Bought the Nighthawk AX4 along with the ARRIS - SURFboard 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem upon recommendations from some of best buy staff as I was looking for something to replace the provided modem/router combo from Spectrum. Was initially put off by the price... Together they're not cheap. I was going to go with a all-in-one model, but after doing my research, decided that individual pieces would be better.
I have to say... The speeds are amazing. Downloading updates on your phone? Don't blink or you'll miss them. Now the longest part is the install.
Gaming? I tested it out side by side with my brother. He's got a AT&T uverse modem and router. Where he was looking at 45 minutes to upwards of 2 hours for game downloads, I was able to download and install in under 20.
I can't comment on the range of the two, as I live in a crappy little apartment, but I automatically log in when pulling into the parking lot.
Yes, they are expensive. But as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for.
Do you need a setup that downloads your movies before you even decide what you're going to watch? Maybe not, but it's nice.
Do you need a gaming connection that provides a flawless, constant connection that lets you die that much quicker? Maybe.
With 5 devices all connected to the setup, I was running over 200 mbps download, which is/was just numbers to me, but I know that when I was running the Spectrum setup, I wasn't getting above 50 mbps.
My verdict... Get this! It works with spectrum, and is one of their approved devices.
Also provides an app that allows you to monitor your network and adjust users and usage, it has quickly become worth the money.

I was impressed with this router. New Wifi 6 standard with an easy to use interface to configure it. Liked that you have endless entries for forwarding ports compared to my previous Linksys router which only had a dozen entries for forwarding ports. I also was easily able to setup my dynamic IP to update www.dyn.com. Router has strong signal to my wifi devices and downloads speeds are incredible. Very Pleased with this product and would recommend it.

Super easy Nighthawk App set up. So far router is way better than expected. Super fast had 4 simultaneous 4k feeds going with zero buffering. Best bang for the buck!

First impression after unboxing. It looks very nice and sleek reminds me of a sports car large grill near the back for ventilation. Has mounting holes on the bottom however it doesn’t include screws in the box. Included in the box router, power adapter, flat Ethernet cable and instructions. Setup is made simple through the nighthawk app automatically searches and installs the latest firmware during setup. The app makes changing network name and password fast and simple. Advanced settings can be changed my accessing routerlogin.net Has many features. I have had this router setup a few ways in the past weeks just a stand alone router connected straight to the modem also in AP mode connected to another router. I had to manually set the WiFi channels so the two routers didn’t cause interference with each other. I also disabled 2.4G on the AX4 and ran only 5G and disable 5G on a different router and dedicated two separate routers for each band. Netgear really made it easy to access and change all these settings. The speed and range on this router is very impressive. I compared 3 routers one supplied by my internet service provider a Netgear R7450 and the AX4. I used professional WiFi testing equipment from JDSU to test the signal levels the AX4 comes out on top on the 5G on every location in my home even outside through stone walls. The 2.4 the R7450 has the AX4 beat by 2dBm not very much. Anyone looking to get this router is probably interested more in speed and would be using the 5G network anyways. This router is fast I just wish I had a faster internet connection to see its full potential. I currently have a 400 download 20 upload plan from my service provider. Running a speed test I get a 473/23 pretty consistent throughout my home. But everyone must understand basic WiFi limitations every home will be different and router placement is the key factor. Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, large TVs will dramatically impact your WiFi signal. So try and find the most central location in your home for the best results. I have not encountered any problems with this router during setup until now about a month has passed. not even a hiccup I am able to stream 4K with Netflix with no problems to many devices to even list have all been connected to this router and it handles it like a champ. I would highly recommend this router especially if you have fiber in you area and plan on getting gig service. Easy to setup great performance and reliability and it just looks awesome!

Although very stylish the nighthawk AX-4 lacks the ability The motility to transmit to lower levels from above lan. It is so much slower than the Nighthawk 9000 R10 when it come to cycling emails to be deleted. It is not moving as fast as advertise. But overall good device.

Have had this router for about 4 days. As someone else mentioned, the set up isn't flawless. At first, it seems as if you have easily set up the router using the app, but low and behold, you need to reboot here, configure there. After a bit of confusing time, I managed to get the wifi active and working. Now the fun part. With the wifi working, it started to drop, and the speed no where near matched my older TP Link. I have 100 MPS with Cox, and was getting between 10- 25 MPS with this router. After calling COX to confirm my modem was active and not loosing connection, I determined it must be the router . Long story short, I had to login to the Netgear Admin login on a PC and change the IP from static to dynamic. I think the router was renewing the IP and causing the connection loss. Also, I enabled QOS. Odd that it's not set by default. Overall, now that the router is stable, the coverage is crazy good, much better than my TP Link, and even Google WiFi. I can be out at my sidewalk and get WiFi great. The speed is pretty solid. I'm averaging about 120mps. Again, I only have a 100 MPS with Cox. Would I recommend the router? Nah, there's probably better, easier routers for less. The router physically feels cheap, and low budget. The Nighthawk app sucks, 80% of the time it can't connect. Also, the app doesn't let you do advance features so you have to use the desktop.

So far I've only had this router for a week but I will update if needed.
I'm not sure why there are such mixed reviews on this router as it has performed very well for me. Setup wasn't simple but it wasn't that difficult either. Mostly the app just isn't great and didn't recognize the router at first but after a few minutes it was fine. I configured the router with my wired PC and set it up how I wanted it. My speeds are supposed to be 100 up 20 down(Spectrum). With my old netgear router(N600) i was lucky to get 20% of that. With this router I've consistently been able to achieve 60 up 12 down over wifi and 100+ up ~20 down over wired. I have two gaming PCs wired to the router and around 10 wifi devices running concurrently with no problems. I'm sure I can mess with the configurations a little more and get better results for wifi but I'm not too worried about it. Hopefully when I get 1gb it will still hold up.
The range on this router is good. I would say 2000 sq ft and I still have full connection. Luckily my house is smaller than that so its plenty for me.

