When the BB sales person described how good this router was compared to everything else in the store I was skeptical to say the least. However, upon further discussion (capable and technical sales person) I accepted his opinion along with some of my own research and agreed to buy. Well, they are great. Easy to instal and set up, great range and compared to my Apple router and extenders they stand out great in a performance respects.
PS: I bought a second set with 2 extenders for my other house and I am thrilled.

Great system for a big house

First off, you have to love the name "Orbi," it just sounds so cool. I give them points for that right away. In all seriousness, the Orbi system is a really cool concept that deserves lots of credit. You have a router and satellites that link together to extend your network practically everywhere in your house.
I'll start off with the packaging. It comes in a really neat package that just makes this system so appealing. You get a router and a "satellite," which is pretty much a range extender. You get an ethernet cable and a power supply for each device. I really like how everything was packaged so neatly. The satellite and router are the same size, and look identical. They aren't too bulky, so they won't take much space wherever you decide to put them. They are pleasant to see, as they have a really elegant styling. I put the router in my living room, and the satellite in one of my bedrooms. The only downside to this system is that the power supplied are really bulky for what they are. They're around the same size as an Apple laptop's charger, so they're bulky.
The setup was not too bad. I guess I should've followed the instruction instead of going about my way, so I'll call that installer error. Once figured out, the connection from the satellite to the router was a breeze. Make sure you disconnect your modem, if you have one, and wait for a few seconds before connecting it back up. I connected the router and the satellite, and they pretty much did their thing automatically. This system can be installed by anyone, regardless expertise, so don't be afraid to try it yourself. If you have a big home, the only thing to worry about is the perfect location to place the satellite. This is also easy since your working with a colored coated system that will let you know, so that's as difficult as it would probably get. The only thing you are plugging in are the power supplies and the ethernet cable to the router.
After install, I ran a speed test right away to truly test this systems performance. I was surprised to see 172.77 download speeds, and 12.11 upload speeds from a 150mbps service. The speed test was consistent even after I connected all of my devices (Smart TV, multiple tablets, printer, laptop, phones). The speeds remained practically the same, even while streaming TV and using other devices. This is a Tri-band system, so that's always a BIG plus, AND it's MU-MIMO capable. The router has ethernet ports as well, so you can hardwire devices to it, if truly necessary. You'll pretty much be covered everywhere. I notices on my devices throughout the house that the signal was "excellent" while I was connecting them, even in the back of my house. I have no doubt that the signal will continue to be strong all the way to my detachable garage, which is truly a must for me.
Overall, Netgear's Orbi System is a really slick looking system that truly delivers. I checked out some of the other available systems that are in the market today, and have to say that this was the best looking, and was also packed with the latest technology. It looks good in my living room, and performs flawlessly. There is not very much to do to get it up and running. You also have the ability to connect multiple satellites if you are using this system in a big square footage home or business.
I would highly recommend this product to anybody that is in the market for a complete Wi-Fi system. From the looks, all the way down to performance, this is a great system to have if you have many devices and/or a big home. For all of those out there that aren't tech savvy, this is the system for you. Truly a plug-and-play system. You will not be disappointed.

First of all, I am not a technical type person! For years I have used Time Warner/Spectrum Cable. Always had internet issues and didn't realize the total impact. Bought the 4k tv a couple of years back and streaming anything would freeze up because it was slow. I had continuous weak signals and dropped lines. Every time Spectrum would either replace their modem/router or tell me I had to buy a faster speed package! It was so frustrating because they kept upselling me and saying it was the best it could be. Finally, I went into BEST BUY and asked a salesperson if there was anything I could do. Before I could finish telling him about my dealings with Spectrum he finished the story for me. He told me what their response was and hit it right on the head. He said I should be able to solve the problem by getting a new router and showed me the ORBI and several other brands. I went home and researched my butt off. I decided on the ORBI because of the Meshing ability through the whole house. (3200 square feet with dead zones everywhere).
Prior to installing, my son and I checked speed tests throughout the house. We had the 100 MBPS package. The speed test continuously showed 2 - 5 Download at the farthest point in the house to 70-80 5 feet from their top modem/router. After setting up the ORBI there is not a single spot in the house we score less than 100 even on a Friday night! Streaming movies or internet speed have made it look like I have a brand new 4k tv on all 4 TVs in the house. I haven't dropped a phone call since installing that and a new modem!
I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST INVESTMENTS I HAVE MADE IN TECHNOLOGY! My son is a gamer and it is amazing the difference it has made for him. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE ORBI. I no longer have to rent an ineffective product from Spectrum! Thank you to the young man that was really knowledgeable at Best Buy, and Thank you to ORBI!

