After 19 months the Rubber over Power button wore easily and leads to faulty switch. The seal at the top is turning black with grime despite regular cleaning

Replacing an old worn out version. Wish the handle was a little bigger. Hard to grip with my large hands. Works well. Does not come with a power block, only USB cable. Will need to provide your own.

The Phillips Sonicare 4100 (HX3681/23) is rechargeable vibrating electric toothbrush. The toothbrush comes in multiple colors – mine is the all white version. The toothbrush comes with the charging base, a brush head cover, and a single C2 brush head. There is no USB charger brick, but any USB charger can be used. I have been using electric toothbrushes for awhile now, so I had an idea of what to expect out of the 4100. I originally came from a cheapo Oral-B oscillating brush before I got a Sonicare One, and now the 4100.
I know some folks will complain about the lack of a power brick. I honestly think it’s a step in the right direction. I think I have 4 or 5 USB chargers laying around that I popped in for this. I think that is probably typical for most households to have a spare laying around. This is a step in the right direction to reduce waste and unnecessary electronics. If I hadn’t just replaced my bathroom GFI outlet a year ago I would just upgrade my outlet to one that has a couple of USB ports already in it. Also going to USB power means I don’t need to worry about bringing a charging pack if I travel. I can honestly charge it from my laptop if I need to. However, with a 2 week battery life you can get away without needing to do that for most trips.
Design of the 4100 is pretty standard – it looks exactly what I always expected an electric toothbrush to look like. The entire body is made of a smooth soft-touch plastic. There are no rubbery/grippy surfaces, but rather the size helps maintain your grip. Just above the middle of the brush sits the power button in its own little indented area. It’s a multi-function button – powers the brush on/off and toggles the intensity level (low or high). You don’t have to press-and-hold to activate it, just a simple press. To change the intensity level you press the button again a few seconds after starting it up. The 4100 remembers this choice going forward, which is convenient. The head is replaceable – it simply pulls off. The recommended replacement time for regular toothbrushes is 3 months, and replacements are pretty widely available. You also don’t have to stick with the C2 since the 4100 is compatible with a wide range of Sonicare heads.
The Sonicare One was a solid toothbrush that also worked with high frequency vibrations. The 4100 though takes that up a notch with the strength of the virbations. The vibration is more intense and the pattern of the brush head really changes the feeling on my teeth. Ergonomically the 4100 is easy to hold onto. Even with wet hands I didn’t feel like my grip was failing me. Its also lightweight enough, and only a little bit heftier than the One. Also, switching from high to low sensitivity is easy to accomplish, and it is a noticeable difference.
There are several features from the One that I was happy to see in the 4100. There is a 2 minute vibration timer to help you keep track of how long you have been brushing. That 2 minutes is broken up by a notification pulse every 30 seconds to remind you to switch to a different part of your mouth. I had the habit of spending too long in one area (zoning out while brushing) that this is really helpful for me. There is also a pressure sensor that can cause the 4100 to pulse several times if you are brushing too hard (this is a new one for me). I can’t say I had this come up too often in my regular brushing, so I guess I keep good pressure normally. I can see how these features would be very useful for kids as well. Especially since there are children’s brush heads that are compatible with the 4100.
As far as brushing performance goes I’m happy with the upgrade. The 4100 does a better job with the strength of the vibrations. There’s something with the shape of the head/bristle pattern/vibrations that combine to help pulse the water/toothpaste around my teeth. It’s not quite dentist level cleaning, but it certainly felt more in-depth than my previous brushes. I liked that it was gentle enough on my gums and teeth, since both are sensitive for me. Even on the highest vibration I didn’t experience any discomfort or bleeding. I am pretty happy with it so far, and I have recommended it to my GF who also uses a One, and deals with sensitive teeth and gums.
Overall, this is a good toothbrush. It’s a pretty solid value as far as I can tell. I have zero qualms with it, and I enjoyed getting to try it out.

