The only high-speed internet provider I can use is Comcast xFinity and their SB3 & newest SB4 would not allow for a steady connection and would be offline more than online. Read the end to note if you have xFinity Home, which is Comcast’s security system. After 11 tech visits and 3 supervisors came by, countless call ins, I decided to purchase my own modem/router combo to see if I could resolve the inconsistency & it was resolved.
The associate at the local Best Buy suggested this one since I have so much connected with my home being smart and have several Nest Cameras streaming 24/7. Right when I changed out the modem settings with tech support via FB Messanger (as tech support closed at 8pm), my life changed. I now have constant high speed internet connection and it has not once went down in the couple weeks I have owned this brand and model. If I knew it would have resolved my issues since Jan 2019 and it’s June 2019 now, I would have made this purchase much sooner. Comcast employees can’t explain why “using my own modem and router is working but their devices wouldn’t. Not even the newest model on the market, the SB6).
I have Google Home Hub, Brother laser printer, 2 iPhone Max Xs phones, HD xFinity cable box, Samsung TV, 4 Nest Outdoor Cameras, smart defuser, smart doorbell camera, my xFinity Home alarm system, and much more connected at all times and nothing once since changing to this modem/router have had any issues. When I tell Google Hub to stream one of my cameras, it doesn’t have one delay and I can also have it streaming on my phone app and MacBook Pro all at the same time without gang flaws. With the rented devices, it would lag and have the time not work.
It’s literally night and day difference and I recommend this one to everyone. It has a high range which covers far corners of the home I live in which is 3200 total sq feet. Have great signal while outside and on patio far from where it is plugged in, it’s excellent.
Well worth the money spent to have decent internet access and Comcast xFinity has no reason on why, as I stated above, my personally owned modem will work while the two they offer did not, it is pitiful.
Also, saving the extra $15 per month will add up and eventually over time save me monthly rental fees. My neighbor which runs off the same cable line as the house was built in the 1890s and made into two units have their services and while mine was down, theirs remained up and online. They own their own modem and router which worked when mine wouldn’t. Same connection, different results. All cable lines were replaced, the converters changed out to new ones, the pole had MOCHA filters all changed out, they couldn’t resolve the issue whatsoever.
Note: the touchpad for xFinity Home (alarm system) doesn’t recognize this modem as a modem nor router). Home technicians had to come and place a “side car” gateway, which is plugged into the Ethernet port on back of this device to allow touchpad to utilize WiFi for smart functions and notifications while backup 3g still worked but had delays, the WiFi option didn’t recognize it. I even had a tech from India call center try to make the SB6 modem from xFinity act as a gateway and it would not work (I was given tech a temporary access codes to go into tech settings). It was free of charge for technician to place the “side car” which is basically a wireless router with hidden SSDI and password, all secure and unable to access in general for the touchpad to sync properly to WiFi settings. It’s some security protocol which I tried googling yet not able to resolve on my part.
**photo attached shows the “side car” needed and installed.**

Best router hands down for Gaming and Streaming

This is hands down the BEST router for gaming and streaming. I had a Motorola Surfboard and it always dropped Wi-Fi connections. I upgraded my internet to Xfinity Extream 150mbps down and I was not getting the speed. I got this router and it peeks at 190mbps most times. But please be aware that you MUST go through the router settings and check EVERY signal channel on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands for the BEST speed. Change the channel and do a speed test. Right each channel down with the speed and determine which channel outputs the best signal and max speed. Trust me and ALWAYS open your ports within the router for best PS4 and Xbox connections.

ROCKING LITTLE DEVICE, EH?

Blazing-fast speeds! This acts as an exceptional upgrade to my previous modem router by a long-shot. Plus this can feature up to four wired Ethernet connections! The setup is generally easy to figure out, one simply needs to install the Nighthawk app to their phone and it'll sort out the bugs independently. I faced a minor crisis while dealing with Comcast/Xfinity services in an attempt to add this device to their registry but with the Xfinity app installed, internet services can be easily switched over and the device can easily be updated appropriately. The overall processing period took me roughly half-an-hour to a full hour or so but after this, I was connected right away! Now I can stream 4k content I never could afford to before, thanks to the blazing-fast speeds at my disposal! Highly recommended for anyone who wants something ideal but not too ambitious for personal home computing, streaming and even online gaming. <3

We have RCN and was getting sick of paying a rental fee for their modem/router. Heard great things about the Nighthawk series from friends and decided to buy this when I noticed it on sale. Set up was a breeze -- simple and quick. The Nighthawk also offers all sorts of advanced set up options that are easily accessible for those who know what they are doing. My only worry was whether or not the internet connection would not be unreliable or too slow through the device, and after several months, we've had no problems staying connected and our internet speed is great. Highly recommend!!

It was fairly easy to set up, but I did have to call xfinity and give them the serial and model numbers. Other than that, it's nice and quick and a nice upgrade from our 11-year-old modem and router

Went from a modem and router setup to this combo and glad I did. Slim design lets it hide behind my tv, looks like it will fit when I wall mount as well. Easy setup. Gets awsome range though my 2 story house with the router on the main floor. Getting close to the speeds were paying for, even on wifi. Have smart tv, xbox wire connected and use wifi for phones, printer. All works great.

