Solid Headset, But Be Warned of Cheap Material

So I bought these around December of 22, where I did a full revamp of my PC peripherals with ROCCAT PC accessories. And for the most part, I've enjoyed the swap out. ROCCAT has made some top of the line PC gaming peripherals.
Except for this headset.
Now, let's talk about the positive's of this headset:
- When it's functioning correctly, this is a solid PC gaming headset.
- Audio quality is good, I'm able to hear omnidirectional sounds in a fairly crisp manner, and the audio comes out clean.
- Headset is pretty comfortable. Cushions and shape well to being worn for hours at a time without feeling heavy or uncomfortable.
However, I have 3 glaring issues with this, that have made me decide that I will look for a different headset.
Issue #1: The Charge Base
ROCCAT has this feature where you can place the headset on the base for it to charge wirelessly instead of using a cable. That's handy...if you can get it to work without wanting to throw your headset at the wall in frustration.
The pins on the charge base are near impossible to line up onto the headset correctly. Majority of the times, you'll find yourself thinking you have it lined up, only for the headset to turn itself on due to be pushed down onto the button, or slide slightly out of alignment that it will not charge. And with no light/feature to indicate it's charging, it's extremely difficult and frustrating to charge this wirelessly.
Most of you will end up charging it via the USB-A to USB-C cable.
Issue #2: Frequent Disconnects.
So, for some reason, this headset is not very friendly about staying connected. Anytime I boot up my PC, or anytime my computer idles and comes back, I have to unplug and replug the charge base in order to hear any sound. Now, this is mildly annoying at best, but the biggest issue I have, is that my sound/headset will randomly disconnect frequently while I'm in the middle of working/gaming. Again, can be solved by unplugging/replugging the headset in. However, in the middle of a gaming session, this is extremely annoying.
Issue #3: Cheap Build Materials
I have owned many different brands of gaming headsets over the years (Astro, Turtle Beach, Arctis, Razer) and this is the only set where it has gotten damaged in less than a year from normal wear/tear and is now unusable.
So, the big issue for me, is that the material around the drivers and holding the band in place, is made of VERY CHEAP plastic. About a month ago, I noticed a hairline crack going through the entire driver side where the microphone boom is, and going through the joint where the driver cup and headband are connected.
Now, I've taken very good care of my headsets, and have had some last me 5+ years. Worst I've done for this headset, is set it down on my desk gently, as I've done with all my headsets. Unfortunately, when I went to put it on today, the plastic finally began to crumble away and expose enough of the joint that was only held by this cheap plastic, that now my left cup is dangling freely.
Definitely a poor build with cheap materials.
Overall, this headset is NOT worth the $250. To be fair, I bought this when it was on sale for $200 and it's still not worth that. This, for the build and average sound quality, would be $100 at best.
Avoid this headset if you can. The lighting compliments my setup, but that doesn't make this headset worth it. A shame, unfortunately.

GREAT quality with both the sound and hardware. I will be returning these though, as they were bought as a gift and the receiver was not completely satisfied with the specs. He was going to use them for PS5, but the bluetooth connectivity was not as smooth as expected, and you are not able to adjust the volume directly from the headset. I am giving 4 stars because I do believe this headset would be very nice for PC gaming. Sad to see they did not live up to full expectation with PS5 connectivity.

In the world of gaming there are fundamental things that make the experience more immersive, there are currently many games in which the sound plays an important role and have a good headset that allow you to hear everything that happens, every step of the enemy or every sound that allows you to reach victory, is something that most gamers are looking for. Whether you play on PC, PS5 or Xbox the audio section is something that requires a little more attention and if you play competitively much more.
In the box comes the headphones, along with the charging base, a pair of usb cables to connect the base to the pc and to connect the base to the power supply plus the quick start guide. The headphones come already synchronized with the base so it is only required to be connected via usb to the PC or console. The headphones can be connected via USB and can also be connected via Bluetooth to mobile devices.
The design of the headset is very similar to the Roccat Syn pro air however the quality of the material of the earpads is different as well as the fabric of the headband, it actually feels very comfortable, I have used the headset in gaming sessions of more than 4 hours and I have not felt discomfort. The headphones are relatively light but being wireless, you feel the difference to a wired, despite this, in use is not perceived, I think they weigh just enough.
Regarding the microphone, it can be easily removed from the headphones and when it is in place it holds very well. The sound quality is great, zero problems and one thing I like is that you can monitor the volume of the microphone, this can be adjusted from the wheel that is on the right earphone, something fair to mention is that this small wheel can be configured to serve in another function that we consider important to us.
The headphones deliver an impressive sound quality, the volume that reaches is very high, personally I haven't had the need to raise the volume to 100 in 70 or 75 is more than enough, whether I use the headphones for gaming or listening to music, the quality is just as good. The bass, mids and highs are very well balanced, however with the Roccat Swarm app you can use the equalizer to configure according to your needs and taste. The same app allows you to configure the volume of the microphone, you can activate the Super Human hearing function, as well as check the battery level and also configure the RGB lighting that by the way looks great, both in the charging base and in the headphones.
What was a bit tricky at first was installing the drivers for the headphones. You need to download and update first the app and then the module of the headphones, for a while I did not show the update and could not use the app to customize the headphones, later restarting the app I could download the utlima update and I could finally access the tab of the module of the Syn MAx Air.
In conclusion I can say that these headphones are of a perceptible quality and designed to create an immersive environment with an extraordinary audio quality, have an autonomy of up to 16 hours (of course it will depend on the use and the chosen configuration) and a design that allows use for long periods without discomfort. It seems to me that the price is justified in each of the aspects that make up these headphones, it's a very well made product that fulfills its purpose satisfactorily, I can certainly recommend them.

