A definite improvement over the E-M1 mk i if you need the extra speed, the 4K video, incredible improvement in the image stabilization (which was excellent in the original model), and other newer features.... there are far too many improvements to summarize here. Not such an big improvement if you are strictly looking for higher ISO performance over the mk i version. If this is your main consideration in upgrading from mk i to mk ii, you might not get the jump in low light /high ISO performance you are hoping for. The increase from 16 to 20 MP helps outright resolution, but it's not a quantum leap in improvement. AF performance for moving objects is definitely better. I was tempted to get the Nikon D500 but decided the overall size of that system was too large for my needs.

    Terrific Upgrade

This is a fabulous upgrade from the OMD EM1. It has a fully articulating viewfinder, two SD card slots, excellent build construction and video capabilities. At $1999 for the body, this is not cheap. My wife and I travel a lot and I just got back from Mexico. This camera along with a few lenses is much lighter than a DSLR. There is an iPhone app that will geotag photos. The Panasonic GH5 will be released soon and is priced the same. The trade off is the GH5 has better video and is heavier. I have used DSLRs for years, but they are significantly heavier and do not have the video capabilities of the interchangeable lens cameras.

Direct access to Functions. Run and Shoot.

WOW. Just like my EM10.2, I can look through the EVF on the bright sunny days and pull the focus box on the back panel. There are more buttons with more functions that can be assigned without without fumbling around the Super Control Panel (SCP) or menu. I can hit the HDR button while in any PASM mode and scroll through the modes without the SCP or menu. I can do a white balance with one touch. I owned the camera for a month and have not thought of what function to button reconfiguration yet. There are enough functions and reconfigurable buttons for run and shoot photography without fumbling around. When you need the SCP, just duck into a shady spot or reconfigure a button to run and shoot.
