The Nikon 105mm Micrelens is of high quality and yields photos that are very sharp. Outstanding formacros, excejjent for portraits, and very good forlandscapes that might be shot from that distance.

Not my go to lens but still a great one! I thought I would like it for newborn session close up shots and it works well for them but I still prefer my 50mm 1.8 for my portrait work.

The medium Macro lens for Nikon

Not sure how much there is to review about this lens: it's optically darn near perfect, sharp wide open from corner to corner, with good to very good bokeh. The 85 f/3.5 is better for most DX users because the working distance (the distance from the front element to the subject at 1:1) is about the same. The focus ring has a very long throw for precise manual focusing, and it's a big languid to focus close up, but better than other macro lenses, and it's a bit chubby for an f/2.8, but all that glass is there for a good reason: performance. There is one thing that probably should be mentioned if you're not used to a Micro-Nikkor: they're different from a normal macro lens, it's not Nikon's word for Macro, it refers to a lens with flat field correction. What the heck is that? At close-up distances an ordinary macro lens will have a curved focus plane, while a Micro-Nikkor is almost perfectly flat. So for taking photos of stamps, slides, or anything flat, a Micro-Nikkor will have the entire object in focus, an ordinary macro lens will not.

I have used the lens only once and was totally satisfied with the results. I was taking close up art shots of objects. The detail was incredible! You could even see the milling marks in the metal object. I will note that I disabled the auto focus to insure the lens focused on the portion of the image I desired rather than its selection. I would recommend it if you like doing close-up photography.

This is by far the best macro lens available in the Nikon lens line. I've tried the 40mm and the 85mm macro lenses and they just don't compare. This lens allows me to get really close to my subject and it's super-quiet.

I had to twist my own arm to pull the trigger on this 105 mm macro lens, pretty expensive but I think it is well worth it. Really clear images and you can really zoom in close for some great macro shots plus it works real well for portrait’s too. A little heavy for long walks but I’m using a Nikon Z50 which is pretty light weight so that works out well. No regrets here.

Bought this based on reviews from many places. The lens is very hefty and superbly sharp both as a 1:1 macro and a nice portrait lens. Only had a week or so but so far I am very impressed. This is not a cheap lens but does an excellent job for the price. I would highly recommend for anyone who really wants to do macro photography; images truly stunning.

I had an opportunity to test this lens in the field. I was impressed with the sharpness and bokeh. my only complaint would be auto focus couldn't keep up with a 2 1/2 year old. I lost many beautiful shots to out of focus. Other than that, its an excellent lens

As a macro lens or for portait type work, this lens is a must have. Coupled with my D500 camera. The photos I am able to capture are amazing. The Vibration Reduction (VR) feature works extremely well as does the quick and accurate focusing. Highly recommend!!!

Can't say enough about this lens, it's fun to be able to get close up on the smallest detail, but also have a fantastic portrait lens. It's quiet and powerful. Worth every dime!!

This lens is just awesome. I previously rented a Nikon 85mm macro lens and but decided to go with the 105mm because it's superior build. You can feel the quality in material of the 105. Very sturdy. Only downside is the weight and size. But overall love this lens.

This is certainly an excellent choice for Portrait Lens. Amazed with the picture quality. Very clean. Slightly on the expensive end, but would justify if you planning to take lot of portraits. The only thing I noticed is a very feeble noise when this guy is trying to focus in low light when you have the VR turned on. Even though this is listed as 2.8, the camera would override it to the next f stop if the settings are not suited for a 2.8. Macro is also amazing on this glass. Generally, I am used to getting very close to the subject, but this focuses great from a considerable distance.

Purchased this lens to replace an AF Micro Nikkor 60mm 1:2.8 D lens that was being used on a Nikon D7500. It is larger and heavier but definitely gives sharper images. I decided that to upgrade rather than wish for better pictures. I strongly recommend this lens and the safety of buying it from Best Buy rather than a risky discounter.
