Summary: After a few days of use, my kid seems to love this toothbrush! It has fun colors, is easy to use and has a good app for parental use.
Pros:
Fun
Easy to use
Easy set up
Cheap service
Cons:
Apple health integration has issues
Meant to be used with a subscription
The unboxing experience was very straightforward. Inside you will find the brush, a toothbrush holder, a travel holder and documentation (with a free refill coupon).
Setup is done with the Quip app. I paired it with my iPhone. The app has a reward system in which you can earn points for good brushing which you can use to redeem credits for refills, gift cards and so on. The app shows details on recent brushes to include duration, coverage (top and bottom), strokes per min and brush intensity. You can add it to Apple health tracking but it seems that any brushing will add to the Apple health account of the owner of the phone, I did not see a way to separate it if you have multiple quip accounts.
My child really enjoyed the bright yellow color and the normal size of the toothbrush. Like most electric toothbrushes it will indicate when two minutes has elapsed.
I would say this toothbrush is a win overall but it might be better with some more app integration / interaction for kids such as games and better Apple health integration.

What a fun little toothbrush! The Quip toothbrush is a really nice little toothbrush for children, with a unique offer I haven’t seen anywhere else.
In the box:
You get the brush, included battery, and brush head cover that can also stick to your bathroom mirror. The entire thing is plastic, but feels sturdy and is a good size for a child’s mouth.
Using the brush:
It works just like any electric toothbrush. The vibration isn’t excessive so it should shake the toothpaste off or hurt your child’s mouth. It also provides pulses to tell you when you have brushed two minutes to help your child know they’ve brushed long enough. My only problem was the button on the brush is pretty hard to press, so it could be difficult for your child to do on their own.
The app:
The toothbrush comes with an app, because it’s 2020 and everything has an app. It’ll track how often you brush, if you brushed your top teeth more than the bottom, number of strokes, and acceleration. I’m not sure why you’d really need all this information, but if you’re the kind of person that likes to geek out over your brushing habits, here you go. It’ll connect with Apple and Google health to track with all your other health apps. It also features a reward system that will reward you with gift cards if you brush consistently.
The service:
The subscription service is what makes Quip unique. You can subscribe to their service every three months for a new brush head and battery; brush, battery, and toothpaste; or for brush, battery, toothpaste, and floss refill. I think it’s pretty cool to not have to worry about getting a new toothbrush and the price isn’t bad for a brush head.
Overall it’s a quality electric toothbrush and if you’re the kind of person that like subscribing to services that eliminate things like buying toothbrushes, this might be something for you.

My daughter's review:
I love the yellow color of the Quip Kids toothbrush. It feels good on my teeth when I am brushing. I like that it doesn't make a loud noise when I am brushing. It cleans my teeth well. At the end of the day my teeth are all sparkly. I wish I could stop the toothbrush when I am brushing if I need to do something quick. You can stop it but when you turn it back on it will start the timer over again. Overall I think it is an awesome toothbrush.
My comments:
The handle of the Quip is much thinner than other electric toothbrushes I've used and it's also much lighter. It is very quite as noted above. The app it different, instead of showing pictures of your teeth or other things that change as you brush, it just updates after you finish. It then gives you stats like how fast your strokes per minute, intensity, and coverage. While it's less exciting to watch than other apps I've seen it's been helpful for us. It's shown us that our daughter normally brushes a lot more on the top teeth than the bottom teeth. She's working on that and improving - which we can tell by the app. One really cool thing is that you can use points you get from brushing to get things like a free brush head!

I thought this would be really cool for my 3 year old to be consistent with brushing his teeth. He enjoys the fact that it vibrates just like mom and dads and the yellow color is a plus. When I first synced it with the app I thought it was very cool. The first time we brushed it showed how long he had brushed (duration), the intensity of brushing, strokes per min and coverage (top and bottom). Very cool. I like the silicon brush part but I'm not sure how that cleans better than a traditional brush. Seems like it would miss some tight spots in teeth.
The major problem is, and the reason it get's 2 stars, I haven't been able to connect the brush to the app since then. I've tried a few days when I've had time, but to be honest as a working parent of multiple kids I don't have time to troubleshoot a toothbrush app. It's early in the morning, I'm trying to get to work or it's late at night and he needs to get to bed. Either way, the app is flawed.
Having said that, it seems that if you can get the app to work with the toothbrush there are incentives to make your kid brush with more consistency. Gift cards, refill credits and other rewards are offered for regular brushing. It might be a good idea to offer something "kid friendly" as a reward so your kid can actually work for something.
Pretty cool, as I said if you can get it working.
All in all I guess the idea is a good one, but without the app working with the toothbrush it's just an expensive toothbrush.

