The LX100 is a very, very good camera. It's perfect for any advanced photographer that wants a camera that they can carry around without bringing extra lenses. The leica lens on this is excellent, and at f/1.7 it is still very sharp. The 4k video recording is excellent, as well as the rest of the video functions- face tracking, stabilization, etc. Excellent ergonomics and size. It also looks really sleek and professional.
I would only recommend this to an advanced user since it is has all the manual controls of a DSLR, and it's not that easy to just pick up and shoot.
To be perfectly honest, the only other small, high-quality, pro-sumer camera that i would buy instead of this would be the Sony RX100 mk IV, but that is a few hundred dollars more, with a few different features.
I only wish this camera had a slightly smaller lens when it's turned off, and the price is a little higher than it should be. Other than that its a great camera.

Overall a very good camera for its size. Good image quality and lots of manual settings on switches instead of in menu. But the exposure dial gets moved easily against the body if you have shoulder strap like mine and camera hangs on the side near the waist. Because of this, I am returning the camera because 80% of the time I took the picture and noticed it being too dark, and saw the dial got moved to -3 EV on the dial. If you carry it other ways, I guess it would be perfect.

RX100 IV or LX100?

At first, I was in the process of finding a small, compact camera that was great for video. I was looking for something to complement my 5D Mark iii as a second camera. It came down to two cameras - Sony Rx100 IV or the Panasonic LX100.
The biggest features I looked for were:
-4K video
-Ability to shoot in a flat profile
-Wi-Fi
-Good low light performance
-Shallow DOF (depth of field)
In short, both of these cameras are amazing for what they do. Both offer the above features. The sole reason I chose the LX100 was due to the fact that it had a larger sensor, thus giving it a more shallow DOF as well as better low light performance. Yes, it doesn't have as many megapixels (rolls eyes), but it makes up for that in clean low light images.
Recently, I used the camera on a wedding as my second camera. Very pleased with quick auto focus and the RAW images had a great deal of dynamic range. Overall, this is the best compact camera on the market today.

Great Camera for the Photo-Enthusisast Traveler

I wasn't trying to replace my Canon 60D, but instead find a camera that I could use when I travel. I wanted a high quality reliable camera that was light and portable. It had to have convenient access to basic controls like aperture and shutter speed. It did not bother me if the camera was a point and shoot with a fixed lens. But how often can we afford to purchase a camera with a Leica lens.
The 60D is still my go to camera for planned photo shoots, but now I have the Panasonic DMC LX100 as my go to travel camera.
Italy here I come.......

I was on a business trip and saw some great photo opportunities but I only had my smart phone with me. Needless to say, the photos were not up to my usual standards. So I wanted something with a reasonable size sensor to get decent image quality. I got recommendations for several cameras and did the due diligent research, looking at fixed focal length cameras and MILC cameras for a decent price.
While at my destination, I found an open box model at BestBuy.com that was at a local store. I went in and the camera basically what I was looking for, but the price was a little higher than the bestbuy.com price so the manager got me the online price. The camera has a very useful 24-70mm full frame equivalent focal distance but not an extreme zoom range that can lead to optical distortion. I also like the large aperture.
Again, this is a travel camera that can fit into a travel bag or briefcase when I can't travel with my DSLR kit. Not exactly pocketable but nice for carrying.
Upon getting home, the box was marked "no missing accessories" but I discovered the manual and software was missing. I called the store and the person there found a copy of both items and shipped them to me. Kudos to the customer service from this store. I wish all Best Buy stores were like this when issues are brought to their attention.

I'm taking a star off because the menu text is rubbing off and I can no longer get a cable into the HDMI port (don't know why).
For the purpose of this review, I'm a full-frame snob. That said, this is what I like about the camera.
Panasonic video is always sharp. The 4K video from this camera, down-sampled to 1080 gives the best 1080 I can imagine. However, the depth-of-field is not as shallow as you'd get from a larger sensor camera.
The remote phone app is great, very handy.
The 4K photo mode, in 1:1 mode, allow you to take 30 8 megapixel photos a second and then save the one you like. I use VCL.
The camera is not so small that you can fit it into a pocket. However, it is small and light and won't take up much room in your bag.
I love the "silent" mode. No one ever hears that I'm taking a photo.

We took it for a family trip and couldn't be happier. It is a great size and takes amazing pictures. I give it 4 stars because we had to buy a carrier and memory card. We wish that was included.

Wow, this camera is simply fantastic. It takes absolutely amazing photo's and super quick. I have large hands I find it alright to hold and take photo's. Its fast, responsive, and build quality is very high. I hearitly recommend this camera to even amatures for taking fully automatic pics or to pro's that can fully use all the manual adjustments.

Found this as a discontinued item as an open-box. Got a killer deal on it.
I'll just start with the cons:
- no articulating LCD
- no touchscreen LCD
However, you can solve both of these issues with an old iPhone and a hot shoe iPhone mount. Use the Panasonic Image App and it basically solves those issues.
Pros: Solid build, great image quality, easy to use menus and controls, solid feedback from the knobs, dials and buttons, good battery life, OK size (it can fit in your pocket, but it will look funny).

Almost identical to Leica dlux 109. F1.7 Summilux! Photos are fabulous. Alternative to a dslr for much less bulk.
Much easier to take along.

Awesome point and shoot with a super quick lens, very fast and accurate autofocus, great in low light with the f1.7. Wish the flash was built in but I have really not needed it much at all. S not really an inconvenience. 4 k video is great. Retro look with the individual controls. Intelligent auto not bad at all, but this isn't really meant for using in that mode only. 4x digital zoom still auto focuses fantastically. My only real complaint is the placement of the exposure setting. It can pretty easily be moved unintentionally and you have to be careful to notice your shot turned out over or under exposed because of that. I am now very cognizant of that. But other than that, very worth every penny. This camera is a perfect addition to the GH4 or G7 as a fixed lens partner with pretty much the same capabilities if you are a beginner to early intermediate. Could not be happier!

I bought this camera as an alternative to bringing my pro-class DSLR when travelling. It has good image quality and an eye-level viewfinder. I can't use the rear screen as I am an old SLR user. Anyway the most important part of a camera is the 12 inches behind the viewfinder. Phones have blank space there. Worked well to start but then had a zoom issue requiring turning the power off then on to clear but would not go past 40mm equivalent without having the problem recur.
I haven't received the camera back from Panasonic yet so let's see if it can be repaired and be reliable. Not too sold on it yet. Seems rather fragile compared to my Canon 1 series cameras.

This camera had an amazing lens and features you normally find in larger DSLRs. It would also be excellent for a beginner interested in how to work the manual system in cameras thanks to all the physical buttons and dialers. Image quality is really good.

This camera is awesome. It does about 90% of what I need, in a compact and easy to use package. The only think it lacks is telephoto, but sacrificing that for the great lens and image quality in a small body is worth it.