About 2 years ago the cable company told me to buy my own router (I choose from their list of compatibles), and they would stop charging me the $10 or $15/month for theirs. As my 4th or 5th Netgear modem or modem/router, I had no trouble hooking it up and connecting my Netgear extender to it.
Now, after months of recurring problems with my internet connection (despite technicians' visits), last Sunday my cable box did not light up after I re-booted it. I called, and after more than an hour of online trouble-shooting, they told me to bring in the cable box and get a new one. I did. After 2 more hour-long calls, it still didn't work. They sent a technician Wednesday. After a lot of troubleshooting, he told me that my old cable box had been a modem router, and I should never have used or even needed the Netgear modem, which was interfering with their cable equipment. He took back the cable box and approved my pick of the NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 WiFi Cable Modem Router. Now, this is plugged into the cable company cable, with none of their equipment, and my wifi works just fine. (I have no TV or phone, just internet wifi.)

I got this box after using Arris for a year. Arris was horrible, terrible customer service. I had been a netgear customer for years prior, but in a pinch, my 10 year old netgear modem router combo finally broke. So after getting arris, it broke after less than a year and getting no help from them, only people who are across seas. I went back to netgear and I am so so happy to be back with them. They are always helpful. The router works perfectly. It was slightly more expensive. But it works perfect. I work from home, I have 2 Xbox’s, we only stream - we don’t have cable so we use WiFi to watch tv , 3 firesticks, and we have several security cameras, we all have iPhones, so like 15-20 devices running all at once.

Before this modem we had given up hope on our internet. Our ping was none existent (usually 20 or less) and our download speed never went higher than 8 although we pay over $100 for 50 mbps download. So after a year of fighting with Shentel we decided to bite the bullet and purchase our own. Best decision ever. I have attached a pic of our current speeds and that is with 2 kids gaming on Fortnite plus our living room tv streaming. We don’t have cable so we do everything online and this modem has made that online experience Seamless! I absolutely recommend this modem to others. If your having connectivity issues it’s likely your modem and not your provider! Give it a try you won’t regret it!

I finally purchased the Netgear Nighthawk, I was very pleased from the beginning, set up was so simple and the router kept up the speed and also went thru thick walls. With one child in college doing must of the work on line and my older child, a web designer, never complaining of dropped WiFi it made my life a lot easier. I am a voice-over artist and need a modem with the right speed to upload audio files, I found it! I highly recommend it!

Has been in use since November 18, 2017 - about 45 days as of this writing.
Love this combination of modem and router. Am currently subscribed with cable internet at 60 Gig and experience no lag or delays - instantaneous bidirectional communication. (Actually was on a 20 gig plan with same results but took advantage of my Internet Provider's offer of 60 gig for 6 months at a reduced price so I temporarily switch to give it a try. At the end of the promotion I'll go back to 20 gig though.)
At first I was a little hesitant about having 'two devices in one'. But, after realizing that I would free up one 110 volt outlet by not having two separate devices to power, reduce the number of interface cables/wires and have the ability to keep only the modem on 24/7 (for direct connect to my PC) while turning on/off the wireless radio separately with a FRONT mounted on/off radio button/switch (thus increasing my personal security) made this a 'no brainer' for me! Coming from a tech background, I know that in the long run it is better to keep most devices that are frequently used powered up and turned on all the time even while not in use to prevent unnecessary warm up and cool down cycles relative to the circuit board and components. In effect then, this radio on/off button is simply enabling/disabling the radio transceiver while at the same time it is always in a 'warmed up' state thus reducing any chance of circuit board warping, moisture, condensation and cold solder joints etc. which ultimately lead to a products failure or shorter life span.
Additionally, having the extended warranty I felt all my bases would be covered.
The user interface includes the advanced Netgear version which is very comprehensive and user friendly.
The form factor is the traditional tower style so it is minimalistic while on my desk's shelves and is without a doubt of professional quality overall.
Because of its maximum speed rating of just under 1 gig I expect that now I am 'future proof' for many years.
I highly recommend this unit and would encourage anyone to purchase nothing less than this. :-).

I bought this router-modem for my new apartment. I had never set up my own internet/wifi before but the instructions included in the packaging were very easy to follow. Having the modem and router combined in one unit also makes set up a lot easier and faster. The internet provider I have is Xfinity and I have not had any issues with connection. I was able to set up this router completely by myself which saved me a lot of time as well as prevented me from having to spend $90 to get someone to help set it up. This product is well worth the money!

The Netgear Nighthawk dual band router/ modem is not only good looking, it's a performer. My house is a 3,200 sq. foot ranch and its been reliable throughout every corner of my home.
As far as connectivity it has all I'll ever need. There are 4 gigabit ethernet ports and a USB 2.0 port. The initial setup was fairly mundane and the Nighthawk comes with detailed instructions to accomplish this task.
It was a no brainer to cut the cord on my Comcast rental and move on up to a much better device which will save me money in the long run.
