It's a fast drive and storage is good for the size. I bought two and use one as a NAS attached to my server. The other is for storage of videos that I can plug into my Sony Blu-Ray player and watch on my TV, without using my desktop PC. The speed of the drive is fast.

The drive essentially maxes out the USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1/3.2 Gen 1x1/SuperSpeed USB 5gbs bandwidth on both sequential reads and writes (~445MB/s). This is in contrast the the fact that PNY only advertises 400MB/s read and 250MB/s write on the package. The random reads and writes is equal to just about any modern internal SATA3 (6gbs) SSD.
It is comparable in performance to a portable SSD that connects via USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1/3.2 Gen 1x1/SuperSpeed USB 5gbs, except this drive is almost guaranteed to be smaller in physical size.

I bought 1 of these back in August of 2020 and wanted to do alot of testing on it before posting my review. I recently bought a new pc that actually supports usb 3.2 vs my old pc that only did usb 2.0 and wanted to be fair and use this usb to its full potential with its recommended required specs so since i needed to back up all my content creation 4k videos and music beats from my 4TB Samsung 870 Evo SSD since i have to trouble shoot why my samsung SSD and 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus Nvme are not showing up on Samsung Magician at all but shows up on my Razer Tomahawk Gaming Desktop with zero problems and even (CrystalDiskMark) shows them just fine and i can run bench test on them as well i figured i use this usb for my back up should i need to delete and reformat my ssd and nvme, Anyways the write speeds are pretty good with small files under 4GB. However once you transfer a bunch of files which equals 365GB+ the write speeds slow down and fluctuate from as low as 56Mbps to 250Mbps which is still faster then using a HDD lol! but the read speeds when uploading the same content from the PNY 512GB USB Flash Drive back to my 4TB Samsung 870 Evo SSD is incredibly fast at 400Mbps Read speeds with out dropping speeds! It took only 10 minutes to transfer 365GB of 4k content to my PC from this drive and about 35 minutes to upload from my pc to this drive on usb 3.2 vs an HDD which took over 72 hours to complete because the loads speeds dropped to 1.6Mbps at usb 2.0. This is an incredible usb Flash Drive and highly recommend it!
The reason for the 4 stars is because i only got 461GB out of the whole 512GB which is a loss of 51GB which is quite alot after Formating the drive to NTFS FAT32. If it was only like 10GB etc it wouldn't be a BIG deal But other then that, i would buy it again if i to back up more content that just doesnt fit in the one i have now.
I did a bench test on it using CrystalDiskMark and i took a pic to show the results and i gotta say its overall pretty accurate on the read speeds and write speeds at 1gb of upload and download. It may be a little off with larger files but still an awesome USB flash drive!

Last I recall, flash drives were maximum 64 GB and those were expensive. I must have been kidnapped by aliens and when I regained consciousness, there are half-tera and even full terabyte flash drives! Unbelievable! This was the largest capacity Best Buy had in stock, but let's face it 500 GB is a whale of a lot of capacity. I was able to transfer everything I wanted from my older desktop to my new one in a SINGLE pass, and the speed--what used to take half a day took about 30 minutes. I think the USB ports on my old machine may be 1.0 and was worried maybe this flash drive wouldn't work in them (it specifies it will work with 2.0) but it transferred just fine, and worked with my new 3.0 port. This flash drive feels very solid and the working end slides forward or back for protection. Has the look and feel of platinum!

This product is labeled as USB 3.0 but it's actually USB 3.1.
Works on both my MacBook Pro OS Big Sur and Windows 10.
Very fast!! This drive is LARGER than the SSD memory in my 10-year old MacBook Pro, recently retired.
Highly recommended!! It's not so tiny like other PNY devices that I have, so it doesn't get so hot. I have a tiny PNY but I lost it for months (and now it's found) so this PNY device I'm reviewing is the best size. Extremely fast and not so HOT when you eject it from a USB port!!

I’m an oldster that worked on punch cards and main frame computers that filled gymnasium size rooms, Now here is a device smaller thsn my little finger that holds 512 GIGA BYTES of data, pictures, music and videos. And it’s fast too. It feels solid and I hope it lasts and remains reliable for a long time. I have Pony usb sticks that are 15 to 20 yrs old and still working.

I bought this to move my music files off of my online storage. My sole usage purpose is for DJing my music files and this USB 3.0 was my first USB stick purchase. The read and write speeds are great, and while there may be faster write speed USB's out there, the PNY does a wonderful job without corrupting file quality. My Playback is with Pioneer DDJ-SB2 (On Serato, of course) and I haven't had a single issue with reading files on my Mac or Windows laptop and I switch between both often.
I also appreciate the durable feel of the stick, but still wouldn't trust it on something like a keyring, though I may trust it to be dropped a time or two. Overall 10 out of 10 would buy again!

Perfect Flash Drive, Compact and Great Performance

This drive performs very well. The package says 250MB/s write speed, but actually it gave me about 400MB/s for the first minute of a large copy operation before dropping to a still very respectable 200MB/s. This is in stark contrast to another USB3 flash drive I have, a SanDisk Ultra 128GB, which only writes at about 34MB/s.
There are flash drives that can maintain the faster write speeds for longer, but they are significantly larger than the PNY Pro Elite, and I use this drive as a backup of important files that I carry around in my pocket, so the compact size is important. I also like the sliding design, as opposed to having a cap that could be lost.

If you need high capacity storage on the go, this is a great buy. Its metal casing is sturdy but not too wide so you can easily install 2 drives side by side in adjacent USB ports which are usually found very close together in most modern laptops.

So far I have been very impressed with this thumb drive. It is small and compact, yet so many gigs! And it will copy large video files really fast.
