locally to my device??? Nuts!) Then if (actually when, not if) that doesn't work, you are supposed to be able to log in locally. But if and ONLY IF the device can't reach the Internet. Of course when it was connected to my router, it saw the Internet. So it refused to let me in. Then even unplugged from my network it refused the local login. Yes, I emptied cache and all the other tricks. Finally after much swearing and trying every trick I could think of, I got in the device and got it up and running. What a terrible experience! I am currently ready to just dump the Netgear firmware and maybe use DD-WRT or something else on it. Come on guys. At least let me use the USB port to configure the device locally! Once I got it up and running, it has worked just fine. But every time I want to get in and tweak the settings, it's a royal pain. No more Netgear devices for me until they get rid of this terrible login process.

Item is very easy to setup and use right out of the box. The signal strength and speed are better than expected.

The router itself is great but Netgear's new interface to setup is no good!

I used this at the opposite end of my home from my internet access point. I love that it has extra ports as well as wi-fi

No doubt due to user error, but I was unable to switch it into 'access point' mode... You know, like it says on the box. Apparently, older units had this set as default, now my fault :(

    Waste of money

I bought two of these from another store, but I want to share my experience here as well. I couldn't access the settings page on either of these access points. I called customer support and wasted an hour with the technician telling me to try 'routerlogin.net' then 'routerlogin.com' then the IP address of the device over and over again to try logging in. I would put in the credentials and get ERR_Empty_Response. The WIFI and ethernet were both working, I could visit websites, but I could not access the settings page for the devices. Also, Netgear now needs you to set up an account to access these settings as well? Never had that as a requirement for any of my other devices. If you google WAC124 issues you'll find numerous pages with people reporting issues and zero help from netgear. I returned both devices and definitely won't waste money on netgear going forward.
