The Pokemon franchise has been an absolute mixed bag for close to a decade now. The last truly feature complete titles were probably Pokemon Black 2 and White on the DS in 2012--every title since then has felt it has been compromised or missing a major feature that was standard in the franchise's heights of Generations III through V.
Unfortunately, Pokemon Violet (and Scarlet, presumably), do not reverse this trend, missing essential and basic features such as the national pokedex still, as well as the Battle Tower or other late/postgame content aside from the new Tear Raids. Additionally, these titles are amongst the worst performing and looking games on the Switch, every corner of this game feels unpolished and unfinished.
Which is a massive shame because these games also mix-up the Pokemon formula in some of the most exciting ways in years. The new Terastallization mechanic is second only to mega evolutions, and probably is the best in terms of actually shaking up the battle system, giving every Pokemon access to a third type of your choosing (after some grinding).
And of course, there is the much ballyhooed open world, which the game pulls of to mostly good results. You can go anywhere almost instantly after the game starts, choosing which of the three main story paths you want to pursue. This is hampered however by poor level scaling, as there's an obvious linear path that the game wants you to follow, and then not much to do in the open world once you have completed those stories. This results in a world that feels empty and hollow--most buildings don't have any actual interiors, and those that do are copy and pasted from others, and some towns even have little to no actual content in them, making them inessential window-dressing.
Again, this makes the world feel unfinished and unpolished. The bones of a great experience are in here. I think I enjoyed the game more than I did not enjoy it, and its far more engaging that Sword and Shield were, but another year or even two of dev time was probably needed to really round out the experience and iron out performance.
The Pokemon franchise feels like its coming so close to evolving, but instead someone hit B at the last possible moment and cancelled it out, leaving us with a Wooper instead of a Clodsire.

Pokémon Violet is a game with a lot of potential hampered by technical issues. The open world, new Pokémon, and engaging storylines offer a genuinely fun experience, but the performance problems and graphical limitations are hard to ignore.

Game has potential but runs like garbage on the official console it was designed for. I would recommend only after performance increases, the graphics on this are just bad. On the other hand, gameplay was fun and they added open world and a lot of new mechanics which further enhance the Pokémon catching adventure.

Pokemon Violet New Game Experience

Pokemon Violet is the only Pokemon game that I was very late in buying because it was so different, in my opinion, from other games. The graphics weren't that great to me, even though Legends had come out earlier. To me, the games weren't on par at all, and the 'legendary' pokemon just didn't appeal to me either, what with it being a glorified bike. The concept of the game just wasn't great to me, and just seemed like a gimmick similar to Mega Evolution. It was an okay game to play for me, but my experience is not the same for others. I ordered it, it came in good condition from Best Buy, and earlier than expected too. All in all, this game is good for casual players but no where near the worth of the hype for me.

Extremely Fun Despite Lackluster Environment

The biggest issue I heard of when researching whether I should purchase this game was that there were a ton of bugs and glitches, and that the environment was very ugly. I’ve sunk about 40 hours into this game thus far. Ive not run into a single bug or glitch, and I’ve had an absolute blast. The environment I will admit isn’t as nice as it could be, but I think if you look past that lackluster world, and the frame drops, you will have an amazing time with this game.

I would have gave it a four stars but if not for the performance issues & other bugs when playing the game itself. But in spite of that it's a rather good game though game freak took out the useful things that were in legends arceus(like the Shiny sound & sparkle with overworld pokemon for example). I am rather underwhelmed with the post game content but doesn't take away it's replayability factor when it comes to the pokemon. The pokemon models have been improved upon taking notes from Legends Arceus making the pokemon stand out completely than the 3 previous generations. Overall pokemon Violet is a mixed bag. Plenty of potential if game freak patches the game(hopefully fixing fps dips).

Haters can hate on this game all they want, it's fantastic! Yeah, it has some performance issues. But the story, the characters, and new Pokemon are the best we've had since the 3DS days.

An amazing game through and through. The mechanics definitely revamp and reinvent the classic Pokemon formula. The game does have its quirks though, such as some slight stuttering and minor texture and model issues.
