Positive feedback also highlights its suitability for gaming. However, some users found the low-latency game mode to be suboptimal, and others experienced lower brightness than expected. This unit is a nice video game projector with tons of features.... That don't work. It's HDR but only the bare minimum. My Xbox one x is set at 2% on the HDR setting, any more washes the screen out. Getting a good picture is a chore. The brightness has to be low and the contrast very high. But when you dial it in games look great. Movies on the other hand don't look as good, especially dark scenes. It's game mode looks terrible and using it locks out all the settings. Even things like keystone adjustment. But I didn't notice any extra lag in normal modes so I just don't use it. The 2.0 HDMI is super annoying in that it constantly searches for signal. There is a signal lock in the settings but it won't let you change it. Also anything less than 4k content on the 2.0 HDMI looks really bad. I assume this is because of it using the better 4 mirror matrix (8.3 million pixels) and not the 2 chip pixel shifting. The 1080 HDMI works fine but it's a 4k projector so I want to use it as such. The 3d works fine but if you don't need that you can get the UHD30 for cheaper. I have this unit in a pitch black theater and it needs it. Any light at all really hurts the image. All in all it does its job but it's low latency game mode is useless and that was it's biggest feature. I would recommend spending a little more for something great or a little less for something just as good.

I wanted to like this projector. I still want to like this projector. But since it arrived it only projected dissapointment vs cinematic grandeur. I currently have a basic Epson 2030 1080p projector. Nothing fancy. To me it looks pretty good and the whole family enjoys it. That is my reference point so you know the bar is not that high. This projector, on its highest settings was half as bright as the epson. Now keep in mind this thing is rated at 3400lumens whereas the Epson is only 2000. Yes, I know LEDs vs DLPs will behave differently with white light and colors. The rating disparity vs the reality was too much to ignore. I honestly think something was defective with this unit. I hope that was the case. It was much too dim for its ratings. Adjusting brightness, never brightened it, it only washed out colors. Even the "bright" setting had no effect at all. The lens also had a scratch or crack on it. I cant tell, but who wants that. On the plus side, the detail was incredible - when you could discern it. There was no light band around the edges that so many folks complain about. Then again there was not much light anywhere to speak of. Well, except on the cieling. If Optoma could harness all the light that leaks out the side through the fan vents and use that on the screen then they might have a winner. The fan was quieter than my epson on normal mode to normal mode comparison. Didnt even try ECO on the Optoma as I wouldnt have been able to see much at all. At first I thought I was crazy. Maybe it was just me. Then my 9 year old came in, not know anything about a new projector. He took one look and asked "whats wrong with the big TV screen?" I knew then it wasnt me and that I was not paying $1600 for this "upgrade". Checked cables, checked settings, etc. Hooked 4k Roku directly to this projector and matched it to a my old one. Results in pic show UHD50x on left, the Epson in ECO mode on the right. The epson was so much brighter that the photo actually got a little oversaturated. To Optomas credit, they agreed with me that it shouldn't be like this. they offered to look at it and replace it. However, having just bought it, that would have made it ineligible to return, a chance I was not willing to take. They were great, and honestly this review is for them - PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. On AVS Forums there are lots of folks who love their UHD30s and UHD50x and lots who say they are the worst thing ever. I have to hope its just issues with this new model. I may try again soon, but for now, lets hope they take note. Their support is the only reason for 2 stars. Buyers beware - check our your unit as soon as you get it. You may get lucky and get a winner, but dont let you return window expire and be stuck with a dud.

I purchased this unit after owning other projectors with 1080P resolution. The Optoma is an absolute winner, currently showing a 120 inch diagonal image in UNBELIEVABLE 4k resolution. Every high-quality video that I have played through this unit is truly breathtaking, and the brightness in a properly darkened room is actually startling when you see it in person. At 6 inches from the screen, individual pixels are impossibly small and perfectly clear. Completely worth the price of admission. Shown next to a 50 inch LCD in attached photo for size comparison.

