Very easy to set up, easy to use, nice design & button layout, nice build quality, great price! This will my second dash cam. The first one was a very very cheap no-name brand that was not worth using due to poor instructions, poor video quality and poor battery life. The Nextbase 320xr is my second one and I could immediately see when unboxing that it was way better than my previous. This one looks better built and controls/buttons laid out nicely. Installing pretty easy and did not require any special skills. It is fairly easy to operate and has good video record quality (1080p) for an entry level brand name dash cam. This dash cam is great for having a record of an accident, backing up & parking, and basic dash cam functions. I could read another cars license plate when close enough. This seems to be a great price for a dash cam that offers this quality. I LOVE that the included magnetic mounts allow for quick & easy mounting/dismounting and the rear camera wire was long enough for my 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. Comparing this dash cam to others in the price range, the 320xr delivers good quality with minimal features. It seems that a dash cam with advanced features will cost considerably more. I looked at others in this price range and this one seems to be the better choice if your not looking for a fully featured dash cam with gps, wifi, etc. Everything needed for installation is in the box including 3m brand adhesive already attached to cameras. Note: You MUST use a U3 type SD card with this dash cam. Nextbase recommends their brand.

Good dashcam combo that will not break the bank

The Nextbase 320XR is an easy to use dashcam with practically any setup. Take it out of the box, do a quick initial setup and pretty much install it in the car. In the box you even get a pryer to remove your vehicle panels for a more professional installation look. This dashcam comes with a rear camera and the cable provided to attach it is very long. The dashcam can record at 1080@30fps, 720@FPS and 720@60fps. With the rear camera connected you can record either from 1080 and 720 but only at 30FPS. The image quality for both cameras are very good and clear. The night time recordings are extremely clear as well even when it's raining.
One down side of this dashcam is that it doesn’t have internal storage, if it does I could not find any information about it, you will have to install an SDcard which is sold separately. Manufacturer recommends (not a must) using their own brand SDcards which are sold from $14.99 to $99.99 depending on the storage size you choose.
The mounting that is provided takes minimal space on your windshield which is nice. The thing I personally don't like is that they have to be glued. I own another Nextbase camera 322GW which has been phenomenal to me. The great thing is that my previous mount used a suction cup, this mount works perfectly with this 320XR. I did have to glue the rear camera to the windshield. Unlike my previous dashcam, this one does not have Wifi, so I cannot extract videos wirelessly using the Nextbase mobile app. You have to connect the dashcam or the SDcard directly to your PC and use the Nextbase media player to extract the videos. The sound recorded through both cameras are loud and clear just as good as the images.
The 2.5 IPS HD screen is bright and clear enough to see your videos. You can choose to see different views, front, rear or both. The display is not touch enabled, you have to use the physical buttons. Overall this is a great camera that records high quality clear videos and good sound quality. It comes in a minimal discrete size and it is easy to use. It also has a parking mode that is active with motion. In the box you get the dashcam, rear camera, mounting, power cable, USB cable, rear cam extension cable, window sticker, pryer and manuals.

A great dash cam bundle!

The Nextbase 320XR is a very convenient dash cam bundle. It has a front camera and a rear camera which pretty much enables you to feel secure when you drive. But ;let tell you first that this is nota 4K camera but a 1080P or FHD camera. Still that is very good quality and you’re not making a vlog but rather capturing events in case of an accident. So 1080p or FHD is sufficient enough. The Nextbase 320XR records in MP4 format which is practically universal and there is no need for special software to view MP4 files though Nextbase provides support for video in your computer. But being in MP4 format, I have on tried nor used it since I have my own preferred software. But for those who are curious, Nrxtbase has the MyNextbase Player. This is only for PC though. But Nextbase also offers the free MyNextbase Cloud service which is both available for PC and Mac OS. Again, I have preference for my own video editing software. (But obviously I would prefer not to use any as that would mean being involved in an accident.)
Having a rear camera is quite useful especially if you have an older model car. Not only does it record events while driving, it also acts as a rear view camera when backing up. It has a mode options wherein you can have PIP (Picture-in-picture) either on the left or right sides. It can also switch from front camera to rear view camera only modes to.
Installation is fairly simple. The front mount is installed via a 3M sticker wherein you connect the main camera via magnet. (A spare sticker mount is also provided.) A USB power port connected through your car’s cigarette lighter port. A separate internal power source is also available from Nextbase but that may require professional installation. So it’s more practical to just use your cigarette lighter port.
The rear view camera port also has a mount with a 3M sticker and is also magnetic so you can attach the rear camera. It is powered by a provided wire. A push tool is also provided to make it easier to hide the wires in your car’s edges.
One feature I like about this camera too is the inclusion of an intelligent parking mode which can detect motion when parked and eventually capture video. This is very useful if you encounter a hit and run accident when your car is parked.
Overall, I am satisfied with this camera and I have owned this for around two weeks now. I have not encountered any issues with it. I would definitely recommend this camera to all.

