Customers are saying

Customers admire the Defender Pro Series for its excellent protection and ease of use, praising the case's snug fit and high-quality construction. However, some find the case heavy and bulky, and the lack of a screen protector is a common complaint. Other criticisms include the limited adjustability of the stand and the relatively high price point.

I swear by otterbox, every smart phone and tablet ive ever had ive protected with an otterbox and despite my clumsiness and many many drops even from moving vehicles onto asphalt, ive never had any damage to the device itself. I wholeheartedly recommend them. What I do not recommend is purchasing from best buy. I bought this and recieved a product that had clearly been returned after being opened and used by another customer (I did not buy open box, I paid for a brand new item.) But It didnt seem like anything was wrong with the product itself, though I had never had this specific case before so I didnt know all of what should have been included. I thought it was strange that there was an opening on the side for the apple pencil but no cover or anything, but figured it was just what they had to do for this model when designing the case. Later on I was going about my day and saw another defender case for this model ipad and saw that there is actually a cover for it! I was given a product with missing parts but by the time I realized it it was too late to return it. I bought the ipad in the same order and if it wasnt factory sealed im sure theyd have given me it with missing pieces too!. I learned my lesson and do not plan on shopping at best buy again.

I went away from otterbox in favor of slimmer cases and ended up with much more vulnerable devices. The defender adds a lot of bulk to the iPad air, but it definitely feels secure. As others mentioned, the pencil cover is a little finicky.

I bought this for my 8 year old and I was surprised to see there was no screen protector. Which was okay because the last one with a built in was scratched up so I’d rather buy/replace them myself. I HATE the plastic door for the Apple Pencil. It’s cheap, flimsy, and always falls off. It would be nice if they offered one without that feature.

The viewing angle is too vertical to be of any use. This is a major departure from previous models. Note - the Pro model does not include a display protector like the standard model. The case provides outstanding protection but the viewing angle makes it a non- starter.

Overall it has held well for an all around case. The biggest flaw is the Apple Pencil cover that is easily removable with the effort of a pinky finger push. It has come off so many times that the last time it came off was today and evidently it got lost. I have to now submit a warranty claim for the whole case to be replaced for only this small plastic trim piece.

No instructions included, so difficult to figure out how to get my iPad Air in it, but after a while figured it out. Removable snap fit hard shell over doubles as a stand and is a bit awkward to use, particularly in the upright position, but it does function. Very rugged case overall though, which is why I bought it. The soft rubber part that stays on the iPad adds considerable grip as well as protection, and the hole in the back for the Apple logo makes it very easy to hold in your hands. The cover for where the Apple pencil docks constantly falls off; count on it eventually getting lost. Too bad they did not make the cover so it goes over tpencil also; the magnet that holds the pencil is very strong but it still can get knocked off too easily.

My OtterBox Defender Pro for my iPad Air 4th Generation is hands down the best case for travel. It’s super rugged, with a solid multi-layer design that gives me peace of mind when I’m on the go. The built-in screen protector keeps the display safe from scratches, and the port covers help block out dust and debris. I love how the kickstand doubles as a cover, making it easy to prop up my iPad for watching movies or getting work done. Despite its tough protection, it’s still comfortable to hold and doesn’t feel too bulky. Whether I’m tossing it in my bag or using it on a plane, this case keeps my iPad secure, protected, and travel-ready!

Case itself is expensive but very solid. It is bulky but it feels like it offers good protection. There’s a clip on screen cover included that’s very sturdy, but it adds a lot of bulk so I only use it when I put it into a bag. The cover has a bit of a stand built into it, but the stand feels awkward and cheap so I don’t use it. There is also a hard plastic access door on the side where the pencil magnets to the IPad that feels kinda flimsy. I ended up removing, but you might want to leave it in place if you don’t have a pencil. With the door removed the pencil stays in place and doesn’t interfere with the clip on cover.

I'm prone to drop things so asked the Best Buy rep to recommend the best product for me. While it was more than I had wanted to spend, I feel it will protect my investment of a new iPad Air far better than a regular folio, especially when I'm traveling. I had to search for a You Tube video to see how to take it apart in order for the iPad to be placed, but that was easy enough to find. I wish the stand had more than one viewing angle; it's a bit upright for reading. This particular model doesn't come with a plastic screen protector.

Top class protection for your supercharged M1 iPad

This is a phenomenal case for my latest generation iPad Air with the M1 chip. When you snap the case together it is practically seamless and the TPU rubber layer fits tight and snug. The plastic door for the Apple pencil is something that I do shake my head at but, I guess it is the only solution that OtterBox could come up with. These guys have been building these cases for a long time now so I do trust their judgment as far as this solution is concerned. The only other alternative was the completely sealed off the Apple pencil connector but then, how would you charge your Apple Pencil with your iPad. The only drawback is that these days, OtterBox is not incorporating a built-in screen protector anymore. Who knows, that probably had a lot to do with customer feedback as people were not big fans of those built-in plastic screen protectors even though they did provide splash protection. Also, it could be a money grab because the tempered glass screen protectors for these things can cost as much as the cases themselves. Glass is glass so I did not get the most expensive glass screen protector that you can get for one of these I simply found an insignia from Best Buy on sale. I would recommend this case to any iPad Air fifth generation owner

Wonderful OtterBox case for my new Apple iPad Air! I wish there was a compartment to hold my Apple Pencil!! There is a spot to a open to allow the pencil to magnetically stay attached to the iPad, but then it would mean that the case is open on that side, so the pencil could possibly fall out. Maybe not, love the case anyway. I just wish that it had the front clear protective screen that the older models always came with...paid a lot fir this case and I still had to purchase a clear protective screen to cover the front.

(Pros) It's made tough and built to last. Has a stand that's on a separate lil hard shell that you can use to cover your case. It fits like a glove. It's made so you can use your finger print to sign in etc etc. It has an place so you can charge your apple pencil up to the iPad. Still have room for screen protector. Good price when it's on sale and it comes with a warranty. (Cons) The stand is not made on the case it's on the hard shell. It stands straight up when you use the stand and it may tilt over when you use it.
