I read the review like everyone else...great, five-star reviews from some, and terrible one-star review from others. The guy at Best Buy said what people don't realize is the speed you get from these is dependent on a few things: 1. What speed you pay for from your provider (that's obvious.) 2. If the circuit you are plugging the powerline adapter into is "crowded" - meaning you run a lot of other electronics/appliances simultaneously. 3. If they are plugged into outlets on the same circuit breaker they work best (to me this seems silly - you probably would not use these from two locations all within one circuit breaker!)
Anyway, my son had frequent disconnect issues with the Xbox because the modem/router is upstairs and the Xbox is downstairs in our house. The powerline adapter totally fixed that problem. Speed tests show that the power line adapters provide enough Mbps for most gaming needs.
So for $80 I solved the problem quickly, didn't spend twice as much on a Moca or Mesh solution. I probably could have tried the TP Link for $25 less, but I like Netgear products generally.

Purchased for a sibling that suddenly in a work at home scenario because of the COVID pandemic. The devices performed as expected and needed. Successfully extended broadband connectivity and much improved performance compared to WiFi.
Setup was straightforward and took less than 15 minutes.
The compute has been moved to a different room in the house and the adapter relocated without issue.

I was having issues both with an older wireless router and another brand's powerline adapter with pass through plug. I purchased a new Wireless router and upgraded my existing powerline units with four 500 mbps with two with pass through outlets of the same brand (different from the first set I had). They were a bear to get connected simultaneously. We had to improve our powerline adapters. I investigated and bought two of these Netgears with pass through outlets and once I did powerline issues went away!
They connected and synced immediately. Ethernet internet speeds increased (enough to be noticeable).
Yes they may be a bit more costly, but man do these things work!

My router lives downstairs, my gaming area and consoles are upstairs. I was at the brink of throwing my controller at my TV because of lag during key periods in games, but alas! These Powerline ethernet adapters saved my TV (and my wallet) from their utter demise. After reading reviews on how to deal with my lag even though I was using the highest speeds of WiFi and tried every other solution aside from getting a pro gaming router, I read about these bad boys and decided to buy them, hoping they would do what they say. They are essentially like hard wiring my console via ethernet, but without having to run wires all the way upstairs from my router. They are a GOD SENT & they are easy to set up and understand.

I recently moved from a house that was wired for CAT5 to one that is not. Although I have a wireless N router, I wanted a wired option for more reliable VPN, video streaming, and file sharing/backups to a home NAS. I purchased two 2-packs of the PL1200 (4 devices) using a mover's coupon.
I will mention that NetGear Genie allows you to see the PowerLine devices on the network map, however, it does not provide you with configuration options at the moment. I understand this will be included in a future release. In the meantime, I am utilizing TP-Link's PowerLine Utility to view the transfer rates and modify the configuration of the devices (name/password). This is not necessary, however, as all four devices recognized each other immediately after plugging into the wall socket. The devices will go into a power save mode when they are not being used.
The TP-Link utility reports a rate of ~250 Mbps between devices on the same circuit. Across circuits, I see a rate of ~150 Mbps. This has been consistent for about 3 weeks. The wiring and breaker box are circa 1990's and have the three prong grounded outlets that these devices require. I am using either CAT-5e or CAT-6 networking cables and gigabit switches for other wiring. The primary PowerLine device is connected to a Verizon FiOS Gateway router, the other devices are connected to switches servicing 3 computers, Xbox, NAS. While this isn't the 1200 Mbps advertised, it is sufficient to fully utilize my 75/75 Mbps FiOS connection.
Speed tests run from each PowerLine device were ~90/90 Mbps. They provide a stable connection for VPN and streaming content to the Xbox. In testing, I was able to run two VPNs simultaneously and stream Netflix without any hiccups. It would be nice for a faster transfer rate to the home NAS for backups, however, I am still able to use the NAS for streaming music and videos.
Some gripes I have are: 1) to utilize an outlet, you must plug the device into the bottom outlet which is a problem for outlets that are wired to a switch, it would be nice if the PowerLine could be turned to use top or bottom outlet 2) larger plugs, such as a AC power adapter, will not fit in the top plug when the PowerLine is plugged in, you may want to consider the passthrough version if this is a problem, 3) these are somewhat pricey for the performance compared to competitors online.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase. These give me similar performance to the CAT5 wiring in my old house and were simple to install. You may want to shop around for models with better performance ratings or better software support.

Super easy to use and a good alternative to drilling through your walls to run Ethernet cabling. Works great and easy to setup. You just have to make sure you plug in the devices directly to the socket and not a power strip. Also if you’re trying to get Ethernet on a second floor or basement. I may not work or in my case the speeds are half of what’s listed on the box. Still worked for me in the second floor but just be aware.

