I have been used to taking pictures with my iPhone and thought having a larger camera with be inconvenient. But, we were going on a trip and wanted to make sure to have great pictures. I am so glad we investigated cameras and find this one. It not only takes great pictures, but is lightweight and easy to operate. And, the WiFi feature allowed us to transfer the pictures directly to our phone and iPad as soon as we got back to our room. We love this camera.

This is a great camera for any enthusist and it is easy enough for the first time buyer as well. The manual controls allow you to get the most out of the camera. At the same time, the preset modes make it easy to take great pictures right out the box. The built in wifi works great; it makes sharing pictures on the go really simple. I also recommend the Nikon 50mm 1.4 lense as well. If you are looking to take pro quality pictures or do a lot of shooting at night this lense does the trick.

I bought this camera because it came with everything I needed to get started. I love it!! I'm a beginner so I needed something that would have an auto setting as well as settings that allow me to broaden my skills. Very easy to use. The pictures are clear and crisp. Would definitely recommend it. I've added a couple pictures I've taken at a butterfly house.

Finally made the jump to a DSLR from my phone & compact point and shoot. First real use was for an airshow and when I looked at the pics full size I was extremely happy with the photos I took with little experience and on the auto setting. I can't wait to learn more about the camera and all of the things I can do with it!

With the impending arrival of my first great grandchild, I decided to upgrade from an old point and shoot. Having had a film SLR, I know the basics, and this has so much more. Still getting used to the shutter release button location (keep wanting to press "Record") I still haven't begun to explore all the features, but looking forward to it. Sample photo: Aperture Priority f/4 1/400 sec ISO 100 Focal Length 20mm

I have owned a Nikon D5000 for a couple of years and really wanted to upgrade to WiFi and GPS. I researched and found out the D5300 had the GPS which was eliminated form the newer mode so I opted for this one over the newer version. Though I do not use the Kit lens that much I did decide on getting the one with the lens over body only as the new 18-55 Kit lens is changed a bit and collapses down to be more compact for travel. The camera is loaded with features and suffice to say you are best to just read up on them. A couple that I like over the D5000 I had: 1. GPS is nice as it tags photo location. It works well and I haven't had any issues with it. 2. The WiFi works well and the app d nice as you can take a photo from your phone. Works good for tripod shots and HDR bracketing. 3. The screen is nice and crisp. 4. The 24mpx though not needed is nice to allow more cropping. All in all I would recommend this camera especially now that it is a bit older and the price has dropped. It's a good value.

This is my first Nikon camera. Before I had Olympus E420 slr - great but got old. With some extra lenses this Nikon is all I need for the next 5-6 years to come.

Great entry level camera. I find it to be comfortable, versatile, easy to use and easy to figure out. My wife and I are using it mainly for food photos and videos. I have used it for some car photos. We love the quality of the pictures. We are so glad we decided to invest in this as opposed to the continued use of the camera on our iPhones. The quality is a very noticeable step up.

my first Dslr camera and I couldn't have made better choice. Not a avid photographer but I always wanted to capture beautiful picture of my 2 yr old daughter. So far it's turning out to be a great toy. Loved the wifi feature and picture quality.

Has very good scene choice for picture setup, but have found auto feature excellent also. Has all features I wanted and more. Continuous shooting, mega pixel, density, and zoom. Download/software produces awesome color.

I purchased the Nikon D5300 after quote a bit of research. I can say I'm quite pleased with it. My smartphone takes pretty good photos, but I wanted more ability to do things like low light, and night time shots where smartphones lose it. There is a lot to learn with all the features, which are great for when you want to take more control, but the auto modes also make it easy to use right out of the box. Would buy again!

I been a Nikon user for some time and use Full Frame Cameras and I use mirror-less as well. I shoot mostly landscape and kids sports for my family, this camera does what it needs to do and does it well. The sensor is the same sensor in the Nikon D7100, the main differences is body and manual controls the D7100 has over the D5300. That being said there are some features that come in handy that the D7100 doesn't have. The Articulating screen and the ability to shoot 1080p/60p with the D5300 sets it apart from the D7100 in some ways. Both of these cameras will shoot still very well, with the D5300 you just have to do more of the adjustments through the menu which is easy too do. A good lens selection I would recommend is the 18mm-140mm is much better quality than the kit lens and for sports look no further than the 70mm-300mm VR lens and if you want to do great portrait shots the Nikon 35mm 1.8 should be on your short list. Great camera for the money and very ease to navigate and use, and you will get top notch quality shots with this new sensor. Pros: Great quality Stills Ease of use Smooth Great looking 1080p/60 video Great Lens selection Cons: Not a many manual controls Not weather sealed. Great all around camera!