The Turtle Beach Roccat Syn Max Air, a wireless gaming headset with a charging dock. In terms of build quality, this headset is very sleek and extremely well made. The ear pads are mostly faux leather with a soft fabric where it rests on your head. The material choice makes for a comfortable headset to use for long periods of time. I found myself playing games & listening to music for 5+ hour sessions without having any sweat form on or around where the headphones sit. The ear pad’s thickness is also around 1” making this a true around ear headset and affords enough room for your ears to be enveloped without touching OR brushing up against the drivers; this is important because ear fatigue/discomfort can be caused due to contact with the drivers/driver shielding. In terms of quality of listening from a comfort standpoint, the Max Air headset gets a 9/10 from me as it is very comfy. The only con preventing me from giving it a 10/10 for comfort is that the tension of the headset seems quite tight at first, and so i had to place it on a yoga block to loosen up the tension a bit before it felt truly comfortable. Lastly, the headband has a faux leather wrapped cushion that aids in creating a more comfortable listening experience.
Aside from the build quality of the ear pads, the headset’s drivers are built around partially smoky transparent plastic. This material screams fingerprint magnet. I myself don’t mind it too much, but it is worth noting for others that are more self-conscious about keeping their headsets clean! There is RGB that emanates from the drivers (which is why the casing is partially transparent) and makes for great eye candy (especially young gamers). The base docking station also has an RGB ring at the bottom which illuminates when the headset is on. If you are looking for eye candy galore, this headset is it :P
In terms of sound quality, this headset is pretty accurate. I noticed that the highs and mids are a tad bright and distinguishing directional audio very easy. I mainly play FPS games with my Astro A40s but now i can play with the Syn Max Air without losing any of that great audio quality or the hassle of dealing with cables! The mic is also quite decent and my friends could hear me pretty clearly. The muting function is more convenient compared to my A40s, as i only have to flip up the mic to mute as opposed to pressing a toggle button and then checking the MixAmp to visually verify it's muted as intended.
The only real big gripe i have against this headset is that the volume wheel is very loose and makes for a very sensitive wheel. There isn’t much tactile feedback to indicate when you’ve gone up/down a level in volume. Some users may like this, but i personally don’t as sometimes when i’m just sitting in my chair and my headset brushes against it, the volume may change due to the looseness in the wheel.
Overall, i would highly recommend this headset for anyone that is in need of a great looking, comfortable gaming headset.

