Coming from an ASUS ROG STRIX 4090 OC I got a 48% increase in score on Steel Nomad. Paired with a 9800X3D and Alienware - AW3225QF there is nothing that can touch the FPS I'm getting now. It's so tiny.

I shouldn't feel this way, but I do feel incredibly lucky to have gotten this 5090 for the REAL MSRP of $2000 on just the 2nd chance these went on sale at BestBuy since their launch about a month ago. Crazy how far we've come that a $2000 price tag is something people feel lucky about.
That said, if you want this card you are likely one of the following:
1. Someone who always wants the best PC Gaming gear, even if you don't really need it, but want to push the max settings at high frame rates and resolution (4K+or VR) in all of the latest games.
2. Someone who is technical and uses it for work or hobby, whether that is AI, High-Performance Computing, Rendering, CAD etc.
I'm a mix of both and I've always bought the highest end GPUs I can imagine and here we are.
One thing I will ask my fellow enthusiasts who were also lucky enough to get one of these GPUs is to PLEASE only buy what you actually need. Do not buy these to sell them, have some empathy and remember how you felt before you scored yours and let others have a chance to get these magnificent beasts at MSRP.
As for the card itself, there is some awesome stuff and some so-so stuff about it.
- The Nvidia Founder's Edition cooler is both amazing and a step-back in some ways compared to previous 3090/4090 FE. It is only 2 slots now instead of 3.5 slots, but it is nearly the same height and length, it just isn't as thick. It also has a dual pass-through design so you will want to make sure your case has good airflow for both intake and exhaust. While the dBA is maybe slightly louder, the 5090 cooler has a more pleasant tone and there is less "gushing" of air through the back of the card. Temps do get slightly higher under prolonged load but overall this is an amazing feat of engineering from Nvidia given the reduction in size with simultaneous increase in power (450W to 575W max). I still kind of wish they kept it to 3 slots with the dual flow through design however.
- The 12v2x6 power connector is still a problem on the 5090 just like the 4090. Recently, it was revealed that the main cause of the adapter potentially melting is that Nvidia reduced the number of power phases on the 3090 from 3x12v to 1x12v. So instead of 600W being distributed across 3 wires, it potentially can all go to a single wire on the connector, leading to catastrophic failure. We'll have to keep an eye on this, if Nvidia needs to issue a revision or recall or not, but I obviously did not let this stop me from buying and using the card, but I am using the ugly Nvidia adapter instead of a 3rd party cable or even a 3rd party cable from the PSU makers.
- The uplift in performance is 30% on average with up to 50% in 4K or very demanding games. This is one of the smallest uplifts ever for an Nvidia flagship card, but a lot of that has to do with this being the same process node compared to 4090. Also, 4090 was one of the best generational uplifts ever, so you have a great generation followed by a very average uplift so its a bit jarring in comparison. Still, that doesn't diminish the fact Nvidia was able to improve this card in many ways without the typical process node improvement typically needed. I posted some 3D Mark pictures and you can see, the THREE KINGS from 3090 > 4090 > 5090 is roughly 2x then just 1.3x, but still very impressive at nearly 2.5x from 3090 to 5090. So even in 5 years we've come a long way.
- 32GB VRAM and nearly 2TB/s of bandwidth is CRAZY for AI work, rendering, HPC and even VR. You can fit entire AI models here even when 24GB isn't enough and you'll never have to turn down texture quality for as long as you own the card.
- There's a few known issues with these cards. Flickering screen and PCIe 5.0 were issues, I never had PCIe 5.0 problems on an AMD X870 and 9800x3D system, but I did have a flickering issue on a 2nd screen. The latest 2/27/2025 drivers have drastically improved the flickering to almost completely stop it. Nvidia also has a ROP issue on some cards but it doesn't seem like the Nvidia FE cards are impacted as badly. Use GPU-Z to make sure you have all 176 ROPs.
Hopefully if you are interested in this card, supply improves and more cards start appearing more frequently. Even though this card doesn't perform quite as well (5-10%) of the larger partner cards, it looks the best, is very small, quiet and elegant and just is amazing to behold. It is also the only true MSRP card out there without paying 20-30% premiums or more.....just be patient, more cards will arrive and hopefully by then, Nvidia works out some of the kinks with this 50 series launch.