The brush is used by a 3-year-old. It has made brushing time a happier time when they get to see the results on the app. We experienced so trouble with the app at first. The app could not stay updated with the use of the brush. There is no level for the brush bristles you cannot order soft, stiff, or hard bristles. The two-minute timer function is automatic when you turn on the brush. All in all, the grandchild likes it and brushes after every meal, so it is a win for us. I would recommend this brush to family and friends.

My son is 5 and a little on the smaller side, so this toothbrush was a little much when trying to get to the back of this mouth...other than that he loves it. It has a soft feel and the vibration is overboard to cause problems for him. It is a bright yellow so it's easily visible. It comes with a case with a screw on bottom, which we still use to keep the brush sanitary when not in use or for traveling. No complains so far and the replacement heads are reasonably priced.

Interactive Brushing System For Kids

Sometimes it seems easier getting kids to eat vegetables than it is to get them to brush their teeth. But with the Quip - Kids Smart Electric Toothbrush, this may be the motivation that kids need.
When you get the toothbrush, it seems to work best if you use the system. The toothbrush is Bluetooth compatible and has a companion app which is able to track various usage parameters for the kids brushing habits. This includes tracking how long kids actually brush their teeth. As the kids brush, they earn points which can be used for rewards such as tote bags, dental floss, refill kit credits, or even gift cards. And because the system tracks how long and how often my child brushes his teeth, he can't lie and say he brushed when he didn't. I can check the app and know exactly what he did.
The toothbrush itself is a good size for children to handle. The toothbrush fits easily into your child's hand. The toothbrush does not come with a charger though. It is battery operated. The battery should last at least 3 months with normal use. The system then recommends a refill kit which includes a new brush head, battery, floss, and toothpaste. This really should cover all of your needs.
The kids version brush head is good. The bristles seemed to be medium stiffness. The brush is able to give a good cleaning. It also allows the child to apply a good amount of pressure to make sure they get everything. As with most electric style toothbrushes, this brush does have an interval timer. Every 30 seconds, the brush will buzz. This way the child can spend an equal amount of time on each area of the mouth. This was the child can be sure to brush for a full 2 minutes.
The toothbrush comes in a nice plastic case. The toothbrush can be stored in the case to keep the brush clean or allow it to be taken on trips. It works great.
I really like the Quip - Kids Smart Electric Toothbrush. The system is easy to set up and use. Additionally it is fun for my child to see his brushing habits in the app. This helps him to be a better brusher. I recommend this toothbrush and system to anyone who wants to get their kids to develop good brushing skills.

I received this Quip Kids Smart toothbrush at no cost for an honest review.
At first, I was sort of skeptical as to what a smart toothbrush could do. However, after 1 week of testing, I am mostly impressed.
This toothbrush uses the "Quip" app along with it.
As a parent, I was able to monitor my child's brushing because I can sync the toothbrush with the app via bluetooth to download stats. Here is the information you can get:
- Last brush time
- Brush duration
- Strokes during brush
- Intensity of brushing (acceleration)
- Coverage (top or bottom teeth)
- It shakes slightly when 30 seconds have elapsed so your child knows to change sides
Plus it awards points for brushing at least 3 times a day.
The AAA battery should last a good 3 months, so I'm looking forward to that.
My child was very encouraged by the points, and I worked out a prize if I see consistent brushing.
You can actually get rewards for brushing such as a solar battery charger, a tote, refillable floss, etc.
I was able to place the brush holder on the cabinet mirror because it came with a double-sided tape, so you can you can hang it anywhere.
Overall, I'm (and my child) is satisfied with this brush.
The bristles seem al little soft, even for a child, but it's not a deal-breaker.
I recommend it if you want to track your child's brushing habits!

I gotta say the Quip - Kids Smart Electric Toothbrush is a decent toothbrush. My granddaughter uses it faithfully. But the app is not so great. And the rewards aren't what I would say kids would go crazy about. It is a nice functional toothbrush. I recommend better rewards in the companion App.

