I have bought into Dolby Vision and this strategy steaming device is fast, responsive and easy to use. I first tried the FireStick 4K but learned that the Amazon device didn't support Vudu without side-loading the app, and then when the app was side-loaded it would not stream Dolby Vision content. I have a fair amount of Dolby Vision compatible movies I want to have access to and I returned an NVidia Shield Pro. I then wanted to purchase another Pro version of the Nvidia Shield, but it was sold out everywhere. I bought the standard d shield, and added a microSD card, and it works just as well as teh Pro model for what I use it for. I don't really care to game on the Shield, or to use it as a Plex media server, so I am happy with the purchase. It also seems more stable than my Roku Ultras that I replaced.

This replaced a Roku Ultra. I initially purchased an Apple 4K and after 2 weeks I knew the Apple wasn't for me. I have nothing Apple and my experience is in Android so this product was exactly what I was looking for. If you don't need it for a Plex server or want to use a usb gamepad then this will work fine for streaming. It uses Google Play store for it's apps so anyone that uses Android will be familiar with it. It plays great 4K and Dolby Digital with upscaling. The remote uses CEC and built-in infrared to control your other devices. It controls my LG smart TV and my Onkyo receiver with no problems at all. The remote is easy to hold and the backlit buttons light when the remote is picked up. For performance, it blows the Roku Ultra away and compared to the Apple 4K, it's par on performance but with a remote you can actually hold.

The nVidia Shield Android TVs are awesome, and this newest version doesn't disappoint. I have 2 now, the 2020 Pro and the 2020 standard (2 TVs). The interface is simple, and it's snappy. It has access to almost all of the streaming apps I've seen, and for the ones that only support Chromecast, it has that built in as well. This particular unit is a unique form factor, but easily something you can hide behind the TV. The remote is radio frequency (BT), so you don't have to point it at anything to necessarily use it.. And unusually, this device can actually control the volume of your sound bar (that part might be Infrared, so some pointing might be required). The remote is back lit, comfortable to hold, and easy to navigate. If it was missing anything, perhaps something to differentiate volume up/down, or play/pause so that I could find it easier without looking. But, at least with the back light, you can see it in the dark!

To understand my recommendation for the SHIELD TV, my household primarily uses Google devices. We have a Chromebook, Google Homes, Android phones, etc. When I recently stumbled into the streaming world, I started with a Chromecast Ultra. I found that while it was great for bringing up quick things onto the TV such as a YouTube video, podcast, etc., I eventually found that it was not very intuitive with extended usage. I actually missed having a dedicated remote and a controllable interface on the TV. I wanted to upgrade to an NVIDIA SHIELD earlier since it seemed to fulfill my requirements, but there were some nitpick issues. I ended up buying a Fire TV Stick 4K to try out since it was super cheap. It worked well, but the UI was cluttered. In addition, it lacked Chromecast support and the overall Google feel. For streamers within the $100-200 price point, most would previously recommend the SHIELD TV (2015 and 2017 models) primarily if you want to use PLEX or similar applications. The Apple TV 4K would be the one to buy for all other use-cases. Since I don't do local media playback, I was actually falling towards the Apple TV 4K. With this refresh, I can definitely the 2019 SHIELD TV. NVIDIA has fixed the prior iterations' nitpick issues by bringing in AI upscaling, Dolby Vision and Atmos support, and an improved remote. Overall, the 2019 SHIELD TV works superbly with very minimal issues and checks off all my requirements in a streaming media player.

Great product, can hide behind TV, good picture quality. Nice remote that can learn functions for sound bar volume , well built except layout of buttons a bit awkward although the buttons are backlit, Interface is good, fast and user can select icons on Home Screen as needed. Needs to be connected to external power source. Cannot be powered using TV USB source.

One of the easiest Android TV devices I have ever setup. The cylinder design makes it easy to hide behind the TV. I am surprised at how regularly it is updated by Nvidia, which is nice. Performance is seamless and smooth and looks awesome even on my 10 year old Panasonic plasma which only displays 1080p but its the best 1080p I have ever seen over a streaming box. Only downside is the high cost but if you want a refined device that is always improving, this is it.

Very powerful and feature packed device for the price. upscaling made picture look excellent even on an older LCD TV. Android TV interface is nice to use and is backed by Google Play store so user isn't as limited with streaming apps. Chromecast also works well with android or iphone. The remote has been updated from previous version and offers better use and feel. For an additional $50 you could upgrade to the Pro and get a Plex server, a Smarthings hub, and expandability with an external hard drive.