Extremely easy to set up. Lights on satellite showing strength of connection a very nice feature. Replaced an expensive router (broken) and range extender combo with this setup and am happier than I’ve ever been with my network.
I live in a three story townhouse. My cable modem is on the third floor, but my home theater and gaming systems are on the first. This setup now gives me as strong a signal on the first floor as the third. No extra lag, no extra hops, no matter how many devices online at once.
One star withheld due to price.

Click on Add To Cart! You will not be sorry! It will be the BEST Wi-Fi router you have/could ever purchase. NO MORE DEAD ZONES!! My computer is in a 1st floor room on one end of the house, with a masonry wall (fireplace) between it and the router on the 2nd floor (in the middle of the house). Finally, FINALLY, we have a consistent signal with the download speed over-performing at a constant 118Mbps (on a 100Mbps plan)! Easy to set up, just Follow The Directions.

Decided to upgrade the 7 year old router, even with an extender had multiple dead zones in the house, plus the inconvenience of switching between the main and extended network. After seeing the tech, the ease of use, and parental controls, decided on the Orbi. Unbelievably easy set up. Guest network also set up. Previous dead zones now have full 65mbps download and 6 upload, which is the service limit. Can’t express enough how nice this system is!

A different look for a Wi-Fi device

To start off, I received this wi-fi system from Best Buy to review it and the review will be honest. I have been using this router for 2 weeks before I wrote this review as I wanted to make sure of it's performance. And it sure does not disappoint.
Though I've hooked up a few wireless routers in my day, it seems quite some time in between hooking them up, so it's almost new to me each time I do so. I had the whole Orbi system set up and configured including changing passwords, system name, etc. in 35 - 45 minutes. I'm sure many will do it faster than I did though.
I have the Orbi Router (RBR50) and the Orbi Satellite (RBS50) These have a way different look than just about every Wi-Fi system out there. At first it was weird looking at them, but now I can see they blend in nicely, almost like a vase of some sort. I provided a few photos so that you can see what they look like even though Best Buy has the "factory" photos posted. The measurements of the units are 9" high x 6 5/8 wide x 2 1/3 deep and weigh 2 pounds each.
My house is 2 stories and roughly 1800 square feet. My internet connection is in an upstairs office, so the main unit is there. Unfortunately, the main unit is just a few inches away from a solid concrete wall that is about 3" thick. BUT, it did not impede the performance at all. The satellite unit is downstairs, and it too is near a wall, and again, no problems. Both units combined will cover approximately 4000 square feet.
Currently I have 2 pc's connected by Lan ports, and 3 cell phones, 2 iPads, 1 Verizion tablet, 1 PS4, 1 Xbox 1 and a 4K Roku connected wirelessly. While all have not been running at the same time, the performance has been flawless. Gaming on the consoles has been great with no lag. And streaming 4K content to my Roku, then into my home theater system has worked great as well.
Four (4) 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet ports. The main unit has 1 WAN + 3 LAN and 1 USB 2.0 while the satellite has 4 LAN and one USB 2.0
My only real gripe has been the power bricks for the units. They are BIG and it took a bit of reconfiguring my electrical outlets to get everything plugged back in. My previous power brick for my Asus AC1900 was much smaller. The Orbi power bricks measure 3 1/4 tall x 2 3/4 wide x 1 1/8 thick.
Other than that, everything has been working great since it was hooked up 2 weeks ago. Though this system is a bit pricey ($399.99) at this writing, it's worth every penny. I highly recommend this set up.

I did not look forward to updating my WiFi system, worried that it would be too technical, too complicated. Turned out, nothing could be further from the truth. The Orbi was super simple to install, setup practically took care of itself. I have about a 5,000 sq ft house, and the two pieces reach every corner. Speedtest monitors prove that I am getting every mps that the network is providing. Could not be more satisfied with a product.