The stock situation is unacceptable. However, going from a 4090 / i5 13600k build to a 5090 FE / 9800x3d build has led to a notable jump in performance. I feel very fortunate to have been able to snag one of these on launch day (highly recommend the Hotstock mobile app, it's free).
There are plenty of benchmark videos on YouTube for you to draw your own conclusions, so there's no sense regurgitating here info you already know.
What is special about the founder's edition other than its rarity is the overall design: it's much, much thinner than my Zotac 4090. Gaming at 4k with an aircooled system has been a breeze. I have yet to see GPU temps exceed 68°C in-game.
For a frame of reference for anyone else who upgraded from a similar platform, here are my 3D Mark scores (steel nomad bench, no overclocking):
4090 / i5 13600k: 9101
5090 / 9800x3d: 14117
Anyone able to grab this card at $2000 should consider themselves fortunate given the current GPU situation. I've found it to be a worthwhile upgrade, especially given the resale value of the 4090.

I've been using a 4090 Founders Edition since it launched in 2022. It powered through every game at high/max settings at 4K. I did not need or intend to upgrade to a 5090, but I tried my luck on launch day just to see how crazy the demand was. After a minute of so of "waiting in line," I was amazingly able to add the 5090 FE to my cart and check out with no problems. Kudos to Best Buy for a smooth launch and very fast shipping, but NVIDIA should have waited to launch these cards until they had produced enough to satisfy initial demand.
The 5090 FE is a thing of beauty. When I opened the box, I was shocked at its compact 2-slot size. It fits perfectly in my NZXT H510 Flow case. Thankfully, NVIDIA has angled the 12VHPWR connector so the cable no longer rubs against the side of my case. The gun metal finish looks excellent in my case and it should look good in almost any build.
Even in my small case, the 5090 FE stays very cool. When gaming at 4K, I rarely see temperatures rise above 73° (they usually hover just under 70°). Unlike the 4090 FE, the 5090 FE does not exhaust air from the back of the card and out of your case. Instead, the 5090 FE uses a "double flow through" design that exhausts air directly into your case. If your CPU uses an air cooler, this could be a cause for concern. But it hasn't had a significant impact on my CPU temperatures using an AIO.
Performance is, of course, excellent. Gaming at 4K, I'm seeing anywhere from a 15 to 30 percent increase in FPS on a wide range of games (without using DLSS 4). Enabling the new DLSS 4 frame generation features in certain games improves FPS even more, but I'm not completely sold on this technology. Certain games with DLSS 4 like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle initially experienced massive amounts of stuttering and input lag with DLSS 4 enabled, although game updates have fixed most of these issues. However, if you have a 4080 Super or a 4090, I can't say there's a compelling reason to upgrade to the 5090 (especially if you have to pay more than MSRP for a 5090).
Still, if you game in 4K or higher and have the chance to purchase a 5090 Founders Edition, I would jump on it. You really can't go wrong.

A True Game-Changer – NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Del

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 is an absolute beast of a graphics card. From the moment I installed it, I could tell this was on a completely different level. The jump in performance compared to the previous generation is nothing short of incredible. Whether you're gaming in 4K, working in AI/ML, or creating high-resolution content, the 5090 handles it all with ease.
Ray tracing and DLSS 4.0 bring a stunning realism to modern games—lighting, reflections, and shadows look more immersive than ever. Frame rates are buttery smooth, even in the most demanding titles. I tested The Last of Us Part II Remastered on max settings in 4K, and the RTX 5090 didn’t even flinch. The visual fidelity, emotional depth, and smooth gameplay combined to create an unforgettable experience. Temps remained cool thanks to the refined cooling solution, and it runs surprisingly quiet for the power it packs.
For content creators and professionals, the RTX 5090 is a powerhouse. Rendering times in Blender and Premiere Pro are drastically reduced, and real-time editing in 8K is finally a seamless experience. The massive VRAM capacity and lightning-fast memory bandwidth make multitasking effortless, even with multiple demanding applications open at once.
If you're serious about future-proofing your rig and want the best of the best, the RTX 5090 is worth every penny. It’s not just an upgrade—it’s a leap into the next era of performance.

Thank you BBY for actually letting me get one!!! This is a great card, really surprised how small it was compared to previous versions. Great card build a Whole new Ultra 9 computer around it(I know, i'm just hoping Intel gets it right by the end of the Socket) and it's amazing i'm sure i'm limiting myself today with having the intel but Card is amazing.