So easy even a 70 year old can install. Worked great from the moment it was installed. Getting ALL the speed my provider is sending. It took about 2 minutes to install and that was mostly walking between rooms! Computer instantly knew it wasn't on WI FI any longer.

I need this because my PC is across the house. So I brought it due to the internet speed that it can connect. Setup is very easy but only issue is that if there is any interference like wireless phone charger or it’s hooked up to a power surge protector, it will light up amber instead of green. That is the issue I had. Is it worth it, yes.

Setup couldn't be easier. Just plug them both in; as long as they're on the same circuit, it just works, and is just as fast as a local wired connection. You have to make sure both devices are on the same circuit - but there are indicator lights to confirm this.

Dead zone no more! I have a strange configuration to my house and wifi is not strong in some areas as opposed to others. Signal boosters did not seem to work or worked for a bit then stopped. My son was always complaining his computer had a weak signal. My only solution was to run the ethernet wires up through the attic and down into the room which I did not want to do. These adapters worked perfectly and simply with no mess or fuss. Easy to install. You can add up to fifteen adapters to one system. My son has a strong signal and life is good.

This device is a game changer! Have a computer that is only ethernet and don't want to route a cable around the house to hardwire to the router. This device was quick and easy to install to send internet anywhere where we have electrical outlets. It also seems as fast as when I was wiring direct to the router.
Note that this is a three prong plugin so if you need to use it with extension cord then you need one that accepts three prong plug.

I got these powerline adapters because I don't have cat5 cable running through the house. It's not much to look at. You get 2 adapters and 2 Ethernet cables. Setup is plug and play. Simply plug them in, connect your gear, and off you go. As for my setup, I have a computer and printer hard wired to my Apple router. Since the satellite box does not have wireless, I connected the powerline adapter to the third port on the router, then plugged the other one behind the entertainment center. They work like a champ, no problems whatsoever. I plan to get a switch because I will likely be getting other internet enabled devices in the future.

The Powerline 1200 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter works great. Plugged it into the wall power receptacle at both ends then network cable to my router/switch on one side and network cable onto my computer. Waited a couple of minutes for devices to sync and my PC was on the network at 1GB speed. Beats WiFi connection anytime. I have been using this device for 6 months or so with out any issues. This is the second set purchased. Currently 3 PCs + (Router) are attached and all are talking at 1GB speed.

Netgear product has worked well for us. This order replaces our Powerline 200 Mini Adapter. The Powerline 1200 has three prongs, so I had to plug in at outlets I hadn't previously used. The builder installed one outlet upside down/ground at the top. The powerline couldn't be plugged in on top because it's controlled by the wall switch. The other outlet shared the Furman power conditioner so both plugs didn’t fit. I ordered online, received delivery and plugged in same day. What excellent service. Thank you.

I was a bit concerned at first with going with power line adapters, especially for a critical network device. I purchased two sets to extend network coverage in an office building and for a home office. Both applications worked really well. Plug and Play simple. As far as latency is concerned, used this for a VoIP telephone with a hosted PBX solution. It worked great, low latency(<10ms), no jitter, and HD voice. The other was to extend network connectivity to a laptop that streamed HD video feed. Again low latency, no jitter, and perfect audio, video, with zero lag.

So I am currently using this for gaming and it works great. The internet we have isn't the best so I still get some lost packets, but I wouldn't blame that on the Powerline adapter. Overall, I am able to game in a room that the wifi doesn't reach and if I had more money to spend I would've bought the Powerline adapter that transmits a wifi signal as well! Also, it is really easy to set up.

Unfortunately, the 1200Mb/s speed advertised on the box is purely theoretical. This product never broke 100Mb/s for me. However, that is not the fault of the product. Powerline Ethernet sends an Ethernet signal through the powerlines in a building. Unfortunately, this is not a reliable means of transmitting data, and transmissions over even short distances can have significantly lower data rates than a purely Ethernet or AC Wi-Fi network.
After trying a multitude of different outlets, I was able to get the connection to a whopping 80Mb/s, which I then split between two users via a switch. 40Mb/s is still 5MB/s, which isn't terrible by any means, but it's still nowhere near the 1200Mb/s (150MB/s) theoretical limit that this product advertises.
The advantages of this product are that it's rock-solid reliable (FAR better than a WiFi connection) with far lower latency. However, it simply can't compete in terms of speed with an AC Wi-Fi connection.
Overall, I'd recommend it for applications in which you don't care as much about speed as you do about latency and reliability.

I have used Powerline Ethernet for several years but with more and more movie streaming and gaming system use I decided to upgrade a couple to higher speed. They work as advertised and I am able to stream movies, data and games seamlessly. The caveat is that these don't seem to work with older versions, even from Netgear. My intent was to buy two and I ended up buying four for this reason. So, they work great but don't expect them to work with older powerline adapters.