This toothbrush offers a great entry point for anyone looking to upgrade their oral care routine. The toothbrush features Sonicare’s signature sonic technology, delivering up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute, which effectively helps remove plaque and promotes healthier gums. The built-in 2-minute timer encourages a thorough brushing routine, while the pressure sensor alerts you if you're brushing too hard, ensuring a gentle yet effective clean. Its sleek, simple design is lightweight and easy to handle, making it perfect for daily use. Though it lacks advanced features like multiple cleaning modes or Bluetooth connectivity, the Sonicare 4100 provides solid performance at an affordable price. It’s a reliable, no-fuss electric toothbrush that delivers noticeable results, ideal for those seeking effective oral care without extra complexity.

I am so happy I picked up the Philips Sonicare 4100 Power Toothbrush! I have always loved to have electric toothbrushes, but have always purchased the cheap, AA battery-powered throwaway ones. After using this toothbrush for the first time, I knew I had messed up and should have gotten one of these a long, long time ago! I thought I know what clean teeth felt like, but after brushing with this toothbrush for a couple of days, I know what actual clean teeth feel like. There is so much to love about this toothbrush.
I love that the toothbrush doesn’t have batteries to mess with, and it sits nicely on top of the little discreet charger. The battery life is 2 weeks or 14 days. The battery life alone is incredible, if you must go on a trip for a week, you don’t even need to bring the charging dock. I love that it comes with replaceable heads so there is no need to throw the whole toothbrush out. There is also a LED light on the toothbrush that tells you when your toothbrush head needs to be replaced. I really love the pressure sensor built into the toothbrush, it makes a different pulsing tone and stops the bristle motion, so you don’t damage your teeth or gums. Another cool feature is the built-in 2-minute timer. The toothbrush automatically shuts off after the 2 minutes is up. I love that feature because you can just brush away and don’t have to think about when to stop, the toothbrush will let you know. The bristles the power toothbrush comes with are soft and densely packed, they feel so good sweeping your teeth clean. This brush comes equipped with 2 different intensities of pulsing cleaning power. The Sonicare Fluid Action is where fluid pulses between the teeth and along the gumline really cleaning and getting in there while the bristles take care of the rest.
In all, I am very pleased with this toothbrush. I am disappointed in myself for not getting one of these years ago. I love everything about this toothbrush from how it cleans, the features, and how it looks. It fits perfectly on the bathroom vanity and takes up minimal space all while looking awesome. I absolutely recommend this product!

An updated must have for oral healthcare

I have been a long time user of the Philips Sonicare line of powered toothbrushes. I was recommended by my Dentist about 17+ years ago to procure an electronic toothbrush to improve my oral health. Originally used the battery-operated Oral-B brand rotational brushes, but quickly switched over to the Sonicare line and I've never looked back. A version of the Sonicare toothbrush has been at my side and has travelled the world, but there has been one part of that experience that I am glad this new version has fixed.
You see, the older Sonicare line toothbrushes all used a 110v charger, which meant I had to carry a 220/110v step down transformer anytime I went into Asia or Europe. Sure the battery may last 2 weeks on a full charge but anything longer and you are going to need to do a charge mid-trip. The new model fixed that issue with a slick USB charging ability. USB charging is kind of ubiquitous these days and I am glad that this new toothbrush has the ability. Slow as it may be, I rather have USB charging over not being able to charge abroad.
Besides the USB charging feature, the new 4100 version has some neat features that my old toothbrush does not. Sure, the quad pacer and 2-minute timer were always there in the older models, but the new model features the ability to adjust the intensity of the brush head, an easy start for new users, a brush head replacement tracking feature with brush sync, and a pressure sensor that gives you immediate feedback that you may be using too much hand pressure.
The Philips Sonicare 4100 toothbrush as an update to the old Sonicare line is much overdue. I like the fact that they have moved away from the e-series brush heads which were on the cheapest toothbrushes to the newer style brush heads. The brush head style change has fixed a few issues, one you do not have the bacteria repository that the e-series brush heads have which require frequent cleaning of the ‘well’ where the brush head sits. The new design allows you to move to different style brush heads, as it's no longer just the ‘standard head’. Should you need a quick change, there are more options for brush heads on this newer style than the older e-series.
How is it to use you ask? Well, the first few times you turn it on, it would run a lower intensity brush head for you to get used to the sensation of using a sonic toothbrush, this feature was in my older models, but the ability to turn it off was not. I found the battery life isn't bad, though specs state the battery would last 28 brush sessions twice a day, which means a 14-day battery life. I for one think that is quite underestimated, as my older brushes would easily run 3+ weeks before running out of battery life. I haven't used this one long enough to see what the battery life would be like. The build quality of the toothbrush is excellent, and I would think it would last longer than the warranty provided. That said, my older brushes have run 5+ years each before needing replacements on the handle.
So if you are looking for an electronic toothbrush for yourself or someone in your life, I would not hesitate to recommend Sonicare. As a long time user, I am glad to see a new model is out for the masses at a price that is affordable. Sonicare toothbrushes definitely have helped keep my oral health in check, and I can now have that warm winning smile without the tinge of hesitation.

