I bought this to replace my other Onkyo receiver that would overheat, quit, then come back to life. It eventually did not come back to life. This has so many inputs for everything even a turntable. I can also with an adapter input my computer so I can listen to internet music. I haven't figured out how to use the internet radio feature yet, but that will come. The only reason why I could not give it 5 stars is although it says is XM/Sirius, you have to purchase another tuner that is compatible and my mini tuner which fit the other one will not connect.

This is a great piece of equipment and it does what it does quite well. Volume control is smooth and the remote is laid out & organized well. Hook up literally took minutes. I have a graphic EQ and this receiver does not have inputs to recognize that (outdated..) piece of equipment. It you want a receiver that accepts an EQ, get an Onkyo with a tape loop. No distortion and physically, an attractive unit. It does get warm with use so make sure she has room enough to vent. I think you'll enjoy this unit.

This receiver provide high quality sound with ample power. I connected two sets of Bose speakers and they provide lively sound. I also like lots of input selections including FM and iPod. Although I have not tried Internet radio yet. Some of the buttons on the front panel are confusing, but it's minor issue for me as I won't touch them in my normal use.

Bought this Onkyo receiver specifically to stream music playlist for a wedding. Together with Cerwin-Vega speakers this amp is very powerful with great sound quality. Used this setup for the wedding reception and it performed flawlessly. Kept the receiver in the house for the wireless connection and ran 125 ft of speaker wire to the tent. No loss of power or sound quality detected. Very satisfied. For less than the price of a DJ I got this great receiver, two super speakers, and a CD changer to keep.

I bought this receiver for my outdoor space to drive a pair of speakers plus a second zone in the yard. Setting up the wifi with the separately purchased adapter was extremely easy. The options for internet radio are plentiful, and I haven't had any issues with interruptions in the audio. The app for iPhone for controlling the device is one of the big pluses for me, since I have the unit in a location that makes it inconvenient to use the standard remote or to adjust settings on the unit itself. As long as I have wifi on my phone, I have been able to control every feature I've needed thus far. The response time using the app is instantaneous, and allows you to adjust everything from main power to pandora station. This makes it very convenient for adjusting volume, station, source, and EQ without carrying the remote around. Overall this is a great unit for the price, and the ability to receive digital signals is a huge plus.

I love the fact I can load songs & albums on to a flash drive and play them. I have 32 GB and it can hold hours of music. I no longer have a CD player so this is a great feature.

A TV should not be necessary for a 2-ch recvr

This receiver is great if you plan to use the included IR remote and have a TV in the room with your 2-ch system. If you plan to use this receiver for any other setup, you will be disappointed. I got this receiver to run a set of speakers on my roof patio that is 2 floors above my living room where the speaker wires terminate. I wanted a receiver that I could turn on and off, control source and volume with an iOs app...the fact that this also has the internet/pandora features of my Grace tuner was a bonus. The problem is the iOs app displays a message that says "see TV" when you try to use any of the network radio functions. This problem can be overcome by using a third party, not free, app that displays what would normally display on the TV screen and this app is more stable then Onkyo's app (but that's not saying it's stable). The other major issue for my setup is that if the unit is off, the Ethernet is off...so you cannot power it UP from the iOs app :( The Grace app and Apple remote apps DO NOT have this problem and they have built in wi-fi, this receiver is wired only and the optional USB dongle is unusable.

    Audio Receivers Meet the Internet!

I really like the way you can configure the internet radio stations to play the kind of music you like. Pandora is great at this. I just got a new apartment and it has a wired speaker system with 8 sets of speakers (!) so I needed to figure out what kind of audio system to set up. I settled on a Niles amp with 12 sets of posts for speakers. So I was looking for a tuner with pre-outs that I could feed into the Niles amp. The Onkyo 8050 has this and has an ethernet port you can connect directly to your internet access point. The one improvement they could make is to have a more robust setup system for connecting to internet radio. For example, my Pandora ID is my email address. On the unit, there is no @ character. So anyone with an email address ID cannot connect to Pandora. The solution: Use the iPhone Onkyo Remote 2 app. Your iPhone has all the characters you need. So I completed the connection using that. But you should really be able to do it all from the unit itself.

I'm SO happy I went with 2 channels instead of all this new multi-channel A/V stuff. I think; that they kind of force us into this purchase, as all these thin T.V.'s sound even thinner. The one I bought into [a Panasonic] has just the optical output so I needed a amp with that. I also bought some Bowers and Wilkins 6.5's. Streaming web radio sounds incredible. >>>DO NOT SKIMP ON SPEAKERS!<<< ... and beware of those little plastic [shipping?] covers on the ends of those pesky fiber optic patch cords.

I bought this because it connects to the internet. This replaced Kenwood's KRV9080 (1997 0r 1998 model). The sound quality of the Kenwood is much better than this Onkyo. I am using the same speakers, which are PSB Stratus Bronze. The sound has a hollowness to my ears. Unfortunately I sold the Kenwood or I would get a network tuner to add to the Kenwood and sell the Onkyo. This Onkyo has preouts so I am using it as a tuner/preamp with a Parasound 125 w/ch power amp. This setup makes for a great sounding system. Internet radio (Pandora, etc) has become a must have for me.

Stopped Using It - Collecing Dust On My Shelf

The Onkyo TX-8050 was a waste of my money. Within a month or two of purchasing it I stopped using it. It cannot stream music at all. It will start to play a song and ½ through it will start to buffer, play a little bit more, then buffer some more. Sometimes you may get lucky and it will play 2-3 songs before it starts buffering. But don’t get your hopes up. The streaming will gradually get worst and worst and eventually you will not be able to play anything and the system will lock up and you will have to power it off. I have updated it to the latest firmware 1041-1000-0000-0000 and that has not helped. The unit is connected directly to a network port on my 1GB/s router via a CAT6 network cable. The same router my PC is connected to. I can play music all day on my PC and it will not buffer one little bit, but the Onkyo TX-8050 can’t even play 3 songs in a row. I have given up and have gone back to my PC to list to music from Rhapsody. I only use the Onkyo TX-8050 to play CDs. Oh and by-the-way, I can’t get a single radio station on it either.
