The Polk MC85 In-wall Speakers distribute sound equally across the living room. They allow for a true movie theater surround sound effect throuughout the area. I recently popped in a music CD and was blown away by the quality of the sound coming out of the speakers. And as a former Recording Studio Engineer, I am impressed... especially for the price.

Great Center Channel Option

I'm using this as a center channel in a 7.1 home theater setup. The room is somewhat large (14'x40') and this speaker delivers plenty of clear sound to be heard at the back of the room. I have it paired w/ Polk two RC85i in-wall front speakers and 4 RC80i in-ceiling speakers for surround and back, as well as a Polk 12 inch powered subwoofer. I was hesitant to use it as a center channel because its price is $100-$300 less than Polk's true center channel speakers. I am not disappointed in my decision. Voices are heard crystal clear (voice is the main function of a center channel) and music is impressive even at ridiculously loud volume. Installation is easy (tip from Polk: add some insulation behind it in the wall). You just find your studs, trace the cardboard template onto your wall between the studs, connect speaker wires, insert speaker into the hole, tighten six screws, reattach the grill and you're done (20 minutes at most). I painted the speakers with spray paint to match the wall. My tip: paint in several thin layers. I ended up w/ a bit too much paint in several spots, so I had to use a paperclip to re-punch holes in the grill where paint clogged them up. It's tedious, but it works. Buy this speaker and feel confident to use it as a center channel.