For the price it's a good router. Fast, good for medium to large homes. Boot up take a bit and setting it up can take some time since the app that comes with it to help you set it up it's useless. I have a 1Gbps internet and wired I was getting speeds around 600Mbps and wireless given I dont have any AX devices yet I was getting over AC around 450 Mbps near router. Overall good router.

This is my last Netgear router. I've owned other Netgear routers, some of them have outlasted and outperformed this RAX-40. I made the mistake of jumping on to the Wifi6 bandwagon when they first came out with the Nighthawk AX line. This router has been riddled with firmware issues & connection dropouts. Every update is guaranteed to brick it and I've had to bring it back from the dead using TFTP so many times and the fact that it needed a restart every other day is a easy sign that it was on it last legs. The app is buggy and not consistent. There are so many videos and threads on Youtube & Reddit showing the hoops people have to jump through to get these setup and working right, it's quite ridiculous. When it worked, it was great, it does everything and more but the negatives outweigh the positives. Huge regrets paying $200 for a brand name router and have it last 1.5 years to be replaced by a backup N300 is simply unacceptable. I have always sworn by Netgear and recommended them to countless friends and family but that stops today.

I had to swap out an old router that has been going bad. In the 2 months that I have had this. The greatest improvement is in the range. I get great coverage (4 bedroom - one floor) throughout the house and into the garage. That was not the case with my old router. As of now, there have been no need for resets and there have been no lags or freez ups while streaming with multiple devices. I can say that I am happy with the unit. I will never know if I could have gotten away with a lesser expensive model. I do know that I am ready for future improvements in wi-fi technology with this unit.

Fairly easy setup using the net gear app on the iPhone. I’m using mine in bridge mode so I can’t really speak to the routing/NAT ability but it seems fine with really good range and strong signal. I did have a power outage at my house and that caused the router to completely reset itself thus the 4 stars. Should’ve been able to take a power drop and still maintain its functionality.

I have been using a Netgear router since 2013 and felt the need for an upgrade. I went to Best Buy and bought the Nighthawk AX4. Thanks to the app I installed my new router with ease. I didn't even know my phone was Wifi 6 capable until I connected it. My battery life has improved since. My desktop computer is hooked directly with the ethernet cable, while I have 3 HD TV's, 2 laptops, 2 phones, 4 tablets, 1 game system and the list continues. This router has handled it all with no problems. By far the best improvement I've bought.

I had recently increased my internet plan that has speeds up to 100 mb and I thought my old router was doing a fine job then one day without reason my old router took a dump and stopped working. I relied on the salesman to guide me on my purchase and we agreed this would be perfect and perfect it was! I now have a much larger WiFi area of coverage and the speed on each device is significantly noticeable. I highly recommend it!

I've been in IT for 23 years and this is by far one of the worst products that I've dealt with in a very long time. I know how to configure a wireless router and it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes, tops. However, this one was a chore at about 3 1/2 hours. After multiple hoops and not even working out of the box until I upgraded the firmware, it's honestly not worth the bother. It takes a solid 4 minutes to boot, (WHY?!) and wouldn't pull an IP from my cable modem after a POPO of the modem nearly 15 times. I finally got it working after the firmware upgrade but the performance was meh and the UI is super sluggish. This product very well may be good in the long run but the firmware/software is just too buggy at this point. I exchanged it for the Asus RT-AC1900P and COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! I had the Asus working in about 10 minutes and it's been super rock solid and very speedy. Save yourself the headache and stay away from this one!

I was searching for a router last min decisions with my little bro, so we came across this one and talked to one of the Best Buy experts and he recommended it, he gave me the whole 411 on it.. all you need to know is that it’s easy to install! Speed is reliable! Works perfectly and it’s range is good enough for me and we can stream and be on multiple things and it won’t crash or lag.. give you full control over the app on the phone

The NightHawk AX4 is a fantastic WiFi 6 router! It supports multiple streams, so you can connect dozens of devices to it, even in a small location, and get good throughput for each device. I routinely get speeds way beyond WiFi 5 (where I previously got 450Mbps speeds on Apple AC router) I now get nearly 600Mbps of throughput for those same WiFi 5 devices! As we get new devices, I expect them to take full advantage of this router’s capacity (unless, your phone came out this year, it probably does not have a WiFi6 network adapter), which can supply throughput in the gigabits.
I was also shocked that this router can be a VPN server, and act as your own private home cloud (NAS storage), once you plug in a hard drive directly to the router’s USB port all with out of the box software from NightHawk. I plan to use these features to get away from Apple’s $10 2TB iCloud plan per month, and instead backup my files to my external 8TB hard drive at home using Nighthawk’s OpenVPN server from anywhere in the world. Overall, I highly recommend this WiFi router! You’ll be future proofing your home for years to come with a device like this

I was excited to get my first Wi-Fi 6 router. Unfortunately, it does not cover bigger distances such as 2 stories well. Worse still, after messing with some of the settings, trying to optimize the router, doing firmware updates, I was getting continuous problems with this router. My new iPhone kept saying my password was incorrect, every other time I tried to connect to the Wi-Fi, and when I enter in the same exact password, it connects. My password was never incorrect so I don't know why it kept saying it. Speeds were not as fast as I would have liked either. The different setting options need to have more explanations. Firmware update made the router have more headaches than comfort. I ended up switching this router our for a GT-AC5300 & I am much happier.
