This movie is great. I'm surprised how good this movie is even when comparing it to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War of the Planet of the Apes (because those movies are basically back-to-back masterpieces). Have only minor problems with it, but they are all problems I have when I compare it to the rest of the trilogy. I'd still recommend it to people.

This movie tells the story of Caesar and how he got intelligent. It starts with a scientist played by James Franco who's trying to find a cure to his dad's mental ailment, which I think is dementia / Alzheimer's. In the process he infects one of his co-workers with a virus called the Simian flu. While Caesar the first ape given the treatment becomes increasingly intelligent and infects the Apes and gorillas and orangutans he is house with with the same virus which makes all of them smart also. Which leads to conflict

This is great, action packed movie and would be an excellent addition to the "Planet of Apes" collection of movies. The 4K UHD blu ray technologies offers greater enhancements over the standard DVD release. If you are planning to upgrade to the 4K UHD disc, Blu ray disc type players or already have, then definitely purchase this one.

The trilogy is one of my favorites, I am a steelbook collector, this one was a must for my collection, if you like this movie or haven't watch it yet, don't think to much and buy it, it worth every penny. I purchased all three movies in the steelbook version, no 4K but still looks amazing you hardly notice the difference to be honest.

I got this movie for less than $10 and this is steal for a 4K movie. The story line is very good and most people like whether they are a Planet of the Apes fan or not. I normally only watch a movie once, but I plan to watch again with the Director Commentary turned on to get a in depth narration of the making of the movie.

I saw these movies in the trilogy out of order first starting with the second one which is still my favorite of the three. Having just recently seen War of the Planet of the Apes I wanted to go back and see how the storyline all started. Overall I wasn't disappointed not as much action in this movie as the others but it had a good storyline and overall a decent thriller.

film to start this franchise! Any Serkis deserves to be recognized for playing at a skill very few have! This tells where the series started and gives great perfomances from James Franco, Frieda Pinto and John Lithgow(AWESOME). A must see in my book just for the effects alone!

If you are going to watch this movie and have a 4K TV, then get it in 4K. The movie is GREAT, and the 4K is stunning. We only got the first movie in 4K, then recorded the 2nd in regular HD on TV. When we started watching it, we stopped and ordered the remaining two movies in 4K.

When it comes to this movie I love this movie a lot. It was the first of a new series of Planet of the Apes. This was a good first step of the new movies. I also like the steel book case I got with it. I'd say if you didn't see it before watch it now.

It's a modern take on the classic movies, the "origin story" for Planet of the Apes. I think it is a good movie, the entire trilogy is re-watchable.
And as always, 4K Ultra HD Blurays cannot be beaten. Streaming is convenient, sure, but if you want the best quality audio and video, go for the physical media.

I enjoyed all 3 of the rebooted planet of the apes movies, but I was a little but let down about the 4K version. If you had this playing and the regular Blu-ray version side by side they are really not that much different. There are other movies that it is a dramatic upgrades, this is not one of them.

I watched this movie and it was very interesting. It gave the back story to put The original Planet of the Apes so That we can get the origin. It shows how mans greed can lead to our on destruction. Can we ever learn?

The Best in the Series Arrives in Steelbook

The original Charlton Heston "Apes" is a film I mostly relegate to childhood memory when I would always seem to catch bits and pieces of it on TV. I never really looked into or realized the subtexts of the story until after Tim Burtons 2001 re-imagining appeared on screen. I have never seen the other films in the original series, but I went into "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" knowing where this all was heading and that is all you really need seeing as this is an origin story. That is part of the intrigue of this project as well, an engaging film has already given us a world audiences are interested in, to see the revolution that led to our roles being switched and how humanity was reduced to nothing more than wild animals ourselves seems, if not only a scheme to make more money off the franchise, at least a credible way to re-boot it. The film has been stacked with A-list actors and top of the line special effects that help create a performance by Andy (Gollum) Serkis as our star ape, Caesar, one of the most memorable and moving performances of the summer. It is a cautionary tale of human ignorance or should I say arrogance and the desire to know more even in the wake of danger. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" doesn't have to give us a reflection of our species as the apes, here, we see our own undoing.