Pretty good basic front and rear dash cams

Nextbase has been making dash cams for a while, and I would consider this combo sort of an entry level model.
Out of the box you get the dash cams (Front/Rear), power cables for both, a cable fitting cable (To strategically help push in the power cables throughout the door lining of your vehicle to hide them), a windshield mount for the front dash cam, a USB cable for the intial charge, and a micro SD card.
So some of the high points is that it's fairly easy to install both. Insert the micro SD card. After charging the front dash cam, install the mount using the provided 3M adhesive. (I took the liberty of ordering a compatible suction mount as trying to get a 3M adhesive is more work than I would like to do if it ever breaks). Once you set up your wiring throughout your vehicle, plug on end to a power outlet, and the other to the dash cam. It's that simple. You have a touch screen which makes setting up the dash cam very simple, and easy to navigate.
The rear camera was a bit trickier. A good way to approach it is to have your trunk/tailgate open if you have a SUV. This way you know how much slack you will need to provide. This will help better fit the power cable so that you can better plan how to hide it.
The quality of the video was hit or miss for me. The resolution is 1080p at 30 FPS or 720 at 60 FPS. I wish there was the sweet spot of 1080p at 60 FPS. I understand that at this price point that's asking too much I guess. There were times on a beautiful sunny day that I was able to clearly see the info on the car in front of me about 7 feet away. On a foggy or cloudy day, the information was less visible. This is crucial if you're in an accident and the driver who hit you drives away and your dash cam couldn't show the information because of lack of sun. For the most part, it was pretty good quality.
I had more consistency with the rear camera. The video showed virtually all of the captured video in crisp high quality. My tailgate window is tinted so you can't even tell that there's a camera there. The front camera is more noticeable, but I placed it as close as I could to the rearview mirror as seen in the photo.
One of the best features is the intelligent park mode. When you park your car and turn off the ignition, the only thing that's kept on is the G Force sensor. What this means is that if your car is hit, the cameras will start rolling and hopefully you can call the police if the camera were able to clearly identify the persons who performed the hit and run.
All in all, it's a nice entry dash cam combo as mentioned. I wish it came with a suction cup mount as an added option for both the front and rear. I was able to buy the one for the front for $10. This also allows it so be easily moved if your car is sold or totaled in an accident. It would have been awesome if it was 1080p for 60 FPS. These days 30 FPS is if you're running 4K, so the quality is a bit dated.

I have been using the Nextbase 320XR Dash Cam for the last few weeks and have really enjoyed how easy it is to use after it's setup. They include all of the essentials you would need to get started and an extra windshield mounting plate for a second vehicle! The cables are all plenty long enough to route inside of panels or through barriers, the 3M mounting goo is very sticky but also forgiving enough to re-place at least two times in a few days and stay sturdily attached to the glass. The device itself is much smaller than I thought it would be, which is excellent to be able to "hide" it behind the rearview mirror, and can have the display turned off while moving. The initial setup of the software is nice and intuitive, but some of the menu items are only available in certain mode and there is no way to connect the dash cam to a phone or computer for easily setup and uploading. The video quality is more than sufficient for having viewable imagery after an incident and easy to offload with the quickly removeable micro-SD card. My only real issue is the incident/crash/sudden stop detection is very touchy, as in it will be extremely sensitive on one trip and barely responsive on another. Not a huge issue, but something I just didn't enjoy, but at the lowest setting it at least seems to be a little better.
Overall, I'd still recommend it for the daily commuter for a good price. Solidly built unit, easy to setup, and doesn't overheat!

