Comparison of the Kone Pro Air and Kone Pro

I initially picked up the Pro Air while it was on sale, and then the next week the Kone Pro went on sale and Best Buy sent me a $15 gift. Outside of the nearly $60 price difference, there is one key difference about the regular Kone Pro I do prefer and that's the weight. The Pro Air is by no means heavy, but the regular pro is about 8-9 grams lighter on my scale, which ends up being pretty noticeable to me. Another difference is the black coating is glossier picking up every smudge, and this probably a personal issues but made my hands sweat. I love wireless and had zero issues with it, but Roccat put a nice cable on the Pro and with a bungie you can't notice it. I'm going to stick it out with the Pro for those reasons, but I love this mouse and could have gone either way. Haven't had an ergo shape before, but I love the shape and larger size, while still being light weight. This mouse has become my new main. I don't have any serious complaints about it, but I do think the clicks are kind of muted and not my favorite sounding. The switches are also not what I would consider a fast, and I would consider more tactile. I also wish the side grooves by the side buttons actually had some grip, and I ended up ordering my own grips to help with it. It's kind of good and bad, but the Swarm software isn't the most user friendly, but offers a lot customization. I would recommend either of these mice, especially if you can get them on sale. Also, I would recommend the white edition for the coating.

Best Lightweight Mouse for the $$$

After patiently waiting for a month for this mouse to be released at Best Buy, I finally got my hands on one. I can say, without a doubt, that this is the best lightweight wireless gaming mouse I have used to this day. With a price tag of over $120, I would consider this to be a “premium gaming mouse” and it does not disappoint in quality or performance. The mouse is made out of a black plastic, but it is very easy to grip in the hand and does not slip when making fast sweeps across the desk. Subtle grooves in the sides of the mouse assist with gripping. The heat-treated pads on the bottom of the mouse are a game changer. You can barely touch mouse and it will move across the desk with ease because the heat-treated pads eliminate almost all friction. Roccat Titan Optical switches are also one of the best features of this mouse. The titan optical switch’s completely eliminate double clicking, and I have never experienced this issue in the use of the mouse while playing competitive games. The aluminum scroll wheel is a premium feature, and works great with a subtle click when scrolling. All of the buttons of the mouse have good, crisp clicks and feel great to use. The Roccat SWARM software is the only place I experienced any issues. Those issues being that profiles sometimes did not save upon exit of the program. The simple fix was to just to re-open the program and save the profile again. There are only two zones of RGB lighting on the mouse underneath the right and left primary buttons, but they are quite interesting. The Roccat Sense AIMO lighting automatically adjusts to whatever task you are doing, and intelligently learns your habits such as clicking and scrolling. Every time you click or scroll the colors will change depending on what you were doing. Pros: Premium feel Wireless/wired usability Very lightweight Intelligent lighting Long battery life Superior maneuverability Titan Optical Switches Cons: SWARM software sometimes buggy (personal con: only 2 RGB zones, I like RGB to be on mice and keyboards) In conclusion, the Kone Pro Air is one of the best options for a lightweight wireless gaming mouse. It is a new product that has just released so there isn’t anything else new out that is better. Roccat has also stated that they spent years developing this mouse, and it really shows in the final product. Don’t spend $300 on some Etsy custom lightweight gaming mouse when there is already this for so much better.

I was a bit hesitant to purchase this mouse after having iffy quality control on my previous Burst Pro/Burst Core mice that use the same optical main switches that the Kone Pro uses, but these feel nice and do not require a lot of force to actuate. Left and right are close in feel and the shine through of the RGB on Mouse 1 and 2 are an interesting touch. The side buttons are fantastic and easy to press. Optical implementations over the years are usually not the best, but this is one of the better ones I've used. It also helps that they will not develop the dreaded double-clicking issues that have plagued mice over the past few years. The 100% virgin PTFE mouse feet are some of the best out of the box that I have seen, and they come with an extra set just in case you wear them out or have to take the mouse apart for some reason. The weight is perfect and the shape is just right for my 19x10cm hands. Wireless is spot on and I've noticed zero tracking or deviation issues. The bluetooth implementation has less lag than other mice I've used, such as the Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed and Logitech M720. Battery life is decent, not great but not bad. It helps to turn the RGB brightness down. The scroll wheel is accurate and tactile, made of aluminum without being slippery. I've seen some reports of people having issues with the encoder skipping or bouncing but I have yet to encounter this issue with my copy. My only minor quibble with the mouse is the lack of a DPI button. It has a profile selector on the bottom, but not a DPI button. I ended up using Roccat's Swarm software to create multiple profiles with different DPI to sort of bypass the issue. I tend to use 800dpi for gaming and 1000dpi for desktop usage and I like to be able to bounce between the two. If you can find this on sale, I'd highly recommend it along with an extended warranty just in case you encounter any issues with the scroll wheel.

