This Philips air fryer is great. Perfect for quick healthier fried foods. Like most would say this appliance is perfect for fries, chicken wings, and even friend chicken(small pieces). We tried several. All in one day. We love to eat. We also try to eat healthier where possible so this was perfect as we eat these types of food regularly. We cooked wings. And they came out amazing. Fries too. Though I think I over cooked them. They were home made by my wife. Still tasty. The fried chicken probably came out the best because it’s bigger and thicker so this air fryer cooks those types of food better because the area inside is so confined. We can tell there is way less grease and the crispyness adds a nice little touch. This version has the all digital controls. And for me that’s important. Im a techy so I like those feature. Buttons while they feel like old school style buttons. They work well and should last for yrs to come. I love that this unit has the option where you ca. Pause the machine to mix the food inside. Works great. Just push again and picked up where it left off. Timer allows for plenty of time to cook a variety of foods. Only gripe Is while this is the large version. I wish it was bigger so we could put even more food. Since it’s me my wife and 2 young kids. But we can make do. This also come with a guide book that is actually helpful A bit of advice. I recommend not setting the timer for as long as you would In A conventional oven. Because this thing gets super hot due to the vortex air design. Super satisfied and my wife says she doesn’t have to cook as much now. Plus she says it’s easy to clean. Lol. Definitely a must by if you love cooking but want a healthier take in the not so healthy foods you eat.

Perfect Countertop Air Fryer for Healthy Cooking

The Philips HD974X Digital Hot Air Fryer is a great kitchen addition for countertop cooking without the mess of oil and the potential hazards of stovetop frying.   The setup and use of the Air Fryer was simple. Of course, the first thing I had to try was frozen tater tots. I know that if the cooking in oil instructions calls for 4 minutes, I can triple that for air frying. A turn of the knob sets the temperature, and then a push of the center knob switches to the timer. After 12 minutes, the air fryer notified me it was done, and the tater tots were perfect - golden and crunchy on the outside and moist and hot on the inside. Any oils already in the food falls through the basket and into the base of the unit.   I have also used the Air Fryer for homemade breaded chicken tenders, and oriental meat-filled dumplings. All of the meals and snacks come out cooked, crispy, and free of any excess oils.   Some of the features of this Air Fryer include: • Automatic shut-off. • A cord wrap on the back. • The basin, bake pan, and basket can be removed for cleaning. • Basin, oil catch, and basket are dishwasher safe. • The exterior stays cool during cooking. • A keep warm button. • Four selectable presets for Frozen French fries, Cutlet chops, Chicken drumsticks (and wings), and whole fish filets.  • A non-stick baking pan. • A mobile app for getting recipes (iOS, Android)   I downloaded the Philips AirFryer app for my iPad and found a nice recipe for the chicken tenders. One important note about the app: When you start using it, be sure to go to the settings option and set the units of measure and temperature for your country/area. Even though I selected the USA for the country, the application still used metric measurements.   Overall, I'm happy with the Philips Air Fryer, and I highly recommend it for oil-free cooking.

Wow, I wasn’t sure if I would like cooking with an air fryer but decided to give it a try and I love it! This machine is so easy to use and food comes out tasking wonderful!! It has reduced my cooking time by 1/2! So far Brussels sprouts are my favorite thing I used it for.....they are crispy and full of flavor in 12 minutes!! The machines cleans up easy just by wiping down the basket & fry plate. It’s quiet while in use and the cooking smell is minimal (which is nice when doing Brussel Sprouts)!

It's me and my wife these days and lots of the time we don't want to heat the oven for just the two of us. We took frozen battered chicken strips, cooked them in the air fryer and in 12 minutes had chicken parm that could rival a local Italian joint. The chicken was crispy like advertised and very juicy. No more microwave chicken strips in this house! The fryer is easy to use, and easy to clean. One small issue however. The instructions on the prepackaged chicken said 360 degrees but the machine only increases and decreases in increments of 25. But I set at 350 degrees and everything was fine.

This air fryer is incredibly easy to use, setup, and clean! I have found the best feature to be the preset cooking modes that allow you to switch between frozen vegetables, fish, poultry, and pork and allows you to fine tune the time and temperature before starting. The turn dial makes for an easily precise input and the noise level is about the same as a quiet microwave, making it substantially quieter than most air fryers!

