Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Nighthawk X4 AC2350 Smart Wi-Fi Dual-Band Wireless-AC Router's impressive range, ease of use, and strong signal, leading to better performance and reliable streaming. Many appreciate the improved coverage and connectivity it provides throughout their homes. While some find the router expensive and large, positive experiences with setup and a lack of lag outweigh these concerns for most users. A few users reported issues with the firmware, but these seem to be less common than positive reviews.

Increased overall speed through wifi. Easy setup. Price at $250 is a little too much for any router, Bestbuy price matched me at $150 though.

I was so frustrated with my old router dropping the signal and making it difficult for my wife to get her older iPad connected to wifi. This one is excellent so far.

Short version: I like this router. I started to take away one star because the software called Netgear Genie has some cosmetic issues when used with Chrome. Also I would like a feature to monitor traffic on a device by device level. I don't see any way to do that. I have since decided that is too harsh. If I could I'd remove 1/2 of a star for these things. After the apple announcement for new lower prices on iCloud storage I upgraded to 200 GB and told my macbook pro to store all of my photos on iCloud. The only problem is my entire network ground to whenever my mbp was uploading. I learned how to "pause for a day" in order to do other things. Like research the issue. I am a Comcast customer, and was using a Comcast modem router combination. I did some research and purchased a "Linksys Advanced DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem, Certified for Comcast and Compatible with Major Cable Providers (DPC3008-CC)". I plugged it in and spent a few minutes getting it set up with Comcast and plugged in my old router and did a speed test. I was not getting close to my rated speed of 50 mbs. Back on the phone with Comcast who had me plug the modem directly into my pc and test again. 50+ mbs. So it was my router's fault. More research and I was looking at two models about $40 or $50 less expensive than this one. I read reviews and went in to discuss with the sales rep. We went back and fourth about the two models I was close to choosing. Then we walked over to the self and I started reading the boxes. In the end I choose this model and paid a little more to two USB 3 ports with which I could mount USB drives on my network. My intention is to mount my timemachine disk to the network so my mbp can backup over the net and not have to be directly connected. Since my mbp is a little older it only had a USB2 port and hence large backups take a lot longer than if it was USB3 speed. Setup: Relatively easy if you have done this kind of thing before. For better security I "block all new devices from connecting". This requires a little more work on my part when a friend or family member wants to connect but I feel a little safer with this option enabled. In our household we have about 17 devices currently connected. Two iPhones, Two Amazon Fire tablets, and iPad, a Macbook pro, 2 work laptops, a desktop, an amazon echo, a smart DVD player, the DirectTV box, an Apple TV, an Amazon Fire stick, a network printer, a Nest thermostat and a network disk drive. Performance: Before upgrading the modem and buying this router uploading files to iCloud was killing my entire network for days. After upgrading and turning on the Quality of Service feature on the router all of my devices can operate at the same time. I live in split level town home, the router is in an office in the middle level and my guest room in the basement gets high speed signal as does the entire house. Guest feature: The router has wifi guest feature which is a walled off connection for your guests with a different name and different password than the main wifi connections. Initially I started to connect some of my devices to this network for added safety as it has a feature to not let the devices see each other. I thought this would give my network added protection if one of the devices caught a virus. Eventually I moved most devices back to the main network as each of them had reason to talk to the other devices. For instance the iPhones both have Apple remote apps, Amazon Firestick remote apps and Amazon Echo apps installed, the Amazon tablets both need to talk to the Amazon fire stick and all them need to talk to the Amazon echo. Again I really like this router. It is so far handling a house full of devices both wired and wireless very well. I also recently upgraded to 105 mbs speed on the network. Of course this helps if the router can keep up, so far I've tested that by running speed tests on multiple devices at the same time and if I add them together I get around 125 mbs down and 12-13 up. Good enough for now.

Pros: Simple setup - was up and running 10 minutes out of the box. Genie app - I love being able to administrate with a mobile device Stable - the router appears to be stable. Generated 300 GB of downloading within the first 5 days. Never gave an issue. Cons: Cost - Quite pricey for what it does Bright - even though it has a shutoff for all lights by the power, even that one light serves as a whole room nightlight. Big - Huge unit, I think the cosmetics could be greatly condensed. I don't have my full house setup to take full advantage of the AC network yet. This was bought to enable full house streaming, in light of Xbox to Windows 10 streaming and setting up 3 Tivo minis (using AC bridges). This was the first networking component I purchased, while putting the bridges (and minis) on a buy as needed. Once those are setup I will have a better idea of how well the AC does.