Solid Wireless gaming headset with charger

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Roccat Syn Air Max is an interesting combination of a wireless gaming headset with a charging base. The charging base makes this headset rather unique as there just aren’t that many options that use contact charging base units. The headset also has some tricks and surprises I’ll cover as well.
As mentioned the biggest feature for this headset is the contact charging base on top of the wireless functionality. The headset comes with a usb-a to c braided cable as well as a usb-c to usb-c cable. There’s one input on the base for power and one to connect to the PC. For PC functionality you can just connect the PC output to your PC’s USB-A or USB-C port using the correct supplied braided cable.
The interesting part of this headset is that it also has Bluetooth functionality and the base unit is the receiver for both BT and wireless from your PC. If you’re only using BT, you can connect the power input on the base to any USB charger (not included). I did not test to see if charging is faster with an AC adapter than with the PC connection, but that is most likely the case.
So back to BT functionality, you can use this to connect to BT devices like your phone or a Nintendo Switch. You just hold the BT button to put it into pairing mode and add it on your device. The REALLY interesting part of BT is that the audio and mic input get muxed in with the PC input, meaning you can listen to games or music from your PC while taking a call from your phone or vice versa. The downside of this is I didn’t see any way to independently choose or switch between sources.
There is no receiver dongle for the headset to the PC, it’s integrated into the base unit.
I took a star off because the charging mechanism on the dock isn’t quite as solid or reassuring as it could be. You just kind of angle the headset towards you and put the left ear piece on, then the right and that should engage the 3 little spring spikes for charging. I say should because there’s no actual feedback telling you it’s charging. No charging light on the base or headset or anything. You can also charge the headset by plugging in usb-c to the headset.
Another reason I took a star off is that you still have to hold the power button to wake up the headphones after pulling them off the charger. While most wireless headsets are like this, it would’ve been nice If they were in a low power state while on the charger and just woke up when you took them off.
The ear pads are nice and comfortable and breathe well, they don’t use faux leather on the part that touches your head and ears which helps things breathe, it’s more of an athletic cloth covering a comfy memory foam. The headset is made from premium materials like aluminum but the base unit is mostly hollow plastic. The actual stitching on the cloth ear pads looked a little haphazard for a premium headset so hopefully this is just early production issues.
There’s no additional software that I could find for 3D spatial sound, it looks like that technology is baked into the TB headset speakers themselves. Also the microphone is keyed just 1 way with a short and long peg which need to be correctly oriented or the mic won’t install correctly.
Overall sound quality is excellent and range is good too for wireless. It’s a very attractive looking headset with RGB but it’s not quite perfect for what I would want in a wireless charging headset with base unit.

Great Headset for PC

THE BREAKDOWN:
The Roccat Syn Max Air is a great PC gaming headset. It is comfortable and easy to use and understand. When using the software, you can really fine tune the audio to be amazing.
In the box you get the headset, the mic, the base, two USB-A to USB-C cables, an USB-A to USB-C adapter, and a quick start guide.
With this headset you get a 16-hour battery life. To charge it you drop them on the magnetized base and let them charge. To charge/ power the base station you will need to use one of the USB cables and plug it in to the computer or you can use one and plug it into the wall. I never found to have an issue with battery life! On the base station there is a cut-out place that your cables come out the back and the base station lights up. When you first power on the headset you get a “Headset on” and battery indicator then some beeps, you also get this when you flip the mic down and up to let you know. Very cool feature. Not only does it make a beeping tone when you flip the mic it also lights up the base station to blue when active and red when inactive.
The headset to me is in the medium weight category, not too heavy and not super light. The earcups fold in so you can lay it flat, and the only adjustment is in the length up and down of the earcups. Now I only got about half of an inch but never found this to be an issue. The ear cups themselves on the outside is like a pleather but the piece that sits on your head is like a moisture wicking athletic material that feels amazing. The inside of the cups is like a mesh fabric that lets them breath. I can say that they felt great on my head with no sweating issues. The earcups themselves are very easy to remove and put back on. The headband was just okay for me, it was a soft, thin kind of foam with pleather covering. I did not find it painful or in any way hurting my head. I think a good idea would be for the earcup athletic material to be up there would be best! The headset is very flexible and adjustable with no issues of it breaking. There is metal on this build where you mostly see metal to plastic not metal to metal. This makes it feel very solid and expensive.
You have a detachable microphone, which you have to remove the plastic piece on the earcup (which I will probably lose) and click in the microphone. The microphone itself moves down to activate and up to deactivate. There is a volume button the microphone side of the earcup that works great. Also, on that same side you have an USB-C charging port then the contacts for the base charging station and then the power button. On the opposite earcup you have the Bluetooth pairing button and multi-function wheel. One thing to note that in the Swarm software you can adjust your mic settings there and they also adjust in the windows setting.
In the software you can adjust the game audio settings, battery status features, spatial audio settings, superhuman hearing settings, mic settings, Windows settings, and input settings. On the input setting you can assign what the other wheel controls on your headset, a really cool feature. You can adjust the EQ settings in the audio menu and save them. You can also adjust your illumination for the base station and the headset then save them. The normal sound in these headphones is just normal and average. Once you get into the software and adjust the settings to your pleasure it really pulls out all the sounds that really works great.
PRO’s:
- Immersive 3D audio
- 24 Hour battery life
- 2 Year warranty
CON’s:
- none

