Customers are saying

Customers praise the Nighthawk X10 AD7200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router for its impressive range, strong performance, and ease of setup, resulting in excellent coverage and signal strength, great for streaming and other demanding applications. However, some customers note that the router is expensive and large, and a few have experienced issues with the firmware. Despite these drawbacks, many users find the improved speed and reliability worthwhile.

I purchased this to replace an nighthawk x6 I had for about 3 years. It was a good router until firmware updates killed it reliability(well known issue) I tried the asus ac 3100 but had several issues with loss connections and never got the hard drive feature to work correctly after several attempts with asus support. So we decided to give netgear another try. The X 10 was exactly what was advertised I plugged it in followed the set up listed in the quick start paper and it just worked! Total set up was maybe 5 minutes, took longer to get everything connected to the new network than it did to set the router up. My home is a 3200 sf 2 story with a slab first floor with cinder block walls, second is conventional wood construction. With my older X6 I had to move it to the second floor in a centrally located room to get full coverage and this gave me about 50 ft on either side of the house outside and about 75 ft to the rear of the house where the router was located. The new router is located in the same place however the range is far far better. Basically if I can see my house I am on the network. So it's about 500 feet from my house to the tree line I still have 4 of 5 bars showing on my device. I have to go another 50-75 feet into the woods before the signal falls off. In the front of the house without any real obstructions my phone connects to my home network as soon as I turn onto the street about an 1/8th of a mile away!!!

So far I love my new router, and I am getting much faster speeds than my old router. The newest firmware caused the router to randomly reboot itself if QoS is enabled, and the parental controls are a bit too restrictive. Disable QoS and this is a solid, speedy router with tons of features. Perfect for all of my smart home gadgets and covers throughout my house and entire yard extremely well.

Initially doing a quick setup with the Netgear app everything work for a day. After a day the unit stopped working and had to have a factory reset performed. Unfortunately, there is a known issue regarding how this particular router interacts with Comcast Xfinity, essentially making the router a paperweight. The unit has to be placed in bridge mode to allow it to communicate properly with Comcast’s modems. After that issue was fixed the unit works wonderfully.

I absolutely love this router. It is the best home router I have owned to date. I upgraded my connection to fiber from my provider, but other routers would slow down in speed tests due to inability to pass packets fast enough. This router was able to keep up, showing very little difference than being plugged in straight to the provider's modem. I've also made use of the 10G connection for a NAS for the home. No complaints.

In the last 2 months I have tried the linksys ea8500, z34 and now this router. I wanted a gaming router and was disapointed with the z34. 2.4 ghz did not work well. Linksys would not replace it, since it was new and made me take it back to store for a refund. Pride will not let me buy another linksys. The x10 It is simple to use. I had to turn off the 60hz cuz it seemed to interfer with my 2.4 but it is a non isssue since nothing will run on it. I consistantly get 100+ mbs down and 11 up with my router in my livingroom and computer (using 5ghz) in the bedroom 100ft away. I have been having intermitant internet service with cox but think it is on there end since all 3 routers had same issue. Fan has never turned on...read about this cuz it has not reached a high temp yet. Powerful and future proofed. Bought it on sale for $413 at BestBuy

This router does it all with great range and strong signals. It can handle streaming 4K movies from the built in Plex media server while streaming Hulu and Netflix while both my boys are on separate PS4's playing online games. This router is a beast! If your not going to use Plex then save some money and buy a different high end router as there are others out there for less money.

Let me rewind the scenario for a few weeks before the purchase: A certain large cable/ISP had been charging me for a 60MBPS service and I was only receiving a 30 MBPS when the signal was at full strength. I had my entire system hacked by someone from another country AFTER I contacted THEIR customer service. After several days and parts replacements (Modem, router, etc), I ended up with the Netgear Nighthawk X6. When my services suffered, I contacted Netgear. Whomever I spoke with bricked the brand new router the day after I purchased it. It would no longer respond to any login command or send out a signal. I returned it to BestBuy. I asked what was the step above this router (X6), and they responded that it was an X8 but they were out. To shorten the story, I ended up with this X10. With the modem change, a service call by my ISP, and this new modem, I had astounding speeds. I did a little research, the cables provided with the router and modem are CAT5e. I highly suggest you spend (literally) a couple of dollars extra and purchase the CAT6 cables. I gained about 10MBPS after that change. That was tested wirelessly during peak times (117MBPS). Bottom line, if you are running an entire household off of this router as I am, you will love it. Totally worth the extra coin and future proof for a few years at this point.

Set-up was very easy, and thanks to a modem upgrade, I'm getting faster speeds than ever. We are using multiple streaming devices, at any given time, and no lag or buffing thus far. Price should be lower.

My old router was giving me half of my internet speed. Decided to get this one and was pleasantly content. My internet speed was at full strength. The app is a nice feature. Rather easy to install. The app helped in doing that. I think this is the best router in the market for the money.