Compact, easy to install, easy to manage videos

Nextbase™ 320XR Dash Cam & Rear Window Camera. After trying a number of competitor dash cams, I’m now fully satisfied with this newest Nextbase 320XR. The 320XR requires all video management to take place on your computer. There is no Wi-Fi to phone connectivity. If you prefer doing video management on your camera/tablet, you’ll want to keep looking. Not me. I’m very satisfied. I ONLY want to manage my videos on my PC (Mac Laptop, to be clear). The Nextbase App for the Mac (and presumably the PC) is remarkably easy to use. It has a full set of video management features. And, considering how cumbersome a phone filled with short video clips of your daily drives might be, Nextbase’s file management, labelling and viewing features makes it all easy to accomplish on your personal PC. YOUR preference for video management will influence your satisfaction.
SETUP: The instructions are all well done pictographs, but I immediately dowloaded the even more useful online manual. The suggested download of the PC App revealed there was updated software. So, that’s now installed. A search for a firmware updated showed I was already using the newest version. Make sure you buy a MicroSD (UC3 or Class 10 128GB max) card at the same time you buy the camera. Larger card capacity determines how frequently the internal video recorder loops back and begins to overwrite older video data. Make sure you charge the internal battery for a couple of hours. The camera requires full-time hard-wired power to operate, but the battery allows for the parked car features.
This newest Nextbase 300XR has hard buttons on both sides of the screen for easy access to the MENU and basic settings. Basic settings include speed units, Recording sound, On/Off, screen dimming, Auto Power, Format SD card. A Video setting menu sets resolution (1080p default), exposure level, video (clip) length (1,2,3 minutes), Time Stamp, Speed stamp, GPS stamp. model stamp, dual (H/L) quality, Time Lapse, your number plate (default off), G sensor sensitivity (trigger for file protection), Alerts, Recording History, Parking mode.
OPERATION and PERFORMANCE: The camera and its mount are as small as they come, with the mount attaching to the windshield using an effective adhesive plate / magnetic hold system. The camera itself uses a magnet design so removing/attaching the camera to its permanent mount is easy.
Video recording is the default mode. You’ll capture everything in a 140 degree wide view out in front of your vehicle. You can review, edit, and save clips directly on the camera screen. or by using the wonderful NEXTBASE PLAYER APP for your computer. The Dash Cam can function as a card reader on a Mac or you can pull the memory card from the camera and use a (not provided) memory card holder. See my pictures along with this review. The App will pull in files from the camera, either individually or as groups of files. Files are fairly easy to identify by DATE. A long trip can be represented by a lengthy list of files (both front and rear camera. You select the file length in the camera MENU. You can choose 1,2, or 3 minutes clip size.
Everything you enabled in your camera settings is now on the screen underneath the very detailed video image on your computer screen. The speed and other travel conditions are illustrated on a speedometer, a GPS readout, a compass, and a map! It’s all here, waiting for you to select, or trim, or edit, or annotate, add titles, or zoom or save to a shareable file. It’s all pretty impressive. I wish regular video editing was this easy.
SUMMARY: This very reasonably priced Nextbase 322GW is a richly featured dash cam that will meet the needs of most end users. I’m not in that group of techies that uses the phone for everything, so I don’t miss the phone-based management of video files. I’m laptop based, and much prefer capturing videos directly from the camera (using provided USB cable) or ejecting the microSD card from the camera and using my card reader. I love the simplicity, reliability, and usability of the Nextbase 320XR DashCamera and its companion rear window camera. The PC App is without peer. I can recommend this Dash Cam but those of you who rely exclusively on a phone/tablet will need to look to the other models from Nextbase. I’ve scheduled a more permanent installation with the Best Buy folks.

Exceeded My Expectations

SETUP:
Setup for this device is relatively straightforward but can also be time consuming depending on your car. First, they recommend you charge the device for two hours and to make sure it has the most up to date firmware. Mine did. The battery is meant to last for 15 minutes of recording. It only has a battery so when you turn off your vehicle it can turn itself off and for the parking assist. So, it’s meant to have constant power during recording. Second, it comes with a quick start guide which gives you very basic instructions on how to install it. I went with the way they recommended by installing it behind my rear-view camera and then doing the wiring through my passenger side to the rear camera. It probably took an hour to tuck wires in correctly as my stuff is super tight and the wire was just a bit too thick to place it in most places. But the little tool they give you helped A TON. Anyways, once setup is complete it’s easy to attach or detach the camera(s). As both are held together via strong magnets. They also move easily to adjust them but are also stiff enough that they aren’t going to go anywhere accidentally. The 3m sticking tape also worked well and the wires were plenty long but I have a small sedan. So absolutely no complaints here. They recommend keeping the settings on default. I found this to be accurate. As it did a fantastic job at correctly portraying the driving conditions as the camera could see everything I could see.
PROS:
• Setup is relatively straight forward and easy.
• It handles glare well.
• Choice to record files in 1, 2, or 3 minute increments. It comes default at 1 as they report it is a manageable size that you can download and send to insurance if needed.
• Automatically deletes the oldest file to make room for new recordings so you don’t have to monitor how full it is. But they do recommend formatting the SD card every fortnight (14 days).
• Three modes. Video, photo, and playback. I suppose the photo mode is for taking picture of damage if needed. But I’d also take photos with your smartphone (as that camera is likely superior).
• Automatic start/stop tech works well.
• Magnets are very strong and won’t be disconnecting on accident. They probably won’t even come off in case of an actual accident.
• G Sensor works well. Mine activated a few times due to wind. But you can adjust how sensitive it is in the settings.
• 1080p 30 fps for both cameras. Front camera looks better than the back camera. Records in mp4 format. I find 1080p to be solid. I can read most signs, and if I’m close can read most license plates. But if the lighting isn’t ideal, they are far away, or it is nighttime I can’t.
• Screen is 732x240x RGB 720. It looks good and I have no complaints.
• Buttons feel solid and navigation is relatively straight forward.
• Has a rechargeable battery.
• Wide viewing angle of 140 degrees.
• “Click and Go Powered Mount” is excellent and works extremely well. I’m very impressed.
• If something is registered by the “G Sensor” it will automatically protect the file stopping it from being overwritten. This can also be done manually by pressing the big button on the bottom of the device.
• If enabled, intelligent Parking Mode will automatically turn on when it detects motion.
• Built in microphone/speaker sound alright. Perfectly usable.
• Can adjust the picture in picture mode to be left, right, rear off, or rear full screen. Done by pressing the power button.
• Two LEDS. One is blue to show if charging and will be off when charged. Second is red when powered on or flashing when recording.
• Quick button to mute or unmute.
• Can have both front and back cameras that are made to work with each other, and it does it brilliantly.
• It does a great job at reproducing what the conditions actually are over making them appear better or worse. For example if I’m having a hard time seeing due to glare or the sun, the camera portrays that really well.
• Night mode does a good job at seeing what you the driver is seeing. Instead of giving you insane night vision like my security cameras.
• I was able to pull up files on macOS, Windows, and iPadOS without any issues. I didn’t even have to download the software. Which was my preferred method.
• Comes with software where you can edit files if needed.
CONS:
• It doesn’t come with an SD card. They recommend using a NextBase branded SD card.
• Not waterproof. Not that it needs to be.
• Picture quality while great for 1080p is limited and I can’t always read license plates. I can read them most of the time, but if far away, glare, or at night the pixel density isn’t good enough. But I can read signs easily for the most part.
• NextBase watermark can’t be removed on recordings (or at least I didn’t figure out how).
• Software takes a learning curve and seems overwhelming upon first opening. Seems more complicated than it actually is. But is a nice resource if you don’t have editing software already.
STATEMENTS THAT I FOUND INTERESTING:
• They report 1 pixel failure per year is considered normal. Interesting. I didn’t know that.
• They report publication of the recording on YouTube, the internet, or other methods are subject to Data Protection Act and need to be adhered too. Also, if using in a truck CCTV Regulation as well as Protection Act applies. So, may want to look into that before using it for that.
• Dash cam isn’t supported to operate outside of -4 to 113F. Where I live during the summer or winter that can be an issue. So, maybe bring it inside with you on days you think it will be very hot or very cold to save the battery.
• Comes with a rechargeable lithium Polymer 3.7V/280 mAh battery that has a 15 minute recording time for auto power off function in the event of power loss. Not as an alternative power source to replace the supplied car adapter.
• They say to make sure to turn off the camera before plugging in the rear camera.
CONCLUSION:
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this device. But I REALLY like it. Setup and use is easy and it just “works”. I didn’t have to do any tinkering past initial setup. Most things are intuitive and easy to figure out. It makes me feel “safe” when driving because if something were to happen, I would have video which brings a lot of peace of mind. As A. that can be used for insurance, B. Can get me out of something that may not be my fault, and C. Probably the most important, allows me to go back and see what I did wrong to ensure I don’t make the same mistake the next time instead of having to just go off memory. Also, it can be a fun device to just note how many crazy and silly things you see while driving and show your friends. For me this is an easy recommendation!