For the past 3 months, I have been searching for a great wireless mesh networking system to use in my 4500 sq ft home. After reading review after review from the experts, I decided to go with the Orbi system. I am so happy I did! First of all, the setup was simple. Just download the app and follow the prompts. The system was up and running in less than 15 minutes. Second, is the speed! Boy do I love the speed of this system. We have 33 devices connected to our wifi network and I'm still getting download speeds of 100mbps. We finally have great wifi coverage throughout our house, even the backyard. No more dead zones. The only negative about this unit is that it is a lot bulkier than some of the other systems out there. Overall, this thing rocks!

I've deployed this device as a wifi access point and router at multiple homes (5 now). It works flawlessly. No need to reboot and it it's signal is very strong. I have 4 deployments as one router and one satellite and one deployment as 2 satellites and 1 router. They have solved problems that other peer to peer wifi systems could not solve (linksys Velop, Luma and eero). I have no hesitation recommending this product.

I have been using Netgear's nighthawk and then later the nighthawk 4s routers up until now. A surge toasted my 4s and I decided to change it out and on a whim, I decided to try the ORBI. It boasted better speeds than my 4s and it should be better in range for our new townhome when we move next.
In terms of coverage; it dwarfs my old nighthawk and I don't really have the satellite that far from the base. It surges far past the end of my old nighthawk 4s.
Speeds are about the same overall, I didn't notice that large an increase in overall speed but connectivity was improved for some of my devices. So response got a small improvement for my smart lighting and Roku.
Setup in traditional Netgear style took only a mere 10 mins of guided set-up. Easily done by anyone even with little experience.
Overall this is a good option for consumers who don't want to hardwire in wireless access points all over their house but want a coverage that just a single router can't provide.

I was still using the Apple Airport Extreme. Still getting decent speeds but having more frequent issues. Researched all different routers mesh and the standard ones. Thought this set up offered the best for what I wanted.
Set up wasn't as straight forward as I expected. Took a little bit of tinkering. Nothing major. The steps are pretty straight forward but I Was having slight issues. Once it was up an running haven't had any issues. Speed have doubled and no connectivity issues. I like the app and the info I get from it. Flexibility is nice and being able to shut off specif devices is nice. Also able to fully cover my house and where I had issues with a ring doorbell that has now been corrected. Also like that I am able to plug some devices directly in to the nodes which is nice. Really pleased with this purchase.

I'm wavering between 3 and 4 stars because this system has been both very good and very frustrating.
The setup is easy, the range and signal strength are great and the app is very useful. This wouldn't be quite so frustrating if powering them on and off or rebooting them from the app would work, but so far that hasn't. It seems the only way to get them to work again is to completely start over from scratch and go through the setup process all over again.
With that said, I'm giving this 4 stars and recommending it because it's probably worth giving it a shot. I have a satellite internet provider, and I don't know anyone else who has this provider, so it's possible that is the problem.

I wanted a WiFi system that was easy to setup, had great range, showed a single WiFi name on all devices and could be expanded if needed. The Orbi AC3000 fit the bill on all accounts. I had it up and running in under 30 minutes with easy to follow instructions, the range is amazing with strong signal strength throughout the entire house, including our back patio and garage.

The Orbi router is an excellent router that does an excellent job of extending WiFi range. Thanks to the satellite unit, we've managed to go from two bars to a solid five bars in the far corner of the house.
The setup started smoothly and easily with a window popping up automatically, but it crashed about a third of the way through the process. Continuing the process through the Chrome web browser using the URL included in the box allowed me to finish it, but again the browser would inexplicably give a “No connection” error and require refreshing at several points. After completing the setup, don’t be alarmed when your internet connection vanishes during the firmware update. They don’t give you any warning, but it’s supposed to do that. It should come back in a few minutes.
Both the router and the satellite have a surprisingly large number of ethernet ports on them. It seems strange that a device designed to offer an expanded wireless network would support so many wired connections, but I’m certainly not complaining. Both units also have USB ports, but the documentation on how to make use of them is non-existent.
Supposedly additional features are still being added, and hopefully a future firmware / software update will allow use of the USB ports and guest settings. At present the Netgear Genie software (downloaded separately from their site as the window prompt to install it crashed upon clicking it) just gives an overview of the network and offers a handful of administrative tools.
The Orbi is a solid router with a lot of potential. The software isn’t quite there yet, but the hardware hints at great things to come.