Wow! Frying/grilling has never been easier. We can now enjoy great steaks and fries. We’ve cooked battered fish and shrimps, chicken nuggets and whole Cornish hen, even roasted green peppers and onions. All came out perfect .... well, mostly. What puzzles me is the handbook says never use without the fat reducer although the previous model which is near identical doesn’t come with it.

An Absolute Game Changer for Cooking

If you’ve never owned an air fryer, simply put it is a game-changer for cooking. If you have had one in the past, this air fryer includes a lot of more automated features that will take your cooking to the next level. The Philips Digital Air Fryer is a reasonably-sized countertop air fryer with all digital controls, including presets to eliminate having to look up recipes (time and temperature) for commonly-cooked foods like French fries and chicken drumsticks. Setup was easy, despite a bloated instruction manual (one bullet instruction followed immediately by 10 “tips”). The one problem I had with initial setup, post-unboxing, was a cardboard filler that was placed between the food basket & heating coil that has to be removed. When removed, it left a sizeable piece of the cardboard behind, wedged into the heating coil. Had I not felt that, it could have potentially started a fire, something that Philips should look at revising. For size comparison, the cooking basket can accommodate 4 bone-in chicken thighs. I found the size to be pretty good for cooking for 3, but in the case when I cooked ribeye steaks, I had to cook the (3) 14-ounce steaks one-at-a-time, putting the steaks in the regular oven on the warming setting to make it where everyone could eat at the same time. I would say that if you’re cooking for 2 or 3 this is a perfect size. If you’re cooking for 4 or more, or cook larger meals, this device may be slightly undersized for you. Food Reviews: Two of my first cooks were frozen tater tots and bone-in chicken thighs. Both were cooked PERFECTLY using the simple built-in presets on the device (there are 4 presets: frozen fries, chicken legs, fish, and chops/cuts (pork)). I’ve never had tater tots cooked this well. Crispy on the outside, nearly identical to oil frying, but without the mess. Chicken thighs were unbeatable, cooked all of the way through (something often tough to do whether it’s in the oven or frying in a pan), juicy with a perfectly crisp skin. Juices and oils from the cooking process are captured and contained in the base of the pan which is separate from the food basket, so unlike other cooking methods your food won’t sit in its own grease thus defeating the goal. Manual cooking by setting temperature & time is also possible if you’re cooking something not covered by one of the 4 presets. The one limitation I found with manually setting temperature is the fact that temperatures can only be set in 25-degree increments (i.e. 350, 375, 400). Many recipes online recommend odd temperatures like “Cook at 390 for 12 minutes”. While the difference between 390 and 400 degrees sounds negligible, when cooking at this close of range to the heating element, plus the quickness at which it cooks, 10 degrees can change the cooking time by 1-2 minutes, something you will need to account for. Using frozen chicken tenders as the example, I used 400 degrees for 12 minutes (flipping at 6 minute) when it was recommended online to cook at 390 for 12 minutes. The tenders were still good, but probably within 60 seconds of being overdone. Make sure you account for that disparity in recommended temperature versus what is capable on the device. Cleaning: Cleaning is as simple as throwing the 4 parts that make up the fryer in the dishwasher after emptying the fat collector. Make sure to check the inside of the unit & wipe down, as needed, as well as the heating element where oils may have splattered up. The rest of the exterior of the unit can be wiped down with general kitchen cleaner. App Available: Yes, there is a Philips air fryer app available, but don’t waste your time. The app is critically outdated and only shows a handful of fryers, all of which are older model analog devices. The app is supposed to include recipes, but even the most basic things you would think of cooking (like a simple fried chicken recipe) isn’t listed. I deleted the app by the time I finished my first meal. There are plenty of websites dedicated just to air fryer recipes, so just rely on those (again with the caveat that their recommended cooking temperatures may not align with the Philips device’s 25-degree increment settings). Summary: Buy this. It is an incredible addition to any kitchen, giving you new, faster, and healthier methods for cooking a variety of foods.
