    I purchased an air tv about a month ago, Assuming you have a good hd antenna it does what it's advertised to do, it easily records ota programming. I would, however, like to see two enhancements. The 1st being the ability to adjust the recording start and stop time. On several occasions the program I've tried to record has actually started recording late even though the program was aired at it's scheduled time. The second enhancement I'd like to see concerns forwarding or rewinding while watching a recorded show. The air tv does not show a preview pane while forwarding or rewinding making it a little difficult determining where you'd like to resume watching. Overall though, this is a pretty nice dvr for $100!

    Don't purchase this junk like I did. It needs a Sling TV app on your Android/iOS/Fire TV to function. You CANNOT register for a new account without first entering your credit card info and signing up for a free trial subscription to their online streaming service. Will it still let you access the app to use the Air TV DVR box after the free trial expires? Who knows. Because they want you to pay $$$ for a subscription AirTV basically hides the fact that you can use the AirTV for free with a different type of an account in their AirTV app BUT you cannot use the product as intended. The AirTV app will not let you use the device as a DVR at all. You cannot pause, record, or rewind when using the AirTV app to access the streaming box. Another huge thing to note is the fact that the video stream constantly cuts out for a split second on ALL channels and this is when viewing on a local network. I can only imagine how horrible streaming quality is away from home must really be. TLDR; AirTV is a garbage product that is made by an incompetent company and belongs in the BestBuy's recycling bins.

We try to make clear that you are able to sign up for a guest account for the Sling app free of charge, no credit card required through our DVR page as well (https://www.airtv.net/airtvdvr/) though you can do that directly through https://www.sling.com/airtv .

    The DVR is a great addition to airtv but does not work as advertised. There are so many bugs it's hard to know where to start. DVR disconnects drive and then reconnects when turning on the tv ... It causes 3 pop up notifications every time you turn on the TV. Constant buffering of recordings and it buffers frequently when trying to record and watch the program at the same time. Every recorded program that was over 3 hours (ie football game) disabled the fast forward function. It would look like it was fast forwarding but then would restart the program from the beginning. We lost several recordings when trying to watch and record at the same time. They became corrupted. Cannot pause TV while watching. Just a really bad dvr option. There are many other better products out there.

    Watch or record, but not both at once

    It can record OTA programs, and then replay them later just fine. What it can't do well is stream live TV. It'll go about 10 minutes just fine, and then start stuttering and dropping out. Although the Sling app complains about "the network," the problem only appears -- and always appears -- while streaming live TV. I thought at first I had just bought a bad one, so I got a replacement. Nope. Since it can always play back a recording, the complaint about network bandwidth is an incorrect diagnosis. Since a second product behaved the same way, we can rule out a manufacturing defect. It's an engineering design flaw. There's a new AirTV 2, but I'm afraid to try it -- they haven't ever acknowledged the live streaming issue, so it's unsafe to assume they've addressed it. Note that it works perfectly well recording and playing back. If that's all you need, it's a fine product. For me, though, not so much.

    Problems we have.

    I like the idea, but have a problem. At least once every couple of hours, the device switched from what you are watching to the apps. Have complained to AIR TV, no help there. Have no idea what the problem is, we have 2 AIR TV devices, one in frontroom and one in a bedroom, happens on both devices.

    Audio and picture quality really suffers when watching sports through the AirTv and AirTv 2. I can get over the picture quality. However listening to a game is extremely difficult. Sound is very muffled. It happens on all 4 TV's I have. When I connect antenna direct to TV problem solved. But that takes away from the point of having an AirTv

    Worst experience with Airtv

    I had the previous version to this airtv player and it is the worst piece of garbage I have ever bought from bestbuy. The concept that airtv has might seem promising but the quality and performance is so lacking that i would prefer rabbit ears wrapped in tinfoil than this crap. It cuts off mid viewing, resets itself, freezes and mind you I have a rediculously fast internet with great WiFi signal. I got so frustrated I cancelled sling and I’m glad I did since I got a cheaper player with YouTube tv which is way far advanced and offers unlimited cloud Dvr service and the ability to stream 6 TVs at one time on the same account. Sling is old and antiquated like this player. Buy a Roku it’s far more reliable.

    Black box AirTV still in Beta Design

    Do NOT buy the black box AirTV!!! I've been on the phone for the past month with AirTV trying to figure out why my AirTV DVR is not recording!!! They even blamed the WD Element external hard drive that they recommended I buy. Every time I try to record anything, I get error message 16-465. AirTV says that I'm the first person to get this message, so that have no idea when this software problem will get fixed. AirTV also won't send me their old version (blue and white box) as a free replacement. So, now, I'm stuck with a non-recording AirTV black box!!

      Hi Angela - we regret that you have had a difficult time with the device, and have been posting this over a variety of forums. In most circumstances we could assist in crediting the transaction and purchasing the new device, however in your case, your device was given to you free from Sling as part of a prepay promotion (there is not a transaction to credit).
      As our products have different price points, a purchase of an AirTV Player would be required, rather than simply swapping devices out. We apologize this is the case, but we would be happy to assist you in any way we can with resolving and reporting the issues you're encountering.     HD artifacts galore

    This would get 5 stars if I didn't receive artifacts in the stream. HD channels have horizontal artifacts during fast picture motion that makes this product not worth using. My internet speed is 10 Mbps which I feel is good enough for HD but apparently not. I don't know if it's my internet speed or if it's the box itself. Not quite ready for the big time. Sorry guys.

    The support just hung up the phone in the middle of conversation. The WRAL (5.1, NBC) in Raleigh area cannot be streamed while other channels with similar signal strength and orientation have no issue. There are similar reports in the internet. The support is not willing to help anything.

    HORRIBLE SYSTEM, No AirTV Support, not happy

    there is no troubleshooting nor call back with advise on what needs to be done to resolve customers issues... Just describe the issue, go over troubleshooting, then finally a fix or CSR will submit a trouble ticket for the engineers to higher level of support and do we get a callback with results or future troubleshooting that May be needed. NO, WE'RE LEFT IN THE LEARCH. NOTHING NO CALL BACK AND MAKES THE CUSTOMER THINK NOTHING HAPPENED AND THE PROBLEM WILL NEVER BE RESOLVED... Not proper for a company support practices... There are other "Options" for OTA DVR systems, some horrible some a lot better with sunscriptions and youre not the only player in the "Game" and you need to realize this and forward to the "Powers to be" that this completant gets addressed. HORRIBLE.. I am an inch away from returning this AIRTV 1

    Been trying to get this to work for weeks. Had to send 1 box back. Still having issues with the Air TV cutting out. Called Customers multiple times. They are a total joke. They were going to escalate to there software dept. First person told me to call back in a couple of days. 2nd person told me it could be weeks. Was told their company policy is not to call the customer back. Even though they can’t tell me what the issue is. But get this, the supervisor told me she has one at her house and it works great. That makes me feel a lot better knowing hers works but mine doesn’t. Stay away .