Nextbase 320XR is a straight forward and rearview setup to record your driving and those that may come in contact with you. Great HD quality video and a nice microphone that hears all music and voice interactions inside the vehicle. No GPS or WiFi, but just like suction cup mounts. You don't need it.
Setup is quick and easy. Nice sticky pads and magnets to hold cameras in place securely (1 spare sticky pad for the main camera is included). Charge camera for a few hours. Run the wires by hiding them in the vehicle trim with included tool. Insert SD card up to 128GB (not included), format when camera asks. Set up time and date stamp if you want. Choose to record audio with video, or not. Go for a drive! 20-40 minutes and it's installed, if you choose to hide the wires.
Day and night image quality is far better than expected for only being 1080 HD quality. Colors might be a bit over saturated. Playback on my big tv. Recordings are extremely clean and even license plates can be read at about 10-15+ ft. Just hit pause anywhere during playback and you get photo quality images on every second of video. Videos are MP4 file format that almost all media players can play. NextBase does offer a nice player for free download if you need one. I included a few sample images without license plates. While these are pictures from my phone of my tv...you should still be able to see how great the images are with this dashcam.
For those technically challenged. Setup and operation is easy. You won't need a technician or tech savvy grandchild to use this dashcam. High quality images that can be played back almost anywhere and easily shared with insurance or social media. There is even a big lock/record video button to save recordings right under the screen. And if you are curious about SD cards. I used a Samsung High Endurance 32GB card that looks to copy about 4 total hours of front and rear video (in 1, 2 or my personal choice, 3 minute segments). So, if you have a 1 hour round trip commute. 32GB card should last 4 days before rewriting the old videos.
Tips I would like to add:
Day 1: Charge the camera like it says to. I didn't and the rear camera didn't record video on the first drive to work. I think not charging first is why. All cameras have been fine ever since.
Day 1: Choose to record audio with video. Doing so might be embarrassing if you sing along as you drive. But, in case of an incident (crash, traffic stop). You can push the lock recording button then speak/narrate to the camera and record what the camera may not be able to see like license plate info and other things to either side of the cameras view. It helps for later playback and could be useful for more than just you.
And remember. This will record everyone's bad driving...including yours!

