Customers admire the camera's quality and ease of use, with many praising its straightforward installation process and wide-angle view. However, some users experienced issues with the battery life, noting the camera's tendency to shut down to conserve power, even in newer vehicles. The wide angle is a plus for many users. A few users found the battery life to be a significant drawback.

Hi Yazan134.
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.
With a Ring Protect Go subscription, certain recorded events, like motion alerts and the beginning of Traffic Stop recording, are automatically uploaded and stored in the cloud for up to 180 days. Ring does not store entire drive clips in the cloud. You can access video stored in the cloud from the Ring app — even if Car Cam has been stolen.

Hello DenDS,
Car Cam is a security-focused device designed to quickly alert you to suspicious activity and start recording to help inform you of disturbances, break-ins, and more. We appreciate your input, and we are working on additional improvements to video quality that we'll release in upcoming over-the-air software updates.
Car Cam uses built-in sensors to detect a physical disturbance to your vehicle when it’s parked, such as an impact or break-in. It is not designed to detect someone passing by or just looking inside. When a physical disturbance is detected, the cameras will start to record, and you'll get a motion alert in the Ring App and can see what triggered it with Live View when your vehicle is connected to your home Wi-Fi or away from home with a Ring Protect Go subscription, which is sold separately.
You can also adjust motion detection sensitivity in the app to tailor it to a specific vehicle and its environment. Adjusting the sensitivity may increase or decrease the number of events Car Cam captures. For neighbors who are solely interested in detecting disturbances inside the cabin and wish to ignore external disturbances such as heavy traffic areas, we recommend enabling Interior Motion Verification. This feature monitors the inside of the cabin for activity when a disturbance is detected. If motion is verified, the cameras will begin recording and send a notification. For neighbors, such as yourself, who are interested in any disturbance to the vehicle, inside or outside, we recommend disabling Interior Motion Verification.

Dash cam/security camera

The ring dash camera is a great dash cam and is one of the best that i have ever used. It works flawlessly with the ring app and has its own display inside the app so it does not interfere with any other ring products. It does have its limitations of couse since a subscription is required that will cost 60 dollars a year. This subscription gives you cloud backups for up to a year that is saved. If you do not want the subscription cost, it sill work without it but your limited to the on board storage and will need wifi to upload the footage. You will also need a battery that is under 3 years old and it has limitations if you have a vehicle thst pulls a lot of power on the battery when your vehicle is off. The reason for the under 3 years is to give you the best record and live feed time. I have a 2021 buick encore that is recording 24/7. It has not one time cut the live feed to the camera and i have access to past recordings and live video any time that i want it. This dash cam is still great for older vehicles but you’ll have to adjust the settings accordingly.

The camera quality is just barely ok. As others have said you cant really see a license plate unless the other car is really really close to yours. The lte works just ok when the device is on, it can connect instantly or sometimes it might take awhile. Device will turn off after awhile depending on settings you choose however for me it stood on and reachable all night yesterday. The cloud service for $6 would be good but what it decides to record and where it stores it (on device or cloud) almost seems random. So no i cant recommend the device at this moment. Maybe it will update and improve but as of 2/18/23 its a no-go.

Hi Anthony.
Thank you for sharing your feedback on the Ring Car Cam. We understand how important it is to have quality videos recorded by your Ring Car Cam and to easily access them. The Ring Car Cam was designed to record video locally and upload highlights to the cloud with a Ring Protect Go Plan. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your concerns.
With Ring Car Cam, you may be able to see other license plates in some cases. The Ring Car Cam is a security-focused device designed to quickly alert you to event activity and start recording to let you know if there is a disturbance or break-in.
It sounds like there is some confusion about where your videos are being stored. Car Cam supports two methods to capture recorded events: local and cloud storage. All recorded events are stored locally within the Car Cam’s internal memory. A Ring Protect Go subscription enables Cloud Highlights, which is sold separately.
If you have a Ring Protect Go subscription:
• Cloud Highlights capture the beginning of motion and traffic stop events and immediately upload video to the cloud for immediate access. The remaining portion of a motion or traffic stop event is locally stored. As a result, individual Motion and Traffic Stop events in Event History and Timeline are made up of local and cloud events.
• Drive events automatically begin recording at the beginning of a drive and are always stored locally.
• Live View events are always uploaded to the cloud and can thus act as cloud highlights.
• Cloud highlights are stored in the cloud for up to 180 days.

I normally don’t do reviews so quickly but I just have to say something this time. You will hear all the good from other reviewers. One Big , Big problem is how long the dash cam stay on after you return home. Mine , 5 hours then it goes into sleep mode to save battery. I brought this dash cam because if someone broke into my car in the middle of the night or a night at a hotel. I was hoping this cam would capture that. I have a dash cam in my car but it does not offer cloud storage. So if you are thinking of buying this cam please keep in mind that it will not stay on 24 hours. It will go into sleep mode and no video of your car being broken into. Oh and just to throw this out there I have 2022 F150 and had the battery checked and it was all good. I would not recommend this product only because it drains your car battery and it goes into sleep mode after about 5 hours of your car at rest.