Got this for my husband and at first he hooked it up with the hardware and it was laggy during the game, but he connected it via bluetooth without hardware and it was very fast and smooth. He hasnt had issues ever since. He also likes the additional shortcut keys that he can program certain commands to in his game. I'm so glad it worked out!

This is a good mouse for everyday tasks and FPS gaming. If you have a large hand, then this still works because the thumb groove on the right helps ensure precise aiming when gripping it down during battles. I wish Roccat would make scrolling faster though. At level 10, the Kone Pro Air scrolls slower than what other mice offers, but the aluminum material has a nice feel to it. I'm sure this could be implemented in future updates, so Roccat, if you read this, please consider making level 10 faster. I did gut my mouse and paint the sides and scroll wheel ocean blue. I don't recommend doing this unless you don't care about voiding your warranty though.

Ok so I tried this mouse. It came with a lot of extras, extra feet, awesome light weight cable, and comes with great software. BUT the quality of the mouse was not there. I’ve come from a Logitech 305, and I have a Razer basilisk, a steel series aero, and this mouse was the lightest, but the plastic felt cheap compared to the others and I felt it would get slick with time. I wanted to love it but I couldn’t get used to the feel. Also I wanted to use it with my Mac but guess what I can’t adjust the dpi unless on the firm ware but it’s not available for a Mac. I think if your on a budget then it’s a great option but if you save just a little you can get a much better feeling mouse. If the feel doesn’t bother you it’s a dang good barging but not for everyone.

Hi and thanks for choosing ROCCAT. We are sorry you aren't satisfied with the feel of the Kone Pro Air. We understand that lightweight materials may feel unfamiliar, however, please be advised that the mouse is built to last and quite sturdy. Please also note that the mouse can be configured without software and the DPI can be switched between the values of 400, 800, 1200, 1600 and 3200. While the software is not available for Mac indeed, the driverless setup of the mouse should compensate for this. You can find instructions and guides on our official support website. In addition, if you have any questions or run into problems, please feel free to get in touch using the contact form on our support website as well. TurtleBeach

Pros: - super lightweight - great response - fantastic battery life - 3 ways to connect - glides around with ease - customizable DPI for all 5 profiles. Dial in that sweet spot for multiple uses - Gorgeous RGB with option to turn it off or customize - smaller size than most. Good for small hands - 7 buttons +1 on bottom, all customizable - satisfying click response - plug and play Cons: - Software is not the best, but also similar to all gaming device software - DPI/profile switch on bottom - slightly higher price? I was long overdue for a mouse update and I finally pulled the trigger and went with the Roccat Kone Pro because a friend of mine told me he really likes the one he has and I should give it a shot. And oh boy am I glad I did. I thought I liked a heavy mouse and my old mouse was basically like moving a brick around. But after a short adjustment period, I don’t know why I took so long to go lightweight! The Roccat is so light and smooth moving that I feel like I’m just moving my empty hand around the desk. I look where I want to point and my reticle is instantly there and with a quick click, headshot. Let’s talk about those clicks for a minute too. I don’t know all the technical specs, but I do know this mouse has a very satisfying click feel. It’s right at the perfect sensitivity for my personal liking where I don’t accidentally click, but I’m also not missing clicks nearly as much. It’s also a quieter, less annoying “click” sound. And in a lot of popular gaming, clicks equal shots, and according to Michael Scott, Wayne Gretzky said you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. To a gamer, a mouse click is important, and personally I am very happy with this mouse. That said, remember, most of this comes down to personal preference and you may feel differently, but this is what I noticed in the last few days of testing this mouse. Other pros to touch on, the battery life is fantastic so far. I have been connected via the wireless dongle with RGB lighting on and the battery is still holding strong. Roccat says bluetooth is the most efficient for battery but not so good for gaming response. Bluetooth is still nice to have for everyday use or when battery is a concern though. You can also simply plug in the included (and very well made) USB A to C cable to charge and use the mouse. So even in a full battery loss moment, simply plug in the mouse and you’re back at it. I like the 3 connection options because it makes it really easy to use this mouse with my main gaming PC and my work laptop. Since I’m not gaming on the laptop much, I use the bluetooth connection there and the wireless on my PC. This way I don’t have to move the dongle (or use up a laptop USB) and can go back and forth with the flick of a switch on the mouse. I have only been using this mouse a few days, but so far I have not found anything wrong or annoying to the point that I don’t want to use it anymore. The closest thing to a con I have found is the software is just ok. That is to say, it’s like every other brand's gaming device software. It’s flashy, it’s hard to navigate and it has some bugs. The good news is a) you don’t have to use it to use the mouse, and b) any software can be updated and fixed. One thing to note, you will have to download the software to update the firmware and to customize any settings, but once you have it set, you shouldn’t need to get in there often. Also note when updating the mouse, you will need to use the supplied USB plug to complete the updates, after that, you only need the cord for charging or using it wired. OVERALL Overall I am very happy with this mouse. It is a bit of money but I think you get a decent value and similar gaming mice can go for a lot more and maybe only gain bells and whistles. This mouse keeps it pretty simple, lightweight, and smooth. There’s not 20 buttons and a huge hump. Just clean buttons that click just right, a wheel you want to scroll, and 3 ways to connect makes this mouse a great option for anyone looking for an update and more accuracy in their gaming.

