When my trusty Nighthawk X4S gave up after several good years, I picked up this X1000 AX5400 locally despite a few bad reviews. Very glad I did. Not sure why the other reviewers had issues...was easy to set up and has been working flawlessly ever since. My old router had been struggling to keep up with a larger house and more devices. Set the SSID/password on each band to the old ones and everything connected. This Nighthawk has better range and speed than the last gen, and I haven’t had to reboot it once so far. Hitting above advertised speeds every time I test. Wifi 6 is great—36 attached devices and counting, ready for my PS5! Don’t let the bad reviews scare you, I love this thing.

I've had this device for a little over a year now, and to be honest it fell short of my expectations. It has the speed capabilities and some visually nice features. However, the Dashboard for it is very slow, if the router reboots the configuration can easily be thrown off from what you set previously. For example, if you add a device manually and give it an assigned IP after you save the config the device will choose to jumble the name up and makes for a very confusing list. You might as well just keep your own separate list to keep track of what is what. Also, often when I have a clear connection on my modem the router's wifi will stop working causing more reboots and delays. Top that off with the fact that it did a factory reset a few times when I rebooted causing the headache of going through full-setup a handful of times. All in all, it has the speed capabilities but its interface and reliability are questionable. I'd say even without ISP outages I still experienced significant down time with this device alone. For the price point of this device, it shouldn't have these issues.

We’ve been getting great speeds and whole house coverage with the router. The DumaOS can be a bit daunting to figure out at first but once it’s set up with some help from some vids from Netgear and YouTube it’s dialed in. Getting really low ping playing COD. Great router and got it on sale.

Never drops signal, has network protection, and was simple to set up. After trying a couple of the recently (discontinued) versions of the nighthawk (which were terrible) I landed on this one and it’s been worth every Penny. I have over 30 devices connected (smart devices mostly) and everything works flawlessly w this routed.

Great router for gaming, really boosted my service giving me lower latency, and no packet loss. This pair with a faster internet of 400 mbps or more is lovely for gaming as well as much more. I also have a detached garage that i get no service in but i can manage to catch wifi off this router even from there to some degree.

The router looks nice -- it has that 80s Sega color scheme to is -- and it feels nice (very light) and its initial setup was simple. However, configuring it post-setup has been a nightmare. The DumaOS that runs this router is a severely broken app; it's as if they just skipped past QA and pushed code directly into production and deployed it to this router without any testing whatsoever. DumaOS doesn't always load (very often just hangs on a spinner), and when it occasionally does load the dashboard, it consistently gives me pop-up errors that certain pages cannot load; and most links I click on just brings up a blank broken page. It is impossible to even configure this router. I went to Netgear support for this and the support person admitted they were NOT TRAINED on DumaOS and referred me to the forums for this app. After Netgear support, I worked with the fine people at the DumaOS forums and they had me perform a lot of actions, but none worked. Some concluded that the router itself was defective, but it appears to me it's DumaOS that is defective. Using the Nighthawk App during the setup, I was forced to do a firmware upgrade to the latest, and I have no idea if whether or not this caused the issue. But I reinstalled the firmware, did multiple factory resets, used multiple browsers on multiple platforms to try and configure, and DumaOS simply will not work. I'll never trust a device that runs DumaOS going forward, this was very frustrating and very disappointing experience. Just say no to this product, or any product that runs DumaOS. This router is going back to Best Buy and I highly doubt I will get another Netgear router as I don't want to risk getting anything with DumaOS on it.

    Excellent Performance and Coverage!

Pros: This router preforms beautifully. I have 200mbps internet service and every single device is rocking out at around 180mbps on wireless speed tests. The coverage area from this router is nearly double that of my former XR500 Nighthawk making the need for possibly getting a mesh setup at this house moot. The DumaOS interface is very good. The visualization of real time performance, device usage, is fascinating to see. This allows you to take steps to set device prioritization. Gaming wise it also has additional features to mitigate attacks, encourage nearby servers for low ping times, and automatically optimizes traffic as needed to ensure reliable connectivity when it matters most. Between all of my phones, laptops, cams, smart plugs, etc I have about 27 devices in my house. This router handles them with ease. We’ve had 5 people streaming / gaming while I was downloading and uploading large files for work. This unit handled it with rock solid reliability and maintained consistent speed. Cons: DumaOS on this router can be slow to load at times and a tad buggy. When this happens, sometimes a device will struggle to connect or suddenly get very sluggish. Rebooting the router fixes this every time. I reached out to support and am told an update is in the works to fix. Since DumaOS is being routinely updated, some quirks are expected. Even so, the fact that these update also fix said quirks and provide new features makes the occasional reboot worth it. Netgear’s Nighthawk series also has an app you can use on your phone to view and make router adjustments as needed. DumaOS also released a smartphone app which gives further functionality. Overall I’d highly recommend this router. I’ve been buying Netgear equipment for many years and they’ve been quite reliable. I’ve also owned Linksys, ASUS, TP-Link, and Ubiquiti wifi routers. Compared similar models from the competition, this unit preforms better for my daily needs and seems like a better value for money in general. In conclusion, yes this router is quite an investment for the average household. But if you are like me and want to “future proof” yourself for a few years while also getting excellent performance, this is the way to go. I’ve gotten just as good if not better performance from this unit vs models that cost $600+

This is a good router is not the perfect router but it does hold his ground if you know how to set this equipment, I will say used the app and then try to go on the website login in and keep doing any modifications from there so used your PC to get the most from this equipment, if you are not going to need AX features just uncheck that box and keep on going, if you are a gamer DUMAS3 does really give you way more control from the previous XR500 so I will take that any day and if you don't really do gaming just pick a different Netgear Nighthawk with a simple OS and don't worry about this router but if you are not a gamer and if you can adapt to Dumas well there is a room for you there as well, not sure on reviews here that will said Dumas is a terrible OS is not perfect but it does give you more control over your network. So far I got more that 10+ wireless clients, 2 gamin consoles, 4 wired including a NAS and so far this baby is not breaking a sweat!

Awesome router. It perfectly balances all the devices in the home really well. I used to have buffering issues when downloading games which caused the tv, phones and tablets to have super slow wifi but this fixed that issue and now it's non existent! Would recommend this to anyone. Also wifi 6 :).

The features of this route are a pain to get working. You have to jump trough hoops to get it to run at the correct speed. The netduma feature does not work unless you downgrade to a. Certain firmware and that only guarantees it will work 50% of the time