I like this 320xr front and rear dashcam kit. It's simple to install and get setup and working. The rear cam has a 18' keyed cable that plugs into the front cam, and connects to the mount magnetically. Both cams record in either 1080p or 720p, but no combination of both.
The video quality Is very clear whether day or night footage. I'm currently using this setup with 256gb micro sd card for storage. The front cam can either be mounted via suction cup or 3m double sided tape. I went the hard wire kit route, as I wanted to take advantage of the cams Park Feature.
These cams have no Bluetooth or wifi built in so no smartphone features, like most of Nextbases other cams offer. So to review footage on you sd card, you'll have to remove the sd card and insert it into a laptop or desktop, which is a pain.
I really wish this was capable of using the smartphone app. My other complaint is I wish the rear mount had a steadier mount like the front vs magnetic. But, all in all this is a nice setup for the cost, I would reccomend this setup to anyone on the fence.

I was excited to try this out and see what it has to offer. Well it's didn't last long kinda disappointed in the features of the NEXTBASE. I have seen the demo's on the Nextbase dashcams and they all had good things to say about them. But this one falls short of anything great. Start off the camera is small witch is nice it doesn't take a large space on the the windshield and it hides behind my mirror out of sight. I didn't get the interior camera i just got the front and rear camera kit. This was very easy to assembly and hide all the wires didn't take long. The rear camera is small and on a magnet base so it kinda floats a little to be in place.
The camera is in 4K witch i have to to say is a nice picture clean and very easy to see the footage. This does take a 4K SD card you do have to program it for the camera use that is an extra step witch isn't the best because you just want to put it in place and go. My other cameras never had me do that. This does come with the Micro card witch they didn't send with the unit i had to have them ship it out took a few days to get it.
I don't like that this is not able to connect to my phone to see the videos. You have to play it back on the unit or on the PC not very helpful. That is something i will be looking for in my next dashcam. You also are limited on the menu options you can't look at the rear view to see at the the time of set-up if you have the rear camera in the o=correct spot and how much you are seeing. I have a truck it's a flat back glass and it has a sliding rear window so i cant put it in the middle of the back glass. So you can only go so far left or right to get a good look.
On the the display you can't cut the picture to show the front and rear camera at the same time witch my other cameras have done and i really liked.
Overall not impressed with the functions of the camera and not impressed with the nexbase website not very user friendly.
I also ran into a problem with it freezing up on me and being stuck on a screen i had to let the battery die so i could go to other menu options. This also stays on all day and when i start my vehicle up it will turn off and on again. I thought it would go to sleep and turn on when it senses a bump or when turned on.
I will keep looking for a better option for my next dashcam. Also will be looking for one that will connect to my phone.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear that you experienced freezing issues, this is usually due to a non-compatible or faulty SD card being used. SD cards only have limited lifespans. In our manuals we recommend formatting every 2-3 weeks to prolong the life of the card. Without this regular formatting, or if the card is non-compatible or damaged, the card could corrupt which would cause a failure of data writing. Symptoms of SD card failure are: an audible 'alarm' tone, non-functional buttons, freezing, corrupted files on playback, image missing from files, lack of file recording etc. I'd recommend checking that your SD card is a compatible Nextbase SD card 32GB-128GB and is being regularly formatted. If you need any assistance at all, please give us a call on +1 800 2805 178 and we can troubleshoot the issue further.

It works and setup is very simple, the size is perfect and is not distracting on the windshield or rear window. I did like the fact it allowed me to setup the camera in my home (they provided a usb cable) and they recommend letting it charge for two hours. Both cameras come with a window mount (two-way tape). They seem to stick fine to the window and didn't come off during my use. Make sure the window is clean and the glass is warm. I have a small car, but the cables are very long so it should allow you to use this in a bigger car without any install issues.
The reason I gave it three stars is because I believe it is missing a key feature. The other dash cams I have allow you to connect to the camera with an app. This allows you to view the videos and make sure the camera is operating properly. It is also helpful to be able to show someone a video on your phone instead of having to remove the little memory card, put it into a computer, then sort through the videos to find the one you need. The second reason for three stars is the video quality wasn't as good as my other cameras (similar price). I will admit my car can be a little bumpy on city streets, but it seemed like the camera couldn't compensate for this and the videos were a little jumpy. When completely stopped the video seemed okay (see pictures).
This camera does do a parking mode that will record if your car gets bumped. I wasn't able to test this in my car, but when setting it up I had it on my desk, when my desk got bumped the camera turned on and started recording. I had it on the medium setting, but you can adjust for your needs. I do like this feature, but it is pretty standard on dash cams.
I for some reason cannot figure out how to turn the camera off. Its currently sitting on my desk not plugged in and I have held down the power button and the screen will go dark. Then if pickup or move the camera it turns back on. I'm assuming it never really turns off and just goes into a standby mode. I found this to be somewhat frustrating as I just wanted to turn it off so I can get the SD card out and off load the videos. So now it keeps powering on and killing the battery, currently says to connect to a charger.
This is an okay camera, and the rear-view camera is a nice bonus. I do like the brand and simplicity of how easy it was to setup. I would maybe look at spending a little more and getting one of their nicer dash cams. They have others that support viewing videos on your cell phone and have better camera optics. The rear-view camera is nice but having a good quality front facing camera I think is more important.

