The movie musical was on its way out by the time 'Oliver!' hit theaters in 1968. Happily, this marvelously fun and entertaining film swept the Oscars and earns my vote for the best musical of the 60s (although 'The Music Man' ranks a close second). Mark Lester is adorable in the title role and Jack Wild is a kick as the mischievious Artful Dodger. Then there's Ron Moody recreating his stage role as the villainous (but still likable) Fagin. He's not exactly the same character created by Charles Dickens but he's memorable just the same. And Shani Wallis' Nancy along with Oliver Reed's Bill Sikes give the film some real dramatic punch. The production design strikingly recreates the feel and flavor of mid-19th century London. And the songs which include 'Consider Yourself' and 'Oom Pah Pah' are the icing on the cake. Do your family a great favor and add this timeless treat to your DVD collection.

This musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist, won 5 Oscars including Best Picture. I've always wondered how Dickens might have reacted to seeing his work turned into a musical - my guess is that he would not have been thrilled. Nonetheless, the film is delightful. I particularly enjoy Ron Moody's Fagin and Oliver Reed's Sikes.

It was great to see this movie again. I love the music so much. It cost more than I think it was worth and I had to pay shipping fees on it. So, I think that was the only down fall in ordering the movie. The time on delivery was quite excellent, it arrived a whole day early, on 2/8/21. That was fast, maybe because this, I think, is the first time I paid a shipping fee? I am happy to add the movie to my collection. The extras are not all that great, but the two interviews were interesting.

Oliver is the 1968 beloved British musical version of the Charles Dickens classic Oliver Twist, adapted from the stage musical. It is the story of a young British orphan on a quest for happiness in a world of villains and thieves. It won 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Score, Best Art Direction, Best Sound, and an honorary Oscar for Choreography. Great cast and full of entertainment!

The movie overall is great. The only detraction is the case was broken on the inside. Luckily it didn't damage the DVD. Also, it's in 2 parts, so you have to flip it over halfway through.

This movie was wonderful. The story line is a bit choppy in the movie so having read the book will help. Everyone has their own opinions of course, there were a few things I hated about the movie and many things I loved. The voice of Oliver in the copy I watched seemed dubbed over and was horrible in parts. Thats the only thing I really didn't like. This movie has some great songs in it and the story is moving. I would strongly recommend seeing this film.
A note for anyone who has seen the musical, If memory serves me 2 songs are left out of the movie. "Thats your Funeral" being one of them.
