A Dark Fantasy World Overrun with Demons not Bugs

The Pathfinder 1.0 ruleset translates well when using turn-based combat. Traveling around area maps make strategic skill choices worth it. The voice acting, controllable companions, NPC's all work well within the main quest narrative. That said there are a lot of glass walls in the 'open world' that reflect for example the edges of a gaming table or map of a town, but can be annoying when planning out combat in a 'corner' when you thought you were at a crossroads etc. Other artistic features of terrain like ladders that lead to roofs etc are just that, so there is no 'climbing' during combat, but there is climbing in certain map areas which requires skill checks for the party etc when not in combat. You can adjust the settings to make turn based combat feel natural and flow quickly, at higher levels you can turn on real time combat to quickly deal with random encounters with low level opponents. Overall this cRPG is much better than Kingmaker, in that screens load faster, no crashes so far in my play through etc I'm playing in 'core' mode which adds more minions into encounters, and companions can die etc At the harder difficulty the game play is similar to real life tabletop play, where multiple characters can drop but not die in encounters. A benefit to playing in the harder mode is that there is some more random loot and ingredients. The demon invasion main quest narrative does make for a post-apocalyptic vibe versus that fantastical sense of exploration and adventure, so if you're looking for a fun bright open world filled with possibility this world is the opposite, but has its own dark souls draw.

Owlcat's second Pathfinder game is a significant improvement over Kingmaker. With exciting moments, great writing, and excellent combat, this is a must-play for CRPG fans.