    Great Gaming & Everyday Mouse

The Roccat Kone Pro Air is an outstanding, comfortable, gaming mouse. Not too flashy, fits right in your hand, and light, it has been perfect for everyday work from home use and gaming for after work. Roccat, a German gaming peripheral company acquired by Turtle Beach years ago, has continued to make quality gaming hardware and their specialty is in the details. In the box, Roccat included the mouse, a charging USB C cable, and the wireless receiver. Installing it was a breeze; I connected it to my Windows laptop and it was automatically recognized. Although not needed, to get the most out of the functionality of the Kone Pro Air, it is recommended to install the Roccat Swarm software. I found it on the Roccat site (https://support.roccat.com/s/downloads?language=en_US), installed it, and found many cool features available for the mouse. Being able to function and configure macros for the extra buttons on the mouse, change the RGB lighting, change the DPI, and more was able to be done via the software. Now for the specs. The Kone Pro Air weighs 75g and is extremely light. This is a smidge over the weight of 3 AA batteries, close to being Air! Over on the bottom it has what Roccat describes as heat treated pure PFTE glides. This allows for smooth operation across surfaces like cloth and plastic mousepads as well as glass (the sensor has no issues with glass as well). The Kone’s sensor allows for 19k DPI, plenty fast for shooters like COD’s Warzone. With its weight, its 19k DPI sensor, and glides at the bottom, it feels butter smooth when using it. The Kone Pro Air also has a recharge battery that lasted me a little over a week after 6-8 hour everyday use. At the tip of the mouse clicks, it has a USB C port and I noticed it became fully charged after a little over two hours. While charging, I could still use the mouse and didn’t find it bothersome to use it while charging. Lastly, the Kone has the ability to connect to devices via a wireless USB or via Bluetooth. What I loved most about the Kone Pro Air was how comfortable it was in my hand. Curved to the shape of my hand and very light, it literally glides on my desk. After weeks of testing, hours at a time (using it for work outside of just gaming), I have not gotten tired of using it outside of gaming. The colors on the tips of the left and right button clicks are also a nice touch and does not make the mouse too flashy. On the other hand, what I disliked was that it only has what I call 3 true customizable buttons. While all buttons on the mouse can be customized to certain functions, only 3 were extras and I wish there were a few more. To the left click button, there are two additional side buttons you can customize to have certain functions. Over on the bottom is another additional button for customization. Overall, this is a well-rounded, amazing mouse for everyday use and gaming. Having the ability to use on glass, with nice RGB lighting, and an ergonomic shape, I don’t see why it would be considered just a gaming mouse. I would recommend this mouse for those who are looking for a comfortable mouse that rests in their hand during work that can also be used for gaming after (or during breaks!).