This has lots of room for many devices 2.33Gps total. Its fast (not the fastest) compared to routers in this league. Its a bit expensive. Only has 4 Ethernet ports but has 2 usb 3s and an esata port. The unit gets slightly warm like my older units. Has a great range.

I was very hesitant about this router after reading other reviews. Setup was simple, good string signal throughout my 1300sqft home, fast transfer speeds. I have not experienced any issues with the router since purchasing 1 month ago. I am able to stream to XB1, chromecast, plex, 1080P movies and have no issues. I was able to pick this up on sale so that helped. Research says router supports 4k streaming, I have not been able to test this.

I live in an area where 20 MB is max speed ( which usually amounts to 13 to 17MB hard wired), so getting the most out of that is very important! We have about 11 total devices. The router my Internet provider gave us just couldn't handle it. It would only put out at best 10 MB wired and about 6MB wireless. When I would play online gaming on my PS4 it would lag bad and the other devices would suffer as well. Not only did this router fix this issue with its ability to automatically switch devices to different channels it also extended the range tremendously! I now get the max 13 to 17MB) wired, and there is almost NO drop off when it comes to wireless speed like there was with the old router. There is a lot of cool features in the genie for cutting off witless to certian devices at set times (kids) or turning off wireless all toghter at certian times (businesses). Overall it's probably a bit more then I need but I like to be sure and have room for future expansion. Highly recommend

I have used this router for over 30 days now. It has very strong signal and extremely reliable connections. I have 4 devices streaming videos at the same time and this router handles them perfectly. Just on a side note, make sure you upgrade the firmware once purchased and follow the instructions to reset the router after upgrade as this is very important otherwise you can face several issues.

I've always liked Netgear products. Like anything else though there are those that always seem to have issues. Router was easy to set up. Took about 10 minutes. 350Mbps down and 20Mbps up from my ISP. Loving it. I really like the Genie software. We backup all our workstations on a 2TB eSATA drive attached to the router. We also put movies and music on the drive to stream throught the house.

    Perfect Router for Online Gaming

As expected, the router performs flawlessly in regards to online gaming. I'm able to use my Xbox 360 and Xbox One simultaneously with open NATs and nonexistent lag. This was accomplished with no settings to tweak, no ports to forward, and simply following the quick setup guide. There's never less than six devices connected at any given time, and traffic frequently hits double digit devices in my household. This router handles all of that without straining. In conclusion, this router is amazing if you enjoy online gaming and hate jumping through hoops to get others routers to work correctly for such. However, this device would probably be a bit much for casual web surfing with a couple devices. It really depends on your household needs.

The Nighthawk replaced an AirPort Extreme router which had served us well for a few years. Installation was quick and simple. We haven't had a dropped wifi signal or hic-cup since installation. Great speeds, strong signal, running LAN and dual band wifi.

I went from having a Linksys E2500 and I had no idea what I was missing. With 8 gaming/streaming/video chatting hungry people in the house, each with what seems like 5 devices, we have a lot going on. I have a 50MB connection but I always seemed to be log jammed and dealing with dropped connections. No more. I just slammed a 59MB/sec download over wifi. I never saw past 30 MB/sec on the old one. Not only that, but I was streaming on Amazon while 2 other users were in HD Google hangouts. No complaints from anyone. So happy. The QOS was a piece of cake to set up and the parental controls are great. If you're waffling on spending this much on a router, feel safe with the 14 day return policy and take it home for a test drive. You will not bring it back.

I upgraded after getting Amazon price match, I was prev using netgear AC 1750 R6300 router but with all the devices I've added over the past year and increase in my internet speed just wasn't getting maximum potential and range but as soon as I swapped with the nighthawk it was like night n day. Everything streamed fast n buffering or freezing or crashing anymore. Very easy n quick to set up n netgear has genie app to use on any device or computer to access your router n network n external hard drives n printers from anywhere. Highly recommend this router!!!

Needed a router as my Motorola surfboard modem wifi signal was not reaching to all rooms. Found this for a very low price on Walmart and Best Buy sales rep did a price match ($100 off the store price). There are few issues with 5G signal on this router, it drops all the time with in few min even after firmware update. The regular wireless signal does not have the same issue so all devices are connected to it now. Noticed increase in speed and coverage. Will recommend if it comes for a great deal like mine.