This unit performs as well as much more elaborate sonicare units. It lacks unnecessary features such as the ability to communicate with my smart phone, which is does not ship with a traveling case which lacks room for a charger, and excludes a glass charger receptacle that I broke with accidentally within 30 days of purchase with my older unit, It also is 1/4 the cost of the more elaborate unit. It’s only fault is it takes longer to charge than the older unit. I appreciate the warning it provides when you’re playing too much pressure on your teeth. This feature was not included on my old unit. Not long after I purchased it I saw an article in the New York Times that reviewed this unit and gave it very favorable reviews. Sonicare units have been providing me with excellent dental care as evidenced by the check ups with my dentist. You won’t go wrong with this unit.

Sonicare 4100 at glance is a rechargeable with following attributes:
1. Pressure Sensor
2. 2 intensities
3. Brush Head with replacement reminder,
4. 14 day battery life
5. 2 min smart timer
6. 30 sec quad pacer
7. Save and gentle
It is not very different from the traditional rechargeable toothbrush, but on had it feel comfortable and light and fits secure as toothbrushing.
The charging become as one more among usb charging gadget on the desk. The 2 min smart timer and 30 sec qadpacer need some used to until to understand how it works.
Setting the pressure and intensities as well require some trial and error until to find the desired level, but I feel can’t use dynamically to change from one mode to another during toothbrushing moment.
Two things that I think would be better done, first the light indicator is bit hard to notice if it is blinking or the state of the light. Second doesn’t include power adaptor, and wish it would come travel case.
And as personal preference, I like it doesn’t have to be setup or used with application as it would be one more app to add to the phone and setup with password.
In term of actual toothbrush, I would prefer little more hard cleaning, but I couldn’t’ set with the 2 options of intensity.
Aside of details, it does the basic in accordance to its specification.

I recently purchased the Philips Sonicare 4100 Power Toothbrush in black, and overall, it's been a great addition to my oral care routine.
The sleek black design is visually appealing, and the build quality is robust. It feels comfortable to hold and use, providing a solid grip during brushing.
The brush performance is impressive. The Sonicare technology ensures a thorough and effective clean, leaving my teeth feeling noticeably cleaner and fresher. The two-minute timer is a helpful feature, ensuring that I brush for the recommended time each session.
The battery life is commendable, lasting several days on a single charge. This is convenient for travel, and I appreciate not having to constantly worry about recharging the toothbrush.
One aspect that could be improved is the noise level. While it's not excessively loud, a quieter operation would enhance the overall experience.
The replacement brush heads are easy to find and replace, making maintenance hassle-free. The compatibility with a variety of Sonicare brush heads is a plus, allowing users to choose the one that suits their preferences.
In conclusion, the Philips Sonicare 4100 Power Toothbrush in black is a solid choice for those looking for an effective and reliable oral care companion. It might not be perfect, but its performance, design, and convenience make it a worthwhile investment in maintaining good dental hygiene.

What can I say? I am a sucker for the most basic toothbrush! I like the price!! I like the fact there is nothing wrong with them. What rubs me the wrong way is the fact that the replacement toothbrush heads are more money than the original purchase. Oh well.