Best Smart Electric Toothbruch

For starters, this is a great, electronic toothbrush for kids. I've bought several different "character" electronic toothbrushes in the past for my son, just to try to get him excited for brushing his teeth. Nothing seemed to get him into it. Every toothbrush I purchased was old and messy and ended up lasting like two weeks before the battery died.
Not with the quip. It is a very simple, sleek design of a toothbrush - from first looks, it doesn't even look like a typical electronic toothbrush. There is no bulky, heavy bottom with a small round, rotating head. This just looks like an ordinary toothbrush.
But looks are deceiving - this is a mighty toothbrush. First, I want to point out that it is extremely quiet. So much so, that I've yelled at my son for not turning it on to brush his teeth, only to find out that it was indeed on and doing its job.
I like the app for the fact that my son can earn "points" for brushing his teeth as well as there is the timer. Being a young boy, he's not very interested in spending much time in the bathroom or brushing his teeth well. This helps to make sure he's doing a proper job.
Overall, I love this toothbrush for my son and I've seen a vast improvement in his oral hygiene. I would recommend this for anyone whose child is not a fan of brushing or needs assistance doing a good job.

Cheap way to make brushing teeth fun for kids

I have a 5 year old who generally brushes his teeth every night and without a fuss. Suffice it to say, he's not very good at it yet and often says he's done 10 seconds after starting. The Quip brush makes it fun for him and helps to get him to brush for a full two minutes. That extra time is also making sure he brushes ALL of his teeth. He was excited to get it and enjoys using it. I don't know if all kids will react the same, or even if my son will continue the trend, but it was assuring.
I've heard a lot about Quip brushes in ads, but no one in my family has ever used one. They are priced very well, especially compared to the gold standard Sonicare. I was a bit skeptical about getting one for me, but after seeing one in person I'm a believer.
The packaging is well thought out and environmentally friendly. The plastic tube it comes in serves as a travel case. The bottom of the case can sit on the counter and serve as a stand and it can even be attached to the mirror with the included adhesive strip. The best part is that it only takes a triple A battery and it supposedly lasts 3 months (I'll have to wait and see on that, but even one month would be okay by me). The included brush head was soft and the perfect size for a kids mouth.
Bottom line is that this is a quality brush that is very reasonably priced and well thought out. It does what you need (and well) and nothing more. It supposedly has Bluetooth capabilities, and while I might use those for myself (probably not) I wasn't really interested in using it to track my son's habits. But it's there, which is the nice part. If you want to use it you can.
If your kid is a first time electric toothbrush user, just make sure he/she turns it on when the brush is in their mouth... otherwise you will have toothpaste splatter in the bathroom :)

Bristles are large for kids' teeth; app needs work

I'm not entirely sure the rubber bristles are good for anybody's teeth, honestly (disclaimer: I'm nowhere near the dental profession) as they're very large so I don't believe they adequately clean *in between* the teeth, especially for children.
The app itself was impossible to setup on my wife's iPhone 11, but I successfully got it sync'd to my Android after some troubleshooting. I was quite surprised, however, to find there were "brushings" logged on the brush from *months* before we received it. Not sure if this means it had powered on in transit, was powered on & tested (without being reset) at the factory, or what. But it felt weird.
When you "sync" the toothbrush w/ the app after a brushing, it updates the data but then often pops an "unable to sync" message... despite just updating the data w/ the latest stuff (so clearly it sync'd just fine). It tracks things like duration, coverage (top/bottom), strokes, and "intensity". Upon digging into the meaning of "strokes" and "intensity" - they seem duplicative. Additionally all this data is still in "beta", but it has helped me direct my 6yo to split his time between top & bottom parts of his mouth, which is good!
We haven't yet earned enough points to redeem for a reward to see how that process goes, but things like a tote bag, "refresh bag", floss, credits toward refills, and even a $5 Target gift card are available today.