TLDR: Great gaming mouse. If you love super light gaming mice that can connect anyway you want, with great RGB features. You can't go wrong. The Roccat Kone Pro Air is an incredibly lightweight mouse. Feather light. In fact, just tap it with your finger and it effortlessly glides across your mouse pad. So the Kone Pro Air is definitely a gaming mouse. On my Windows 10 gaming PC, the wireless connection was instantaneous and there is no lag. If you want to customize the Kone Pro Air (buttons and RGBs) you need to download the free Roccat Swarm software. Just FYI, first, install there was a firmware update for the mouse which requires using a wired connection, but after that, you're all good. The Swarm software lets you customize EVERYTHING from DPI, acceleration, etc. It also has some smart calibration software that calibrates based on your speed and movement. The Kone Pro Air can store multiple profiles, which you can switch via software or a button underneath the mouse. The latter is something that's not my personal preference, I prefer to switch profiles with an easy to press button but I have friends that prefer it hidden so you don't accidentally switch mid-game play. The RGBs are bright. There's a cool honeycomb effect from the plastic. I tried to capture in the photos. The blur is because taking a photo at night with no flash is hard (blame me!). I went for the police car look, but it's RGB so you can go crazy with any color you like. Yes, you can adjust the brightness and you can disable RGB if you want lights off. Gameplay with the Kone Pro Air is a lot of fun. Again, the lightweight and glide are phenomenal and really stand out. I played a bit of Doom on Ultra settings and cannot fault the Kone Pro Air. Appreciating the mechanical buttons and high DPI rate. Should add, there's something that feels good about the scroll wheel - it's hard to describe other than it's a pleasure to use. The Kone Pro Air is a rechargeable mouse, so no searching for AAA batteries. It charges over USB C (thanks Roccat!) which makes plugging it in to charge a breeze. The charging cable is high quality braided cable and, in my tests, I was able to use the mouse while charging without the wireless connection at all. Which is impressive.

I am quite surprised at the performance of this mouse even when connected via bluetooth. I am a dedicated laptop gamer.. I know I know, it isn't the same as desktop gaming. Anyway.. I choose to play on laptops because I prefer the portability of a laptop for everything from photo editing, to gaming. This mouse is perfect for laptop users, and just as good for a desktop. I say it is perfect for a laptop user is because it is very lightweight, yet sturdy. I don't worry about it when I throw it in my backpack along with my laptop. It does include a 2.4ghz dongle but I hate carrying dongles with me everywhere, so I prefer the bluetooth connection. In my testing, this mouse performed just as good as a wired mouse. I did not notice any latency or delay while gaming. You can download a companion software from Roccat on a windows PC or Laptop, but it is not required. The mouse feels good enough for me with the default setting when connected. The "skate pads" under the mouse make for a very smooth mouse. I played Fortnite, and Apex with no issue with this mouse on my PC, and I also played Resident Evil Village and The Division 2 on Google Stadia with my MacBook Pro. It performed flawlessly with both systems. The left and right clickers feel great and have a nice soft travel. The scroll wheel feels very smooth and tactile. The two side buttons can be customized as the RGB lights. I just keep it on the "breathing' setting that changes colors. Looks great beside my MacBook Pro to be honest :D I love it! Battery life is excellent and charges via USB C. Roccat provides a usb c cable that you can also use to connect it to your computer or laptop. The cable does not tangle and is nice and soft. It doesn't get in the way or feel like its tugging against your mouse. If you stumble across this mouse online or at the store, I can whole heartedly recommend it. It is very comfortable, smooth and precise for all video game genres.

Love this mouse, it is very easy to set up and performs like a champ. Once paired with your PC it will be automatically recognized and it will require a firmware update. This mouse is very comfortable, super light and with a nice grip. I love all the customization you can do with the bottoms and lights. You can either do Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless which is recommended for gaming or even wired with the included charging cable. I tried all of them and I felt no difference. This mouse is very responsive. The wheel is very cool and super responsive too, using it for switching weapons in shooter games was fantastic. I honestly didn't notice any lag during my game play again. I was getting instant responses, it was awesome. One thing it would have been nice was for the cable to be USB-C on both ends, the reason is if you have new computers that only have type C you will need an adapter to use the charging cable. Also another thing worth mentioning is that people with big hands may find this mouse a little small. Overall this is a great Gaming mouse very responsive, super light and customizable. In the box you get the mouse, charging cable, Bluetooth adapter which I didn't use because my PC has it built in, and it also comes with a manual.

This is a hate or love kind of mouse. If you like ergo, right handed mice, and if you have medium to larger sized hands, the Kone Pro Air's thumb groove can be a blessing for your aim. Everything on it is excellent, except the clicks do feel sort of hollow compared to everything else like Omrons or Kailh switches. It's still good, but you just have to get used to their new switches. My little brother loves this mouse so much, I had to sell him my black one. I got the white version as mine instead. I painted mine blue to match my keyboard. Don't do this unless you don't care about warranty.