Best Roccat Headset Yet

Right out of the box I could tell that the Roccat Syn Max Air was a quality product compared to previous Roccat products. This one was packaged so nicely that I could tell they cared about this product and its presentation and packaging. The headset was cushioned very nicely in foam rather than shrunk plastic.
Taking it out of the box, it looks very neat. It presents itself a lot like the Roccat Syn Pro Air with some small differences. Namely, the ear cups are leather-based, and they feel much better than the athletic material from the previous headset—very comfortable and cushiony. My ears tend to get hot, but the layer of cooling gel in the ear cups helps prevent this, and I've noticed this. The cups do slowly droop from gravity if for some reason you don't always put the headset back on the dock, but it isn't as bad as the previous iteration.
One of my favorite features is the dock. Not only does it have RGB and holds the headset well, but it's a rapid charger. It also acts as a transmitter. It's doing all this at the same time, requiring only one USB port. In my experience, USB ports are not to be taken for granted, so making good use of a single USB port is fantastic.
The sound quality is about what you'd expect from a Roccat headset. The Swarm software allows you to make some adjustments, but I haven't really noticed any difference in changing these settings. Maybe it's just me. The battery can last up to 16 hours, but realistically this may be closer to 8-10 hours. This is still pretty good.
I'm super pleased with the Syn Max Air, and it's a testament to Roccat's mission to provide state-of-the-art quality products. If you enjoy Roccat products or are looking for a sleek-looking headset, do not pass up the Syn Max Air.

Excellent Choice For The Serious Gamer

Excellent choice for the serious gamer! For the record, I am not going to address any particular "tech specs" since that information can be found on the Best Buy site as well as the Roccat Syn Max Air website and tech specs are not subjective, they are what they are. Instead, I'm going to focus on the "comfort" and "usability" aspects.
I got these for my wife to use. My son is in US Navy Nuclear Propulsion School in South Carolina. We are here in Colorado, so the two of them play games on the weekends while the kid has his limited free time. These offer a great environment to play for us. They are lightweight, comfortable and well, they just look cool!
As for the comfort features, my wife wears glasses and these are designed with what Roccat calls "Prospecs" that offers a design to relieve some of the pressures that glasses offer with most over the air headsets. She said she could definitely tell a difference and that after multiple hours, she could really appreciate that.
Another nice feature is that the padding has a layer of cooling gel. As most anyone who has experienced hours of intense gaming, this is a very nice feature.
Another area where these excel is in the weight department. They are lightweight yet they still have a quality feel. The headband is comfortable and almost disappears.
One area for improvement would be if the base had a slot to hold the USB-A to USB-C adapter and another slot to hold the rubber microphone cover. Perhaps a minor nitpick, but certainly a valid one.
In all, great product if you have the need and the budget.

Bought this apprehensively after reading reviews about the charging base. But all and all, I really like the headphones. I use them primarily for PC gaming.
Pros:
Lightweight. My regular headphones are the Apple Airpods Max so these are much lighter,
Connects well using the base and with bluetooth, but the connectivity is a pro after going through the con of learning how to optimize the headset.
Simple. Two dials to control volume and set the other dial for other gaming needs. The flip mic to mute is good. Though the mic flip feels a little delicate.
Battery life: I don't game for more than 2-3 hours normally, but one time I played for 5 hours and they were still charged.
Cons:
If you want a plug and go headset, this might not be for you. The app has a ton of settings depending on your computer. Everything from enhanced footsteps when gaming to background noise adjustments. I even adjusted the RGB light patterns. Fun, but something I normally wouldn't care about lol
Charging base is finicky. I press down my headphones from the top to charge them on the base. The base has a particular light pattern when the headphones connect to the base for charging. But all that can be avoided by just plugging the usb-c charger directly to the headphones.
Overall:
After the learning curve of settings and connecting the headphones, I come to enjoy them. I have listened to music and they sound like they still need to be broken in, but sounds are good.
I do enjoy the connection to the base and have used them to edit videos and the millisecond delays I'd get with bluetooth are avoided. The mic also is pretty decent. I like how the sensitivity and background noise can be controlled with the app.
I read some reviews about wishing they had active noise cancellation, I haven't found that to be an issue. The noise dampening on the headset is quite good. I use them in my small office and I have two toddlers making noise. While I can hear them, its not distracting as it can be with the xbox headphones I have.
Overall, I bought these on clearance for more than half off. I would pay that again. Now whether they are worth $250, I don't know. Only because at that price, I would want something that I would use for music and be able to pair with my phone. Currently, I can't connect these to my Fold 4.
Regardless, seeing what wireless gaming headphones cost, I don't feel like I'd gain advantages I care about for the same money. I'm happy with these and will continue to use them.

Amazing audio and build quality!