THE GOOD
-Reasonable price, both base unit and refill
-Uses AAA battery
-Earn real-world rewards through mobile app
-Nifty mirror mount also doubles as storage case
-Small size: easy to travel and takes less counter space
THE BAD
-"Rumble Pak" effect
-Wide, uncomfortable neck
-Only one brush head size and one cleaning mode
-Mobile app issues
-Only one color
-Can't get refills w/o battery
I can appreciate what Quip is trying to do, making electric toothbrushes more affordable and available. Not everyone wants to ( or can afford to ) drop $150+ on a toothbrush, then pay for expensive replacement heads all year. Quip's business model is very similar to the subscription razor services you may already be using. However, the quality of shave I get from the cheap subscription razors is almost indistinguishable from the more expensive retail brands. I can't say the same for the Quip.
I tried the Quip for a bit before disinfecting it and handing it over to my kids. It reminds me of the N64 Rumble Pak. There's no special internal frame or driveshaft to directly actuate the brush head like you find on a Sonicare or Oral-B. It just has a vibrating motor in the handle that rumbles the entire toothbrush. Instead of just moving the brush head along my teeth and letting the pulses do the cleaning, I felt I still had to manually brush with the Quip to get my teeth feeling clean. It does have an internal timer and will buzz every 30 seconds to remind you to change which area of your teeth you're brushing, but that's pretty standard nowadays.
Quip makes a big deal in their marketing how much smaller their kid's model is compared to competing models, which is true in total size. However the neck on the Quip is just as thick, front to back, as normal toothbrushes and also much wider side to side. Even for an adult, it's not comfortable moving around in your mouth, especially if you normally try to seal your lips around the toothbrush to keep spit from dribbling down your chin as you brush. The toothbrush comes with a well designed travel case / protective cap that snaps over the top of the brush. At home, the slip case can be removed and used as a caddy to stick the toothbrush to a mirror or other slick surface. It uses a special gel that's not sticky ( so it won't pick up lint or dirt in your travel bag ) but that will still adhere to glass or slick metal surfaces ( like a vinyl decal for windows ). You can pull it off your mirror and restick it time and again without problem.
This model is equipped with Bluetooth ( you can also get a normal BT-less kid's toothbrush ) which allows it to work with an application on your Android or iOS device. It can track time spent brushing and will give real-world rewards for consistent brushing. Connectivity with the app can be very problematic at this point though. When it does work, well my kids think anything on a phone screen is cool, and that can be useful in motivating them to brush their teeth. However, it's only available in yellow, which can be problematic if three kids each have identical looking toothbrushes. A Sharpie would probably be necessary to differentiate them.
A big part of the Quip is the refill subscription plan. You buy the base toothbrush package then you can pay for a recurring subscription plan that will send you replacement brush heads and batteries ( it uses a regular AAA ) every three months ( along with things like floss and toothpaste if you want to pay extra for them ). The subscription prices are pretty reasonable for what you get. However I can't find an option to get only brush heads and not replacement batteries as well. It's nice the Quip uses a regular AAA battery, but I'd much rather use my own rechargeable battery than pay for a new battery that needs to be thrown away every three months. Seems wasteful.
Perhaps the biggest problem is how basic everything is. Quip only offers one kind of brush head ( in adult and kid sizes ), one cleaning mode, and that's it. It works okay for the most part, and it is cheaper than most other electric toothbrushes ( even factoring in a subscription plan and replacement brush heads ). But it's about the same price as entry models from competing retail brands. And if you go up just a little in price, you can get toothbrushes that offer a lot more features, so long as you don't absolutely need a Bluetooth companion app on your phone. I don't use a mobile app for my own toothbrush, and apart from being able to check if my kids really brushed their teeth or not, I don't see the need for one.
Do I find the Quip Kids toothbrush worthwhile? Not really. The times I used it, it didn't get my teeth feeling as clean as my regular Sonicare toothbrush. My kids don't seem to notice any difference between it and their cheap $5 disposable Spinbrushes either. I find the brush head and especially neck very large and wide considering it's intended for kids and those with small mouths. The Bluetooth and app link can be helpful in motivating kids to brush their teeth, including the points and rewards you can earn, but there are all sorts of free apps already available that can do that which don't require a more expensive toothebrush and subscription plan. I think the cheaper non-Bluetooth model would make a good travel brush, since it comes with the travel cap / mirror mount, especially for someone who doesn't want to pack their larger and more expensive electric toothbrush.

My son recently turned 3 and we were looking into getting him a real toothbrush. He has a regular toothbrush that he’s just not into. When we found the Quip toothbrush that changed. He is now super excited to brush his teeth. It’s the perfect size and bristle type for him. Especially while using it with the app he has more fun with his morning routine. It’s simple to use he can operate it on his own without any assistance. I really recommend this for your children who you are trying to get them started with better habits.
