I'm in my 40s, and really am not an athletic kind of guy these days. But when I saw this unit, I was intrigued by its design, and had heard of the 2017 model, which will have AI, Voice Commands, Recognition and more.
It feels much safer than a hover board, and cooler looking than the scooters.
I actually bought a German engineered handlebars kit with kickstand, and that's when I was like WOW!!! You can even get it online at the ninebot store.
I would suggest you wait and check the price everyday. Never pay more than 799, and if you wait, it goes down to 599 fairly often, like for Veterans day, Cyber Monday, etc..
The German handlebars go up to chest level, and make the unit feel not only super safe, but extremely precise. The auto balancing feels good, and the miniBot Pro, in summary, feels safe and instills confidence in the rider.
The 2017 model also will have a robot head and 2 robotic arms, with an awesome SDK and API. But that might be in the 5K cost range. It's considered the Pro, top of the line Segway, or Ninebot (Ninebot recently acquired Segway).
The only advice I have is for safety reasons, as follows.
- It can turn so fast while staying in the same place. It feels like doing 360s on a skateboard that only has one giant sphere tire under the middle of the board. So, don't get bucked off.
- Curbs, uneven surfaces, etc... If you're going to attempt to go over them, you need to keep a steady speed, if you go to slow, you can get kicked off the device, and the bad part is, the device could continue to go, depending on which way the handlebars fall, so it could ride off without you or come back and clip you right in the ankles.
I suggest you just be careful, and until you really understand the limitations, stop, get off of it and just walk over uneven surfaces.
The German handlebars are awesome, however, the miniPro can no longer balance without a rider on it once the handlebar kit is installed because it is too heavy in One Direction, causing the center of gravity to be offset out of the bounds of the auto balance sensors.
That's why you need to get the little kickstand, as it will allow it to stay in the same place, so you can work around the problem this way.
If you don't upgrade the handlebars, then you steer using your knees, pushing them against the thing that looks like a little bike seat to the right or left.
There are no brakes, you lean backwards slightly to slow down, stop, or drive in reverse.
It can go 10Mph, up to 14 miles on a single charge. It weighs under 30 pounds, easy to pick up and walk with.
It's 5 stars, it's totally awesome, and I'm going to follow this line of personal transportation vehicles into where it takes me.

I am very happy with the Segway Ninebot. I was able to learn to ride it very quickly using the included tutorial program and it is easy to ride. It is solidly built with excellent quality. It is small and light enough to easily transport in my car trunk and the 14 mile range is amazing. Riding it is almost intuitive: it's as if you think about the direction you want to go and the Segway responds, gliding in that direction. It rides best and easiest on paved, smooth surfaces but it can handle grassy areas and uneven terrain within reason..

Got mine during the 2016 Thanksgiving sale. Works as advertised. I’ve had the miniPRO for a month and have 90 miles on it. I had rented full sized Segways about 10 times so I was familiar with the concept. Easy to ride, easy to steer with my knees. My only learning curve was not hitting the knee tiller bar as I would step off the mini, but after a couple of days paying attention, it’s no longer a problem. If you feel you are having a stability problem, just step off, but do NOT grab the knee tiller. That will probably induce some unwanted motion. Just step off, take care of yourself, and let the mini self-stabilize. Most of my riding so far has been on bike/pedestrian paths at the beach (60% after dark). The customizable lights are great (I also wear a light on my helmet). The mini is small enough and light enough to easily transport in the trunk.
I was surprised to find out from the supplied general instructions that I am too old to ride one.
Although not necessary, using their Bluetooth app on a cell phone definitely enhances the experience. Gives you speed, range, odometer, and a whole bunch of other neat nerd stuff.
At one tenth of the price of a full-size Segway, this is really a bargain!

I bought this with the hopes of using it for a 4 mile roundtrip to work. I'm a reasonably fit adult and have skied for many years. I have also owned a Segway (full size).
Pros:
The quality is great! Premium build, high-quality design, and everything is just top notch. It honestly felt even better than I thought it would considering the price. It works well and is in an completely different league than any hoverboard I have ever seen. Bluetooth connection to phone is very cool, but not all that useful. Battery lasts a long time and it has plenty of power.
Cons:
Knee steering is not very confidence inspiring. But the worst part is that the tiny wheels really just don't permit this to be used on anything other than a very flat surface. Even a 1 inch bump can be disruptive and forget it over rough pavement and that rules it out for any real commuting. It is just not a Segway only smaller.
If you are looking for a hoverboard, this gets 5 stars (only because I can't give 6). It is fantastic. If you are looking for a Segway at 1/5 the price though, this is not that. The small tire size and lack of handlebars make this very impractical for long trips unless the route is extremely smooth.

This is our 2nd mini Segway. Now my teenagers can ride together. It is well made. Very easy to ride. Anyone can learn to ride it in just 2-3 minutes because it's self balancing. Very safe. I really want to buy 2 more so our entire family can go out together. This is the only thing, other than a cell phone, that my kids cherish, take care of, and use everyday. We all love it. This is well worth the money!

My family owns two other hover boards before getting the miniPro. Without a doubt the miniPro is easier to use, especially if you want to go straight fast since you don't need to worry about making sure the two sides are even. The deck is one piece and you turn by using the knee arm. This makes it very easy to take turns. It's a well engineered product and with the app, you can connect to the miniPro and see various statistics and even control it remotely. It's more expensive than other hover boards but I feel you get what you pay for and it's worth the extra money. No worries with the battery exploding and burning your house down either. It's basically a mini Segway that is a lot cheaper and fun to use.

I had a $500 hover board when they first came out. No battery problems but it was very difficult to control. Even kids in the neighborhood had trouble staying on. The Segway is a breeze to ride. No worry about side to side balance and the tires make for a smooth ride. Steering with you knees works great.

We enjoy riding them. In the winter we need to ride them in the malls. We where told we could take them on the air plane when we travel. However we called before we left on holiday and were told by the airline no can not take even as checked baggage. Glad we called so we did not have them at the airport when we found out. Still like them and can take them in our motorhome

This Segway minipro is by far the Best Buy I have made in years. It’s fun easy to ride and turns heads everywhere you go. If you want to get out spare your feet and just take in the scenery I can think of no better way than the Segway minipro. The future is now and only $599.00 at Best Buy

I use it for work when I go to trade shows at conventions centers. It's pretty powerful! I can carry heavy items and even push carts while I'm on it. It saves me a lot of time and energy. I'm 185 lbs and it carries me up pretty steep hills no problem. It's very well built and high quality. Battery lasts long (15 mile range sounds right).

So much fun. Very easy and intuitive to ride. The middle bar started creaking so I tightened the bolt on the side and that seemed to fix it.

Great personal transportation. Self-balancing, fast (up to 10 mph) and long range. Adding an after-market handlebar makes it a Segway that is easily transported in the trunk of a car. Not just for kids. Even adults and seniors can easily enjoy this transport.

We have been using the Ninebot for 6 weeks now. It is an excellent product. It is very easy for even me at age 49 to learn to use and feel safe on. The knee bar steering is very intuitive and natural feeling. You can't go wrong with this Segway product!

this one is the easiest to learn to use, just follow the app instructions and in less than 5 minutes you will be ready to hit the streets. the battery consumption is actually measured in miles or KM. so pretty much it last around 14 + miles on a full charge. I didn't give it 5 stars because the speed limit is around 10 miles per hour and there's a few others that are faster.
