It is great for a first computer, it does get warm so I would recommend a fan, a 120mm is the size, no bigger.

    Great Aesthetics and Performance

I`m not one to get into all the specific technical details of the machine as those can be seen in more technical reviews. However, I can firmly state that the components of this PC are more than enough to handle whatever you may throw at it. Firstly though, gaming PCs today are becoming more and more focused on aesthetics to which this PC definitely holds its own. In my opinion, the way HP has built this PC is top notch as the clear side of the case with the LED lighting really makes it stand out on any desk. Touching base on the actual connectivity and peripherals of everything I can definitely say that everything is more than sufficient. The most noticeable difference you will see from your average PC is the SSD that is included as boot up is extremely quick and loading into games is much faster. Though the 1060 isn`t the highest graphics card you can find, for your average gamer it will run every game out on the market today so there is no need to worry if your PC can run a game or not. The 16GB of RAM helps with that as well and definitely assures that this PC will still work with new games for multiple coming years. There are also plenty of enough ports for whatever you may wish to connect as I went through connecting all my numerous devices and still did not run out of ports. As with nearly all prebuilt gaming PCs the mouse and keyboard are lacking and I would highly suggest upgrading in those respects, but outside of there you will be up and running right out the box. Speaking to performance wise I ran your basic games such as Assassins Creed and Fortnite so far and have not had any issues at all and for all other basic PC needs such as word processing and Internet use the speed has been wonderful. Overall I can`t say enough positive things about this PC as everything runs wonderfully and the aesthetics and build quality are top notch from a visual perspective. HP did a wonderful job keeping the cost low to provide a PC of this quality and I would definitely recommend this to those not looking to build a PC of their own, but still desire something of superior quality.

This HP Obelisk desktop is very impressive for my first "Gaming" desktop machine! The specs are great and should give some longevity to the towers lifespan. The tower itself is simple yet good looking case with a big clear panel on one side that shows off it's internal components beautifully! There is a great lighting system as well and the HP OMEN control center gives you full control over the lighting system as well as providing useful information about your pc like cpu and gpu usage and temp. I'm not a huge gamer so telling you that Solitaire and Candy Crush Jelly worked flawlessly won't mean much ;-) I was able to run Forza 4 on it with absolutely no issues whatsoever. But I have to say playing Forza 4 with a keyboard is not the most fun. The included GTX 1060 graphics card worked extremely well for my needs. WiFi and Bluetooth both worked fine as did the many USB 3 connections. My one issue and it's not a big one is that the power buttons location made it a little more involved when trying to push it. For everyday use the Obelisk is probably a bit much but hey if you can why wouldn't you? The 256gb ssd drive makes running apps quickly and easy and while it is a little small to use as main storage the additional 1TB gives you the extra space you need to keep larger files off the ssd. The i7 processor and 16gb of DDR4 ram ensures great performance. The case itself allows for quite a bit of expansion or changes should the need arise. There is even connections to add in a water cooling setup! Kind of bummed that HP only included their basic wired keyboard and mouse setup though. Would have been nice to see a wireless setup but I guess a wired setup is needed in case you have to deal with the BIOS? Note there is no cd/blu-ray disc drive included. For being my first gaming tower I am extremely impressed with the performance and looks of the Obelisk desktop and the added features will allow me to upgrade as needed making it a very good value as it adds to it's lifespan. It is geared more toward gaming then everyday regular pc use but for me it will be replacing my current HP desktop.