    Issues with signal

This projector was easy to install and the setup was OK, however I had issues when using HDMI 2.0 and trying to watch 4K. Sometimes I could watch fine, sometimes at random loosing signal and re-syncing every 1-2 min, which was annoying. Tried different cables and same problem. On HDMI 1.4 I had no problem so I assumed it was something wrong with the port not particularly the cable. I decided to exchange the projector and see If the problem would persist. Exchanging this particular model is not simple because it’s always sold-out. BestBuy doesn’t seem to restock often that model, so I decided to go with UHD30, which is the same but with no vertical lens shift, making it more inflexible for mounting. Regarding picture, uhd50x has a bright picture quality, definitely worth the 4K, not so much the hdr, gaming is nice, didn’t notice lag on normal mode, didn’t like the game mode because the quality of picture is much worse. Optoma should change the cheap looking remote- it’s also so bright I could use it as a flashlight. I will return to review the uhd30 when it arrives, it takes about a week to ship it right now

Overall disappointed in this projector. limited distance range forced a complete reinstall of the mounting location. This projector must be mounted near the top of the screen (ceiling mount) or near the bottom of the screen (sitting on a table). not very flexible. Even though advertised lumens are supposed to be higher, basically performs at the same level as my 8 year old Panasonic projector. positives: light weight, quiet negatives: terrible menu navigation (needs larger font), no flexibility in installation location, dimmer than advertised

Hello, the projector features a 1.3x zoom and 10% vertical lens shift. UHD50X is a entry level gaming projector. Depending on the throw ratio and zoom of the previous projector, it is important to plan before installation.

The OSD is design to utilize a small portion of the screen as to allow on the fly adjustments. A higher resolution would utilize more of the screen thus making adjustments difficult.

Perceived brightness will depend on the display mode, source, and content viewed.

If you still have the projector, please contact customer service, they will be happy to assist with any questions or issues you may have. :-) OptomaTechnology

A white pixel appeared after just 18 months and the warranty is only 12 months. It would cost $600 to have it repaired or $200 to buy a replacement chip, but to get to the chip you have the break down the whole machine. Not the quality that should be expected for a $1600 device! The issue is common across many customers when searched. Never buying Optoma.

This is a fantastic projector. Definitely a fantastic upgrade from my previous 720p Epson HomeCinema Projector. Some may feel intimidated to spend such money on a projector like I was but this was more affordable than other 4K projectors. The colors are vibrant, the bulb is extremely bright, and the image is so freaking clear and sharp. I initially bought a 75inch 4K Samsung tv to use in our garage but soon after bought this as well and now we use this more than the big tv! Especially if you pair this with a nice affordable surround sound system, you can feel completely immersed and it’s becomes your new stay at home movie theater. All we do is watch movies and tv shows so believe me when I say it’s 100% worth every penny. Plus gaming on this projector is also Epic!

Let me start by saying this is my first projector. I've been waiting for one with excellent movie and game playing capabilities. This projector did not disappoint. The 4K HDR picture is amazing. Like most projectors, the picture looks best with minimal ambient light but even with the lights on, the picture still looks good. Playing games on my XBox One look and play great in enhanced game mode. I do notice the lag, if I am not playing in that mode. I purchased DLP-Link 3-D glasses and that also looks amazing.

I finally retired my Panasonic 1080 P projector and made the jump to 4k. I can't wait to get my Xbox series x and put this pj through its paces. Only complaint is when I set it up, this projector was less flexible to setup than my 10 year old Panasonic. I had to move my mount 4 feet closer to the screen. Not cool.

    Poor quality, lifespan

HDMI 2.0 port will randomly cut out while gaming/streaming content, searching for source, which is extremely annoying. After 15 months the DMD chip is already failing, showing stuck white pixels. I didn't even get a full bulb lifespan out of it before the chip failed. For $1600 get another brand like benq or Epson. I contacted Optima USA and they refuse to repair it for free as it's 3 months outside warranty. I will have to use the Maine implied warranty law with Best Buy. The projector is pretty bright, but colors arent that great. For a pixel shifting 4k projector it really doesn't look any better than a 1080p projector in the same price range. The fan is pretty loud. Like I said, for $1600 go in another direction, the input latency at 4k isn't any better than other projectors.

Saw the very good reviews on YouTube and decided to give it a try. Out of the box setup was easy and looked great! Except, when I tried the 3d and it was bad. It looked as though the focus point was really off. Had to return it and there was a 200 dollar restock fee.