This is my first dash cam, I liked that it was able to record both a front and rear view at the same time. I think it’s a good camera setup if you go into it with proper expectations. It maxes out at 1080P resolution so it doesn’t capture fine enough detail to record a license plate number from more than about 30ish feet, in the daytime, if there’s no glare on the plate. At night, it’s really limited by the ambient light and your headlights. License plates were unreadable, washed out by my headlights. I think that the default exposure setting leaves video a little overexposed at night, I need to experiment with that setting a little to see if a different setting is better. That being said, the picture quality during the day is nice and it will work for my intended purpose. I will try to link to a couple short videos I posted on youtube, just search Nextbase 330XR Dash Cam Daytime Drive if the link won’t post here. I’ll add some screen grabs here at least.
I like that it has a screen in it so I can easily see the camera alignments and then there’s a button to turn the screen off so it’s not a distraction. Same for the microphone , there’s a button to mute the mic when you don’t want it on.
Nextbase has a downloadable player to view the video clips, you can also join and/or edit clips, pull screenshots, and process the clips to a .mov file to easily share or upload to youtube.
One thing to note on the install, make sure you fully insert the connectors at the rear camera or the camera won’t register. See the pic below.
Make sure to pick up a compatible micro sd card for the camera. The camera saves video in one minute long clips, if you have both the front and rear cameras connected it will save each in a separate file. The Nextbase player can stitch multiple video clips together if needed and can also edit clips for length if you need.
**Link to videos was not allowed, just use the search terms I posted.

This should be equipped in every car. I didn’t realize how much better I feel driving with a constant 2nd witness. Dash cams have been out for years but it never occurred to me that I needed one till now. Installation was easy, hiding the cords were easy, and I removed my a pillar trim (which my car was easy/some won’t be) to avoid touching or blocking my curtain air bags. When I start my car the camera automatically turns on. I believe this is because my cigarette light turns on and off with the car. If you have a constant on cigarette lighter this feature may not work. The main camera lens sticks out like a zoom lens but it’s actually to make a 140 degree view and the video quality is excellent. There’s a big red button on the bottom of the screen which you will only click if you need to protect your current video or a past video so it can’t be deleted or over written until you lock it again. There is also a button to turn off your screen so it won’t bother you while driving or at night but not stop the camera from recording. Modes allow you to have video with sound, video without sound and pictures. The reason you may not want sound to be recorded is because you may need consent from any passenger in your car if you need the video for legal reasons. Glad they thought of the mute mode. The rear camera recording provides a great almost 360 recording of your car. I was able to hide mine that no one notices. I recommend planning out where you want your cameras. I probably went out 4-5 times and just places the cameras in different areas (without actually mounting them yet) to discover where they would be out of the way, not be an eye sore in my car, and just right. I’m not a person who wants stuff stuck to my car but I found just the right places.
I highly recommend this camera and I also recommend using their nextbase micro sd card so you know your getting a memory card designed to meet the needs of your camera with speed and quality.