The Rocca Syn Max Air the latest premium gaming headsets out there. Now why do I say premium? First, the over all build quality of the Syn Max Air reminds me of the build quality of the Sony XM series or the Bose Quiet series which are premium headsets but only for audio. This headset is primarily designed for gamers in mind. And seldom do you see headsets with this build quality. (Yes some headsets out there are good but really this reminds me of Sony and Bose.)
That said, the build quality is generally plastic but has a firm grip over my head. The ear muffs are adjustable (as expected) but the design of the extending tubes remind me of the Bose 700 and the arm support of the headset reminds me of my Bowers and Wilkins headset (though they are not carbon fiber like the Bowers & Wilkins). And overall, the feel is like Sony headsets but with a bit more heft. But being gaming headset, this of course has lighting embedded in the headset.
Customization of the Syn Air Max is controlled by the Roccast Swarm app downloadable from their website. On top of that, there is also a mobile version of their app both In iOS and Android. This is very handy and also you can use this for mobile gaming.
One feature that is not common in gaming headsets is the inclusion of a charging dock. While it is not a necessity for me, I would still say that this is a nice addition to this headset. Do note that, once you try to setup the headset with the app, an firmware update for both the headset and dock is available (at least I was prompted to include the dock too prior to updating.) But at the end of the day, the dock is not really necessary for me.
Now as for the audio quality, the sound of this headset is simply amazing. Though it does not really boast of high quality and proprietary audio features save for the spatial sound, I would say that the Syn Max Air has a superb spatial sound which I don’t find in most gaming headsets. Also, the clarity of the headset is simply great reminding me again of the Sony and Bose that I actually use this headset for audio only using my computer. And lastly before I forget to mention, this headset is also wireless. Need I say more.
I really like this Roccat headset as it is premium in both quality and audio features. I would really recommend this headset!

I like this product, it has a decent microphone with good feedback, both blue tooth, usb dongle, and optional wired connection. The docking station is nice, but slightly touchie and has to be in the right spot to charge properly. If you dont like this feature you can always charge it the traditional way with the cable though. I like the program that goes with this headset, it has the ability to increase the noise of things like footsteps which is great in games like Valorant. Overall, it fits nicely on the head and doesnt get too hot or uncomfortable after all day use. It feels durable and the RGB on the headset is a nice touch. My boyfriend and I went through so many headsets until we finally found this one.

Pros:
-Headset is loud (personal preference)
-dock charges quick. (15 minutes got me a few hours worth)
-the headset can be connected to the computer and another device via bluetooth at the same time. (found this very cool.)
-it has two scroll wheels on the headset. One for the main volume and the other can actually be set to many other things. You will need the software for it.
-headset colors can be changed via software
-software can silence audio from chats when you are gaming
-software has a lot of adio tweaks and equalizer specific to tasks as in gaming, music, or mic.
-ear cushions are actually really nice
Cons
-The mic is as bad as you can expect turtle beach headphones to be. Crunchy and sharp sounding. Never heard a good sounding turtle beach headset.
-the charging dock is a bit of a pain to use.
-firmware update on the headset and dock was a pain to install due to constant disconnect issues somehow
-plastic shell loves grease. Dont eating anything with grease/oil

The Roccat Syn Air Max Headphones are actually quite an amazing product. With a sale on it from $250 down to $99 its MORE than worth it. Sound from these headphones are really quite amazing and paired with the Swarm software easy to operate and the headset itself comes with really nice and unseen options such as Superhuman hearing and Wave3D options are fantastic for gaming. Initial setup and use were an easy enough experience.. but be warned the charging dock can be quite troublesome to get going. Make sure to pay DETAILED attention to the setup and install of the docking station and CHARGING with cables being used exactly as directed. The USB C to C cable needs to be plugged into the right ends or will not charge properly or at all (never seen that with any other C-C cable ever). With all that being said the products the offer in the high end field of keyboards and mice are really, and i mean REALLY impressive. Amazing look, feel, software options (Swarm) and mainly performance. This company isn't as well known as Logitech, Corsair and so on, but i hope they keep at it and continue to improve and improvise. My next ecosystem will be Roccat, i think its worth it for people to try.

I'm sure with all the customization options in the software you could get these to sound really good. But for the non-audiophiles, these are pretty average and that's just because they dropped the price.
The charging stand is really finicky. It would never connect the first time.
The headphones are super bulky and didn't have enough clamping force so they would move around on my head.
Very limited adjustability.
RGB settings would not be saved after turning the headphones off. So if you wanted to turn off RGB, every time you took them off the stand you would have to go into the software to change it. And while on the stand, the RGB would be on no matter what as long as your PC was on.
Sound was decent, but as a non audiophile, I couldn't tell the difference between these and a better fitting cheap Logitech headset.
It feels like these should start at $100 instead of $250.