Quadrupled my speed at home. There are four essential points I'd like to make: 1) All these years I paid for a 50mbps speed from my cable company. I had an older Netgear from 2009 which has served me well all these years (and still works), but I decided it was time to upgrade. Typically I was getting only 12-17mbps through my wi-fi (for example, to my iPhone6). After getting this Nighthawk Router, I now understand 57mbps on the same iPhone. All of my devices are much faster now... PS4, iPhones, iPads, Epson Printer, Baby Monitor, Tablets, Roku 3 box, Roku Streaming Stick, etc... 2) Cables .... Please note, one other thing I did in addition to getting this router is that I also bought all new cat6 wires (from Amazon Basics), and that has helped the router to connect well to the cable modem. From the router itself, I have a few wired items (Roku 3 box, PS4, my PC). And note that I tested the Roku 3 box, PS4, and PC wirelessly as well. In all conditions, wired with Cat6 cables and wi-fi, this Nighthawk router has delivered the speeds I was missing for years. 3) Interface.... Also, I like the interface for setting up and using the router. I love that you get two options of 2.4ghz or 5ghz connection. One thing to keep in mind is that some older devices can only use 2.4g, so it is that old device itself that limits the connection speed (not your wi-fi necessarily). Newer devices are 5g capable and can maximize the speed capability. 4) Security... I also like the "Access Control" feature so that you have to permit a device to connect to your wi-fi. For example, when I got a new iPad this Christmas, I logged into my wi-fi network and put in the proper password, but it wouldn't connect to the internet. Then I went to the Netgear interface on my PC, and it displayed that the iPad had been blocked (because Access Control is turned on). So then I simply hit a checkbox to "allow" the iPad onto my home network, and then it connected. Finally, I am not a tech person; I just try to read up on things to the best of my ability. I hope my review helps some of you. 5 STARS

X10 is best the router I’ve ever owned

The best router out there. Setup was super easy. The router works great with NETGEAR range extender AC1200 and strong signal. The router is about same size as ASUS RT AC88U except the antennas are bulky. The router range coverages throughout my house. I’ve tried few other routers. NETGEAR X4S, X6, X6S, XR500, ASUS RT AC88U. X10 meet my expectations. My download speed is 1000Mbps. The router top speed at 940.12Mbps. I’m extremely sastified! Out of the box, the cooling fan is not running. You have to log in as admin to adjust the temperature for the fan to run. More info click on a link below. https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R9000-Fan/td-p/1174400

This is the fourth Netgrear router I have purchased over the years. I think that this is the best so far and the supporting software “Genie” worked flawlessly. Easy to setup, easy to use and the information provided though the software is excellent.

I replaced my netgear nighthawk ac1900 with this one and it's pretty awesome. It is a bit on the heavy side but not too bad. The antennae light up like runway lights and everything works as described. You will not be disappointed with this router.

My old Nighthawk just wasn’t able to handle the demand my family put on it and struggled with the 12mbs my provider was giving. This new Nighthawk 10x is ridiculously fast. No more slow downloads or hang ups. Fantastic product !

Noticeable up-speed from older model. A bit bulky as it has to lay horizontal but i have it hidden behind the game room television. I keep the led lights off as they will keep the room lighted up.

I had the ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 for almost a year which I purchased from Best Buy. I can honestly tell you that was my favorite wifi router. It had everything I wanted and was looking for. Unfortunately it developed problems which caused me to use my extended warranty I purchased from Best Buy. I now have the Nighthawk X10 AD7200 and have been using it for a little over a month now. It has been pretty solid with the exception of a few times I have had to reboot the unit. For some reason it locked up and I found it to be a DNS issue both times. I'm thinking the firmware may have some DNS issues so I did let Netgear know about my issue and what I found in my troubleshooting. I love the PLEX server built into the router. That is a simple A+ in my opinion. You can't go wrong with that addition to a router. It is not perfect but PLEX appears to be constantly updating the firmware and working on issues that seem to pop up and resolve them really quick. I think they are really listening to feedback if you ask me. As for running any sort of torrent downloads I did notice this router does not really like it much. I seem to get lock ups and have to reboot the router after letting it run for extended torrent downloads times. Yes I do run a VPN for my torrent downloads and did verify the issue is not with the VPN it all points to the Nighthawk X10 AD7200. It just does not like torrent downloading I guess. The Nighthawk X10 AD7200 makes onel of the best video streamers for all your streaming subscription services. No complaints or issues at all that I can find. Remote access from my phone, table or work to my Nighthawk X10 AD7200 seem to be flawless. No lock ups no problems at all that I can think of. I have had something like four firmware updates from Netgear so I can tell you they are constantly working to improve how the Nighthawk X10 AD7200 functions. Now yes... All gamers want to know how it works for gaming. I have to tell you that it works very well. I'm a Twitch streamer and do play on PS4, Xbox One and PC. I have had not lag or problems with online Twitch streaming or just gaming online in general. This is a well rounded wifi router in my opinion. The reason for the not giving five stars is because of the few lockups and torrent downloading issues. I'm not going to get rid of the Nighthawk X10 AD7200 anytime soon but I am on the look out for the best of the best when it comes to wifi routers.