The BEST streaming "box" ever made

I have owned at least a dozen different devices for playing back my digital media since around 2008. I started by ripping my DVDs so my kids couldn't damage the originals. Also playing back home videos from devices back to my early cell phone (shutters). But every device I ran it against there were always compatibility issues. Having to recompress, reconvert videos became a chore until I discovered KODI. The original Nvidia Shield came preinstalled with KODI and it is wonderful if you have your own digital movie collection. There is really no format or compression that I have come across this will not play. In addition to this you can also use this device as a PLEX server, which basically does about the same but transcodes these video files for playback remotely. I do have issues with PLEX in it's overall compatibility but natively streaming files, combined with the Nvidia Shield it does the job. On top of that the Nvidia Shield is THE most powerful set top "box" streaming device meaning it will be quick and responsive now, but not be outdated any time soon. In fact, the original Nvidia Shield is still updated and works very well still today. It also works great as a Steam box for streaming content from a local gaming PC. And the Tegra X1 chip inside means that it will handle any compatible game you throw at it (so long as you have a wired or wireless game controller). It also supports the Nvidia game streaming service where you can stream PC quality games remotely from Nvidia's servers should you have the bandwidth available. So the question becomes why buy this, over say on older Nvidia Shield? The answer, this new cylinder shaped model (and the Pro model) have a little more processing power and can upconvert 720p, and 1080p content to look more like 4K content on the fly, and it actually works well. On top of that this new model supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos which were not supported before as they are a hardware upgrade vs software alone. So if 1080p is good enough for you and or you don't care about Dolby Atmos or Vision then look into the old player, but not too much as this model is priced really well. I have been using this box since it's release daily and love it. The new remote is also a cool feature, that with the accompanying app, you can make the remote sound if lost in the couch (something that happened frequently with the older remote's very thin design). All around I can't say enough good things about this device in a single online review. If you are wanting to stream content to a TV, no television purchase is complete without an Nvidia Shield to go alongside it, period.

Amazing product. I have a FireTV cube as well and the Shield beats it by a mile in performance and quality. The remote lights up when you pick it up and you can use Alexa to find it as well. The resolution scaling is very impressive when you're watching movies at lots than 4k resolution. I've never seen anything like it. The best part of the Shield is that you can play games if you like as well and they look great. Only limited to network speed on that. I ended up exchange it for the pro version because it worth it that much.

This is my 3rd Shield and I have yet to have a complaint. The tube version is slightly different than the Pro as it limits your access to games that require 4gb RAM but I have found no issues in streaming from GeForce Now at all. Streaming is so easy, picture quality is gorgeous and audio is the best. Take advantage of the upscaling features with HDHR and 4K. This is the only streaming device you'll need!!

Best android tv box still lacks of performance

I was interested in buying a shield since the first model but I still think it's too expensive compared to similar products on the market, even though it's still the best android tv box. For being a 2019 product, it can't handle Asphalt 9, a several years old Android game, that make me realize that it's performance is not as good as it is announced if I compare it with the ultra low price moto e 2020 that I got for 60 bucks that I'd able to run the aforementioned game. The other drawback specially for shield tv core model is the excessively low storage, 8 GB total, that can be upgraded with a micro sd as internal storage but then you lose the external storage option to play with emulators and media easily. Also the 16 GB of storage of the 'pro' model is not a substantial improvement but the 2 usb ports allow you to increase both internal and external storage. For the positive side of the product the AI upscaling is incredible and make your old nineties series look great on 4k upscaling. Also emulation works perfectly up to Sega dreamcast. My advice, if you really like to play with android devices you're going to have a good time with the shield but don't expect a good performance device with 2019 standards. Spend the extra 50 for the pro model if you don't want to be greatly disappointed.

Ive been using fire sticks and fire tv but they are horrible at streaming they dont have enough power to handle it ... so i ran into disney+ for example where it buffered all the time i assume its due to the fact you cant lower the quality of video feed on the apps ... so i changed to this and its the greatest plenty of zip to get it done even in better quality than i was using on Firetv it has all my streaming apps unlike the firetv (vudu is example) it has google tv and music and built in casting that was a huge hassle on the fire devices.. i is has the best use of emby and hd homerun tuner fuctions ive seen anywhere just what i was looking for, it has rid so much frustration well worth the money

I bought my first nvidia shield back in 2015 because it was the best android box. It's still works great and nvidia is great with updates. So with my new TV I bought the 2019 version and it definitely better for a several reasons. 1. Remote 2. Dolby Vision and HDR 10 3. AI upscaling 4. Incredibly powerful = Fast.

This is the top android system out there. The only reason I rated four stars is because there needs to be more memory on the product. You can not go wrong with this because it is easy to load apks', other apps, super fast, good for gammers, works with other remote accessories, and constantly updating thier firmware