When I leave a review, unless it blows me out of the water right away, I try to spend a lot more time fiddling around and trying to capture all the use-case scenarios or tweaking options or the placement in hopes that maybe, just maybe, it was a PEBKAC (Problem-Exists-Between-Keyboard-and-Chair) issue. But I think I’ve honestly exhausted every reasonable option I could. This is not a great product. Nextbase is a known brand for dashcams, with some that are solid. The 320XR is a good idea that is mired by poor quality.
Let’s start off with the use-cases for why you’d want a dashcam. Everyone wants a dashcam to provide factual evidence and be free of being assigned fault in a “they-said vs you-said” scenario. This bundle has both a front dash camera as well as a tiny rear camera. Both of them are clip to and are easily detachable from the suctioned-window base via magnets. The pull feels strong and I am quite certain that in most situations, if I were to ever be hit, the cameras would not be shuffled around in its orientation and focus.
The front dashcam charges via mini-USB that has adjustable sensitivities for Parking Mode (which is quite good), support for 1080p at 30 fps, and 720p at 60 fps. While you can purchase a separate hardware kit for the dashcam to attach to your vehicle’s fuse, I recommend just trying to use the dashcam first and if you’re satisfied with it, then going out and putting in the work to hook it to your car’s fuse instead of the power socket. That would also be the time to then go about hiding the cables neatly. Speaking of which, Nextbase provides a generously long cord for its front dash cam as well as the rear dash cam.
The rear dash cam has a differently design mounting base (still magnetic). For the slope of my rear view window, I couldn’t get the camera to point downward as much as I’d like to due to the placement of the back of its cable. The rear dashcam doesn’t capture as nearly as good quality of the front dashcam (not saying much, more on that later), but you don’t need it to. If you get hit from behind, just capturing that they hit you from behind is good enough. The rear camera is attached via an extra long USB-C cable to the front dash cam.
The front dash cam is nice and small. I can hide it behind my mirror at an angle which my wife can still see as a passenger, but it is inconspicuous outward to would-be potential thieves. It has a nice display screen to show the action on the front as well as a picture-in-picture overlay of the rear camera (if you so choose to attach). You can also press a button on the side to change what is being displayed.
I used this dash cam with both a Samsung Endurance 64 GB micro-sd card as well as a Nextbase 32 GB dashcam micro-sd card. They have similar specs and realistically, the only thing that would change between the two is maybe slightly different write times and of course, the capacity sizes which allow you to record longer before the earlier videos start getting written over (unless it has been marked as protected, which the front camera has an easily accessible button to protect the last X minutes from being overwritten, useful in accidents). Nextbase recommends that you format the card every two weeks for optimal performance. Hogwash. That’s simply a waste of time.
Now on to the actual performance of the item at hand: it’s not great. The colors are fine, but the ability to see useful information, such as text, is just not there unless you and the vehicle in front of you are both standstill and basically bumper to bumper. What is the most important thing? Video quality. Sure, this dash cam is very user-friendly to use and has a lot of cool options. Again, it boasts 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 60 fps, but let’s be honest: 1080p at 30fps is the bare minimum these days. And let’s not conflate video resolution and actual image quality as the same thing. Bigger doesn’t mean better.
I don’t expect a lot for night quality so my expectations there were in-line. But for day time recording, I just thought it would be better. I re-positioned the camera many times and drove across multiple days. I checked for firmware updates (there were none), changed my SD card (which I knew wouldn’t change anything), wiped the lens clean, and even changed the resolution from 1080p (the default) to 720p at 60 fps, hoping that the smoother video would allow me to be able to pause the video slowly step through. Nothing could make the captured footage better. I recommend yelling out the license plate of the vehicle in there’s a case of accident rather than relying on this dashcam to capture it.
I’m also in the Midwest with brutally hot summers and cold winters. This dashcam doesn’t have a capacitor which is not a suggestion, but needed for these temperatures. Otherwise you’ll end up with a device that ends up dying quickly.
Pros: small, comes with both a front and rear camera, easy to detach and attach to base, parking mode has adjustable sensitivities and performed well.
Cons: Poor capture quality.
Aside: I personally don’t want an app for every device I have. This dashcam does not allow you to wireless transfer over data, so if that’s a dealbreaker for you, you’re out of luck.
Something is better than nothing, but for the price, there are other front-and-rear dashcams that go on sale often enough that are better.

Brand response from Nextbase

Hi there, thank you for your review of our Nextbase 320XR, we really appreciate the time taken to leave feedback. I would like to provide some clarity to help you and other customers reading your review to better understand the product.
The parking mode does not have adjustable sensitivity ranges and should not be confused with the G-Sensor setting, you do have the ability to adjust the G-Sensor which is designed to protect files depending on the level of sensitivity that this is set to - a higher setting means that your device will write a greater number of protected files, and a lower setting will equate to fewer files.
We recommend formatting the SD card every 2/4 weeks depending on how much you drive and it is good practice to format the card every two weeks to ensure the card keeps healthy and that any protected files are removed which are no required and allows for more files to be stored, formatting keeps the SD card from causing issues and is quite a normal process in a device that records continuously.
With regards to the video quality I would suggest contacting our specialist technical support team so that we may review this footage for you, please email [email protected] so that we can assist you further.
The 320XR is a very competent dash cam option for users that do not wish to use a smartphone for wireless data transfer, however, we do offer wireless capability with all dash cam models that feature 'W' in the model name to indicate that WIFI is enabled.
Once again, thanks for your time and I am confident this reply helps clarify a few points for you and other customers.

Nextbase - 522GW Dash Cam - Black
Summary:
A thoughtfully sized front and rear view camera to protect your vehicle.
Pros:
* Easy setup. The device is just two cameras, two mounts, and two cables. Plus in the correct receptacles and that is it! You'll need to route the cables, but that is secondary and can be done in many ways.
* Large screen lets you work with the device easily enough.
* Cable length. The included cables are sufficient for wiring up most vehicles but for the longest ones (I think). They feel sturdy and substantial.
* Optional kit for hardwire is available. Hardwiring is probably the best way to install this thing. Frees up these dumb cigarette lighter ports and reduces clutter. Though, not sure what it looks like - I will be researching/ordering one in short order.
Cons:
* Not wireless. Though I knew this from the initial specs, I do see how the wireless one would have been better for my needs. Being able to sync and manipulate using my phone makes complete sense.
* The parking mode is a bit wonky. It regularly polls state data and compares samples to determine if an event has occurs and then activates the device. Frankly, I'm just not sure it will be fast enough for say an accident or something. But I'm hoping I'll never have to find out.
Use:
I really wanted a way for my vehicle to record important incidents. The NextBase 320XR looks like it should be up to the job. "Important incidents," you ask? Things like being hit. Or an unusual bump (exerted G force). Are top examples. But also, the ability for my passenger to press a button to record perhaps an insane driver. Colorado has
a phone number than can be called to report aggressive drivers. Now I can have evidence if it is ever needed.
Overall I like this device. Though I expect my next vehicle to have this tech built-in, I think this is an acceptable retrofit that is easy on the eyes and wallet. I might spring for the wireless option with phone support for my second vehicle (which will also get one installed).

