This is a phenomenal lens, especially at the price for which it sells. I am new to the pro side of Olympus but I am thoroughly impressed by the build quality, the fluid mechanics, the relatively light weight, and the price. The lens feels like a tank in your hand but performs like an F-35. The zoom ring is smooth with no hiccups or lurching towards a certain focal point. Enough good things cannot be said about the lens, it is just a terror when compared to the similar but twice as expensive, three times as heavy 24-70s from other manufactures.

I took this as my go to lense for a Viking Cruise down the Danube. Crystal clear photos in all sorts of lighting situations with instant focus inside cathedrals and in the cities in the evening. 12 to 40 zoom range was all I needed for 99% of my photos. It’s nice to have the all metal construction when jumping on and off the crowded busses and subways.

I love this lens. I am able to get sharply-focused photos throughout the 12 to 40 mm zoom range. The lens is sturdily built and is weather resistant. The only negative I can think of is that the lens is rather heavy. But the second you pick this thing up to attach it to your camera, you’ll know that you’re holding a quality piece of glass.

Build quality, weight, size were all good. Very well matched to the omd line. Maybe too heavy for the pen series. I had to get my bundle from somewhere else. Bestbuy delayed my omd em2 twice and I couldn't wait anymore.

I bonded with this camera immediately when I removed it from the box. It just feels right. Micro 4-3rds lens are small and portable. Therefore I am able to place the camera and several lens in a small bag without carrying a heavy burden. My back thanks me. Because of the 5 axis stabilization, my hit rate has improved significantly. Paired with fast primes such as the 75mm 1.8, you will get sharp images with bokeh. Although this is a small sensor, you can take beautiful images matching the quality of APS-C cameras with this camera. The weatherproofing is a plus as you are able to take photographs in the rain without worry.

Excellent lens! I have been wanting one of these for a long time to use with my OMD-EM-1. Was able to catch it on sale for $300.00 off and I jumped at the chance to get it. This will become my go to lens. Nice combination to use as a general purpose camera/lens. I have several M.Zuiko lens but this will become my primary lens for all around shooting. I like to shoot landscapes and the 12-40 is the perfect lens. I would highly recommend this lens to anyone looking for a quality Pro lens for all around convenience and picture taking.

Just got this lens for my Olympus OMD EM-1. So far, the pictures are better than I expected. My pictures are sharp. I have only used the auto focus so far and have been more than pleased. It was on sale which made it even better.

This is the lens that will live on your EM-1 and EM-1 MK2. It's a little wide and a little telephoto. When fitted to the MK2 and used for video, it autofocuses and stabilizes the video and does a great job. Not a lens for a lot of bokeh but enough to create nice separation between your subject and background. I upgraded from the older model of this lens and think it was a worthwhile purchase to gain stabilization and video autofocus. The other lens needed an adapter to work and then does not have a correct back focus. Nice high quality lens.

This is a beautiful lens. I was attracted to this lens from the macro capabilities and the sharpness of the image. The lens represents color the way I prefer it to be, which is a little on the cooler side.
The externals feel like the quality you would dream of feeling in premium glass and the switch between manual and autofocus is seamless and ergonomic.
I haven't figured out what I want to program the function key to do yet on the lens, but it has one and I find that pretty cool.
It pairs great with the Panasonic GH4 for video (which is what I use it for primarily) and takes amazing stills. The focal length and constant aperture makes me favor zoom lenses for its versatility. I come from a very heavy prime use background with video and film and this has me thinking about investing in more zooms.
I would recommend it to anyone!
THE ONLY DOWNSIDE:
Autofocus during filming is kind of slow, but I don't use it often anyway since I like to have full manual control over the image for video. That's forgiving for how well the glass performs overall. I give it an A+

I opted for this lens over the Panasonic 12-35 for my G7 for a few reasons.
1. The manual focus clutch. I do some narrative work that benefits from repeatable manual focus pulls.
2. It’s not much, but it’s slightly longer at 40mm vs 35 on the Panasonic.
3. (I guess) it has really good close focusing.
And the color is amazing. I’ve used it on multicam shoots with other M43 cameras. We had a whole set of Veydra primes available. Both cameras were Panasonic (but different models) and we set color profiles identically between them. I was way happier with my Olympus shots. Skin tones are warmer without pushing into magenta/yellow and the highlights rolled off nicely relative to the kit lens. I’ve also used it on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and it’s been just as good for 1080p.
If you own an Olympus body, this is a great lens, as their bodies have IBIS. If you’re a Panasonic shooter and you own an older body w/o IBIS, you will get some shake with video. I had my reasons for this lens on the G7 (which lacks IBIS), so weigh yours out as well.

I am impressed with the Olympus Pro line of lenses. They are smaller than full frame yet are just as capable. The construction quality of these lenses are top notch too. I am very satisfied with the results I'm getting using this lens (and all the other Olympus Pro Lenses). They are worthy for professional work.

The M-Zuiko 4-3rds lens 12-40mm f2.8 is the lens to start out with as an all around item to go with the Olympus Pen-F. I am very happy with the two pick, camera and lens for the cost.