    Incredible Deal... When On Sale

tl;dr Other than my personal concerns over heat, this machine has the specs to run strong for a long time and should be able to handle most of what people throw at it. Ill be reviewing this PC based on the $899 sale price. That price plays a huge point in my five star rating. Pros: $899 is an excellent deal for the specs you get Flagship tier CPU M.2 SSD primary drive with secondary HDD 16gb of name brand ram (Kingston HyperX Fury) Sleek, premium feeling glass paneled case with basic RGB Tool less case with tool less drive sleds Mid range GPU with multiple video out ports in different formats Included mouse and keyboard are sufficient for average day to day use - again, at this price This machine runs very quiet Not much bloatware Cons: Poor heat sinks on the CPU/GPU Micro ATX board (not a huge deal, but a second M.2 port would"ve been great. Had to add a SATA 3 SSD instead) Only one case fan included and only one other fan mount location - before I even booted it for the first time, I added a 120mm fan to the top. More on this later The procedure to add the second fan wasn't straightforward. Not technical by any means, but not as simple as screwing it in either No additional fan headers on the motherboard. I had to use a 3 pin fan hooked up to the LC_PUMP header for said fan 500watt bronze rated PSU. HP probably figures that most people will replace this with a more premium unit Summary All in all, this is a fantastic machine for the $899 price point. While this PC has a non 'K' i7 8700, this processor is fine for my use. 16gb of ram will be plenty for most users, and with a SSD as the primary drive the computer boots and switches tasks incredibly fast. The 3GB version of the GTX1060 may be limiting to some, but again, is fine for my intended use and fitting at the $899 price. There is a second hard drive sled with a SATA power cable conveniently placed next to it by HP so adding my other SSD was as easy as plugging in the cables and formatting the drive (the data cable is not included). The included Omen Command Center program is very intuitive for controlling the RGB lights of the case and for monitoring hardware temps (however, Omen Command Center appears to show CPU socket temp rather than core temp. I also have not had any issues controlling the RGB with it as another reviewer stated). Now, back to what I said about having to add a fan right away. The worst part about this PC is cooling potential. There is nowhere in the case to add any intake fans. The only real places for air to enter the case is a screened grill on the bottom of the case (the screen can be removed for cleaning) and a thin screened slit running the height of the case on the right side of the glass panel. One small exhaust fan on the back isn't going to be efficient enough which is why I added a 120mm fan to the top. The stock heat sinks are also pretty bad - in my use, temps get into the upper threshold of their operating range. They don't get hot enough to thermal throttle, but it personally makes me a bit uneasy. If it gets to the point where it bothers me enough Ill replace the thermal compound with a premium one to see if that helps before completely replacing the heat sinks. The GTX960 in my old rig never had a heat problem under max load. Ive been building computers for a few years now and the reason I say this is an awesome deal at $899 is because at full price of $1199, and considering this is marketed as a 'builders' PC, I would like to see better heat sinks, better case airflow, 2x8gb ram instead of the included 1x16gb, the 6gb version of the GTX1060, and a full size ATX motherboard. If I had spent $1199, this review would be four stars if not possibly three stars. Otherwise, other than my personal concerns over heat, this machine has the specs to run strong for a long time and should be able to handle most of what people throw at it.

With this HP Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 - 1TB Hard Drive + 256GB SSD I feel have a great alternative gaming PC at good price!! boots up fast and works smooth under heavy processing. Easy to upgrade and the side of the case is transparent gives it very nice looking. I have been using it for 3 days and no concerns about heat and sluggish performance. Omen log is RGB and lights up nicely and customizable.

    Blazing fast computer!

I will start by saying this is a screaming fast computer! Right out of the box its a very simple and sleek design. Basically a square box and the left side is all glass so that you can see the insides and there are LED lights inside. They are totally customizable so you can set it to whatever colors you want. There is also a logo on the front that lights up and you can change the color of that as well. On the top of the case you have 2 USB ports a headphone jack and a microphone jack. This brings me to my first problem with this computer. There is NO card reader! I had taken some pics with my camera and wanted to put them on my computer so I popped out the card and went to slide it in the computer...and there inst anywhere to put it., I think in this day and age and for the price of this machine, a card reader should have been included. One other small grie is the power button. Its very small and sits almost flush to the case so you kind of have to dig your nail in to push it to turn it on. I think that could be made a little easier to power on as well. Other than that, I like the overall design, fairly simple and easy to access everything. As far as performance, this thing is FAST! When you push the power button, its about 6-7 seconds before the windows login screen comes up. Gone are the days of waiting 2-5 minutes for your computer to start up. The solid state main hard drive is a big plus! The 16 GB of RAM and the GTX 1060 hard drive give you a very smooth performance whether you are gaming, editing videos, or just watching online videos through YouTube or Netflix. There is also an additional 1TB SATA hard drive included which is great for storing all your files on. You can even add more drives inside the tower if you need more space as well. As far as ports go, there is 7 USB, every kind of monitor port you'd want, mic and headphone...just trust me when I say its loaded up and you wont have a problem plugging in all your accessories (unless its a SD card) One big problem I had though was when I took it out of the box. The box that it came in was in pristine condition. No dents, dings or holes on it. But when I pulled out the tower there was a huge crack down the front of the case. So that tells me that it came from the factory that way. So they really need to step up their quality control. Hopefully someone from HP can contact me to get me a replacement front panel for my computer so I don't have this eyesore on the front. SO between that and the lack of a card reader is why the 2 stars were deducted. Overall its a blazing fast machine and I love it. I just don't love the crack in the front of my case and the fact that I have to go buy a card reader now.