Netgear hit it out of the park with the Orbi. It's much better than the competitor products like Google Wi-Fi. It competes along side with the Linksys Velop and the Eero Pro.
I liked the simple set up process and the fact that only two devices can cover a 3000sq/ft home. The only issues I encountered were Android related and Netgear took care of those issues with a System Update. I have upwards of 40 devices on my personal network and it has no issues keeping up. The only downside to the Orbi however is the price of an additional satellite if you ever need to buy another one. You might as buy the 3 pack instead of the 2 pack.
Highly recommend it! It was the highest reviewed by SmallNetBuilder and that influenced my selection quite a bit.

The Orbi system looks great and works as advertised. The range is excellent, and the signal strength is superb.

Setup was easy and obvious with great instructions.

I bought this device on the recommendation from the store Manager and one of his best techs! I owned the luma system and the system was horrible, poor speeds, always dropping, horrible customer service....needles to say, it was a horrible system. I pleaded with them since luma did not back up their product. Anyhow, the manager brought me to his best tech and he actually educated me on the choices available based on my needs. I never realized I had 25+ devices in my home. The speed of my internet is enough for the devices usage. He brought me to the routers and recommended Orbi (2 pack). He assured me this would be enough. In my mind I wanted to buy the 3 pack, but he was certain two would solve my issue. Well, let me tell you it has! The system is easy enough to set up and the speeds are just as it the devices were connected directly to the router. Now, that is wha you need. The only thing is, they released an update that must be installed to get the best of the device. I needed to call support and it was 1, 2, 3. This is a buy recommendation. I did not give it 5 stars because there is always room for improvement and I cannot wait to see what they come up with. But truth is 5 stars!

Soooo, first things first. Netgear is a rock solid company for routers (namely the Blackhawk brand) as well as other gaming network equipment. Pretty much for me, Asus sold me on their equipment (migrating from a RT-AC68U that served me well for almost 7 years!!!). It was time for something new, plus I had spotty service on the 5ghz band at the opposite end of the house & couldn't seem to get a T Mobile WiFi-calling router to "mesh" - (my network would see it as an access point , but I guess Ai-Mesh on THAT model wasn't supported...)
The Good
-I pay for Gig speed from Comcast, so streaming 4k content is NEVER a problem for me. I also ran some Belden cat 6 drops in my crawlspace to utilize ethernet back-haul. For gaming, most gamers swear by wired connections over WiFi due to latency concerns. The Orbi satellite shines here: WiFi connections are saturating 385-475/Mbps down & 32-46/Mbps up - 8-12 ping; ethernet connections: 780-972/Mbps down & 36-41/Mbps up 6-11 ping. (BTW: the wifi results are sampled from a Lenovo T400 running Ubuntu on the 5GHz band behind a closed door...). The Orbi satellite saw & utilized the ethernet back-haul & my daughter is VERY happy playing Call of Duty on her Ipad Pro.
- The IOS App is pretty nifty too, letting you see all the clients connected as well as disconnect them at will, monitor bandwidth, etc.
- Setup pretty much is a snap too. The directions are pretty foolproof. The adjustments on the other hand...
The Bad
- All went well for roughly 4 days. Then, we started to notice a nose dive in speed on the satellite. After doing some extensive research, two things were discovered. One) separate your networks 2.4 from 5Ghz. The only way I was able to accomplish this is enabling telnet services in win 10. Two) Change the broadcast channel on the 5Ghz band to 6 from auto, if it isn't already. These two fixes stabilized our mesh network speed threshold. These tweaks should be able to be accomplished out the box. (I was easily able to secure these adjustments on my RT-AC68U...WITHOUT A FIRMWARE UPDATE!!!)
Closing thoughts
All in all, I'm happy-ish with the Orbi. Netgear (if you're listening!!!) make separating the 2.4 & 5Ghz band easier, as well as other advanced adjustments. This unit is pretty much overkill for our square footage (we have a 1200 sq ft ranch...this unit is rated for 5000). I LOVED my old Asus 68u, but I couldn't even dream of achieving the WiFi throughput I have now throughout the house. It's great...but you're REALLY gonna need to know how to navigate telnet for everything to work right. Good Luck!!!

Bought it to replace my old router that was constantly giving us abslow connnection or kicking us off and us having to connect the wifi over and over. Set up for this one was real easy, I thought this was gonna be an all day thing but it only took maybe an hourvto ser it up and then reconnect all the devices. And the connection has been great, it doesnt lag anymore. Nor do we get kicked off the wifi signal. It's great, i definitely woul recommend.
