The NFC Reader/Writer gives amiibo support to my old 3DS. I got it specify for Animal Crossing New Leaf, After I downloaded the update from Nintendo's eShop, put in 2 AA's, turned it on, place an amiibo on top of the device, follow the on screen instructions, my amiibo character was in the game.

It's about twice as tall as a closed 3DS XL, and has a nice weight to it. All it takes is two AA batteries to power, but I'm not sure how long they will last. It's not meant to be left on for long periods of time, so I expect the batteries will last quite a while. The design looks visually appealing although the black cover on the IR sensor feels a bit loose (not like it would fall out though). The infrared sensor on it has a nice range, so you don't have to be perfectly aligned with it. It seems the 3DS has to communicate with this reader every time you want to use it, so it takes a bit longer to read/write amiibos than it would with a N3DS although it does cost 1/10th the price of a N3DS XL. Good for people that already have a 3DS but people who don't might want to go with a New 3DS instead.

I have no complaints with this item as it works great. The only issue is with the Amiibos themselves. My son tried to use his Amiibo on a DS game, but it is connected to a Wii U game. So, we have to boot up the Wii U, find the Amiibo section and delete the data from that to be able to connect with a different game. Seems like a pain in the butt to be honest.

This is great for those who have a 3DS that does not have an NFC reader. Instead of having to buy a New 3DS for aprox. $200.00, you can instead buy this reader for $19.99 or less and have the same capabilities. Saved me tons of money for sure.

I was originally holding off on opening my amiibos until this came out. I only had smash bros for the 3DS and I wasn't ready to drop 60 dollars for the Wii U version, so I waited for Nintendo to finally announce when the adapter was coming out. I then started to open my amiibos after Mario Party 10 just because now I could actually use some, but I kept a good majority in their boxes until this would come out. Low and behold I got it and I was the happiest man alive. The product works great, and actually has excellent battery life considering how much I use it. I haven't had a problem with it yet but here's hoping I don't. It feels great being able to use my amiibos now and I would highly recommend this product to anyone with a 3DS!

We purchased the headset for our 10 year old Minecrafter and reports are nothing but possitive. Overall the build is quality. Nice fit, comfy for extended time, and the mic picksup well. Sure, noise cancelling would be good but not a deal breaker on these. Cord is nice and long and with the mic/speaker spliter its even longer. These are a great buy!

This is easy to set up and easy to use with amiibo's, but I think both myself and my son are wondering what the real utility of using amiibo's with 3DS games actually is. There doesn't seem to be a ton of features that the amiibos unlock. Maybe we just need to keep playing to find out? It did seem more usable with a game like Super Smash Brothers.

If you like playing this game which I do.....you will like this product. You can get animals who are not in your town and re-design their homes. You can also get cards and amibos for other games if you have any and use it. It works very well as does all Nintendo products and I enjoy using it.

This device is awesome. I almost thought Nintendo wouldnt keep their word and give all the previous generation DS owners a device to use Amiibo. This allows me to use my Amiibo in Smash Bros without having to upgrade to the newest model. Thanks for carrying this, Best Buy.

Very simple to use and it does what it says it'll do with ease. Buy this or you could upgrade to the new 3ds with the sensor built in but if you don't have the extra money for the new one but want the ability to use amiibos then definitely pick this up

Does exactly what it says, works from a short distance for reading amiibo. Very nice if you don't feel like buying a new Nintendo 3DS just to use amiibo with games.

The device works adequately with the 3DS XL and serves to save me the money of buying the new 3DS just for the amiibo function. The only reason it doesn't get a 5 star is because it sometimes doesn't connect well. But that is rare.

Works just as it should and great for families like mine where we have more than one 3DS. My kids and I can each use our 3DS and share one single NFC reader.

this product helped my son buy amiibos with hi 3ds instead of making me buy him a $250 new 3ds.

It works and had no trouble using it. Thanks for giving non New 3DS members a way to use amiibo. Reasonably priced IMO.

An odd little device. I purchased it mainly as a test of the hardware. I wasn't sure how the 3DS (not the "New 3DS") would work with the Amiibo figures for the few games that can actually take advantage. Yet here is this device that actually uses the infrared receiver on the 3DS; which I don't think has any other usage. So, there you go it works for the few games that can use Amiibo figures; just keep the reader and 3DS still to keep a good infrared signal during the reading times.

My daughter hadn't purchased the new 3DS yet. This little thing made it easy to use her Animal Crossing Amiibo cards.