Front and rear protection

Having a dash cam gives you piece of mind and security to the unforeseen events that can happen on a daily basis. This is my second Nextbase dash cam and I really like the addition of physical buttons on this one. Though the touch screen on my first one has served me well, the small screen can be challenging at times. On the specs front, both front and rear cameras record 1080p @ 30fps and have a 2.12M pixel sensor front and .9 rear. The front has a 140 degree field of view with a 1.6 aperture while the rear is 30 and 2.5. The rear camera comes with a nice magnetic mount that makes adjustments easy, it also comes with an extra long cable that was more than sufficient for a full size four door car. When connecting the rear camera to the front, you have to make sure the front is completely powered off, you do this by holding the power button down for about 10 seconds. You’ll know it’s connected when you see the rear camera overlay on the dash cam screen. The dash cam supports up to a 128GB micro sd card, though one is not included. To view the recorded video you have to remove the SD card and use a computer. It would be nice if it had the ability to view it on your phone, this is a feature I would like to see work it’s way down from the more expensive models. Overall it’s a great option from a company you can rely on for a quality dash cam.

Nice dash cam

Very nice dash cam. It was very easy to set-up and the wires are very long so that you can use it in a variety of sized vehicles. The only thing I did not like was trying to hide the wires without using tape. I am still working on trying to figure that out. Its not too bothersome for the front camera, but the rear camera is hanging from the ceiling, which I do not prefer. The little manual that comes with it does not have a detailed description of how to wire it. Just gives you an idea of how to route it and you kind of have to figure it out. It wasn't too tricky though. I love that you can reformat right on the camera. Makes life easy. The camera works really well and the picture is pretty clear on a small screen.

I have owned many dash cams over my years as a driver. It has come very useful with accidents when folks try to lie about not admitting to being at fault. I can't rave enough about them.
Setup...
Luckily I have already setup another camera system with the same brand. It saved me from having to run the power but I had to re run the rear camera as the connector is different from the other system.
Regardless you need to make sure you plan out your wire runs and optimal location of the adhesives for the front and rear cameras. Because I was already half done it took me about 30 mins to run the rear camera wire.
Menu setup for the camera took all but 10 mins max.
Video quality is pretty good for 1080. Night vision is half decent. I ran the given software to view and it was good and easy to use.
Size of main camera screen is nice and big.
Max distance before image started to become blurry is about 20 ft at night. So you have to be pretty close to get license plates to be clear without having to do image enhancement.
1 downside to the rear camera is that even though it is magnetic and it is easy to adjust. It is also easy to knock out of place. Something to note for hatch backs or mini vans etc.
Given the overall performance and setup.
I would recommend this product.

Great Basic dashcam with a rear camera too

This is your basic dashcam, nothing special beside that it works consistently, and it has the added advantage of the rear camera. You don’t need to use the rear camera and it automatically detects when the rear camera is plugged in. The files are stored in two different areas, DCIM and locked. The locked simply means that when you hit the locked button that video it is doing and until you stop recording (saved in configurable 1 min videos) will not be overwritten. Otherwise, the other videos will be overwritten when the micro-SD card runs out of space. For reference A 64GB card will give you about 14 hours of recorded video, each 1 min video was about 75000KB each. For me a 64GB card is more than enough for how often I drive. There are different configurations, and one is park mode where it enables a sensor that turns the camera on and records for a bit and then turns off as well as automatically locking that footage. Perfect for catching that card that backs into your car while your away. The disadvantage to park mode is that it auto locks the footage which means if you leave park mode on all the time you only have locked footage and eventually, you’ll just run out of recording room. The other option is to just enable it when you are somewhere that you may be concerned about your car getting bumped. The camera does have a small internal battery for park mode. I charged the camera up overnight and then put it in a high traffic area to see how long the battery would last. It lasted about 30 min turning on and off constantly. After that it would power up, say low battery and power down. Plenty of battery for a car not getting constantly bumped and bruised. Plugging in the rear camera is a little weird, the rear camera has a USB C but a one directional plastic gasket around it where the cord goes towards the top of the camera. The main power is a mini-USB, not even micro, this is probably the most annoying the feature as I mini-USB has pretty much disappeared so spare cords aren’t a thing for this. On the security side, this camera is local only, the easiest way to get videos and pictures off it is to just take about the micro-SD card and put it in your laptop (with an adapter if needed need). If you are wanting to protect that data from someone breaking into your car this might not be the camera for you. Besides just taking the camera with the SD card they could just take the SD card or just wipe the SD card as locked files are not safe from formatting the SD card. This isn’t something I am worried about myself, but it may be worth considering depending on your needs. The video is clear and stable, the files are labeled with an F or an R for front and rear on the SD card and overall, it is a well-made dash cam that hits all my needs. There was one time I got in the car in the morning and noticed the rear camera was purple. I restarted the camera, and it was fine, I haven’t encountered that issue since so I figure it was just a ghost in the system.