While it may not be a huge leap over the previous generation, it is very much a huge jump from my 3070TI. Thermals and performance have been stellar so far in what seems like a magically compact form factor. Have $2000 burning a hole in your pocket? This is a great outlet for it!

NVIDIA RTX 5090 Review: The King of Overkill

Ah, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090—a graphics card so powerful it practically sneers at your puny 4K monitor and mocks your power supply. Priced at a mere $1,999 (because who needs rent money anyway?), this monstrosity isn’t just a GPU—it’s a statement. And that statement is: "I have more money than sense."

Amazing card!!! I hear a lot about people complaining about the cooling but to be honest, I had the gigabyte gaming oc 5090 and this gets slightly better performance. It’s also a fraction of the size which opens up other pcie slots which is nice because even running at pcie gen5x8 you’re only missing out on like 1-3% performance and can run other cards as needed.
And the stealth/minimalist look is fire.
10/10 happy with the purchase.

I had been trying to get this card since launch day. I tried update scanners, Hotstock, and even randomly hitting F5 and hoping that "add to cart" would magically appear. As it turns out, randomly hitting F5 is how I ended up getting this card. It was pure luck and persistence that won in the end. It's a beautiful card and has a thinner profile than the giant bricks that the AIB's are selling. It's not Best Buy's fault that these are hard to get right now. I appreciate the online buying process and efforts to defeat bots. Now I just need to find a water block for this beast.

It's an excellent card but isn't for everyone. Value wise, it's poor. Quality is great and so is the performance. I'm upgrading from a 4090. The increase in performance isn't great like in past generations. For those that really want the card, be patient and do not pay a penny over MSRP. Although I like this card, I do not recommend it at $1,999.99 or even a penny more. This should have been closer to $1,499.99

Its a 5090 at the actual MSRP. Not sure how NVIDIA is able to keep their prices and all orher board partners cannot. I was able to purchase in the April 2025 drop. How does it perform? Amazing! Idk how NVIDIA is able to cool such a power hungry card in a 2 slot design. Undervolt to 875mv + 994mhz and PL at 80% the card runs extra cool even in a SFF case!

This card is a monster. I came from a EVGA FTW3 3080ti (rip evga). That card was struggling at 4k and very loud. I would reach 78-80C under max load on certain games.
This new card doubles my performance of the 3080ti, but also runs a lot quieter and cooler. I cannot even hear the card, the engineering on it is amazing. Most games I sit about 46-52C with incredible fps at 4k. I did undervolt like every owner of this card should do. I'm sitting at 2600mhz at 935mv and this is the way.
The card is beautiful and powerful, I'm giving it 5 stars for everything except price. It definitely should be cheaper, but this is what happens when there is no competition in the high end.

Only 5090 in a 2 slot format. Runs a little hot at 70C when gaming but to be expected and still in spec. Mild coil whine, barely noticeable. Pretty great engineering feat to reduce it to this footprint and still have this performance.

I have upgraded from the GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition to the GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition, and the transition has been seamless. I am particularly pleased with the card's compact form factor. The performance enhancement with DLSS 4 and Multi-Frame Generation in Cyberpunk 2077 is notable. Furthermore, I am relieved that my 5090 arrived free from any Render Output Unit (ROP) defects. Paired with a AMD 9800X3D CPU this card is a beast! Bestbuy did an incredible job with this transaction!

I got incredibly lucky to snag one. Coming from a 3080, whst a difference. I dribe 1 4k and 2 1440 monitors all at 120hz, zero issues. Rivals looks great maxed out. The power connector is a little concerning, otherwise incredible card even if it’s expensive. This is close to my AIB 3080 size, which is crazy. Hope eveyone gets a chance to buy one that can afford it.

Snagging an RTX 5090 on launch day was beyond a stroke of luck. Thanks to points, my out of pocket cost was under $1K, making it an absolute steal. Performance? Insane. 4K max settings? No sweat. DLSS 4.0 is legit, and the extra VRAM should keep it solid for years. That said, it’s total overkill unless you're really pushing high resolutions. If I paid full price, I’d have hesitated, but at what I paid? Zero regrets.

Very happy with the performance of the 5090 Founders Edition that I was oh so very lucky to be able to purchase. I have it placed inside my Antec C8 case configured for optimal Airflow. I have undervolted my 5090FE and its operating at near stock performance with less voltage and temps. Playing CyberPunk 2077 in 4k for hours and my system runs at a cool 60 degrees Celsius.
