Nighthawk 5G Review

In general, the Netgear Nighthawk MR5100 is a great hotspot. Yet, it is in my opinion as of now, it is not much better than the MR1000 model. Mainly because there are so few areas for 5G and the mobile plan you have must have a 5G mobile hotspot plan in order to get 5G fully on the device. If not then you can only get 5Ge which is fast. I clocked the 5Ge as high as 200mb/s but it is nowhere near the speed when I put this on a 5G plan and got speeds up to 800+ mb/s sometimes over a thousand. This is only good if you are in a 5G place with a 5G mobile hotspot plan. Beyond that, you get the same 200+mb/s with the MR1000 model. I have both models and the only major difference is this has a touch screen and the other doesn't you have to use the buttons. But LET ME BE CLEAR THIS IS A MORE SUPERIOR HOTSPOT THEN THE OTHER BRANDS THEY HAVE FOR ATT. You just have to make a personal choice between this and the MR1000 model which is 5Ge. Also, another good or bad thing is the data plans they offer for this. The good thing is you can do anything on this hotspot as far as speed and things go the bad part is the plans are small. Like 40 to 50 GB (I use much more than that just on my phone watching YouTube videos). And with the high speed, you can blow through it so fast your head will spin and the overage charges will almost send you to the poor house unless you are rich, or well off. If you looking to the future then I would say get this one if you just looking for a cheaper one that is good but can never use 5G access in the future but still has great speeds then the cheaper MR1000 is the way to go

I bought this router because I have a mobile component to my office and need reliable internet wherever I happen to be. It was also the only one that was available in the store that day, so I sucked it up and paid the price. No regrets. Setup was a breeze, battery life is excellent, and the connection is rock solid, even for the occasional video meeting. I consider this one of the best business decisions I have made.

Bought this from BestBuy and activated at an AT&T store. DO NOT get service added to your phone plan... it's way cheaper (and you get more data) if you start a new (no contract) plan.
Device is very fast and super easy to connect.
Best feature is the QR code access to join. I use for work and clients just scan the QR and are set. No searching for networks and entering codes. Love this thing.
Worth stating is the salesperson was confused why I'd want this as you can (generally) hotspot from your phone. Reason is - you arent tying up your phone or draining it's data. For this reason it's awesome for work and in the car with kids/ipads.

Works great! Bought at best buy because AT&T doesnt offer this with the prepaid plan, when purchased at the AT&T store you get a monthly plan capped at 50Gigs, prepaid plan caps at 100Gigs per month for less money. Its replaced the terrible hotel internet ive been dealing with. Would definitely recommend this if you travel like I do and want a consistent internet connection while traveling. Have not actually tried to use in motion though. Might not work well to use while driving on the highway. I have used it for FPS gaming with minimal to no lag.

This hotspot is pricey but speeds are great. Setup is easy. Has its own wifi but also has network output to connect to mesh router which is great option for second home that doesn't have wired internet access. Battery life is good but also can remove battery and leave plugged in if desired.

I like this device. It doesn’t take up much space and has a good signal. Since I work on my computer 8-9 hours a day I have to depend on this device when seems to be efficient so far. I am disappointed the 5G speed isn’t as fast as I had hoped but I am able to work in my apartment without interruptions. This was a huge excitement when I found this for my work from home solution since this apartment has shared internet I cannot use due to secure connection issues for work. The battery life isn’t the best, it is drained by early afternoon but no big deal I can just plug it in. This is going to be a huge game changer for me so I can travel, not missing a secure connection. This device fits securely in my laptop bag and ready to travel. I am definitely pleased with this purchase

02/22/2021, We wanted to upgrade our 4g LTE HOTSPOT, although 5g is still rolling out in 2021, when we travel, we need high speed broadband to upload project files, images, videos. We chose single line plan, $75 40gb, which is sufficient for our needs. We travel each month for about two to three weeks. Once plan is absorbed, you will be throttled. We choose hotels that do have high speed TV, and utilize their cable to our nighthawk, to save data. Option if your get your hands on a 5g nighthawk.UNLOCKED, you will have the option to any carrier. Hotspots are the new travel accessory for vlogging, video upload, live feeds. Greate for family connections on the go. Will set you back some if your purchase outright ( we did it for the AT&T hotspot plan ) in areas, with no open 5g map, you still get a decent 4g LTE coverage.

9/6/21 after having the AT&T Wi-Fi Hotspot now for a month, I can say it works as stated and consider it a top of the line product. I checked my area prior to purchasing, and I am definitely getting great 5G reception. It's faster & more consistent than my previous hotspot device (from a different service that was no longer going to support that device come Jan 2022). I read a lot before making the final choice to switch and haven't looked back since. I recommend this device although the price is steep.

Easy to use! Great performance with 56Mb down and 3Mb up. Was a life saver while camping and even at home when internet went out. Bit pricey but still worth it as 5G mobile router.

Best Rural Area Alternative / Device

I have to say this is hands down the best 5G Mobile Hotspot device you can get. I live in a rural area without any internet providers except the satellite option which is bad for gaming. And this Hotspot device with FirstNet AT&T network has helped me get gaming and both my business work done. I would recommend this to any person that is dealing with the rural area situation like i was.

The Nighthawk Hotspot has been good for what I expected. It will sometimes need to be turned off and turned back on to regain a good signal. Make sure it is in an area with no interference and you will need to walk around your house for the best signal. When it has good signal strength it is great…can be frustrating sometimes. Living in a rural area this was the best option at the time since there was no cable, dsl or decent satellite service. It does a pretty good job. I would give it 5 stars if it did not need to be reset, but it is a hotspot.

Bought this to use since AT&T won't sell it directly without buying a very low data, expensive postpaid plan. I got the 100GB prepaid hotspot plan from AT&T which you can only get by going to a store (go to a corporate store, the third party ones don't know anything about prepaid hotspots or don't get commission for them so they don't care). They sold me the older model Nighthawk LTE hotspot which I didn't want, I wanted access to the 5G network, and they wouldn't sell it with the plan so I sold it and bought this outright from BestBuy. Updated my AT&T prepaid account with the new device IEMI and SIM card and rebooted and it works flawlessly. I've driven around with it (use it as a travel/car hotspot) and 5G access works great, speeds are as expected for AT&T.

I have tried all the hotspots out there, but this one is the best that I have found. You get two networks 4LTE and 5G, you can switch between both networks. You can get messages about your account, usage, and information. The battery last for a considerable period, however I use this in a Motorhome so it’s plugged up most of the time. The price is the only negative thing about it. I paid $530 for it, more than twice the price of all the others but I am sure the price will come down.

It is better than the previous Netgear model. I get better signal and better speed. In some area, I get over 200 Mbs (At&t 4G LTE, no 5G where I live). Previous Nighthawk model, I was never pass 100 Mbs in this same network.

Upgraded from Nighthawk 4g LTE model and so far pleased with it. No issues and data speeds seem a bit better than the older model indoors at home. The large battery and screen are good sized. Please confirm 5G coverage before ordering with carrier.

5G is alright but I’m not convinced for its benefits. However, this products reigns supreme for 4G LTE internet support. Whether you use the local wifi or connect via Ethernet to another router, you get too speeds and super low latency (depending on your data connection). I upgraded from the Netgear Nighthawk Mobile Hotspot Router MR1100. I keep it as a back up but the 5G hotspot pro is definitely worth the price since I’m future proofed for later use when technology improves. I recommend getting one too, if you are patient for good things are to come.