The Pros: You receive decent out of the box PC with good parts that would otherwise run you a few hundred dollars more if you bought each part individually and built it yourself. The case looks nice with powder coated paint in the inside and real good cable management. They left the layout of wires, so you can easily expand storage. I also appreciated that they provided 1 stick of 16GB RAM so if I decide to add more memory, it will be easy just to snap in a new stick of RAM. The included GPU is okay, but it’s not great. The Cons: The upgradability is limited. You can easily upgrade the GPU, RAM, Power unit, and Storage (which should be good enough for most). But the motherboard is small and only has one slot for GPU, you can’t add anymore hardware since it lacks a second PCI slot. It is not easy to upgrade the CPU heatsink since the backplate has no access from other side… you have to remove entire motherboard to gain access to backplate if you want to replace it to add a AIO cooler. Case cooling is limited as the included case fan is smaller than industry standards, so you can’t add a liquid cooled radiator to the back. It does have space for a single fan radiator on top, but there isn’t space for a duel fan RAD anywhere on the case. The CPU is not a K intel, so you can’t overclock it. Overall, I am still happy with the Desktop out of the box. I did make some upgrades to it already. I installed a GPU EVGA Hybrid 1070 with AOI liquid cooler and a Corsair AIO liquid cooler for the CPU. Due to the limited space in this case, I was forced to install the GPU radiator on the bottom of the case which isn’t ideal. I setup up the bottom GPU radiator to pull air from the bottom and drilled some holes to screw in and secure the radiator to the bottom (behind the power supply). The top CPU radiator pushes air out form the case. The cool thing about this case it has a removal bracket on the top to install a radiator easily.

I'm a fairly casual gamer and a tech enthusiast and I was absolutely delighted to get this setup. I've been in the build and upgrade cycle for the past 20 years -- starting from Diablo, the system requirements of the games have pushed my builds and upgrades. Historically I'd build a system on the best motherboard I could afford at the time and upgrade components as long as the architecture could support it. This is the first time I got a purpose-built OEM desktop computer for gaming. I got the performance I was hoping for with this configuration -- I can play all my favorite games at the highest quality settings. The case has plenty of airflow and it didn't produce any fan noise, even after hours of fantasy RPGs and SciFi shooters. You can see from the pictures that it has a fantastic look to it; the front logo and the interior case lights care customizable for colors. The glass side gives an awesome view of what's going on inside, and the cable management is really good. There's plenty of room for a full-size video card; the 1060 it came with fits in quite nicely. The case is easy to open and there's lots of room to work in there -- but -- I was pretty stunned at how limited it is for upgrading. There's one pcie slot for the video card, but no other expansion slots at all. There's one open SATA port and power wiring to add one drive, but there's no opening in the case for an optical drive. There's an open memory slot, but I'm not sure if I'd really find any benefit from more RAM. There is a header to plug in a liquid cooling system. That's about all I could find for expansion options. I was bummed to find it only had 1/8" plugs for audio, so you only get stereo analog sound output. Digital or optical sound outputs would be really nice. I just can't imagine a practical configuration for computer speakers to take advantage of the digital sound output from the HDMI jack, so you don't get any surround sound or subwoofer output. I was super disappointed by the slim line chicklet keyboard that comes with it. It's just entirely unsuited for gaming. I'm sure that gamers would already have a keyboard or would be willing to shop for their own, but it would have been nice if the keyboard had taller keys with more travel. The initial setup was really clean. No significant bloatware, and the HP software is well-contained and very useful. You get to all of the HP utilities from one app. I've been happily using it for a few weeks now, and the performance has been solid. With the quality of this rig, there's just no reason for me to want to build my own machine.

Fast, powerful, quiet. Discrete graphics card so it can be upgraded in the future and looks like a second RAM slot is open if i ever need to upgrade the RAM. Only thing missing is a DVD drive but i guess in all honesty everything is downloaded nowadays so outside of some legacy software i wont miss it. (External DVD drive isnt that expensive either)

I'm an engineering student that uses AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and MATLAB frequently. This PC can handle the most complex of 3D CAD drawings thanks to the 16GB RAM. Large codes on MATLAB run well due to the 8th gen i7. The GTX 1060 easily handles my 1440p ultrawide monitor. I also have a 4K TV that I sometimes connect through an HDMI cable to stream some sports while also doing work on the monitor. Even when I have a game streaming on the TV, CAD open on my monitor, and installing/downloading files the PC stays quiet and cool. Yes the specs are great but the best part of this PC is the case in my opinion. It's heavy (I believe it's all-metal) and the clear window is a nice touch. The lights are easily changed with the OMEN program on the PC. Parts can be easily upgraded/added as mentioned in other reviews.