Hi Rodrick,
Thank you for your feedback on Ring Car Cam. This helps us improve our product experience.
Car Cam has a power management system which will turn itself off in advance of ever depleting the vehicle's battery. When your vehicle is parked, Ring Car Cam goes into a low-power monitoring mode. After a drive, Car Cam may turn off once it detects a certain vehicle battery level in order to ensure you’re able to start your vehicle. The device will turn back on once the vehicle is started. To control how long Car Cam stays active between drives, you can change the Vehicle Battery Usage setting in the Ring app. This setting allows you to determine how soon Car Cam shuts off based on your driving behavior, battery age, and the environment. Ring does not recommend you use Car Cam if your vehicle's battery is past its service life.
Here are a few battery life tips: • Vehicles need to be driven at highway speeds now and then to keep the battery charged. • If Car Cam turns off too quickly, raise its Vehicle Battery Usage setting. • If the vehicle won’t be used for a while, unplug accessories like Car Cam to protect its battery.
We appreciate your input, and we are working on additional improvements to video quality that we'll release in upcoming over-the-air software updates.

There seems to be an ongoing issue with location feature. Ring customer service cannot give you any answers but to say that it's all the ring car cameras are not functioning as described. They're featured that allows you to locate your car in a parking lot does not work It's been displaying the same location since March 2nd.

I've already returned mine. Video quality is horrendous. Power management system keeps shutting the unit off when parked because it incorrectly senses that your car battery is low regardless of what setting you have it on. You can only download 20 seconds of a video at a time. You're only allowed 2 gigs per month of data before being charged for extra data. Unit does not sense motion outside the car when parked only inside the car or if the car is impacted from the outside. Without paying $60 for their yearly plan the unit is useless. All for $250!

Hi JohnG.
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.
With Ring Car Cam, you may be able to see other license plates in some cases. Car Cam is a security-focused device designed to quickly alert you to event activity and start recording to let you know if there is a disturbance or break-in.
Ring Car Cam is designed to always be powered on. It doesn't have a built-in battery but safely draws power from the car’s battery through the OBD-II port. Car Cam has a power management system that will turn itself off in advance of depleting the vehicle's battery. If Car Cam detects a certain low vehicle battery level, it will shut itself off when driving is complete, and you will receive a notification in the Ring app for additional vehicle battery help. Car Cam will power back up once your car turns on again and its battery is sufficiently recharged.
Car Cam uses built-in sensors to detect a physical disturbance to your vehicle when it’s parked, such as an impact or break-in. It is not designed to detect someone passing by or just looking inside. When a physical disturbance is detected, the cameras will start to record, and you'll get a motion alert from the Ring App where you can watch what is happening live when your device is connected to your home wifi or LTE through the optional Ring Protect Go subscription.
You can customize motion sensitivity in the Ring app to fit your vehicle and its environment. Adjusting the sensitivity may increase or decrease the number of events that Car Cam captures.
We are currently evaluating LTE usage for Car Cam, and there are no charges for going over 2GB at this time. We will communicate in advance of any overage charges being introduced, and you can opt-in to overages for your device before you are charged.

I’m a big Best Buy shopper and I have many Ring cameras and the full subscription for home, including door bell, two spot lights and two smaller Ring outdoor cameras. I like their stuff and their app.
This “car cam” is another story.
I had the camera for a week and boxed it right up and sent it back.
For a really good explanation of how poorly this camera works google search,
“Ring car cam review from wired magazine”
My explanation would take too long and their review explains everything and they know what they’re talking about since they are a trusted source.

Hello Willy,
We understand the need to have your Car Cam record and produce clear videos so that you can monitor the security in your vehicle. The features of the device are designed to alert you to suspicious activity and start recording to help inform you of disturbances, break-ins, and more. We are confident that we can assist you with your concern today.
Please find below the instructions for downloading the high-quality video clip, in the event that you need to do so. Video download and sharing is an added feature available through the optional Ring Protect Go subscription. Currently, you can only download 20-second segments of a drive event, which are locally stored on Car Cam. Here’s how to select a specific segment to download: 1. Open the desired drive event (or select it on your Event Timeline). 2. Select the start location of the clip. 3. Click More (...) » Download » Agree & Continue » Wait for the video to process.
Your video will be processed, and the Ring app will notify you when the clip is ready for download. The video clips are defaulted to show the interior-facing camera view upon opening. To change the view to the forward-facing camera, click the camera icon at the top right of the screen while playing the clip.