I got a great deal on this gaming PC. I opted for a desktop after buying and returning a new MacBook. I was very frustrated with the need for multiple adapters to get the Mac to do what I needed it to. This PC has more than enough ports for the multiple monitor set up I needed. Everything about this PC is better than the MacBook I returned, from the graphics, storage, and the Uber fast processor. It’s really much more computer than I needed but for the price I couldn’t beat it. Still love Macs for their overall usefulness and longevity but I feel like this PC will more than suit my needs without the need to upgrade it for a long time to come. This PC is a great deal if you can get it for under $900.

My 7 yr old computer was not able to run the flight simulator program well, so with Windows7 support end date coming, decided to get new computer with separate video card and Intel7 chip for performance improvement without breaking the bank. Also wanted mid size SSD for faster boot-up and program response. Very pleased with performance running flight simulator. Initial set up was straight forward by answering on screen questions, then going back though each topic one by one to insure privacy settings, etc. Loaded Office and a few other programs on it for home use. As noted by others, keyboard and mouse are low end so I used my older ones. For a few $ more it would have been nice if they would have included DVD drive to help load programs vs have to get a portable one. Not a gamer, but it is interesting to have clear panel with different lights show through. Good value if you want a bit more performance for some programs that are video intensive. Happy with purchase and can practice my IFR approaches. Love the 25 sec boot up time with SSD.

This will probably be my last computer because I'm 74. And it will hold everything I will need till whenever. It is so much faster and easier to view with the new monitor. So far I love it. The only thing I think needs GREAT improvement is with the Software companies that make it so hard to transfer info from one computer to another especially when you've had to upgrade an existing program to a newer version. Like Outlook. Quicken was easy. We'll see how Printshop does.

This is a great gaming computer for someone that wants a solid computer without the hassle of building it themselves. With the sale price it easily saves hundreds of dollars on a similar spec'd computer you get from a build site. The SSD makes for a lightning quick startup, while 16GB RAM, 1060 graphics and 8700 are solid specs to get >60 FPS on games at high/ultra settings.

I found this treasure for way less than what HP was willing to sell for this same build and it was definitely worth every penny. Out of the box, this gaming PC is good to go with an easy set up and components that wont even require an upgrade for a good long while. I cross shop tons of PC parts and this build is solid and capable of running most games at ultra specs and very quick to boot. Another pro, HP designed this PC to be upgradeable if you so choose so I was able to mount an extra 1TB SSD to the only open slot for hard drives (only one extra slot that I've found). Expect this PC to run a bit hot with only two small fans keeping it cool with one small fan for exhaust out the back and the mounted CPU fan. There is a bracket on the top of the case I was able to add extra 120mm fan for cooling which dropped my temperatures significantly but dont expect a lot of room in this small case. You can add liquid cooling but I have yet to try it. Overall, this PC is great for the entry PC gamer and is open to future upgrades though not required. I highly recommend upgrading the cooling as soon as you can and keep those temps low.

I bought this during a sale at my local Best Buy. I am a in my mid 30's with kids so I don't game like I used to. I consider myself casual gamer, but I used to play lots of PC games in my 20's. Needless to say, I've been wanting a gaming PC to play GTA 5 on ultra at 1080p 60 FPS. Biased on my research, I thought that this PC configuration could handle this, but it struggles from time to time dropping down to 30FPS. I tweaked it a little, but it still drops. I'm a little disappointed because I thought the GPU brought duel cooling fans based on the pictures on the website. The GTX Nvidia 1060 3gb on this PC only comes with one heat sink / fan. I wish the GPU had more ability to cool it self as I am able to overclock and get GTA 5 to run smooth on ultra, but after 5 min the GPU gets too hot and crashes. I wanted a out the box PC that could handle this one game, but now it appears I need to invest in another GPU or perhaps adding water cooler for GPU. Overall the rest of the PC is awesome, it boots up so fast... faster than by Macbook Pro. The CPU is good and it has room for some expansion, I just wish the GPU had duel fans as shown in the pic above, perhaps that would make the difference.

We use this machine for editing videos, so on top of a power microprocessor, we also needed the graphics capability, and RAM. This machines provides all of these and with the SSD drive, gets the OS stuff running fast. Easy to setup out of the box, connects well to the home network and it is off to the races. The clear enclosure window is a nice "wow" factor.
